I had an American Express gift card that I tried to sign up with before and it did not work... BUT I TRIED IT IN SAFARI INSTEAD OF FIREFOX AND IT WORKED. I think Firefox is doing something to make it not read my location right, which messed it up.

Corporate CockSnogger 05-26-2013 06:19 PM

Just had like a 4 hour nap which has been my longest break from it today. 4 episodes to go but can't decide if I want to power on through and finish or do something else with the remainder of my night.

Ermaximus 05-26-2013 06:29 PM

Oh dear God!

XL 05-26-2013 06:31 PM

I was content to watch all 6 episodes in one sitting...until I realised there are 15 episodes!

Good job I realised, I have work tomorrow, could have been sat here through the night. Gonna take a break and watch an episode of Breaking Bad before bed.

Watched the first 4 episodes, does feel like a "different beast" but the humour is still there.

RoXer 05-26-2013 06:32 PM

I have 4 left also. I think I'll save them for tonight.

It looks like she had some work done. Definitely loving how all their stories are coming together.

Hey Iggy, her?

Triple Naitch 05-26-2013 08:39 PM

Ellen DeGeneres ravaged her unrecognizeable.

Lock Jaw 05-26-2013 09:30 PM

Steve Holt was unrecognizable. I didn't realize it was him at first.

RoXer 05-26-2013 09:32 PM

I'm still not sure if he's in prosthetics to make him look fat or if he is actually fat.

He was big in the addocproject but not this fat

Corporate CockSnogger 05-26-2013 09:41 PM

Well I've just finished it. I can't decide if binging on it helped (because of each of the jokes being fresh in my mind to recognise) or hindered (fatigue) my enjoyment of it.

Might end up putting a couple of spoilers here while I ramble a bit so just in case...

SPOILER: show

On the whole it's a really complex project they've gone for here with so many twists and turns to take in and so many hidden references between episodes and jumbled storytelling. I'm probably gonna have to re-watch it all at some point in the future to get the whole story down in my head chronologically, there's still a couple of things where I'm not even sure what happened.

The wrapping up of the whole plot was a bit of a let down in my opinion. There wasn't really a huge payoff with the whole Cinco de Quatro festival. It was a bit all over the place, and the ending with Michael and George Michael was almost depressing. Not really sure what I was expecting though, but I'm a huge sucker for finale's of seasons/series' that I dunno, was kinda wanting some sort of nice ending or something.

Having complained a fair bit there though, when the jokes were on they were really on. I think RoXer hit the nail on the head earlier on in the thread about some of the dialogue dragging on a bit, and there were a few jokes that happened with, but all the nods back to previous running jokes plus the creation of new ones in this season were great. As well as some of the usual great one liners. GOB's wedding was probably the highlight of the whole thing for me.

GOB's episodes in general were by far the highlights for me actually. Tobias' story was the usual crazy Tobias antics and that was pretty fun. I'm guessing Tony Hale wasn't really available to film all that much cause he was pretty much absent for like the first 10 episodes bar the odd scene, but I think that worked in favour for his episode since it was just the same Buster stuff as in the past, so it didn't seem overdone throughtout all the episodes. Lucille was fun as usual, George had his moments but I thought his episodes were probably the ones that dragged the most for me. Lindsay, George Michael and Maeby were all still spot on with their characters and their stories were fine. I did like the reveal of the real "FakeBlock" thing after so many hours of it seeming like such a huge deal.

So yeah, dunno, kinda jumbled thoughts for the most part. Enjoyed it a bunch, but I'm definitely gonna have to re-watch it all again at some point for the full effect of some of the jokes.

Yeah I wasn't sure if the way they kept making jokes about him looking so much older was added with prosthetics or if the actor himself is actually a bunch older than the character and actually looks like that and it was a breaking the 4th wall kinda joke.

Lock Jaw 05-28-2013 02:34 AM

Just finished up the season.

SPOILER: show
A really different feel from the season 1-3.... but it is a whole different animal really.

They released it all at once because it is pretty much made to watch in a row. It is a very interesting project in that way. Not a traditional TV Series, more like a really long movie. It is designed to be taken in as one piece.

Being so long, it does get a bit jumbled. I can't help but wonder if they could have edited it in someway to make each character's story actually run parallel like in the earlier seasons, rather than revealing new aspects to a scene/event each episode.

I do like the plethora of new characters, and all the various dangling plot threads (provided we get another season that is).

I already said this before, but probably the biggest little thing that bothered me was actually young George and Lucille being played by different actors. Especially Seth Rogan. Took me "out of" all flashbacks, and I nearly missed the point of one when I didn't recognize it was supposed to be Lucille.

Annnnyways.... Probably gonna give it another watch to get everything straight.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-28-2013 11:58 AM

I think it was because they didn't have the budget to make Jessica Walter and Jeffery Tambor look young. Same reason Lindsey looked botoxed to hell. Kristen Wiig was amazing but not Seth Rogen.

CSL 05-28-2013 12:11 PM

I think it's because they'd rather just use famous actor people Seth Rogan and Kristen Wiig and that Lindsey is beyond being made to look anything other than botoxed to hell (which kind of fits right in with her character, especially after George Sr. mentioning "if you have anymore work done...")

Corporate CockSnogger 05-28-2013 12:17 PM

Yeah kinda hated Seth Rogen in it, although I don't particularly like him in general anyway. Wiig was really good as young Lucille I thought though.

