You want THAT pip boy or A pip boy?

Unless the one being released with 4 directly interacts with the game itself, you can buy a pip boy now that interacts with the game menus, as this one has been described.

Well to be fair, you could probably buy a knock off. The app is free for phones regardless, you just need to get your phone on your wrist.

Right, but if it only goes through the game menus, there are pip boys that do that NOW without an app.

Nah, what I mean is the phone app can be used to take the place of the in-game menus, like equipping things. The Pipboy is just a piece of plastic.

Mods confirmed for PS4 as well. Order will be that person makes it for PC, then if compatible with XB1, will be exclusive for a bit then on PS4.

So far the biggest news in my opinion is Fallout 4 PC mods being downloadable to the Xbox One version. That is fucking huge. That has been, for decades now, the biggest advantage PC gamers have had over the consoles. Mountains of new content, completely free of charge. Obviously there is a lot of it that is shit, but anyone who has dabbled in mods for popular games like Skyrim will tell you that there is an insane amount of genuinely great content as well. Far more then you will ever get as DLC.

drave 06-16-2015 05:35 AM

Yea, fucking IMMENSE for sure.

Really hoping this sets a "standard" and can start happening with more titles.

According to Bethesda, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will have its graphics "dialed back a bit" compared to the PC version in order for it to have the same content and gameplay options be possible.

Console versions will be locked in at 1080p and 30fps while the PC won't have any restrictions.

I'm doing a playthrough of 3 after I'm done with the Batman games. Figure by the time I finish there will still be a good month or two before 4 hits to give myself a break.

Fignuts 06-25-2015 08:31 PM

Bethesda honored the 2,200 bottlecaps someone sent them and have reserved a copy of the game for them.

That's cool.

That combined with the lead designer's e3 presentation, where he was just kinda wingin' it and shooting the shit, as opposed to all the slimy comrporate execs coming out with cliched fake "we at horseshit productions are dedicated to bringing you blah blah blah" makes me really like Bethesda.

Seems like one of the last big companies that actually give a shit about the people buying their games.

Anyone who was interested in the Pip Boy collector's edition but didn't pre-order yet very likely won't have a chance at grabbing one now baring paying scalpers at eBay and other places.

Bethesda announced they are no longer making any more Pip Boys with the final stock already done.

Emperor Smeat 07-02-2015 06:07 PM

Bethesda holding a special deal for pre-ordering the game on the official Xbox website with Fallout 3 being given away as a free gift. The only catch is Bethesda isn't sure when it will actually be playable on the Xbox One.

Quote:

esterday, Fallout 4 went up for pre-order on Xbox.com. Generally, this just means people can plop down money for a game that will release later. But, this circumstance is somewhat unique because Bethesda's offering a digital copy of Fallout 3 with Fallout 4 pre-orders.

According to Xbox, a code for Fallout 3 will be delivered seven to ten days after the pre-order is made. For now, Fallout 3 can only be played on Xbox 360, but "[it] will be included in backwards compatibility access when made available."

It's definitely planned, but no one's quite sure when it's happening. Even Bethesda doesn't know. When asked for a window that we could expect, a Bethesda representative told us "In terms of timing, we don't know what the time frame is as to when backwards compatibility will happen." They went on to suggest that maybe Microsoft could elaborate when Fallout 3 would be included in the program.

The Bethesda rep did clear up one tidbit about the pre-order bonus, though. The version people will get is the base game, not the Game of the Year edition. They commented "It is the intention that the DLC will also be made backwards compatible, but it is not part of the pre-order program."

VATS system getting overhauled for Fallout 4.

Quote:

Fallout 4 will feature an overhauled V.A.T.S. system in an effort to make the feature more exciting for players, director Todd Howard has revealed.

Introduced in Fallout 3 as a compromise between the series turn-based roots and real-time reinvention, V.A.T.S. allowed players to freeze time and target enemies’ individual body parts by spending Action Points, or AP, from a limited pool. The system enabled a bit of old-school tactical thinking from players, allowing them to pause the action, weigh their percentage chances of success, and focus on weak points or limbs to do extra damage or cripple enemies for an extra advantage.

Many of those basics will remain intact for Fallout 4, but with a few crucial changes.“We found some ways to make it a bit, not a ton, but a bit more dynamic,” Howard told The Telegraph in a recent interview.

For starters, time will no longer freeze completely. Instead, Howard explained, it’ll continue to progress in slow motion, putting a ticking clock on your decisions. “It’s very, very slow and you’ll see the percentages change because the person is moving behind or coming out of a wall. So queuing up the shot at the right time matters.”

