I miss them, hell I miss all those titles actually and wish they could restore them but I guess the readership just isn't there anymore. Love to see an old school Moon Knight movie or a Werewolf by Night Netflix series.

Hanso Amore 02-22-2014 05:49 PM

Had no idea at all who the guardians of the galaxy were and still don't, but think looks good. Going to make a ton of money

I'm with you on the old Guardians love. Finding second hand copies of that book as a kid is really what got me into comics.

Marvel has really won me over by using nine inch nails songs in their trailers

Fignuts 04-28-2014 11:47 PM

Nebula looks awesome. Wonder if the whole Thanos' grand daughter thing will come up.

Kalyx triaD 04-29-2014 12:08 AM

Her 'relation' to him has been hinted at for a while actually. In interviews.

Fignuts 04-29-2014 12:22 AM

It's weird, because when she debuted, she was hinted at being related to Thanos, but then they never really did anything with it. Never even confirmed whether she is or isn't.

Since she's been able to stand on her own as an intergalactic pirate, I wondered if they'd even bother in the film.

Lock Jaw 04-29-2014 12:36 AM

I have no idea who Nebula is.

The Destroyer 04-29-2014 05:04 AM

I think she's meant to be Thanos' adopted daughter in the film, same as Gamora.

Shadow 04-29-2014 09:22 PM

Nebula claims to be Thanos' granddaughter. When he finds out about it, he kills her and brings her back as a zombie. She got better after he became Eternity though.

I never read the comic, but I want to see this movie really bad for some reason. It just looks like a lot of fun.

XL 05-16-2014 02:52 PM

Absolutely. I had zero interest before the trailer dropped.

Sixx 05-16-2014 04:46 PM

I got interested mostly cause it's MCU. The trailer only got me fascinated even more.

Never read the comics (except for an issue here and there during crossovers) cause I ain't really a fan of Marvel in space.

Swiss Ultimate 05-16-2014 11:43 PM

I imagine this is going to make a lot of money and make Spiderman 2 look even worse by comparison.

Doubt they're even going through with the next spider man films because of how much money they lost.

Umm, lost money?

First one made around 750 mill and the second made almost 600 so far.

Also, even though GoG looks pretty sweet I doubt it will make that much money. Those characters just ain't that popular among people that ain't hardcore comic book fans.

Iron Man wasn't that popular outside of hardcore comic fans either.

Neither was pretty much any Marvel character other than Spider-Man and the X-Men (mainly Wolverine)

Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration.

Production budget was 255 million. Marketing was about 190 million. Critically, this was lower rated than Spiderman 3, although as of right now more audience goers enjoyed it. Even if they manage 600 million worldwide, which they haven't yet it'll be hard to call this one a win. The Franchise is certainly in danger, which is fine by me since I was bored to tears by the Amazing Spider-Man and had no interest in watching this film based on the trailers alone.

As for GOG, I dunno, I don't know the characters, but based on the trailer I want to see this movie. Will probably take my family too. It looks like a fun space-fantasy movie with well-developed characters and humor. I want to watch it. I bet it does well.

The Amazing Spidey movies made a lot of money and they are making more of them.

Swiss Ultimate 05-17-2014 01:27 PM

Maybe. Have they started production yet? It's never too late to change directors/writers/direction.

Might as well go ahead and reboot the whole thing right now.

I think we should do another Spider-man origin and then do an Ultimate Spider-Man origin movie at the same time, and then do a cross-over film with two Spider-men.

Except X-Men made like 4 times its budget, which is a better return than the first Iron Man or Cap films made.

If you're going to use it as a "flop" benchmark, then Marvel have already had one with Incredible Hulk which took in less money than X-Men, even before you start looking at stuff like adjusting for inflation.

I don't think GotG's going to do as well as some of their other stuff, but providing it gets decent write ups I think it should do ok.

Rammsteinmad 05-18-2014 07:33 PM

I think it'll do fine. A lot of people I know have said the trailer looks awesome, and every film I've seen in the theatre that played it before the feature laughed at all the right parts.

