The crowd just completly kills the mood of the show. This taping before/after Smackdown isn't gonna work, ECW needs to be kept in small venues with ECW fans, not a big arena with 12 year old Cena fans

Just like any debut for a new show, the "pilot" needs to hook the audience and make them want to come back for more, keep watching. This show has not done that, at all.

I was hoping they would start to try to build some credibility for these unknown ECW guys. I guess they still might, but it looks like Show will clean house. Sandman was ok, but he beat THE ZOMBIE. Then there was that softcore porn - I assumed somebody was gonna come out and stop it, some new heel or something. Maybe CM Punk. But she couldn't even get her bra off, and it just ended. And Angle squashes Justin. If he had gotten a LITTLE offense in, it would have been much better, because the casual fan would see that these ECW guys weren't just hasbeen wannabe WWE guys. And these replays from ONS and from 20 minutes previous?

They should have had at least one good WRESTLING match. This isn't really differentiating itself from WWE. The first show should have had at least something really special to get people hooked.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by this show so far. It's been...okay, but they would have been much better off taping after SmackDown, so all the 12-year-old fans could leave the arena to the real fans. There are enough of them there, but they're getting drowned out by the girlish squeals of delight every time WWE comes on.

The battle royal was easily the highlight of the night. That felt a little more like ECW, although when ECW had clusterfucks like that, it was usually a tag match that degenerated into New Jack stapling people in the face. Nice twist on the Royal Rumble '92 finish with Sabu, Show, and Big Guido.

Oh, and the Zombie promo. Although, I would have marked out if he'd thrown in a "BRAAAAAAAAAAINS!" at the end of it.

I want to punch that kid behind Styles, wearing the Cena shirt, sticking his tongue out.

Huka Blues is one of my all-time favorite themes. It's one of those themes that absolutely perfectly fits the worker.

This show is not going to stop me from watching ECW, but I have to say I was pretty dissapointed overall. It came off as flat, and just another show produced by the WWE. I'm willing to wait out, as I feel it will get better, but I can't say this was a good start.

The Kelly thing was another thing that actually felt ECW. Reminded me of Kimona on top of the ECW Arena. Although, I thought that she was going to get laid out by Jazz or Trinity or someone.

It was sort of like WWE, since WWE tries to be softcore porn sometimes (see: "Wet & Wild" on Monday), but they try to make it pertain to wrestling, even if just a little bit. ECW was more, "Fuck it, you don't care if she can wrestle or act or have any redeeming qualities whatsoever, you just want to see her take her clothes off. So...here's titties!"

That wasn't ECW. That's what Jerry Lawler advertised. The King was right. Extremely Crappy Wrestling.

I've enjoyed episodes of WCW Worldwide more.

I didn't think the show was great, but it wasn't bad, I think it felt different enough from raw and smackdown to get people to tune in next week and so on...

all I can say is Fuck this new ECW....from the minute the show kicked off and the arena was shown I was already let down....

Wow, the show sucked. Waterd down, had a Velocity feel to it rather than ECW. The WWE writers and Vince need to keep their hands off and give it all to Heyman godamnit, or it won't work.

You are correct, actually. Often, Francine would roll around on the mat with a random woman, and Styles would scream "CATFIIIIIGHT!", like only he can, but that was about it in ECW.

I'm not pissed that Credible jobbed to Angle. I'm pretty hot at the fact that Angle squashed Credible.

After this mexicools vs london/kendrick feud, they need to send Crazy and Psicosis to ECW. And Kid Kash. And Nova.

They just need to get away from this "Sabu, Sandman, some WWE guys, and a bunch of jobbers" image people will probably have of it.

For one, I think it goes without saying that the zombies and the vampires are just fucking retarded. Since Heyman or the WWE can't really do much about it, I hope they turn it into an angle. Bring in another "Network" guy and have him say that they HAVE to have this or that on the show. At least that way they can write it off as an angle and not just leave it at "these things are real".

Secondly, was it REALLY necessary to show the ENTIRE Tazz/Lawler match, INCLUDING THE FUCKING ENTRANCES!? They only have one hour, and they show a throw away match in it's entirety?

Thirdly, the striptease shit was just retarded. I mean, I get WHY they did it (it's theorized that men will stop on whatever tits they pass on the boob tube), but the words "Diva's Search" kept going through my mind during the entire segment.

