Gameplay wise blackwall >>>>>>> casandra. Her specialization is nice but not half the tank he can become.
|
It's because he has a penis. Penis = + 10 to tanking probably.
I love the banter between Sera and Solas. He was saying some shit in Elvish or something and she interrupted him and it was along the lines of: Sera: *PFFT* Solas: WHAT!? Sera: I mean, if you are going to say something, use actual words that mean something. Like what I am saying now.... real.... words. Solas: It is a tradition to say a prayer when.... Sera: *PFFT* again. Had me cracking up since they are both Elves and should share the same cultural things. |
Haha YES. Sera with anyone is gold. Her asking Bull about Qunari women was laugh out loud funny. Shes my fav so far.
Cole is my least fav. |
Have not yet met Cole. I am going back to Redcliffe next time I play to progress the story a bit further.
|
They give you the party very early. If you check the inner circle tab in the quest log you may already have the quests and havent realized it.
|
I get so lost in quests in that game. I really enjoy all the side quests though. They aren't too many of the fetch quests (bring me x amount of y item, etc) which is great. I end up with intentions of progressing the main quest but always become sidetracked.
Such a great game, one of the best RPG's I've ever played, and that is not exaggerating. |
I've been going with Blackwall, Cassandra and Vivienne. Solas when I know it's going to be a tough fight, since I maxed out his healing/barrier tree.
Having two tanks as well as having the stealth perk that makes the enemy ignore me, is working great. Don't know if I'll ever use Sera or Cole. Will have to check their specialty tree. I know Sera has some exploit that makes killing anything a cinch but fuck that. I've actually started playing as my other party members for extended periods so I can experience the other classes, because I realized early on that there is no way I'm doing a second playthrough. It's just way too big and way too long. |
Now thanks to this thread I have to get this....Thanks a lot guys. :shifty:

YOU'RE WELCOME!

Also the double tank approach would work well for a low defense melee character. I wouldn't have thought of that. :y:
|
I'm a rogue archer, and I have put a lot into the the poison tree. Into stealth as well. Haven't even touched daggers though.
|
Ohhhhhh very nice. I can see that working out
|
It really does. I usually take a spot above the fray (got a "do more damage from above" perk) and just poison everything, then shoot enemies with the really hard hitting archery perks. If any of the enemies start heading my way, I just use the stealth cloak perk and they turn around and go back to getting their face smashed in by my tanks.
Only problem is those fucking tall skinny demons that teleport directly on top of me and knock me down. |

Yeah they suckkkkkk
|
If any of your tanks have challenge use the tactical cam and draw them in. Turn its tactics off so they dont waste it on some grunt
|
Sided with the Mages last night and completed the first quest chain leading up to the fight with
SPOILER: show Looking forward to a 3 day weekend this weekend, HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Made it to Skyhold, holy content Batman.
Destor (or anyone else that has progressed far enough). Is the main character stuck with the Inquisitor speciaization, or can I obtain a class spec on top of the inquisitor spec? I was half asleep and baked and don't remember choosing anything :| Another reason, kids, to just say NO. |
You get one on top of it. Check the inner circle quests and you should have the specializationquests available
|
Take each party member out with you and it will give them their specialization. Check each of the three of your class amd see which you would prefer for your inquisitor
|
I dinged 9 and all my other party members automatically received theirs.
I saw that once I dinged 10 I was given the option to pursue quests for said specializations. I just didn't want to progress too far if I fucked it up. Thanks Destor. |
Those quests can take about 2 hours to complete.
Out of curiosity which one are you leaning toward? |
The Assassin tree. I gained Cole and played as him for a couple of hours to get a feel. I already do pretty good damage without the spec, I can only imagine when I jump into this tree how much improved things will become.
Not sure how it scales, but from (level 10) stealth I can crank out 700 damage, per hand, per use. Insta 1400 dmg + Deathblow makes most fights end rather quick. |
Bout to start playing this finally wooooooo.
|
Which path would be best for archery?
|
Check the alchemy tree. Its almost a no ckntest for archery.
Also skyhold is the most impressive base in the history of gaming. |