Ermaximus 05-28-2013 01:45 PM

Take a guess

RoXer 05-28-2013 01:54 PM

The sign spinner was bad timing too. Definitely not a joke. Everyone knows companies set up their sign spinners at graveyards now. What a shame the cameras had to catch that and they couldn't edit it out.

Lock Jaw 05-28-2013 02:01 PM

Also, Maeby grew up to be a bit of a butterface. While Michael Cera seems to have barely grown up at all.

I really don't wanna type out a review.

Would anyone read it?

Next Big Thing 05-28-2013 04:11 PM

I would.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-28-2013 04:36 PM

Was thinking of doing one myself. Maybe later. I would like to read it.

RoXer 05-28-2013 04:59 PM

SPOILER: show
For starters, I think a lot of the internet needs a swift punch in the face. Kind of like how the season ended. I've been reading a lot of negative reviews, which is fine if they want to be negative because there's a lot to be negative about for season 4, and a lot of these detractors wrote their "scathing" review or formed their opinion of the entire season when they were only 2-4 episodes in. I will never value someone's opinion on something if they don't finish it. In this case, they were not even 20% through with it. I can MAYBE look the other way if you form a valid argument for why you walked out or gave up so early but most of what I read was written after the 3rd episode or so. And a lot of the negative reviews were acting as if their world was coming to an end or something and was very childish.

Now on to my childish review.

The pacing seems weird and that's from a very big domino effect. The length of the episodes are 30something minutes compared to 22 when on network tv. Obviously they have no commercials on Netflix so they are allowed free reign to go as long as they want. And maybe they shouldn't. There were moments when I thought the music was way too loud but then I realized it's because there isn't anything happening on camera. A character is stuttering, someone is walking to/from somewhere, Ron Howard is overly-narrating a scene. It turns out the music wasn't loud, it's just more noticeable because there were a lot of moments of inaction. A lot of filler. It could be blamed on poor editing but I think it goes before that. It seems like having charcter-centric episodes was Mitch Hurwitz's idea from the beginning and it's ambitious but it never clicked. AD is about a lot zany things happening to a lot of characters at once ("once" being per episode and not the entire season) and then ties in at the last 5 minutes of the episode (and not last 4 episodes of the season).

So whatever you want to blame that format problem on (scheduling conflicts, poor editing, overambitious writing) needs to be fixed by season 5. And there will be a season 5. Even if it isn't officially announced, how 4 ended left way too much in the air to end a series on. There will be a season 5 and if there's a movie it will most likely take place after that. And hopefully Mitch Hurwitz will accept some of the criticism and season 5 can revert back to it's original style.

There were WAY too many callbacks to earlier jokes in seasons 1-3. I hope season 5 doesn't callback anything and it's all brand new jokes. I liked just about all of the guest stars. John Slattery's character was great as was Chloe'sFrom24 (will never use her real name). Young Barry Zuckercorn is tremendous too (played by Henry Winkler's son). Terry Crews is great. Everyone was. I liked Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogan too.

The bar for best comedy this year isn't set too high with what's on TV right now. If I would grade this season it would be like B- maybe. This wasn't the best season of Arrested Development but it's easily better than whatever is on TV today. Better than Modern Family. Better than The Office.

Netflix also needs to have a discussion amongst themselves about how to handle the release of original content. I don't think releasing the entire series at once works. Maybe move to 4 episodes per week? That way they can still entice new user with a free 1-month trial. But that's a discussion for another thread.

Lock Jaw 05-28-2013 05:18 PM

Definitely either going to be a season 5 or a movie to wrap this up. Advantages of a movie is it is probably easier to schedule everyone.

Michael Bluth kind of hit rock bottom in this season... he has lost his drive and focus (the Bluth Company) and his family has fallen apart. Even his relationship with his son is down the tubes.

I think the next season/movie needs to be about Michael stepping up again to be the core that holds them all together.

I actually don't think Michael was written much differently between this season and the old episodes. He's always been a bit of an oblivious loser with a superiority complex, which was always justified because the rest of the family were always much bigger train wrecks than him. When the family aren't there for the character to bounce off of, it seems kind of sad and makes him a little less likeable. Also with such a long story arc, there was never really that moment of realisation Michael would normally get where he'd go on to fix his mistakes of the episode, so again in the end he kind of just seems like a bit f a dickhead.

I think Michael was still one of the best of this season, and one of the few characters strong enough to actually hold his own in a long solo episode, but was just the victim a bit again of the cast situation.

slik 05-28-2013 06:38 PM

Still haven't had time to watch it all, but I'm almost there now. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but after Lindsey's second episode, I've been constantly laughing my arse off.

CSL 05-30-2013 10:32 AM

pretty much what Hasney said, loved the first ep then it took a while to get used to the character centric eps/Michael not being the "linking thread" through every ep. Everything G.O.B related was as amazing as ever. A bit unsure about the ending strictly on the basis that there's nothing else been confirmed yet but surely they have to do more. I guess I'd have preferred the original format but once this got rolling/after 4-5 eps, I had fully "bought in". Missing it already :(

I think some people (not here) are shitting on this unnecessarily. Yes, it's not the same Arrested Development. Instead they did something new and different, worked with what they had, and put out a very cohesive, intact, and original season which still had the same heart of the old show.

And I love all the tiny little background things like
