And then, as KoOS said, Orton will face Angle at Mania. I think that is the route to go since Mania is usually the stage of first time ever matches, and I think Orton/Angle would make a great title match. The only confrontation between the two I believe was at Rumble 04 when Orton gave him an RKO.

I'm glad Angle won, and I don't want to be a party-pooper, but how come I'm so afraid that this could all be some swerve? I mean what if McMahon or Long come out and say Angle's not on the Smackdown roster so he can't be the Smackdown Champion and they take the belt away from him? Interesting. On wwe.com, on the smackdown roster page, they have Angle as champ. However, they don't have him on the full roster below, like the other champions. He is however, still on the Raw roster. hmmmmm

I'm not sure if I'd rather see Benoit win the Rumble and face Angle at WrestleMania, or Mysterio win the Rumble and face Angle at WrestleMania, Unfortunately, Triple H will win the Rumble and face Cena at WrestleMania.

But I am at least hoping for programs with Mysterio & Benoit in the near-future. I'm also predicting (unless Benoit faces Angle at WrestleMania) that Angle will hold the belt until Batista returns. Angle vs. Batista would be pretty damn good, plus it would be a great way to get the big gold belt back onto 'Tista. This could be a great year.

Outside of Orton Undertaker, and JBL, there's no real "fallback" guy. Orton needs to be built up a bit, and that leaves Undertaker and JBL. Benoit and Booker T could be up there, but it's about fan perception right now.

I suppose from a storyline point of view, Angle wanted to be champion, and he knew he'd never get a rematch with Cena, so he goes to SD where the WHC is up for grabs, and says it was easy for him because they are B rate talent.

Jericho was first to win the combined WCW and WWE titles (Undisputed champion in 2001)

What is now known as the WHC was brought in by Bischoff and given to Triple H when Lesnar signed exclusively to SD in 2002

I thought they renamed the WCW title the World title at the end of the Invasion.

And as for the WCW title, I remember Jericho winning it from The Rock on PPV.

I don't think this changes the main event plans for Wrestlemania as much as some of you would like. The most likely plan was that Batista would drop the belt to Randy Orton, while John Cena would drop the WWE title to Triple H. Batista got hurt, yet Orton is still gonna be called up, you just need a strong champion to make him look better when he wins. If you read the spoilers you will know that Orton was not in the Battle Royal. Angle is merely a placeholder for Randy Orton to defeat at Wrestlemania. Angle was actually the most logical choice to become WHC. Think about it, he's no longer in a major feud with anyone. Cena has become focused on Edge. Sure, HBK was suppossed to work a program with Angle this Monday, but this would only have become a vehicle to further the HBK/Vince program. Angle was simply the BEST choice of people not currently involved in a feud.

A Raw guy going to SD to win the title out of the blue. You're right, that is logical :wtf:

Yea, he still is the most logical choice. They can explain the continuity problems next week, or not at all it doesn't matter. If the plan is still for Orton to win the title at WM, you need a strong champion for him to beat, in order for him to look better. If they had given the title to Rey Mysterio(who Orton dominated in a match on SD!), or JBL(who is slowly) gaining credibility as a srong heel(instead of the cowardly type) then Orton would basically be beating a champion who has a lesser status than he. I don't even coutnt the Undertaker anymore because he barely works and an Undertaker/Randy Orton main event at Wrestlemania would NOT be a good idea. Beniot is currently in a feud with Booker T and I can see this one lasting until Wrestlemania or at least No Way Out with a final match between the two for the US Championship.

So if there is no one on SD! who is capable of shouldering the burden, they needed to look at Raw. Out of the top Raw guys, John Cena and Edge are feuding with each other, HBK is busy in a developing program with Vince, Kane and the Big Show are still tag champs, and HHH is simply waiting for Cena to beat Edge at the Rumble so he can main event with him at WM 22. The only man left was Angle.

By choosing Angle, you instantly have a credible champion, a strong champion who has been on a vicious streak since September. Angle is also the kind of champion that can loose to Orton at Wrestlemania, and come out looking great. Plus this allows SD! a little time to build up Rey Mysterio and Chris Beniot as face challengers for Orton. Also, if this triceps injury is about the same as his last one, then Batista should be back in 4-6 months. If he gets back in 4, he can do a small program with Henry to "avenge his injury" and if he gets back as late as 6 he can move right into a mainevent program with Orton at Summerslam.