Took me over an hour to explore everything in skyhold.
|
It was prolly 20 hours in i noticed there was a dungeon.
Its just staggering. |
Executed a judged fuckhead last night. He deserved it!
|
Had to respec bulll the last two moves of reaver are just not worth it.
|
I gave bull a few skills on the defensive tree and then found a ring that generates 10% guard on hit. He reminds me of Juggernaut now. Devastates the shit outta everything while taking minimal damage.
|
I ended up giving him thebreaver tree up until the last two moves and filling the two handed tree. Works well now. Much less baby sitting.
|
BEAVERTREE
|
Ha! Well...he goes both ways...
|
Haven't had the chance to play since I managed to finish the Assassin quest. Was able to find a vendor for the Deathroot but 100% had to google maps for the god damn tokens. Probably roamed around Crestwood for a good 2 hours before looking it up. Very specific spots, seems like they would be difficult to find without looking.
Going to start talking to my party in Skyhold, hopefully develop a few things. Gotta admit though, not a single character seems very interesting at this point. |
The specialization quests arent cakewalks thats for sure. They make you work for it.
The party has grown on me. My first 40 hours I felt underwhelmed by them (and maybe still do but less so.) |
First 40 hours? Get your moneys worth then?
|
First 40 hours can seem like 40 minutes, really. I can't believe I have sunk a little over 20 and have done so little (level 12).
|
Im 104 hours in...
|
Still not hit the level cap
|
Looking forward to some play time over the next 4 days off.
Going to play through a 2nd time as a nice guy and a warrior. Being a complete fuckhead to people this playthrough. |
Haha very nice! Will you be dps or tank?
When i play again i will change my world state. I wish i had Alistair as a warden and not on the throne. Also i will be a cunt rogue. |
Haven't decided just yet, tank probably. After changing a few things around on Bull, I am reeeeeeeeally thinking about 2h dps.
Being a cunty rogue is the best :D |
Haha i can really see the potential!
|
Finished the shard collecting. Well worth the effort.
Also 1 Dragon left. Fought two back to back without going to camp. I plan on saving the last one for right before i go into end game mode. I have three zones to wrap up andd then its time to end it. |
Beat it. 120+ hours. Great game.
|
HOLY SHIT.
Stay after the credits. |
Managed to get a few more hours in on this one. Did some major campaign quests, including assaulting a keep in the Western Front. That was by far the coolest fucking sequence in the game so far, from the Ritual Tower down to the actual assault.
Also SPOILER: show Managed to get a couple daggers over the 300dps mark, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally melting shit now and only expect it to get better but tougher too. |
Very impressed at the sheer size of this game, still.
So many different environments. I like how they incorporate elements from the war council table into questing. What I mean is that some of the little quests on the table lead to opening new areas of already unlocked maps, like the Darkspawn areas in the Western Approach. So much to do in this game. |
The size of the game is amazing. With my job i end up working part time through the holidays and i just got absorbed in it
And the quest you mentioned was really really good. All the main story quests were excellent. |
After you complete the campaign, can you muck about in the world still? Generally don't bother as a completionist, but this is a great game that I absolutely do not mind spending tons of time in.
I would search for it myself, but do not want to come across spoilers. When Morrigan shows up, gonna ask her about our baby and WTF he is doing. |
Yes you can.
|
Obtained deft hands yesterday and opened up my first door. Received some badass loot, including a major helm upgrade for me. My Rogue crits for around 1500 with twin fangs, ridiculous.
Also in awe at the beauty of some of the maps. Just arrived in the frozen one last night. Can't remember it because I literally arrived, went through the intro speech with the scout and saved/shut down. Also disappointed SPOILER: show Not sure if that needs tags, but did it to keep people from having a fit. |
Bioware announced all romance options prerelease so id say its not. Also viv isnt romancable.
Emprise du Lion is like a maze but might be my favorite map. The Hissing waste is so incomprehensibly big that i had to use a mount to map it. |
Its a desert though lol
|
Emprise du Lion - that is the name I was looking for. Absolutely LOVE that map based off the visuals thus far.
Sucks about the romances. Guess if you are a hetero male, your only choice is Cassandra then. She seems nice when she's drunk and talking to Varric but she doesn't approve much of what I do because I decapitate people and stuff. I also sided with the mages so she is pretty seriously pissed for that one too. |
Hell, the Western Approach has 25 zones on the map, is the Hissing Wastes map bigger than that?

