Actually, the deal was Vizquel for Carlos Guillen and since Omar failed his physical today, the deal could be off.

Beat me to it

VonErich Lives 12-17-2003 09:57 AM

Ok, here's the latest Sox rumors.

A-rod for Many, there is talk there could be a pitcher added, because Texas is looking for value if the Sox aren't going to take part of Manny's contract.

Then, Nomar to Chicago White Sox for Ordonez.

There is talk Chicago would deal Nomar to the Dodgers for something, there is also talk Scott Williams and/or BH Kim would be delt to free some sox payroll.

So, the Sox get Ordonez and A-rod for Manny and Nomar and they spend the same money or less.....

Sign me up for season tickets!

VonErich Lives 12-17-2003 02:14 PM

LMAO, the MLBPA has rejected the contact that A-rod and the Red Sox agreed on.

They feel it lessons the value of the contract, because even though it's the same money, it's over more years and the MLBPA is saying that the same amount isn't worth the same over longer years.

Going to be interesting... not sure if the MLBPA can force a player not to take a move they want.

KingofOldSchool 12-17-2003 02:19 PM

I give up on baseball, it has degraded into an arms race between Boston and New York which is pure shit.

Sounds like they're done for acquiring pitching.

Batista, Halladay, Hentgen, Towers, and Lilly are what they'll have, with Chen and J. Miller as other starters.

However, apparently they may sign (or trade for????) Rich Aurillia, which would strengthen the SS position greatly.

Loose Cannon 12-17-2003 04:03 PM

Yankees finally aquired Sheffield. So now they have Lofton, Williams, Sheffield, Matsui as an outfield. Sounds good to me.

BCWWF 12-17-2003 04:04 PM

Redman is overrated. But then again as the #4 pitcher he is probably one of the best in the league.

Yeah exactly. Fk'n A's have the best 5 man staff in the league.

BCWWF 12-17-2003 04:08 PM

Remember last year when the Twins beat Zito, Mulder, and Hudson in three consecutive games? doesn't look like thats gonna happen anytime soon!

Loose Cannon 12-17-2003 04:12 PM

Yeah, I don't know how that happened. The A's played like it was the first three games of the season in that series. And then the Yankees did the same thing getting the sh** kicked out of them by the Angles. Sometimes things just don't work out I guess.

The A's could of beaten the Red Sox in the series this year if not for that jackoff Byrnes never touching homeplate and then Tejada stopping between home and third to argue a call. WTF WAS THAT..

Yashamaga 12-17-2003 04:36 PM

Mags and A-rod

More then the Sox and Yankees have high payrolls

But people like to hate on the good teams with high payrolls because their teams don't win shit :y:

TheJShow 12-17-2003 06:36 PM

Who did the A's trade for Redman??

Stupid Marlins "No, we won't do a firesale" yet get rid of a lot of their team :n:

MoRcHeEbA 12-17-2003 06:53 PM

pretty sure it's for a player to be named later... I thought Redman has never wanted to play for florida anyways since when he was with montreal cause he hates the owner or something.

No, it's because this is taking away all of the competition in baseball. If we see Boston vs. New York every god damn year in the post season, how entertaining is that? I enjoyed the past couple of years because most of the division races were so close, then players get big ass egos and demand more money than small market teams can produce.

They need to really tighten the salary cap.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 12-17-2003 06:56 PM

yea I guess

but im just saying, More then just the Sox and Yanks have a really high payroll...

Yashamaga 12-17-2003 07:08 PM

stupid deadline stupid rejecting contract

I think it'll still go through.

Florida is the worst organization ever.

The Outlaw 12-18-2003 01:16 AM

LOL Atlanta

JD "DL" Drew replaces Sheffield.

Furcal wanted them to go after Vlad, they are tight so to speak.

I swear to god if they get rid of Chipper Jones or Smoltz I will abandon baseball. :nono:

Bad Guy 12-18-2003 02:58 AM

Trade is postposed. Union doesn't think contract can be restructured.

BCWWF 12-18-2003 04:44 PM

Twins get shitty players to finalize shitty deals that were made in the past. Shitty single A guys, whats the point of "players to be named later" anyway? Are they ever good?

BTW, why did the Twins get rid of Todd Sears to get Jesse Orosco last season?

Yashamaga 12-18-2003 05:27 PM

Gammons says they didn't get it done by the deadline.

it could still happen though. this friggin this is so confusing

The Mets reportedly have made an offer to Vladimir Guerrero, and now may have more than just a puncher's chance to snag the coveted free agent.

The Mets offered Guerrero a three-year deal, according to several published reports. The deal is worth $30 million, and could be worth up to $40 million if Guerrero meets all the incentive clauses, according to Newsday.

