Almost hope the NFL makes it Pats/Ravens in the Thursday opener so the Ravens can beat them for the third straight game in primetime

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:11 PM

Dominating the NFL for over a decade is pretty impressive and worth respect. The Patriots have reinvented themselves 3 times and the only constants are Brady and Belichick. They are also just a season removed from being in the Super Bowl too.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:15 PM

The Patriots are 7-3 against the Ravens all-time. They have won the last 2. One of which was a 1pt game with 24 penalties called by replacement referees and a field goal that should have been reviewed.

I don't like the Patriots either, but they have been really good for quite a while. They've earned the right to be talked about on the big stage. Or any stage, really.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:23 PM

Also, I am aware that the Dallas Cowboys are 0-4 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Now c'mon Droford. I know you are a hardcore Ravens fan and all but you can't honestly be serious about that statement. I picked the Steelers to go 8-8 at start of season and that's how they ended but seriously. If they would have won 1 game they "should have won or at least didn't fuck off during" aka Tennesee, Oakland, Cleveland, Dallas. They would have been in playoffs. Hell I figure if wasn't Bryon Leftwich in the first game may have beat the recently crowned World Champs both times this year. This was their down year. On a down year and with a Starting WR who didn't give a fuck in Wallace they finished .500. Fandom aside you can't be serious they will finish behind Browns.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:27 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are: 58-37 against the Redskins, 58-39 against the Eagles, and 53-38 against the Giants.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:28 PM

Ouch, the Dallas Cowboys are 2-3 all-time against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

3-3 in the John Harbaugh era. Only team to beat tom Brady at home in the playoffs twice.

Also funny they've only had to come to m&t bank stadium twice (1996 was at memorial stadium) and if you remember the 07 game a bad ravens team came real close to ending their undefeated season.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:31 PM

The Baltimore Ravens are 1-3 all time against the Green Bay Packers. I'm not sure how many of those were "primetime".

So, at best they have been equal teams lately. I have a feeling New England will be in the Super Bowl again before the Ravens are.

I think it was Eric mangini on ESPN that had Ben roethisberger ranked top 5 qbs 2 days after the super bowl with flacco nowhere to be found (and tom Brady #1 of course)
Never wanted to punch my TV so hard ever..

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:36 PM

The Baltimore Ravens are 1-3 all time against the Carolina Panthers.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:37 PM

Joe Flacco is elite. Nobody can throw a deep ball to take advantage of busted coverage and the insane catching skills of his wide receivers like Joe Flacco.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:38 PM

The Baltimore Ravens are 4-9 all time against the Indianapolis Colts.

Good job. You blew out the Packers while they had their worst season since 1991.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:43 PM

The only teams the Packers beat that year were the Saints, Falcons, Lions, and Seahawks.

Droford 02-07-2013 11:44 PM

Interesting stat the Vikings have been to 4 super bowls. They have had the lead in those 4 games for a grand total of zero minutes zero seconds

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:46 PM

Quit steaming my gimmick.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:50 PM

Only 4 teams remain that have never appeared in Super Bowl: Houston, Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Detroit.

14 teams remain that have never won a Super Bowl: Arizona, Atlanta, Buffalo, Detroit, Minnesota, Philadelphia, San Diego, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Seattle, Carolina, Jacksonville, and Houston.

The Jets have the longest active streak of years between Super Bowl appearances and Super Bowl Championships: currently 44 years. The Chiefs are next in both categories at 43 years.

Droford 02-07-2013 11:52 PM

In other news the ravens are going to put a statue of Ray Lewis up. I'd put it on the opposite side of the stadium from the Unitas statue

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:52 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are now at 17 years since their last Super Bowl appearance and win.

Also Dro, this is the first year the Ravens were finally able to overcome the eliteness of Brady, Manning, and Rapist McSteelershithead. You act like the Ravens have been whipping their asses for years and are just now getting respect for it. 1 year doth elite not make.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:57 PM

Even the BENGALS made 2 Super Bowls.

James Steele 02-07-2013 11:58 PM

Ironically, both against the San Francisco 49ers. Luckily for the Ravens, Joe Montana was no longer the QB when they played the most powerful franchise West of the Rockies.

Gets worse with Cleveland considering at least Houston, Jacksonville, and Detroit can claim to have hosted a Super Bowl at least once. Everyone else has either played in one or hosted it before in the past.

