OMG THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST MOVIE EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
wtf did they do to Piccolo?
Thats Piccolo? I thought it was Garlic Jr. or something. AWFUL.
lol
I think he looks fine.
Why is he white?
Not sure if its been mentioned yet in here....
The first trailer for the film is set to show in front of Max Payne. |
http://www.thedragonballmovies.com/2...easer-trailer/
That link has the trailer..... Looks like complete shit but then again were we expecting anything different. Im still horribly looking forward to this and will definently be there on day 1. |
Mixed feelings... I haven't seen a poorly cut trailer for quite some time. Still, I'm there Day 1 as well.
Who was that bald guy with the six dots on his head
lol, was that Krillin?

Pretty hilarious
who would want to see this?
Apparently there is a new animated DBZ feature film on the way, which is way more exciting than this.

me also...
I know this is gonna be beyond bad.... But I will still be there the day its released to watch it no matter how bad it is. |
different strokes. It just looks beyond bad to me, but I never was interested in the show either so I can't really say
Well here is the Trailer.

Aren't you guys excited to see it now? No? Ok. |
Ahahahaha
The Piccolo voice is great.
That dude who plays Goku looks completely out of it/clueless in every shot.
In case anyone hasn't figured it out by the trailer The movie is now called...
Dragonball: Evolution |
Quote:
I'll agree with that much. Goku saying "I'm not ready for this." made me cringe, as it goes completely against what the character is about. Action doesn't look very dragonball-y so far. Should have taken a que from the final battle in Matrix: Revolutions. When I watched that fight all I was thinking was "This is what the dbz movie is gonna be like." Guess I was wrong. |
lol this movie is going to be a mess
James Marsters is going to be the only thing good about this movie.
:( |
*sigh* With all the time and money they've put into this danm thing, it would look 100 times better than it dose. Also you think they would've realised that by taking out more or less every danm thing any DB/Z/GT fan liked they've more or less, made a movie that would end up in the $1 Bin in Wal-Mart. I'm so disapointed with how this has turned out. Fox Fails again.
Looks like Street Fighter.
I wouldn't say it looks like street fighter, c'mon.
It reminds me of Forbidden Kingdom more than anything (which is ironic if anyone knows their DB history). I guess it looks fun, can't expect Dark Knight on every adaption. |
It could be better. Also, where is Goku's fucking tail?
Quote:
I agree with nixing the monkey thing. He can still be a Sayijin with a tail, it isn't that important written a certain way. |
I am sure they have made Piccolo more green since the original releases of his screenshots. Like people everywhere went "wtf is that a Romulan" and yeah. He looks way more green now, and I am happy about that.
Everything else, not so much. |

(It's def gonna suck though)

But we'll see it regardless, mostly because of Marsters.

It's times like this that I'm glad for RiffTrax.

Alternate Trailer (With J-Pop Theme):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QT8mRFwbCrg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QT8mRFwbCrg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> The J-Pop theme will be presented in all versions of the film (thank you). This trailer seems more Dragonball centric, almost like a response to the first teaser's showing. More chi-blasts, fighting, and the dragon, Shen-Long himself. I guess somebody's getting their wish. I really want this movie to do well enough for a 'Z' sequel. Super Sayijiins and Vegeta need to be onscreen. |

