I kind of like their uniforms. They are different, but I think that is cool in a way.

Our school got new Nike uniforms last year, one of which was white on white. I immediately didn't like it because it looked just like Texas, and we are in Texas' conference. We used to have white on black pants, which didn't look as flashy but it was kind of a cool look. The home uniforms were black on black, but for Nebraska they broke out gold pants. They looked sweet, and the school hasn't worn gold pants for about six or so years I think, but for some reason they refused to keep them. Most fans like them.

On the left is our basic uniforms, but they are Nike now and slightly different. On the right is the Nebraska game, which in my opinion looks a lot better. (The new black uniforms are basically the right picture but switch black and gold)

These are the other jerseys in question. The first one has kind of a weird look, but I like it a lot better than a full white uniform. Unless you are Texas, there is no character to that.

Now my last post might not look as random.

Michael Bush, Jamal Charles and Adrian Peterson

All early season contenders for the Heisman, kinda surprised to see Charles on that list but I guess so. I was thinking Peterson was going to be the early favorite but with Bomar getting kicked off the team it'll be more of the same for Peterson (9 guys in the box) It's too bad because he is the best running back in college. Now I'd think the early favorite will be Brady Quinn, I was all about ND and that pick earlier on but I dunno - when I heard they where moving senior runningbacks over to LB since they where so thin I am starting to second guess that.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-13-2006 02:17 AM

I dunno if it's a race thing or what but Darius Walker cannot get any love. Everyone's all about Quinn, Zbikowski, and Samardzija and everyone seems to forget how much of a sick little bastard D Walk is.

DrA 08-13-2006 02:21 AM

Jamaal Charles is a stud.

With the possibile exception of Xavier Carter, he may be the fastest athlete in the NCAA right now.

Joey Slugs 08-13-2006 02:49 AM

ESPN's New Rules for '06

Some funny shit there. For example:

Quote:

New Rule: Yes, Notre Dame is different. Get over it. If your school were important enough to get its own NBC contract and thumb its nose at conference affiliation, do you really think it would decline?

The Outlaw 08-13-2006 02:54 AM

OU will be fine with Thompson.

BCWWF 08-13-2006 02:55 AM

Nah, Charles is a product of a great team, there is nothing special there IMO. Quinn and Peterson have got to be the guys.

You're talking about a guy who had the nation's best 110 hurdles time coming out of high school and has posted several top times in both the 100 and 200 meters at Big 12 track events (his 100 meter times are better than even Ted Ginn's).

I stand by my remark that he is a stud.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-13-2006 12:52 PM

Every Heisman winner is a product of a great team.

Jason White

BCWWF 08-13-2006 02:18 PM

Stud athletically, he was in the NCAA track championships, but that doesn't mean he is an overly talented football player. His numbers were good last year, not Heisman like though, and I just don't think he compared with Cedric Benson or Ricky Williams, which is kind of what seems to be happening.

BCWWF 08-13-2006 02:19 PM

*Happening by the sports media, not anybody here

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-13-2006 02:26 PM

He destoried AJ Hawk though (during Hawk's INT runback last season)

He is a good running back but I didn't really think he was a heisman canidate especially since Texas has a couple of runningbacks playing at once (Well Taylor left the team after getting caught with a backpack full of weed so that'll open up some doors) Maybe he could end up as one, but I just can't see him being one of the "Preseason Favorites" for it that's all.

Charles runs over Nate Salley at like the 1 minute mark in this video as well -
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rm3OOTGoIR4

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-13-2006 02:28 PM

Here's the hit, maybe it wasn't big as I thought. Still pretty crazy how fast he runs though - http://youtube.com/watch?v=IlEsmN4vl...elated&search=

In the history of UT football 3 freshman have rushed for 100 yards in a game: Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, and Jamaal Charles. The record for most touchdowns scored by a freshman in a season is 13, which is shared by Cedric Benson and Jamaal Charles. Williams averaged 5.9 yards per carry his freshman year. Benson averaged 4.7. Charles averaged 7.4.

So basically what I'm saying is SHHHHHH

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-13-2006 04:00 PM

I think the thing that is hurting Charles is that he was not the only featured back in the UT offense, now you would say the same about USC with Bush and White but I dunno I think that combo was a bit different.

V. Young 115 carries 1,050 yards
Charles 119 carries 878 yards
Taylor 76 carries 513 yards
S. Young 96 carries 461 yards
Melton 87 carries 432 yards

So they definetly spread the rock when it comes to carries, take away Vince Young and Taylor and Charles could be looking at a lot more carries. Not saying he shouldn't be a canidate down the road but I was kinda surprised to see him as one of the preseason canidates by a pretty respected media outlet (CBSSportsLine) Personally I'd put Darius Walker (Almost 1,200 yards last season) in there instead, but like you said, Quinn is getting all the pub.

Charles's average rush yards per carry is pretty ridiculous though, I didn't realize it was so high. He is fast as shit and trucks guy (just watched that 4 minute video I posted) I honestly didn't realize he was THAT good until looking up some shit after this reading this thread, guess he just got overshadowed last year by Vince Young and the fact that UT used a bunch of RBs.

