This thread needs to pace itself. We're only 2 games in and Gertner has already blown two bat boys.

Lol are the Cubs eliminated from playoff contention yet?

Gertner 04-03-2011 01:12 PM

Wow, no Joe Mauer today for the Twins. I realize Cecil is a lefty, but Cecil blew in spring training and had nothing on his fastball.

Surprised to see Rivera hitting 2nd.

Y. Escobar ss
J. Rivera dh
J. Bautista rf
A. Lind 1b
A. Hill 2b
E. Encarnacion 3b
T. Snider lf
J.P. Arencibia c
M. McCoy cf

Brett Cecil pitching. Cecil just struck out the side in the first.

Dude I miss RFK. Yeah it was kinda shitty. Actually a terrible stadium for baseball. But you could just walk in and sit anywhere pretty much. Now at Nationals Park they have fucking guards at every section except the upper deck. I need to go back to RFK to see a DC United game

Gertner 04-03-2011 01:19 PM

I've been to the Jays old Exibition Stadium, Skydone/Rogers Centre, Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park.

That's kind of weird, how's attendance at nationals park?

OssMan 04-03-2011 01:42 PM

Bunch of shit heads who show up in the 3rd inning and leave in the 7th and are only there to stand around in the bar and drink $10 beers. You won't see more than 20,000 unless the Phillies, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, etc are in town. It is so pathetic. Going to a Nationals game is honestly one of the worst experiences in sports. Whenever I go to another stadium it's like a breath of fresh air or something. Even Orioles games are way more enjoyable even though they always suck.

mhirn3 04-03-2011 01:45 PM

Wow that sucks to hear. Thought about catching a game if I ever make it to DC again....at least I know there will be good seats available if I do lol

OssMan 04-03-2011 02:05 PM

I dunno it's just annoying. More people get pumped up for the Geico President's Race or whatever company's T-Shirt Toss than they do for the actual game.

mhirn3 04-03-2011 02:11 PM

I have never left a game early like that, it just makes no sense to me because of the prices you pay to attend a game nowadays(food/parking/tickets/whatever else).....I don't get why people do it....or show up drastically late if you aren't there to WATCH THE GAME

OssMan 04-03-2011 02:11 PM

I hate this motherfucker "Clint" who goes around the ballpark and acts like a tool in front of all these fans

Oh wow that guy is a fuck. I know every team has one of these assholes, the lady who used to do it in Cleveland had THE most annoying voice ever...but nice tits so it was a tossup on whether to kill her or not. LOL at 145 where he used a clip of a guy walking into his shot, wtf why would u put that on your demo reel?

Gertner 04-03-2011 03:14 PM

Cecil's afternoon went downhill after the first. His command was off. Bautista hit a blast to left field for his 2nd. 3-2 Twins in the bottom of the 7th, 1 out men on 2nd and 3rd.

Gertner 04-03-2011 04:05 PM

wow, bases loaded jays down by 1, bottom of the 9th, with Lind at bat.

Gertner 04-03-2011 04:06 PM

Shit, Lind grounds out to first.

SaskatchewanChamp 04-03-2011 04:09 PM

Good opening set for the Jays.

I feel an awesome year coming, and it's very exciting.

Triple Naitch 04-03-2011 04:48 PM

I know it's only three games, but the Red Sox do not look good. Maybe it's just that the Rangers are that good, but their pitching has some serious holes in it.

ClockShot 04-03-2011 05:26 PM

Well the Yankees take 2 out of 3. What the fuck the did Teixeira do to come out of hibernation early this year?

One Eight Sven 04-03-2011 06:42 PM

Tigers are stressing me out already. Hard to get a gauge of where they'll be after just 3 tough road games, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Droford 04-04-2011 12:12 AM

Since Buck Showalter took over the Os the Orioles have the 2nd best record in baseball behind the Phillies.