Can Cameron gets to ruin Louisiana state university football as their new offensive coordinator

James Steele 02-09-2013 08:00 AM

They can't get much worse on offense. LSU is about as incompetent on offense as it gets for an "elite team". Les Miles plays puckerbutt football until he decides to randomly make some "crazy/ballsy/stupid call" to live up to his Mad Hatter gimmick. Been like that with all of his OCs. LSU wins in spite of Les Miles and not because of him.

John Fucking Taylor ruined our shot at Superbowl championshipness. And don't play yourself JS. The Bengals are a revolutionary franchise.

You can thank us(more specifically Paul Brown and everyone associated with them before dumbass Mike took over) for such great things as:

The west coast offense: That's right fucknuts Bill Walsh developed it right in Cincy, he took his ball and went to Stanford/San Fran when Paul Brown annointed Forrest Gregg HC. A bit of Poetic Justice for him to win that SB in Detroit.

We also invented Helmet radios, tiger striped helmets, and the No Huddle Offense.

We also pretty much invented the first round bust with Kijana Carter Dan WIlkerson, Akili Smith and Peter Warrick.

You're welcome?

Evil Vito 02-09-2013 05:44 PM

Anquan Boldin says he will retire if the Ravens release him. He might want to get those retirement papers ready because money is looking like it will be tight with Flacco's deal up along with several other starters.

Such is the reason why repeating in the NFL is a very hard thing. It's just very difficult to keep a Super Bowl team together. There will always be some key guys that leave via free agency.

Droford 02-09-2013 08:44 PM

Flacco, Boldin , ellerbe, reed and krueger will all be playing for the ravens on 9/5

Mckinnie and Cary Williams will go. Williams is expendable with ledarius Webb coming back from injury, jimmy smith and Corey Graham stepping up. Mckinnie is replaceable through the draft with someone more long term solution.

Next Big Thing 02-09-2013 09:13 PM

Boldin makes no sense. If he likes playing for the Ravens so much that he'd rather retire than make money playing for another team, why won't he just restructure his deal to the veteran minimum or something?

Kris P Lettus 02-09-2013 09:20 PM

Rob Ryan to the Saints is official..

CBS Minnesota stating the Vikings are trying to find someone willing to trade for WR Percy Harvin. Vikings no longer want to deal with the constant problems he's having with the coaches.

One current rumor or possibility has the Patriots trading Wes Welker for Harvin but Minnesota would want Welker to have a new deal or at least franchise tagged before considering it. Another scenario has them trading for Harvin but managing to keep Welker as well.

NFL announces as of now they have no backup plans for next year's Super Bowl and already ruled out moving the game to a different location.

The only possible options were to play the game a day early on Saturday or to delay it by a few days if there was going to be a bad snow storm on Super Bowl Sunday.

Could make the same claim about the conference championships since those determine who makes it to the SB. Only difference is people almost never complain about those being outdoors or the weather being a factor like they do with the SB.

Because the conference championship games' location is based on seeding, not a random "neutral" site that is chosen..

Next Big Thing 02-13-2013 05:00 AM

I don't think the NFL is worried about playing the game in snow as much as they're worried about the kind of snow storm that would interfere with logistics and transportation like the one this past weekend. In fact, they're probably banking on some snow to add a new gimmick and level of intrigue to the Super Bowl because they're trying to be too clever for their own good.

Either way it's stupid and kind of fucks the fans that bought tickets and booked hotels for that particular weekend who might not be able to see the game if they delay it by a few days. They better be prepared to hand out refunds too if they pull some bullshit like that.

James Steele 02-13-2013 05:39 AM

How about for a halftime show, they just have some kickass singers sing and cut out all the lasers, lights, pyro, etc.? Have them do it from the pressbox ala Wrigley if they have too.

Nark Order 02-13-2013 01:01 PM

This Percy Harvin thing is getting pretty interesting. The Bengals are sitting on an extra 2nd round pick from the Carson Palmer debacle. If they acquired Harvin, they would be scary as all fuck. Harvin and AJ Green both on the field would create a black hole in the universe.

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2013 01:04 PM

Narc that could really be said of any team with good skilled players.. If the Pats get him and keep Welker, they could have Harvin, Welker, Gronk, and Hernadez, with another WR or a RB..

If the Saints get him (won't happen) you'd get Harvin, Colston, Moore, Graham, and Sproles..

ridiculous

Nark Order 02-13-2013 01:10 PM

Yeah. The Bengals stick out to me because they have tons of cap space and they are sitting on an extra second round pick. They are also maybe one or two good players away from making a deep run in the playoffs.