DrA 08-13-2006 06:12 PM

Yeah, I don't think Charles is going to be getting the Heisman, since I believe that Selvin Young is going to be the starter at first.

BCWWF 08-13-2006 09:29 PM

Ricky Williams and Cedrid Benson didn't play for the national champions either though. Just by watching him, I don't think he looks as talented as the other two.

DrA 08-14-2006 03:29 AM

He also played as a freshman last year.

BCWWF 08-14-2006 04:00 AM

Texas is just lucky that they don't have to face Mizzou again this year.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-14-2006 03:52 PM

You guys are downplaying the loss of Vince Young though, that is going to have an effect on the running game probably. I don't think defenses are gonna be too afraid of McCoy or Snead right out of the gate, so they are gonna have to prove to the D that they can get it done. That means the Texas RBs will be getting the Adrian Peterson treatment.

BCWWF 08-14-2006 04:42 PM

I can't remember, but it seems like Vince Young would have opperated out of the shotgun, right? If so, does Texas still do that with the new quarterback? If they do, and the quarterback can't run, the running back is fuckedddddddd.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-14-2006 04:52 PM

You don't need to be super fast to run the spread offense (Check out Alex Smith) The 2 QBs they got right have decent mobility from what I hear, they aren't Mike Vick back there but at the sametime they aren't Drew Bledsoe either

A lot of Young's runs weren't designed run plays anyway, so I dunno. I think the fact that Texas's leading returing passer is "N/A" is a problem no matter what formation you line up in.

BCWWF 08-14-2006 05:02 PM

No, but what I am saying is that for a running back, you are a fish in a bucket if your team is running a lot of plays out of the shot gun. From the shotgun, the receiver gets the ball with no momentum, making some big losses inevitable, and if you use it on the goal line you are just retarded. If you have a fast quarterback like Vince Young who can get out of the pocket and run 30 yards up the side, you don't put all of the pressure right down the middle, so it helps the running back too.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-14-2006 05:11 PM

Screen passes, play action, running back out of the backfield in the flats is a lot easier out of the shotgun. Which will help because the D will not be honoring the threat of pass at all. Plus it is not like its an NFL style Shotgun, the spread is different.

Another thing I don't even know if Texas will be using the same style of offense, I would think with less mobile QBs they'd modify their attack a bit but we'll see. Last year they didn't have a power running attack, you can tell by the huge average yards per carry that the tailbacks racked up, they use speed to get to the outside. Like somebody already noted Jamal Charles is Big 12 track champ...why would you try to run him between tackles? Either way if Texas is able to dictate their own offense and not let the defense do it for them they should be alright, if they have to start changing their style because the defense makes them, thats when they will be in trouble.

And I don't think they'll be running the shotgun while on the goalline, pretty sure every football team on the face of the earth has a "Goalline package" no matter what the style of offense is, Henry Melton will have no trouble in that role.

The Outlaw 08-14-2006 06:34 PM

Sneaddddd. He's going to be pretty good I think.

BCWWF 08-15-2006 03:13 AM

Lol, the reason I made the goal line comment is because Gary Pinkel absolutely refused to line up Brad Smith under center for Missouri. Even at the goalline, he would run the shot gun, and it was awful. After every game and media day we would question if he was willing to line him up under center and it was always the same answer.

Again, I can't remember, so I don't even know if Texas did opperate under a shot gun offense. If they do though, the running back is screwed on any handoff. Lining up under center, the running back has momentum when getting the handoff. In the shotgun, he grabs the ball as he starts moving, and there is little you can do to disguise it. Basically you have to get lucky or else run draw plays to have running back success there, IMO.

If you focus on screen passes and the other stuff, that works, but I am just saying that on a basic handoff or pitch, it is incredibly hard for a running back to get out when he is standing still when the ball is handed to him.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 03:52 PM

Well if you run a HB Dive out of the shotgun, yeah, its not gonna work. What is your point though? No teams do that. You do different run plays out of the shotgun then you do in the I formation. It is not like they are going to run a HB Toss or something either, since you do cannot do that out of every formation.

You can run out of the shotgun though, plenty of teams have proven that, its just a different style. Not saying Texas will be doing this because I'm not sure, but it is possible. Texas only used parts of the spread offense last season, so they weren't strictly a "spread team" like Texas Tech or Florida. So I'd assume they would be changing it up.

BCWWF 08-15-2006 06:20 PM

Well generally a shotgun offense is used to emphasize the pass or to open up the field for a mobile quarterback, rather than a strong running game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 07:06 PM

You can easily have a strong running game coming out of the spread, just not a power game. (Texas Tech's running back Henderson had 148 carries for 872 yards, 17 TDs)

You gotta be mobile to run the spread, yeah, but you don't need to be Vince Young. I am pretty sure the two guys replacing Young aren't stiffs in the Drew Bledsoe mold.

The Outlaw 08-16-2006 04:19 PM

Introducing Jevan Snead.