Just because they're not known characters doesn't mean the film won't potentially be a success, I mean, isn't that the case for more-or-less every film ever?

dronepool 05-18-2014 07:36 PM

I have to admit, the movie is warming up to me. I like the new poster.

Hanso Amore 05-18-2014 07:41 PM

Nobody knew what men in black was before it came out.

Funny scenese and aliens is going to make good money. Most people won't even realize it's a comic book before going to see it.

Swiss Ultimate 05-18-2014 10:26 PM

Not that popular doesn't mean completely unknown, which GoG is to most people.

That being said, I can't wait to see this movie, even though I don't give a single fuck about them in the comic books.

Hanso Amore 05-23-2014 10:49 AM

Being unknown isnt a bad thing.

My mom saw this trailer and I asked what she thought. She said it looked like a pretty cool space movie. The draw isnt going to be in the fact that it was a comic book, the draw is the marvel name and what looks like a cast of great characters.

Corporate CockSnogger 05-23-2014 12:09 PM

alvarado52 07-01-2014 05:08 AM

CinemaBlend reporting an interesting possibility regarding the Guardians and Phase 3.

Quote:

SPOILER: show
One of the big questions that has been hanging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its first year of existence has been, "What do we do with Hulk?" The Incredible Hulk was viewed as an under-performer compared to other heroes in the Marvel stable, and while the character was certainly a standout in Joss Whedon's The Avengers, there was no substantial role for him found in Phase Two. Stories have been stirring lately about what the studio could be planning for the giant green monster in Phase Three, and now a new interesting bit of speculation has hit the web.

Fair Warning: What lies ahead could be some very big spoilers for The Avengers: Age of Ultron. We're not 100% sure that the rumors and speculation in this story are true - and it very well could not be - but if you don't want to take the risk then I would recommend heading back over here.

SPOILER: show
Without delving into too many details, HitFix says that the final act will see Bruce Banner/Hulk stuck on a rocket with a trajectory set to go into deep space. While some of you might say that this sounds just like a set up for a Planet Hulk movie - a rumor that Mark Ruffalo denied earlier today - this new report suggests that Marvel Studios has something entirely different planned. Instead of having a Hulk solo movie as part of Phase Three, instead the Green Monster will be hooking up with Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

While this rumor is entirely dependent on a) Guardians of the Galaxy being popular enough to warrant an immediate sequel, and b) The Avengers: Age of Ultron ending with a space-bound Hulk, I am willing to believe it. As proven by the lackluster box office results and critical reception for The Incredible Hulk, the green beast is not the easiest character to sell in a solo venture. That said, Marvel just had an incredible amount of success putting Nick Fury and Black Widow alongside Captain America in The Winter Soldier. If the studio is seeing grouping as a viable option for boosting their under-performing properties, I don't see why Hulk being a part of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is that far out an idea.

Of course, one possible obstacle here is Mark Ruffalo. One of the principal reasons why a Planet Hulk movie wouldn't work is because it would feature almost all green guy and very little Bruce Banner, and give the actor very little time outside of a motion-capture suit. If Ruffalo wouldn't be pleased with that, would he be pleased with the idea of once again sharing the spotlight with five or more other lead characters, as he will have done by that point in two Avengers films? This is information only Mark Ruffalo knows, and even if you were to ask him about it he would have to keep tight lipped due to Marvel's secrecy policies.

As of now, Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a rather empty slate. Peyton Reed's Ant-Man is penciled in for July 17, 2015, and Captain America 3 is being prepped for May 6, 2016, but the schedule remains wide open beyond that. The studio has planted flags on both July 8, 2016 and May 5, 2017, but neither title has been announced yet. In addition to rumors of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 being a part of Marvel's future plans, they also have both Thor 3 and Doctor Strange in the works.

*Got tickets for tomorrow at 2, like I said the trailers got me curious/interested.