This show, with exception of Heyman's promos and one or two parts here and there, were clearly WWE scripted, and that is bad news for the brand.

On the other hand, was I the only one to catch (I didn't read the thread) that when Sandman cracked open his beer, that there was a young kid like RIGHT below him?

Good post. Yeah, I think the Sandman cracking open a beer with a young kid right below him was pretty much one of the main problems. No kids! Kids in the crowd drag an audience down. Especially with ECW. Remember on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD they kept saying how the crowd was such a huge part of the show, and it was. As a 12-13 year old kid when I started watching ECW, I noticed how great the crowd was. I then turn to Raw and thought, wow, this crowd is dead compared to that ECW crowd who got so involved with chants, and literally involved with handing weapons. Well, if you have a crappy crowd, that just pretty much takes the rug out from underneath the event.

That's another point I meant to make. This was CLEARLY a WWE crowd. THEY WERE BOOING VAN DAM. They seriously need to tape at the advertised house shows instead of doing this at SmackDown!, maybe a sixth of the crowd even knew that ECW existed before 2001.

True, alot of the kids, and marks remember ECW as the invaders in 2001. I have seen alot say, ECW sucks and I just want to say, you are only old enough to remember crap Invasion ECW in 2001, not what made it great. Alot of them were toddlers when ECW begun it's rise. Alot of them also didn't even get to watch cause it wasn't on TV or didn't get TNN in the latter years. They also don't like long matches with good wrestling. They would rather see Umaga squash a guy in a 2 minute match(2 minutes is stretching it.) Vince needs to make a decision. Cater to the marks, and have ECW be a 2nd rate show to hype Raw and WWE PPV'S, which will get cancelled very fast, or try to appeal to the old ECW crowd and do things the right way by the ways listed in this thread like the small arenas, good wrestling, and no WWE crap.

The show fucking sucked. I didn't need the internet or any "smark knowledge" to complain about a show sucking back in the day.

I hate the fact that both Angle and Show come over from WWE and they are suddenly big superstars for ECW...I would like it better if they had it so that they were sorta adjusting...like Angle would be trying to wrestle someone like Dreamer or Sandman....but instead of them wrestling Angle back they were just beating the shit out of him with weapons...

Dont get me wrong...I love a good wrestling match as much as the next person...weapons arent really my thing...but still...this is like one brand going into another...there should be some adjusting...

Angle didnt want to be in ECW back when it was on its own...having him go to it now just looks like crap...if Angle ends up being called the backbone of ECW...I am gonna stop watching it all together...

I definitely agree that Show and Angle should've had an "adjustment" phase. Hell, I wouldn't even have minded them winning, as long as they had to put up a real fight to do it.

First of all the venue is all wrong. The home crowd should not be booing your face champ, except when that home crowd is a bunch of wwe kiddie marks. Brilliant idea there. ECW should only be taped in ECW areas period. Anyone with a third grade education can see that. Apparently Vince can't.

Second Having WWE stars on the show taints any ECW storyline possible. remember when Jerry Lawler first showed up at ECW? It was huge and nearly caused a riot. Now its the norm for John cena and edge show up? Bullshit.

Third. The ECW roster needs to be bigger. 10 guys do not make a brand I'm sorry. I mean add guys like Matt Hardy, bring people up from OV and hire more ECW guys back, because the current roster is way to small.

For god sakes don't let former champs like credible get squashed. How the hell are we supposed to take him serious again if instead of coming out as a former impact player, he comes out as a former member of X-factor, remember them? Neither does half the wrestling fan base.

Unless things change and the ECW brand can govern itself, free of Vince's crappy influence, failure is eminent.

They want to build up Angle as a machine. As an medalist, and as a shooter. They are going to give him the unstoppable treatment for a bit. JC can easily say he didn't know what to expect, and he was expecting WWE Kurt Angle. Instead Kurt started shooting on him, and JC had no amatuer experience. Do some rematches, have JC adapt, learn, and actually start putting up fights against Angle.

Easy equation

Angle=unstoppable because of his different style
Other wrestlers learn and adapt to the style.
Other wrestlers can then compete with Angle.
Other wrestlers look better for it.