Their pitching has been horribly over-rated before the season started. Verlander is the only pitcher on the staff that has put together a full season. Not including Penny, because Penny blows at this point.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-04-2011 11:19 AM

Hot start for the Reds. Also the catching platoon of Ramon Hernandez and Ryan Hanigan put up a combined stat line of 9 H, .750 AVG, 5 R, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 2.333 OPS in the series. That'll work.

Yay Reds

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-04-2011 02:02 PM

The Red Sox starting catcher was once demoted because he couldn't throw the ball to the Pitcher! He ALMOST missed through the ball to Wakefield on Saturday. This will be quite a season behind the plate for the Red Sox Sox.

Boomer 04-04-2011 02:46 PM

What's the deal with all the fucking day games for the Braves? Tired of having to sneak a peek at work already.

Droford 04-04-2011 06:46 PM

Os beat the tigers 5-1 to move to 4-0. Havent trailed in a game yet and haven't allowed but 1 run each game. They get Verlander on Wednesday and Guthrie has pneumonia so who knows whos gonna pitch for the Os...

Hope not. Although a lot of people will be clamoring for it when Cordero inevitably struggles. Still hoping Chapman's not a lifetime reliever.

The Rangers are going to steamroll all over the AL West this year.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-05-2011 09:51 AM

Pirates off to a 3-1 start. Alright Buccos.

If Pedro Alvarez gets his shit together, the top 4 of Pittsburgh's lineup will be nasty with everyone 25 or younger.

It is still way to early to determine whether they will or won't . But, I say there is a good chance that, that could happen.

Me too! Nova did pretty well actually. He went 6 innings with only 3 runs given up. After the horrible start by Hughes the day before that's actually real good. Nova wasn't amazing but he got the job done.

4 games in and Nelson Cruz is still on pace for 162 HRs

Vox Populi 04-05-2011 12:23 PM

They announced on Quick Pitch last night that A-Rod had tied Rafael Soriano for 14th place on the all time RBI list.

Look, I know that certain members of the media are trying very hard to erase a very productive yet roid-reeking career from the history books, but turning him into a mostly American League relief pitcher with all of 4 career at bats under his belt is no way to go about that.

Pretty funny slip-up, I thought.

Barry Bonds is 3rd all time, so when AROD eventually passes him (which he will), are they going to announce that AROD passed Barry "Larkin"?

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I LIKE the Orioles...

...they may not win the Division or the Wild Card, but they may definitely play a big role in determining who gets into the Playoffs and who doesn't.

They could still take the Wild Card even if they did.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-06-2011 07:20 AM

Reds are 4-0. They've started a season 4-0 eight times in their history, and in four of those seasons they went to the World Series.

RP 04-06-2011 09:01 AM

Starlin Castro off to a great start

ClockShot 04-06-2011 12:37 PM

One Eight Sven 04-06-2011 12:55 PM

Damian Rey 04-06-2011 10:35 PM

I don't think the Rangers will "steamroll" their division, because, frankly, I don't believe in their starting rotation. I do think they can win the division, but they're not going to coast on in if they don't get another ace arm like they did with Lee last year. I think their main competition will be the A's, who have an stacked rotation which, if their offense scored just enough, could carry them.

Nice to see the O's getting to a great start. I don't think it's going to last, honestly. I do like the potential of their rotation, though.

Padres got hammered by the Giants today. They were down 8 to 1 and scapped to lose 8 to 4.

Emperor Smeat 04-06-2011 10:40 PM

:nono: Red Sox

Everything that was fixed or improved has been horrible.

Bullpen gets fixed but they still suck as bad as last year.
Offense improves and yet they can't score when its needed.
Starting Pitching was expected to improve and its worse than last year so far.

Weirdly, Ortiz struggled early last year but so far he's been good stats-wise.

Worst part is this was actually predicted to happen by an analyst on NESN or somewhere else who noticed the Red Sox half-assed their Spring Training preparations.

Gertner 04-06-2011 11:03 PM

Jays beat the A's again 5-3. Jesse Litsch looked good and Travis Snider hit a three run bomb. Nice 4 and 1 start for my Jays.