Also of note: Howard said critical hits will no longer be randomized, though details on that are a bit fuzzy. “You assign which shot is the critical one and you load up that bar. So it’s a little bit more under your control, not a lot, but just enough to make it feel better,” he said.

Shadow 07-08-2015 06:59 PM

I, for one, welcome the VATS change.

road doggy dogg 07-08-2015 10:33 PM

tbh I very rarely used VATS in FO3/NV. Obviously 1 and 2 were different. Feels like the type of thing much more suited to a turn-based game than real-time but w/e

New gameplay footage currently planned to be shown off during QuakeCon 2015 later this month according to Bethesda.

Won't be a public showing though.

Quote:

During the popular Dallas convention, Besthesda will show off live gameplay footage for fans behind closed doors. Sadly, it won't be shown to the public and will only be seen by QuakeCon attendees. Also, just like previous special showings at the convention, recording and photography of the live demo will be prohibited, as the developers hate seeing bootleg footage of their games online.
Also more about the new Doom game will be shown off as well.

V.A.T.S. proved to be most crucial to me when I'd need to take down one of the 5 Super Mutant Behemoths needed to be killed for the "The Bigger They Are..." achievement in Fallout 3.

In New Vegas it was most crucial when I decided to try to take down that massive family of Deathclaws living at the quarry.

Tom Guycott 07-10-2015 08:36 AM

V.A.T.S proved useful to me as one of those who had played 1 and 2 and was used to turn based action and not FPS. I also had not gotten in on any Elder Scrolls action at that time, so the engine was all new to me.

Unrelated: with all the callbacks, I wish they'd find a way to possibly introduce an Avellone. Hell, if Harold found his way east, Chris could have too. Or raised a family of ethical mercenaries who all went to different parts of the country to hunt down those with super low karma (or specifically anyone branded "child killers", but since that's a no-no/not even possible in the modern games, maybe they could change the parameters to child slavers?)

Bethesda recently revealed some details on how the perks system will work.
Quote:

Perhaps most crucially, the developer confirmed that you’ll earn a perk every time you level up. That’s the approach Fallout 3 took, but it’s far from standard. The first two Fallout games only granted you a perk once every three levels, while 2010′s New Vegas, the most recent release, offered one for every two.

In another big change, each perk you unlock will now be tied to and organized under one of the seven S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes that define your character’s aptitude in various areas of gameplay. It’s currently not entirely clear whether that means players with a high stat in one attribute will be able to get a bigger benefit from a perk that’s tied to it. That would certainly be an interesting change from how the series has handled things in the past.

Only one perk was confirmed to return, Bloody Mess, which turns your kills into more of a gory bloodbath. No doubt plenty of other old favorites will be back, too.
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...-in-fallout-4/

EGMNow had a write up of all the stuff shown during the exclusive Quakecon demo shown recently at the event. Besides the perks system, the companion system was shown off and the new scavenging ability the dog has for the game.

http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...ons-and-perks/

DAMN iNATOR 07-24-2015 08:58 PM

Probably won't have the opportunity to play it anytime soon unfortunately, but I'd love to see, amongst other perks, Here and Now (advances you 1 full level immediately upon taking) & Grim Reaper's Sprint (reveals all major map locations), return.

Tom Guycott 07-25-2015 12:42 AM

Don't you mean "Explorer"? Grim Reaper's is AP refresh on a kill. And Here and Now is a waste, unless they chose this game to make leveling insanely hard to do.

DAMN iNATOR 07-26-2015 02:37 AM

Yeah. Shows how long it's been since I've played FO3, LOL.

But yeah, I'll stand by my statement. Here and Now, Grim Reaper's Sprint, and Explorer should all definitely make returns.

If I ever do get a decent deal on a PS4/XB1 and finally get to experience it I hope they won't be messing with my fav. skills...I needs me my Speech, Sneak, Science and Lockpicking skills.

Tom Guycott 07-26-2015 01:19 PM

An unsung perk from New Vegas I wouldn't mind returning is "Four Eyes"... provided they didn't change how glasses aren't altered by most hats or helmets. They were a lot more scarce than in FO3, but since you can pilfer some from the good doctor (which doesn't count as stealing), that should hold you until finding some to repair them with and you negate the penalty for not wearing them before you even leave the house. That's a Perception point I can drop elsewhere on the initial SPECIAL allocation.

Also, while Bloody Mess is fun, not to mention a staple since the beginning (not to mention how to get the "most satisfying" ending from the first game), the newer games sometimes make it hard to scavenge from a thin red paste and gibs than a full- or only missing one limb, tops- corpse. Nice to know it's there, but unless it alters some point in the game in a major, perk specific way (like Wild Wasteland does), it'll never see use from me.