Its a huge vast desert and you really feel like it is when you have to cover ground there. |
The romance options for anyone interested in spoiler tags just incase youre weird about that stuff:
SPOILER: show |
I'm gonna start this at the end of this week, I promise.
Just gotta spend an hour on the computer here and plug in all my decisions into The Keep and upload. |

Rifts are starting to become challenging, sometimes spawning two pride demons and a despair demon all in the same round. I can nearly one shot the despair demons with my rogue, but then they do their spinny jump 100 feet away thing, which is just annoying :P |
Yeah to deal with them i actually respec'd to give my self some single target control moves. I ran one tank and three glass cannons so of they got off my tank it was bad news fast. Plus everything in the hissing wastes in lvl 19 or so there theyre especially rough.
Side bar: why did they do away with genlocks and desire demons? They added fear demons and despair demons but removed other staples. Also no ogres. |
No Ogres, but giants.... though they aren't as deadly as ogres were.
Maybe the other demons will be some sorta awesome DLC? |
Giants were a great addition! The one on the storm coast was the coolest :D
|
Im patiently waiting for the dlc too. I will pay all the monies
|
The one fighting the dragon? You know, outside of Hinterlands, I have yet to come across one. I am questing in the Western Front and have some shit to take back to the Dragon hunter fella.
I have heard plenty of them, but generally GTFO of dodge before I see them. They do hurty things to me and mah party. SHould go back to hinterlands and kick that dragon's ass. Think it was level 12 or something. I am level 15 now. |
Yea didnt wanna spoil how cool that was :p
The dragon in the hinterlands is the lowest level and the one in the western front is the second lowest. I think the western front dragon would be easier but either way youre ready to kill em think |
Gonna give it a go after watching some Sons of Anarchy tonight. In-laws are keeping the boy, FFFFFFRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!
|
Ran through the "royal party" part of the campaign last night. Without giving anything away, my Rogue isn't quite as cunty as I thought, as I chose to
SPOILER: show Also met Morrigan again :D She has no effing idea where our kid is, should have known she would have been a deadbeat mom. |
Game gets soooooooooooooooooooooo much better the more I play through it. 2nd playthrough will be better I think, since I have a more firm hold on what I am doing. Also obtained some unique daggers (Knightslayer is one of them) that completely changed my attack animations. I do some jumping, spinning ninja style shit now. Pretty sweet.
If anyone is on the fence, I highly recommend getting this game. |
Started last night. Combat should be pretty quick to pick up. It's a nice blend of the systems of Origins & 2.
Rolled out a Rogue Archer, we'll see how this goes. |
Rogue Archers are EZ mode, no doubt. They can also hit hard as shit though.
Combat is definitely fun, but can seem repetitive until new enemy types are introduced. Stick with it though, it is a great experience. |
Yeah, reeeeeeeeeeally fucking around in The Hinterlands longer than I should be. I'll track down "that guy" and be on my merry way.
|
Just went back there at level 18 and did quests for my level. There is a shit ton to do there.

Just finished the story this morning, and HOLY SHIT is right for the after credit sequence.
Going to keep playing on my Rogue, but also started a sword/shield warrior who I will respec many times to 2H depending on gear and stuff. Also made it female to get some of that elven poon. Love this game, going to play it still, for quite some time. Still a ton to do. |

A,nd as a lore enthusiast there is so much to discuss about the end scene. SPOILER: show |
Started my 2nd playthrough and upped the difficulty. I do miss my insane damage with my rogue, but there is something extremely satisfying about bashing enemies with your shield and causing them to shatter (ice combo) or explode (FIRE! FIRE!!! FIRE!!!!!!!!!). I had not seen the slow motion shatters before, looks very cool. Now if they had a "screenshot" mode like Shadow Of Mordor....
|
|
SPOILER: show |
Playing through a 2nd time, knowing what I now know, makes the game even more interesting, as it pertains to the main story.
Updated my warrior to 2H smash things. Much more fun than sword n board. |
Spending a lot of time doing side missions so I can muster up the courage (and firepower) to take on my first High Dragon.
SPOILER: show |
Just finished and clocked in at 99 hours. Longer than I thought this would go.
Aside from hitting the dragon counter glitch and a save killer glitch at the very end of the game. This was great. SPOILER: show |
Assembled a badass all rogue squad it's amazing sometimes I just sit back and let them stealth kill EVERYTHING!
Favorite memory so far After a few battles and some nice leveling Me:"Ah I feel my power has grown! Stay here my assassins I shall venture back into the hinterlands and solo the dragon!" 10 mins after barely escaping: DO NOT try to solo the dragon! |
lol the tiniest cave

DLC is inbound. Trailer for 'Jaws of Hakkon' will be released tomorrow. XB1 and PC get the DLC first.
|
Need to start playing this again, just gotta find the time.

Why am I stuck at some fancy royal party when I could be outside chopping the heads off demons? argh

THat Royal party is an amazing part of the game. Let it play out.
Unless you are referring to another party in the DLC? |

What did you decide at the end of the event?

Not there yet I will probably finish up on the week end I was late back to the ball and "while I didn't dazzle the court I didn't look foolish either."

Tip, Kira. Move fast. You're on a clock on that mission.