A-Rod is an awesome player, but he has pulled some antics some people don't like: slapping the ball off Bronson Arroyo's glove during the 2004 ALCS...yelling "I GOT IT!" as he was heading towards third base when a teammate hit a flyball during a game in Toronto against the Jays in 2007...and running across the mound during a game against the A's, angering pitcher Dallas Braden...

...so little things like that make people dislike him.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-07-2011 12:31 PM

Plus cheating on his wife with Madonna? Why does Tiger Woods get shit for this and Arod gets a free pass?

Jays up 1-0 in the top of the 7th. Ricky Romero and Travis Cahill have been outstanding.

A-Rod "kinda" is getting a pass on his admitted use of Steroids, too...not that I believe he should get blackballed from the game like Barry Bonds was, but with as much focus the media puts on it, you'd think they would've been much harder on him.

Gertner 04-07-2011 03:53 PM

That's not even remotely true, and we despise the "pink hats" as much as anyone else does.

Gertner 04-07-2011 04:57 PM

Ugh, Jays activate Octavio Dotel and demote Casey Janssen. Fuck sakes. Just release Frasor.

Damian Rey 04-07-2011 06:03 PM

I used to be big on ARod, even when the yanks traded for him, despite me not being a Yankees fan (sweeping my Padres in 98 changed my tune forever).

I am, to this day, a fan of Alex Rodriguez the player. Steroids or not, this guy will go down as one of the very best players of his generation, and of all time. He was the best shortstop of his time from the moment he debuted to the moment he had to move to third due to the trade.

As a person, I dislikle ARod. I think he's a coward, I think he's weak, and I frankly I just don't like him. Trying to use the "I felt pressured" BS when reasoning why he did steroids was a huge hit to his character. By that logic, he should've been doing roids since his initial debut, seeing as he was arguably the most talked about up and comer since Griffey.

It just irritated me how he tried to portray himself, the best player in baseball who signed a $250 million deal that changed the way free agency is handled forever, as a victim of his own success. Bull. Shit.

Him cheating on his wife with Madonna, while not exactly plausible, is not really of any concern to me. I honestly couldn't care less.

And Jeter is far and away the face of the franchise. Not even close. If you don't believe me, go back and look at how fans reacted from 2004 to 2008, when the Yankees were losing in the postseason. Neither Jeter nor ARod were all to helpful in losing, but ARod was the one getting hammered. I get it's due to his contract and that he's a bigger profiled player than Jeter, but still.

Getting rid of Jason Frasor would be addition by subtraction, and the fact they sent down Casey Janssen when Dotel was activated hurts my head.

Could you please elaborate that? Are you calling us bandwagon fans? Or are there a lot of bandwagon Yankee fans in Canada? Cause I can't speak for anyone else here. But I come from New Jersey, so the Yankees are the closest baseball team to me. And ever since I have gotten into baseball about 1999. I have been a die hard Yankee fan.

I did not know that. But, 2004? I'm kinda amazed that Yankees "Bandwagon fans" would be around . A definition of a band wagon fan would be someone who's a fan of a certain team who's successful at the time. And 2004 was the Year when the Yankees got Owned by the Red Sox in the playoffs. If anything I would have said that that was when the Red Sox bandwagon fans came around.

Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Manny Ramirez is retiring.

Major League Baseball announced the move in a statement on Friday.

"Major League Baseball recently notified Manny Ramirez of an issue under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," the statement said. "Rather than continue with the process under the Program, Ramirez has informed MLB that he is retiring as an active player. If Ramirez seeks reinstatement in the future, the process under the Drug Program will be completed. MLB will not have any further comment on this matter."

A definition of a band wagon fan would be someone who's a fan of a certain team who's successful at the time. And 2004 was the Year when the Yankees got Owned by the Red Sox in the playoffs. If anything I would have said that that was when the Red Sox bandwagon fans came around.

My city is right across the border from Detroit. The city is basically split into three groups : Tigers fans, Jays fans and Yankees fans. ALOT of Yankees fans show up to the Rogers Centre when New York is in town. 3 of my close friends are Yankees fans.