DAMN iNATOR 07-27-2015 05:29 AM

I invested a lot of my initial S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points in Luck. Actually really enjoyed all the casinos on the New Vegas Strip and the one in the town where to leave you had to either prove you had enough credits to enter New Vegas' Strip, or if you had high enough Science you could hack the Protectron and program it to let you through.

Always enjoyed making tons of $ on the slots before being kicked out and also playing Caravan, particularly with Novac resident No-Bark Noonan. Lot of those credits got spent at the Gun Runners and the New Vegas Free Clinic. :)

Before the initial big post-launch patch that fixed some major bugs, balancing issues, and the fact that you had to drop playing cards and pick them up again to add them to your deck, Caravan was one the biggest player favored scams in the game.

When the game dropped, the money pool against the NPC vendors were combined, and the number of times you could play each potential sucker was unlimited. This meant that you could clean them out by playing a few hands, buy all their shit, then win that money back after. By the time you hit Primm, The Outpost, and Novac up for all their goods and caps/dollars/denarii all from fast travel, it would be about enough days time elapsed for the vendor refresh to kick in, and the first player you hustled would have new items and more money. You'd be rich before you even got CLOSE to Vegas (unless you know how to sneak past the deathclaws to take the shortest way... which has also been sort of patched, as they added more deathclaws, nearly assuring you'll be detected. Nearly. ^_-)

Alas, that's all gone. Have to break the economy in different ways. There's still the 100% gold trick from the Sierra Madre, but that's tedious and non-renewable.

DAMN iNATOR 08-02-2015 07:02 PM

Wow. I knew they'd patched the fuck out of some shit with the "Fallout: New Vegas Complete Edition", but holy fuck, what you just described is insane.

I remember installing all the DLC from the Complete Edition DLC disc and rushing to get all my pre-gaming for my trip to Helios One out of the way, and then tackling the "That Lucky Old Sun" quest given by a guy called Fantastic, I think. You could overload a terminal and go back to Ignacio Rivas and tell him you'd done so as a special dialog option and receive a small amount of stimpaks and doctor's bags, and it could be repeated ad infinitum until you had as many of each as you wanted, as well as you would get like +350XP for each time you did so and could easily max your level early on.

Well, as it turned out, the DLC installation caused that to be patched, and I was pissed until I remembered to uninstall the DLC and proceed with the quest and reinstall the DLC.

Not gonna lie, I exploited the shit out of that bug/glitch and took as much as I could carry, LOL. Good times.

Tom Guycott 08-03-2015 06:50 AM

Oddly enough, I have no problem exploiting money holes, but experience loops kind of take the fun out of things for me. And as far as the DLC, it seems to be separate recognition for the GOTY and standard download versions. I have some duplicates of quest rewards because I installed GOTY on my slim 360 when I upgraded. So, I ended up with two sets of Burning Man armor, all the GRA and pre-order stuff when it ticked off I had all of it installed twice.

DAMN iNATOR 08-03-2015 10:02 AM

I think that may be part of the reason why they're introducing different "zones" that you'll basically have to stay within at first in order to avoid being badly outleveled and inferiorly equipped (I.e., a lv. 2 VH vs. a lv. 25 super mutant wouldn't end well for the player...).

Some people might complain about not being able to freely roam the entire map from the start, but I actually think it will be a welcome change.

drave 08-03-2015 10:58 AM

No.

"On paper" it sounds dumb, especially comparing to past FO experiences. I will reserve judgment for now, as I will with the "dramatic changes" to FF VII.

Emperor Smeat 08-03-2015 06:10 PM

According to the lead producer, it can take up to 400 hours to find and do everything in the game because of how it is in terms of scope.

Quote:

“I’ve played the game for probably 400 hours, and I’m still finding stuff I haven’t seen,” Bethesda’s lead producer, Jeff Gardiner, said in the latest issue of OXM, as spotted by Gamespresso.

Fallout 4’s new crafting system contributes a lot of that new content, Gardiner says. In a first for the series, players will be able to fully customize weapons and body armor, as well as specific sections of the Wasteland through custom-built settlements that can even support electronics and automated computer systems, provided you’ve got a generator.

To keep the crafting from becoming too overwhelming, the game apparently includes special features to help players organize their scavenging efforts. “You can actually flag stuff to say ‘I’m looking for this stuff because I want to make this,’ which means that when you’re scavenging anything that fulfills the requirement gets flagged in the world,” Gardiner explains.

Nah, they're going to have some stupid-ass BS where various zones of the map will have levels higher than you are. I highly suspect they want people to play the main story in a linear way so you can't just rush from Main mission 1 - Final main mission in record time or some dumb crap.

