Looking at the standing, the Sox aren't outta the wild card race at all surprisingly

New York has pulled away in the AL East by 8 games but in another division Yankees would be up atleast 6 games up too so its not as bad as I thought

John la Rock 07-04-2004 09:07 PM

the Yankees/Red Sox game from Thursday night was one of the best games of all time. From start to finish it was awesome. The Yanks and Sox never dissapoint :y:

Yashamaga 07-04-2004 09:25 PM

I think we're gonna start turning it around now. Anyone's better than D-Blowe and at least he's not starting for another 5 days.

And the Sox rule at Fenway so it's good we have a homestand now. These next few series with the A's and Angels are HUGE.

So CoE, were you rooting for the Yankees when they got SWEPT (Loose Cannon :naughty: ) by the Mets?

Yashamaga 07-04-2004 09:28 PM

Also

Why isn't anyone talking about Ortiz for MVP? If anyone deserves it, it's him.

Nah, I wanted them to lose as revenge for the Red Sox, and I got my wish.

Well my hometown Astros got there asses handed to them today. I dont like them but still I feel they should of done better. They lost like 18-3 and allowed the Rangers to hit two grand slams off them. It was one crazy ass kicking.

The Sox are still 6-3 against the Yankees this season.

And yes I do realize the Sox are like 6 games back in the division.

BCWWF 07-06-2004 02:36 AM

Anytime the Yankees are swept it helps the Red Sox. If they didn't get swept the Red Sox would be further back. I was simply stating the obvious.

Johan Santana for Cy Young

DegenerationY 07-07-2004 02:44 AM

Jason Schmidt had a 1 hit semi-gem going into the 8th inning. The bullpen then went ahead and allowed 7 runs in the following two innings, denying Schmidt the win he deserved.

Red Sox just dropped 11 runs on Oakland...Hopefully the bats are waking up

The Miz 07-07-2004 03:20 PM

What the hell is wrong with Barry Zito?

BCWWF 07-07-2004 03:50 PM

Whats going on, the Yankee's seem to be losing a lot lately? They're down 8-3 to Detroit right now, Detroit is cool.

Dragon 07-07-2004 04:21 PM

Yeah, the Yankees are struggling with their pitching. None of their starting pitchers have been really reliable lately.

The Miz 07-07-2004 05:53 PM

Has anyone heard about this rumored trade?

Oakland gets:
Michael Cuddyer 3B/2B
Grant Balfour RP
prospects

Minnesota gets:
Barry Zito SP

Loose Cannon 07-07-2004 07:33 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOO, Don't break up The Big Three. They Rule. Zito has really dropped though. But, in Zito's defense, it seems like every good game he pitches, the A's don't give him run support and he ends of losing. It's happened like the past 2 yrs.

BCWWF 07-07-2004 08:15 PM

I haven't heard that, but watching SportsCenter today I was thinking to myself "Why don't the Twins look at Zito, considering we need a new SP." I never thought anything would actually happen though, knowing the Twins.

Looking at that trade, the first thing that comes to mind is that it doesn't seem like Oakland would be getting a lot, considering how good Zito had been in the past. Cuddyer is an all around solid player, the Twins biggest prospect a few years ago. Now he can play most positions on the field and hits well, but he won't be an all star I reckon. Balfour can throw pretty hard and in time I could see him being a real good RP. Maybe theres other prospects involved.

I think that would be a good trade for the Twins though (Obviously), unless Zito was just a huge huge choke, which I don't think he would be. I think that if he stays on Oakland he will break out and be good by the playoffs. Anyway.

MVP 07-07-2004 08:35 PM

ct2k 07-11-2004 01:05 PM

DaveWadding 07-11-2004 03:24 PM

Kerry's just back from injury, so dont expect anything spectacular.

ct2k 07-11-2004 03:35 PM

BCWWF 07-11-2004 05:47 PM

Its getting annoying when Johan Santana lets in two runs right away and is lights out the rest of the game, but the Twins can't put in even one run.

ct2k 07-11-2004 05:49 PM

Barry Zito was a victim of that today, he let in 2 (of 4) over 7 and the A's could only muster a run, he's 4-7 now :-\

BCWWF 07-11-2004 05:59 PM

I hope the Miz is the man and Zito is actually coming to the Twins, but that hasn't been discussed yet and the Twins are probably going to get Miguel Batista, and I have no problem in that!

ct2k 07-11-2004 06:01 PM

Win win really, Zito's gonna start winning eventually

BCWWF 07-11-2004 06:02 PM

BTW I've heard trade rumors for Andruw Jones. I wonder if the braves would do it.

BCWWF 07-12-2004 02:07 PM

I assume the only thing holding the Braves back from trying to dish Jones would be if it would mess up the team chemistry, because his hitting is no reason to keep him around.