The Orioles have a standing offer of five years and $65 million, which is below what Guerrero expected to get on the open market. Since Baltimore has not upped its offer recently, the door may be more than slightly ajar for the Mets, even though they cannot match the Orioles in terms of money or years.

According to The New York Times, Mets officials are "not very hopeful, but who knows?" Mets general manager Jim Duquette refused comment on Guerrero's status during a conference call on Thursday. The Mets did not intend to go after any "big ticket" free agents this winter, but their success in adding Kazuo Matsui and Mike Cameron may have changed their thinking on Guerrero.

A source familiar with Guerrero told Newsday on Thursday that he has grown reluctant to sign with Baltimore.

The Mets believe the lure of playing in New York -- and staying in the National League -- would appeal to Guerrero, but they are not willing to move beyond a three-year offer after getting burned by the Mo Vaughn trade before the 2002 season. Vaughn's career is currently in jeopardy, after announcing Thursday that he will miss the entire 2004 season due to severe knee problems.

Both the Mets and Orioles have expressed some concern about the back problems Guerrero suffered last season.

Guerrero missed close to two months last season because of a herniated disk but was terrific after returning, finishing the season with a .330 average, 25 home runs and 79 RBI for the Expos.

lmao... one of the NY Papers has "Asstro" over Clemens photo today.

Hey, when he left the Red Sox, he said he wanted to play closer to home...

So, it only took a decade, and brief stops in Toronto and NY, but he finally has what he wanted...

They were saying on the radio, part of Clemens deal is a 10yr personal service contract, which means when he doesn't want to pitch, he'll do apperances and stuff...

Think he's going to try and wear an Astros hat into the hall of fame?

which is what Nolan Ryan got when he signed with the Rangers...

Loose Cannon 01-22-2004 10:12 PM

The O's just lost a good pitcher to the Devil Rays. Damien Moss has left the up and coming O's for the basement dwelling Rays. Dam that really sucks for the O's.

MoRcHeEbA 01-23-2004 05:35 AM

So they Jays signed Halliday to a four year deal... He's no Schilling or Foulke but he should get a couple wins.

Adder 01-23-2004 11:14 AM

4 years 42 million?

I think that's what I heard on the radio.

He's only one of the best pitchers in the AL. Honestly. He's a lot better than most people give him credit for.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-26-2004 11:50 AM

Bluejays will end up 10 games out by the end of the season anyways

Yeah, but 2nd place is not bad though considering the Yanks are ahead of you.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-26-2004 12:06 PM

Bluejays will finish behind the Sox and Yankees...

Making they will be in 3rd

Loose Cannon 01-26-2004 12:09 PM

I don't know though, I'm more scared of the O's then the Jays. I know the O's don't have great pitching and losing Moss didn't help, but look what the Royals did last year with their pitching. The AL East is probably the best division right now.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-26-2004 12:24 PM

AL East is usually the best division. Red Sox and Yankees are usually better then the top 2 from any other division

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-26-2004 12:24 PM

cuz they got the $$$$$

Supreme Olajuwon 01-26-2004 08:54 PM

I hope Yankees fans think Miguel Cairo can be productive this year since he'll be getting a lot of playing time at third now that Aaron Boooooooooooone tore his ACL playing basketball

DaveWadding 01-26-2004 09:06 PM

LOL Boone just violated his contract. Way to go.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-26-2004 11:12 PM

Everybody does probably

Looks like they should call up Drew Henson.....oh wait hes going to the NFL

Boone that asshole

Loose Cannon 01-26-2004 11:17 PM

So I was watching Around the Horn on ESPN and they showed a story in the New York Times about how Steinbrenner might make a deal for A-Rod because of the loss of Aaron Boone. Jeter would move to third and A-Rod would play short. LOL this would really drive a stake right through Boston fan's hearts.

Nothing would shock me, but I doubt it.

Even still, NY is hurting for pitching and as they proved, it's pitching that wins, not hitting.

Nah, If BROWN doesn't get hurt, they will be ok. It was really their middle relief pitching that KILLED them last year in the Series. And remember Wells got injured in like the 2nd inning in one of those games and they brought in Weaver, who hadn't pitched in the longest time, and he got killed. But they beefed up their middle relief with Gordon and Quantrill to set up Rivera along with Contreras, so they'll be alright.

Time will tell.

Pedro and Brown are both injuries waiting to happen (although, no one seems to notice Pedro's been rather healthy the last few years).

Dunno, I'm just more sold on the sox staff then the Yanks...

which is a first, I'm a sox fan and have always seen the Yanks with a better staff. Plus the Sox have a better pen right now.

But I wouldn't be shocked to see both teams pull of some more deals in the next few weeks.