The guy (Tyler Bates) involved with the music of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is part of /involved with the current line up of my favorite band in the world -

WAMG: What other projects are coming up for you?
TB: For now, I’m going on tour. I just finished co-writing and producing Marilyn Manson’s new record. That was fantastic. We have a great relationship and we’re very good friends. We work very naturally together, so this music was really just us having fun. It turned out to be his new album. We worked hard on it and really enjoyed it. He did bring it to my attention that it would be insane of me not to go out and play this record with him. It’s obviously a rare opportunity and it’s where I come from – making records in my earlier days. I’m super psyched!
I’m fortunate to have the TV show “Salem” that did really well its first season. The people involved in that are so great. It was such a pleasure to work with them. Manson and I did the title sequence on that, which will return for another season.
I’m working on another show called “Kingdom” which I’m very excited about. It is a drama centered around a Mixed Martial-Arts gym and the family that owns it.
I just finished on a movie with Keanu Reeves and Willem Dafoe called JOHN WICK. That was very cool. As with GUARDIANS, there are songs interspersed in this film as well. There’s a song I wrote with Marilyn Manson. There’s a song I wrote with my friend Ciscandra Nostalghia, whose career is blowing up right now. I worked on the score with my friend Joel Richard. It’s really a great collection of people on the team.

Seriously thinking of seeing this again. The only film I've ever seen twice in the cinema was Avatar, because I saw it in 2D and then wanted to see it in 3D (which ended up being shite in my opinion). But yeah, genuinely loved this film so much. The action, the humour, the acting and story, everything is spot-on. I'm really excited for all you guys who have yet to see it, and really excited to see this hopefully become another huge hit for Marvel.

Rammsteinmad 07-31-2014 02:17 PM

5,461 users on IMDB so far have rated this an average score of 9.0. Whilst it'll obviously go down a lot over the next few days, this still leaves me hopeful that it'll be a huge success.

I just got back from the cinema and I quite enjoyed the film; I thought it was fun. I don't know if I liked it more than Captain America: Winter Soldier, but still, I thought it was better than Dawn of the Apes.

When exactly is Thanos going to be the main villain in one of the Marvel films, instead of just being in the shadows?

Jura 08-01-2014 11:38 AM

Looks like Avengers 3 which is slated for 2018 but I imagine there's gonna be a lot of different Marvel movies in between Avengers 2 and 3 to kind of connect things here and there. It seems like they're setting up the Avengers films with the other Marvel movies while still keeping each movie as their own individual film.

Corporate CockSnogger 08-01-2014 01:44 PM

Good deduction, Sherlock

dronepool 08-01-2014 05:13 PM

I actually really enjoyed this. One of Marvels best.

My FB post about it-

Guardians of the Galaxy was very good. If you think comic based movies are limited to certain things.. Many are so I can't disagree but this was very well done, it wasn't rushed to make a quick buck, it used obscure character leads and took risks. Winter Solider was the most thought provoking with underlining themes while this is the most unique presentation of a Marvel movie yet.

Kalyx triaD 08-01-2014 07:09 PM

Some MCU Notes:

SPOILER: show
- With the Collector's place trashed; where now is the Aether?
- The Power Stone (cube), Mind Stone (staff), and Life(?) Stone (purple gem), and Reality(?) Stone (Aether) are out there. Almost at a full gauntlet set. I think Dr. Strange may reveal the last one.
- I'm thinking whatever's going on with Quill is what's up with Skye.
- I think Loki was the buyer Yondu was working for.

This movie was fucking awesome. Happy with literally everything.

Also, amazing and unexpected post credits scene.

I went to a sneak peek on Wednesday night. The movie was just fun from the start. It reminded me of Star Wars, but less serious. Chris Pratt was awesome. Zoe Saldana was even hotter as a green chick. The raccoon pretty much stole the entire movie. Batista was actually really good, and I think that he will get the most praise of his entire career from this wrestling forum for this movie.

I saw it in 3D though, and that gave me a headache while I got adjusted to it. I might go see it again in the standard theater. I really hate most of what Hollywood comes out with because it is garbage until Oscar season, but this was a great popcorn/fun/funny flick.