With that said, I have to root for the Braves in this situation, because I can relate to their situation. Like the Braves, my track team had a great winning tradition, six straight True Team State Championships going into this year. This year we obviously weren't the best team in the state anymore, and it showed early in the season, but as the season went on everybody stepped it up and pulled it together because of the great tradition of our team, and we ended up getting 2nd place by 4 points, and if you know True Team scoring that is VERY close. That is exactly what the Braves guys are doing right now, they know they aren't the once dominant Braves, but they are no pushover, and the tradition in their organization is getting their players to play better than they normally would, and because of that I am rooting for them.

The Miz 07-14-2004 03:35 PM

He doesn't suck. If he sucked he would'nt have won 20 games and the Cy Young a couple years ago. Zito has eben getting off to rough starts, giving up 3-4 runs in the first couple innings and the A's haven't been able to come back. If you look at his ERA after the 3rd inning it's the numbers you would epect from Zito. As soon as he figures out how to get off to a good start he'll be fine.

Good to see Contreras pitching a great game against the Tigers, 4 decent starters and maybe Jon Lieber sorting himself out looks promising for the post season

ct2k 07-16-2004 02:07 PM

And how about them Twins going down to KC tut tut :p

Dragon 07-16-2004 03:07 PM

Kevin Brown played a minor league game though and only lasted two innings, I think he gave up like 6 runs. So he isn't really reliable.

BCWWF 07-16-2004 03:23 PM

The Twins will take the AL Central, the White Sox don't have the makeup of a team that can continue winning.

Yashamaga 07-16-2004 05:10 PM

how come?

They have a great offense that just got it's best player back and they have 3 great starters.

The Twins only have Santana (of the most underated pitchers in the league though) and an anemic offense.

ct2k 07-16-2004 05:30 PM

He's been on the DL for a while now though so he's bound to be rusty and there's a long way to go til the playoffs. He was 7-1 and went 6+ innings in 11 of his 13 starts, that's pretty reliable, especially with an offense like the Yanks' to back you up. If Mussina can get his era down a bit and Vazquez and Contreras carry on like they've been going this year that's a potentially great rotation.

ct2k 07-16-2004 05:32 PM

Agreed i definitely think it's White Sox all the way in the Central

BCWWF 07-16-2004 05:46 PM

Frank Thomas is pretty much out for the season, they have bad defense, and they don't have chemistry. Radke is terribly underrated aswell, he has a great ERA but no run support.

Its not going to be a run away either way, but I think the Twins will still take it in the final week because of experience and chemistry.

Shannon Stewart is now back, so now for the first time in months we have a solid 1-5 in the batting order. (Shannon, Guzman, Mauer, Lew, Hunter). Then add a fifth starter and bring back Mike Ryan, we will be right back in there. Joe Mays will be back in a month for long relief and Jesse Crain will come up when he is ok too. Once things flatten out we will be a lot better than we were in the first half, which is why I don't think Chicago will run away with it at all

ct2k 07-17-2004 11:04 AM

Barry Zito finally won again last night, only gave up 1 run over 7, the A's will have the best rotation going i reckon

BCWWF 07-17-2004 04:27 PM

The typical A's post All-Star Break run

The Miz 07-18-2004 02:46 PM

Why? They just lost the Big Hurt for 2 months. Ordonez, Konerko, and Everett is one of the best 3-4-5's in the league. I know you want to pretend like the Twins are better than the White Sox cuz theyre youre team and all but its pretty obvious the White Sox are the better team. The White Sox had been leading the Twins without their best player so why would anything change now? And I dunno about you but I'd take Loaiza/Buehrle/Garland/Garcia over Santana/Radke/Lohse/Silva any day.

BCWWF 07-19-2004 01:09 AM

Everett sucks, he is no better than Matthew LeCroy and LeCroy sucks. He missed most of the first half, but in that time he was hitting 250. He isn't the kind of guy who generates a lot of runs and he doesn't have the winning experience.

Yeah Ordonez was injured most of the first half, but so was Shannon Stewart and Joe Mauer. We haven't had a fifth starter all year, Terry Mulholland has been starting, in a few weeks we are guaranteed to have either Kris Benson or Miguel Batista because of our ample farm system.

Oh, no we just lost a series to the Royals...seasons over...Even though three of our starters didn't play and our DH is just coming back from the 60 day DL...That series meant absolutely nothing because we didn't lose any ground while playing our Triple A team.

What makes the Twins good is not having the best players, last year the White Sox had better players than the Twins, but they have absolutely no chemistry. Adding Everett is the last guy they need, he did shit for them last season and will do shit for them this season. They need to go out and get a Kenny Lofton or Ray Durham type guy back, so they have someone for Konerko to drive in.

You can think the White Sox are a great team. You can tell me that they have better players than the Twins and I would probably agree with you. When it comes down to chemistry and knowing how to win big games, the Twins have the advantage and that is why we will take the division again.