I want this movie to do well as well but I dont think it will. I think it will bomb horribly because people are gonna doubt it...or because it coud suck... but then again I have liked many movies that I thought was gonna suck so who knows.
I want this movie to make them never think about doing this ever again
I think Goku's hair is really ruining the professionalism of the piece. It looks so poorly done that it projects onto the rest of the film and makes the whole thing have a kind of "B" feel to it, you know?
But... that's his hair...
No, it's like a half assed attempt at his hair.
What attempt? They barely touched it because Gokou's hair is uniformly unkempt. This has been reported several times shortly after Justin was cast. At best they enhanced the sloppiness of it during shots to achieve a stylish look of... unkempt-ness if that makes sense. I've read and heard people's issues with the movie, and I have my own, but this hair thing is weak sauce.
Okay you realise the whole "it gives it a "B" feel" is straight out of Futurama and I'm not actually upset about his hair, right?
I'm not familiar with that line in Futurama, no.
Farnsworth: Let's recap what's happened so far. As you can see, I accidentally created a box containing your universe.
Farnsworth 1: While I, in a simultaineous blunder, created a box containing your universe. Leela: This is getting confusing. Why don't we call our universe "Universe A" and this universe "Universe B"? Bender 1: Hey, why can't we be universe A? Fry 1: Yeah! Amy 1: Yeah! Zoidberg 1: We want the best letter! Fry: We called it first. Besides, this place kinda feels like a "B", y'know? Leela 1: Alright, you can be crummy universe A. And we'll be universe 1! Fry 1: Or "The Mongooses," that's a cool team name. The Fighting Mongooses! |
I liked that episode.
One of my favourites of all time. Easily a 9.5/10.
My biggest problem with Goku isn'this hair. It's the line, "I'm not ready for this."
Yeah. But we can't have the cocky-ass "I can't wait to challenge you!" Gokou right out the box, can we? I'll let this character detail slide until the second movie.
Well he was the cocky-ass "I can't wait to challenge you!" character even when he was a little kid. That was the whole charm of the character. Because beyond that, there wasn't much to the character anyway. So imo, you really gotta keep that intact.
I see.
Quote:
Gohan on the other hand, well yeah... |
Yeah, this Goku is basically the kid from Forbidden Kingdom.
Wait a minute. |
Monkey King!
From the man himself:
Quote:
"This entire concept seems retarded to me. The people doing it don't realize how dumb this is, so I can't really blame them for it. Just pretend it's an alternate reality! Or not Dragonball at all! I'll be glad when this whole thing blows over!" - Akira Toriyama, paraphrased
Did you just make that up, or is that real?
If you're asking me, I was just taking the grin-and-bear-it-with-shifty-eyes tone out of the quote Crippler posted.
"i'm not ready for this"
just destroys the whole basis of dragonball goku has never pussied out of anything, and is the one all their friends depend on to be strong and happy through it all if goku had said that line during the anime... everyone would have just given up, they would have all died, and the anime would have ended. |
I guess the only good part is that this is so far from what dragonball is, that I can't even get offended as a fan.
And I think a live action movie is extremely far from dbz even if they tried to be faithful, as Toriyama's art style is what makes dragonball, dragonball. Anything else just feels like something else entirely. |
He's a generic young American highschool student forced into a situation he's unfamiliar with, a bit of a weirdo that the presumably nerdy audience of equally white young American highschool students can identify with by placing themselves in the shoes of, maybe even living out fantasies of escapism and acceptance by outside sources through him.
They decided to name him Goku for some reason |
Honestly, they could have kept goku's personality intact.
They could have done alot of things, up to and including not making this movie.
True and true. Rather not voice my thoughts on the matter, arguement's getting old.
This movie will suck hands down
Well at least her hair has a little blue in it.
I have a feeling this one is going to go right next to the Van Damme Street Fighter and Batman & Robin in my collection of wonderfully awful movies. |
I really dig her design, she could head her own feature if it wasn't Dragonball related. I'm thinking cyber-punk heroine with a taste for guns and gadgetry who leads a resistance faction against a fascist government. I'd call it, "Digital".
I cannot see that faggot yelling "Kamehameha!" and me buying it.
You can hear him saying it in the trailer and I think he sells it. In the Jap track it's a squeeky voice doing it so there's one improvement right there. I got used to Goku sounding like a school girl at times but let's just say I didn't mind the FUNimation tracks.

Yamcha's perfect. |
Sweet merciful christ that looks awful.
LOL
Amateur reviews are in. The general consensus is the movie is 'surprisingly watchable'. And these are fans, pretty sure 'professional critics' will tear it apart. Everybody says it's too short.
and I cant see them
Won't give a proper review until everybody seen it but I will say Goku is definitely a Sayijin.
How was James Marsters?
Cause thats all I care about.
Review Soon
I haven't got the chance to see this yet but I here Marsters and Chow were the only ones that made you feel they were the characters. I also remember Marsters saying he actually watchs the original Dragon Ball when he can.
Which is too bad because he doesn't get the screen time to really nail down his Piccolo. The last 10min should have been the whole movie's tone. It was the only time the movie got... grand. I'm not talking about the fight scenes either. The first hour and the last ten minutes are two different movies.
I admit it, I loved this movie.
Mainly because as a fan of the show since my late elementary school days, I was expecting a horrible, horrible abomination somewhere on the level of the Super Mario Brothers movie. I did not get that. I got a Dragonball film that is indeed surprisingly watchable, and while it won't win any major awards (nor should it), it wasn't the train wreck I imagined it would be. I only found a few things to nitpick that I remember, one of the big ones being that Piccolo can do a Kamehameha for some reason. That, and the fact that Yamcha never fought at all, to my recollection. Maybe a few things here or there bugged me, but not enough for me to personally send this movie to hell. |
Piccolo did one? When?
And yeah, no Wolf Fang Fist action. |
I may consider going to see this

I just saw this today and it's watchable. I came in with a "so bad, it's good" mentality and I left alright with the finished product. I still feel like Fox did this like they did with the original Fantastic Four movie when they first bought them. Just make a shitty movie with a quality franchise name and it will sell regardless.
Anyways, the movie. What worked: It moves nonstop, hardly a boring moment. You can follow the characters and care for them abit. The actors do their job, particularly Roshi and Goku, as they were the closest to the characters. It has its funny moments and if you forget it's a variation on the Dragonball story and watch it as just a wacky action movie, you'll be fine. What doesn't work: Where to begin? The writing, the timing and pacing (too short and way too fast). Yamcha... yeaaa, Piccolo not enough build-up. Sometimes it looked cheap and had some awkward moments and I just didn't get the whole epic feel the series gives. Hopefully, if there is a sequel, it will all be fixed up and we get a true DB movie. 5/10 |
They already wrote the sequel.
