Wow. 2 weeks in a row without a comment in the NXT thread. :(

screech 06-20-2020 10:20 AM

I watched the last two episodes yesterday.

I like the Roddy/Dexter stuff. The Gargano/Balor/Lee match should be great. Don't know who Santos Escobar or the other two guys are but I'm interested.

I don't like Cameron Grimes one bit, though.

screech 06-20-2020 10:21 AM

Oh. That Scarlet segment from two weeks ago with the hourglass was very good. Don't know much about her or Kross, but I'm into it.

DaveWadding 06-22-2020 12:47 AM

The Santos Escobar shit is phenomenal. I love it.

I watch every week but the last couple weeks I've had to watch like half one night and half the other so I feel like it would be disjointed even though no one is posting about it but me anyways

XL 06-22-2020 05:06 PM

I don’t watch until usually the morning after due to time difference. Guess that will change when I go back to work. So, disjointed is better than nothing?

screech 06-22-2020 08:49 PM

Now that I'm caught up, I should be able to watch on Thursdays (while I'm working from home anyway) and start actually posting around here again.

xrodmuc316 06-24-2020 09:05 PM

NXT has in very quick fashion made a freaking monster out of Karrion Kross. Bravo!

Mr. Nerfect 06-24-2020 10:30 PM

NXT attracts fans who aren’t obsessive internet fans. They’re close to AEW in numbers but don’t generate the same discussion online. A lot of their “success” (if you want to call it that) is outside the internet bubble.

Triple A 06-24-2020 11:17 PM

I heard that the average age of the NXT audience is like 54 or something also

Emperor Smeat 06-24-2020 11:20 PM

Haven't watched this week's episode yet but did WWE seriously announce the return of The Great American Bash outta nowhere and with no real build to it?

Also just soo happens its being spread out as a 2 week event.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The Great American Bash is now expanding over 2 weeks. <a href="https://t.co/xoRZQzmDoA">pic.twitter.com/xoRZQzmDoA</a></p>&mdash; Fightful Wrestling (@FightfulWrestle) <a href="https://twitter.com/FightfulWrestle/status/1275990928067637248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 25, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

That's one of those bullshit things AEW fanboys spread. AEW does slightly better in the 18-49 demo (probably with a bunch of 45 year old white guys) and they claim that means the audience is young and hip. NXT doesn't do as impressively in that demo, but it also launches on the WWE Network the next day.

I've said from the start that I'm willing to bet the audiences are much more similar than those who take the ratings literally suspect, and that the NXT audience is much larger and diversified than USA live on a Wednesday would tell them, but they tell me that doesn't make any sense, and the reason they give is that NXT isn't in the top one or two shows on the WWE Network each week, as if that's the point.

If 250k people in that demo watch it on DVR and/or the WWE Network on Thursday, sure it's got no effect on the advertising or whatever, but it'd have a younger audience than AEW. They just don't watch it live because they're supporting the other guys for now.

That might have been pre-coronavirus but they've been averaging an older audience than both RAW and SD at least since the start of this year.

Based on a check from Meltzer about a month ago, it went RAW is the youngest at 51, then Smackdown at 54, and finally NXT at 56.

For comparisons, AEW was at 48 years old.

Mr. Nerfect 06-25-2020 01:18 AM

Lol, I went 45 as a jab.

xrodmuc316 06-25-2020 02:02 AM

Ratings mean nothing. It is all an estimate based on an incredibly small sample size. They also have no way to tell who actually watches what per household anyways.

A 10 year old kid watching at his grandparents house is counted as a 70 year old person watching. The data is bullshit.

This is true. Also, given how small the viewership is and how many people Nielsen still speaks for, I think the difference between AEW and NXT is generally about 8 boxes (averaging things out, which is probably not as simple as it works). That's what people get up in arms about and start throwing "the WWE is crumbling!" parties for (not so much here, but definitely in other places).

To be generous about ratings, they're basically like polling, with the data being about 54% in favor of AEW right now, with 46% preferring NXT. It's nuts that people try to literally analyze that audience or make staunch generalizations about them.

I've seriously seen people say that NXT is for boomers and AEW is for young fans.

They have ways to figure that out, especially with the tv tracking device option.

Don't remember how that exactly works but think you have to input stuff every time you watch a show for it to register. When I was a Nielsen participant for a month a few years ago, I went with the diary format since it was the easiest and laziest option instead.

XL 06-27-2020 10:49 AM

Do we have to discuss ratings in every 2nd thread?

Anyways, I don’t like the “Big Mommy Cool” moniker. Too “on the nose” for me.

Ha. I started writing up my thoughts for that “what would you do if you owned WWE” thread but never got around to posting it, one of the things I did was bring back Great American Bash.

lol have you ever listened to the crowd at an NXT event? Both promotions have a large portion of fans that are obnoxious goobers.

I'm not talking live fans, I'm talking eyeballs on TV sets.

Mr. Nerfect 06-27-2020 05:16 PM

Io Shirai vs. Sasha Banks for The Great American Bash.

xrodmuc316 07-01-2020 08:05 PM

NXT - The Great American Bash Night 1 - 7/1/20

Spoiler - it will be better than Fyter Fest.

It's exactly what my biggest issue with AEW has always been, or at least dating back to around February of 2019. The utter adulation they receive by that set of fans is laughable at best. "OMG ADAM PAGE RAN FROM 100 YARDS AWAY, THAT'S AMAZING".

Come The Fuck On.

Glad WWE didn't make Thatcher fix his teeth...

lolllllllll one of the NXT wrestlers in the crowd already spoiled next week's main event

It was Saurav that spoiled it. So much for that tag team.

xrodmuc316 07-02-2020 05:17 PM

SPOILER: show
Wonder if they are going to retape it and have Cole win. Would suck for Lee and Cole and the UE of this delays their main roster callup.

Yeup, especially considering they already have had one big push dropped because some in WWE didn't feel they were worthy for one at the time.

DaveWadding 07-19-2020 12:06 AM

I feel bad for Dijak. Every Lee/Dijak match usually makes both dudes look crazy good. Dijak got "called up" and then sent back just to let Keith squash him for once.

Fignuts 07-19-2020 12:21 AM

Holy shit I’m all for two face rivals showing mutual respect for one another but I thought these two were going to start making out.

Fuck’s sake.

Io vs Nox was painful to watch at times. Didnt seem like they were on the same page at all.

On a positive note, Thatcher and Priest were awesome. And El Legado del Fantasma continues to gain my interest.