Shadow 08-08-2015 05:12 PM

I'm not exactly unhappy with that. I loved how in New Vegas you had a definite path to take and couldn't just rush from point to point. Felt like I was on a journey with definite landmarks. Whereas in 3, you could just go from 101 over to Vault 112 and skip half the game's content. Here, I'm actually happy about this.

Apparently the closed off demo videos of Fallout 4 shown during Gamescom are currently available to view online but with a twist ... the video links are hosted on a porn website for some unknown reason.

Fallout 4 was at gamescom 2015 in the form of a closed off theatre demo you could wait in a real long line for. But why wait in a line when you can just watch "Hidden Camera Shows Audience Teased by Big Butt Man in Tights Live" on line. Hah.

It's actually not about butts at all, but a sneaky recording of Fallout 4.

You can watch it here, but obvious NSFW warning, as it leaks to a porn site with videos like, "Babe Red-head lesbian," "Wake me for Sex," and "Titfuck until completion."

That'd be great if I stumbled across it. Dick out, ready to cum over some vid... "WATI, is that Fallout 4?" then I would take in the half hour before resuming the porn hunt.

Fallout Shelter dropped for Android.

Emperor Smeat 08-13-2015 05:45 PM

According to Bethseda, the game's crafting feature is completely optional to use for those that don't care about the feature or at least during the first time playing the game.

It’s a completely optional, freeform thing that you can do, if that’s what you want to do. If you don’t care about that and you just want to play quests and play side quests, and finish the main quest and that sort of thing then you can just ignore all of this [crafting]. Or do as much or as little as you want.

Its ok Bethesda. You've got my money. You don't need to keep selling me on this game.

And it's a real piece of shit, too. All you do is herd people into your vault, assign them to power/water/food management, try to gey them to reproduce every once in a while and build more and more crap. You can send people out into the wastes to kill shit and scavenge resources, but that's really all it's about...figuring out who to put where and when and clicking the power/food/water icons when it's time to.

1/10, IMO.

DAMN iNATOR 08-14-2015 08:05 PM

I should point out I was very much excited to play the app, too, and obviously was sorely disappointed in it...went from playing it to uninstalled in a couple of hours or so.

drave 08-14-2015 08:27 PM

You could have figured out everything you bitched about months ago if you read about it.

DAMN iNATOR 08-15-2015 03:31 AM

TBF, I actually did read about it before trying it, just wanted to see if there was any truth to the "review"...naturally, I was skeptical at first, but the more I kept playing, the more I realized the person who's review I had read wasn't just talking out of their ass.

Heisenberg 08-15-2015 10:24 PM

umm, it's not only resources and shit, you can just make them fuck the whole time and have little vault dwellers running around into RUSH areas and watch them flee from that shit too

DAMN iNATOR 08-15-2015 11:55 PM

I know...there's minor shit like that and giving them outfits and weapons and building more and more rooms...but for me, it just didn't add to the rather shallow core game enough for me to justify keeping it

Hate to say it, but it seems to me like a "freemium" game with its monetization of buying lunchboxes and Mr. Handys buried in the "Pip-Boy Menu".

Heisenberg 08-16-2015 12:35 AM

They don't commit to one person, it's a fuck free for all in there

Shadow 08-16-2015 04:08 PM

Handy's are .99. They're literally easy mode for the game so you don't have to watch it all the time. For fuck's sake.

Tom Guycott 08-17-2015 09:09 PM

Just gonna pull this outta context...

And I'm also going to try to counterbalance Damn's negativity by stating that I like the game, not just as a Fallout fanboy, either. Its a great diversion for what it is. Except for deathclaws. Fuck those.

Glad they didn't make the "bullshit currency" useless and made lunchboxes accessible by other means than just spending actual money. And as such, if you spend actual money, the only guarantee you have of anything is the separate purchase of Mr. Handy. Lunchboxes purchased are just as random as lunchboxes gained from completing tasks.

But I spent actual money on Mr. Handy. Not bad. You can't heal him, but you can resurrect him like any other dead dweller (though it is fixed at 2000 caps).

Just as long as this stays out of the actual retail game and stays its own thing, its fine.

Fallout Shelter made me crack down and start over like 6 times. Trying to have a reasonable shelter that can do without me sleeping and working.

ummm this is the exact definition of a freemium game

they haven't exactly hidden that fact

road doggy dogg 08-18-2015 12:11 PM

anyway, I haven't played in a while but it got a solid 3-4 weeks of entertainment out of me, not bad for a free phone game

Heisenberg 08-18-2015 12:13 PM

I renamed my whole vault of 20 ppl. Very classy names if you know what I mean

road doggy dogg 08-18-2015 12:19 PM

I didn't bother with renames, but I defs am rocking Vault 316

Mr. Handy helps with that. And at .99, he's a steal.