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2013 01:13 PM

I want Delany Walker but the Saints won't be getting any "big name" free agents this year..

DaveBrawl 02-13-2013 01:14 PM

Maybe the Broncos can get him and take a shot down the field instead of taking a knee with 30 seconds left in a playoff game.

Next Big Thing 02-13-2013 02:18 PM

I don't see Harvin wanting to go to the Bengals though. It's like going from one marginal playoff team to another and since he's in the last year of his contract, any team that trades for him is going to want to make sure he is willing to sign a long term deal because of what they'll be required to give up.

I see the Pats packaging Welker and a couple of picks for him.

18. Cowboys - A "steal at 18" 19. Giants - "BOOOO!"
20. Bears - A replacement for someone old
21. Bengals - I don't know but you need to post his bail first
22. Rams - "Finally someone to catch a pass" but then doesn't
23. Vikings - An elite talent or Christian Ponder
24. Colts - Unless it's the #1 overall pick, you are not familiar with this player
25. Seahawks - A guy that you either thought would go "late 2nd, early 3rd" or literally did not know existed
26. Packers - Someone "tough in the trenches"
27. Texans - Defense 28. Broncos - Literally anything from Von Miller to Tim Tebow
29. Patriots - A defensive back that disappoints
30. Falcons - A pick you genuinely like
31. 49ers - Someone that will be inactive for all of 2013
32. Ravens - A guy that actually is a steal and you have no idea why the Ravens are getting another stud defensive player

Think they will ever have it in the Rose Bowl again?

All but guarantee whenever they build that new stadium in downtown L.A. that will get added to the regular rotation and replace Arizona since Arizona seemed to have replaced San Diego

But AZ has the one of the few 21st century stadiums.. I really surprised that they don't have more in houston..

Don't rule out Simpson. He's a beast too dude.

There's also nothing to do anywhere near the stadium in Arizona. The new L.A. stadium will be downtown.

All the people who are yelling because holding the super bowl outdoors in the winter takes away the neutral site concept should realize that the NFL has been playing with fire for most of the super bowls given its a chance a team could play on their own home field at some point. How unfair to the other team would that be? It'd be hilarious, I suppose..if the super bowl next year is jets/giants

This is why the NFL loves NOLA cause the Dome is downtown and with in walking distance to the french quarter, the marigny, the cbd, warehouse district, lower garden district, etc so it's pretty much a 20 minute walk from hundreds of hotels and thousands or restaurants, bars, and other touristy attractions like the french market, river front, aquarium, casinos, convention center, arena, etc..

Any super bowl in Texas from here on out will likely be in Dallas..

Ideal 5 city rotation

L.A.
New orleans Super dome
Miami
Dallas
Wild Card city to allow new stadiums to host or whatever

DaveBrawl 02-13-2013 09:34 PM

Didn't they say Miami needed upgrades before it saw another Super Bowl?

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2013 09:41 PM

The WWL sports radio guys here always say that Jacksonville was the worst super bowl city..

There was an article about a renovation project to the stadium they are trying to get funded..I doubt it will ever go back to Jacksonville so I assume the other Florida location is Tampa.

I heard the most wonderful news on the 680 the Fan ATLANTA today. The 'Aints are $20 million over the salary cap and will probably have to cut Vilma, Smith and Pierre Thomas among others and that's even if Brees and others restructure.

And of course there is no 2nd round draft pick either. Ouch!

That defense is going to be so bad, it will be ranked 33rd in the NFL! I don't care what you have to say to the contrary Kris P because it will just be the delusion talking. Get your paper bag ready son!

SPOILER: show
And Jimmy Graham is an unrestricted free agent after next season! Good luck making that work and still trying to improve the worst defense ever!

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2013 11:31 PM

$7 mill over cap

On the point of PT, Vilma, and Smith, they could all go IMO..

PT is the fucking man and I absolutely love him but I feel that Sproles, Ingram, Ivory, and Cadet could all be just as successful without him.. We would miss him on early downs cause of the screen or run threat but it's not like our run game has been great anyway..

Vilma, who I also love, fizzled when the Jets switched from a 4-3 to the 3-4, which ultimately was the reason they traded him to us.. Saints are now switching to the 3-4.. I realize he is now playing OLB so it might be different, but I guess we will see..

Smith was a beast early on but has struggled getting to the QB.. He is good a stopping the run but again, I dunno how he would do in the 3-4..
