SEMI FINALS

Match 1
Kurt Angle (2000)
Steve Austin (1996)

This one was always gonna be a shoo-in for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin but Kurt put a fight up taking 5 votes, but losing conclusively to Austin's 12.

Match 2: Triple Threat
Bret Hart (1991 & 1993)
Ted DiBiase (1988)
Ken Shamrock (1999)

In what might have been seen as a cakewalk for Bret, his opponents did but up a decent fight with the Million Dollar Man totalling 2 votes and Shamrock taking 4. However, 11 votes puts "The Hitman" through to the Final.

BS, Shamrock is clearly the greatest.

but "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (1996)

Anybody Thrilla 11-30-2010 04:36 PM

Bret Hart

Yeah, Austin coined Austin 3:16 when he won, but his road to the crown was pretty bland in comparison to Bret's. Bret just SCHOOLED that tournament and showed that night why he really is the best there is, was, and ever will be. Long live King Hitman.

My vote should count extra since I bothered to explain it.

Savio 11-30-2010 07:47 PM

no if anything it should count less

Anybody Thrilla 11-30-2010 07:51 PM

I don't think that's fair.

Stone Cold because he chose not to wear the stupid hat

itsmeJD 11-30-2010 08:35 PM

Totally off subject, but could that crown they gave Sheamus been any cheaper? WWE looks to be cutting the budget in the props department. Looks like they got that shit from an elementary school play.

Bret.

Because I actually like him.

Jeritron 12-01-2010 02:19 AM

Stone Cold, because although KOTR is usually billed as something that catapaults careers, what Stone Cold did at that PPV actually did it.

The crown looked fantastic when compared to the sceptor.

They could have at least gotten plastic gems - what they had looked like Hershey's Kisses wrappers.

Who else expected HHH to attack Sheamus from behind while he was sitting on the throne?

The Gold Standard 12-01-2010 03:38 PM

The result of Austin's win is bigger than anyone else's King of the Ring win.

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2010 04:06 PM

Not really, though. All he really did in that tournament was defeat an over the hill Jake Roberts. Austin would have been a star with or without that tournament.

Jeritron 12-01-2010 04:21 PM

Yes he would have, but it's hard to know how important that promo was. It's certainly legendary, and WWE tries to tell us it catapaulted him.
Perhaps it's what made them take real notice. Or perhaps the fan response to the catchphrase played a huge part.

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2010 05:07 PM

A lot of that response probably had to do with the fact that he said "ass", which was pretty rare at that point in time. I remember that's why I started thinking Austin was cool. That and his theme music.

Anybody Thrilla 12-01-2010 05:08 PM

Just the way Doc Hendrix pulled the mic away when he said 'ass' gave him instant credibility.

I am not 100% sure about that. If he didn't win, you don't know if he would have ever made that promo. I think it had more significance because it was at the KOTR PPV. If it were on Raw, it might get lost in the shuffle.

XL 12-02-2010 07:01 PM

The speech was a result of facing and defeating Jake Roberts who was working a "Bible Bashing" gimmick I believe. So, without the victory over Jake and the platform to cut the promo it may well have never happened.

Anybody Thrilla 12-02-2010 07:04 PM

I said he would have become a star without the tournament. I didn't say he would have cut the exact same promo, you dickheads.

If you can show me proof that "Austin 3:16" was the ONLY reason that he was insanely over, then we can revisit this.