Finished with a 23-2 record as a starter so he knows how to win. He had 7,955 total yards and 100 TDs in 25 games over his final two seasons. Averaged 318.2 yards per game and four TDs during that stretch. Finished with the second-most passing yards in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl after throwing for 147 yards and two TDs. Threw for 3,546 yards and 38 TDs that year. He completed 230 of 370 passes and also rushed for 766 yards and 23 TDs. He averaged 308 total yards per game and led Stephenville to a 4A state semifinals appearance and a 13-1 record. Completed 16-of-32 passes for 272 yards and three TDs while rushing for another one in Stephenville's 41-38 loss in the state semifinals to eventual state champion Highland Park. He surpassed the 2,000-yard mark in the eighth game of 2005. Tallied 3,025 yards and 29 TDs passing, while rushing for 618 yards and 10 TDs. He completed 181-of-304 (59.5%) and led Stephenville to a 10-1 record that year. In his first start as a sophomore, went 8-for-8 for 205 yards and two TDs in the first half against Crowley.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-17-2006 01:17 AM

Ryan Perriloux:

Perrilloux had an incredible senior season, passing for 3,546 yards (225/342) and 30 touchdown passes and running for 1,460 yards (226 carries) and 37 touchdowns. He accounted for 69 total touchdowns and finished his career second in total yards behind Brock Berlin with 12,705 yards. As a junior, Perrilloux passed for 2,600 yards, 29 TDs and only five interceptions and ran for 1,274 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Not saying Snead isn't gonna be good but I wouldn't feel too good having a true freshman starting at QB.

The Outlaw 08-18-2006 01:59 AM

Oh no doubt. He's no Vince Young but he won't have to be. Put up decent numbers, run the offense, and get the ball to the playmakers is all he has to do.

Perrilloux won't see too much playing time IMO. Kid could be starting almost anywhere else but decided to ride the pine till his senior year. Again, all my opinion...

The Outlaw 08-18-2006 02:01 AM

Plus, he's a punk and a prick.

"LSU is the perfect school for me. I can come in and play next year. JaMarcus struggled last year, and Matt Flynn is definitely not a better quarterback than me. It's just a perfect opportunity."

Yeah, good prediction Ryan.

The Outlaw 08-18-2006 02:01 AM

That after saying he was still committed to the Horns. LOL, sad that I still remember this.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-18-2006 02:05 AM

I heard all 3 of them are still battling at LSU, I dunno how though seeing how Russell started last season.

And also if Snead is QB for Texas this season I can't see them doing as well as most are predicting them to be doing. He'll be real good in the future but I can't see him coming right out of the gate and playing good enough to win.

The Outlaw 08-18-2006 02:10 AM

Yeah he's battling that other guy for the starting job I think? Not sure. :o

Russell is sick. He'll start. They have the best depth at QB this year though, no doubt.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-18-2006 02:17 AM

McCoy or some shit, I'd think he'd start since he's a redshirt freshman but Snead came in a semester early (pretty sure he did anyway) so he might beat him out.

All I know is Edgerin James' cousin is playing at the U this year and rockin #5, what a sicko

6. Notre Dame

I'd definetly want to go a night game instead of a game day too, although either way it'd be pretty sick. I am definetly going to do it and go to one of these places once I graduate from college. BCWWF 09-01-2006 09:40 PM

After I posted that list, I said I forgot LSU. I am not a big Michigan fan either, but it would be cool to see a game in a stadium that big, itsn't it like 109,000?

As for Texas A&M, everything I have heard makes it sound amazing. Maybe it has dropped a bit since they aren't as good anymore, but they have some of the most hardcore fans out there.

As for Virginia Tech, I don't know much about them at all, but watching them on TV didn't give the same feeling as watching a Wisconsin-Michigan game or a Texas-Texas A&M type game. I'm just not a big fan of east coast football at all though.

That's not to say that they're not enthusiastic, I just wouldn't put them near the level of Ohio State.

Also, UA had 1 second left to kick it off. Under the new rules, once the kicker touches the ball, the clock starts.

So why didnt they just kick it out of bounds?

Nervous Ferret 09-03-2006 02:42 AM

game can't end on a penalty ?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-03-2006 02:47 AM

I think those new rules they put with the playclock/gameclock suck huge balls

RoXer 09-03-2006 02:58 AM

Also, is it normal for a kicker to kick from the other team's 40 and nail evry single one when he's warming up? Because he was splittin them during pregame. Wasn't practicing kickoffs, he was practicing FGs.

Played a AA team last night and kicked their ass, so I am not taking too much from it, but I think we could potentially start 5-0. We have a pretty easy non-conference scheudle and like I said all alone, Colorado is going to suck this year. They still have CSU, Arizona State and Georgia in non-conference, and then in Big 12 they platy @ Oklahoma, @ Nebraska, @ Missouri and a bunch more bad ones. I predict three wins.

The Miz 09-03-2006 02:54 PM

lol we almost lost to San Jose State

BCWWF 09-03-2006 03:09 PM

Isn't that the team that had a player with only one foot a few years ago?
