It's a damn good series Kalyx. Have you seen Gurren Lagann yet?

Kalyx triaD 12-03-2010 11:44 AM

Yes. It's fuckin hype and epic.

Fignuts 12-04-2010 05:43 PM

Been reading Psyren. Pretty good stuff.

Fignuts 12-04-2010 05:58 PM

Ok, so what is the difference between Full Metal Alchemist anime and manga? Heard the anime isn't as good?

Should I just watch Brotherhood, since it's an actual manga adaptation.

I'd say watch Brotherhood first and then watch FMA later if you're up for it. The differences are quite noticeable. For example, Brotherhood has way more elemental alchemists than FMA does.

Vietnamese Crippler 12-04-2010 06:22 PM

Original Fullmetal Alchemist anime = really just uses the idea from the manga and tells its own tale. It stays true to the manga up until about episode 25.

Brotherhood = 99% recreation of the manga. Also, the ending to Brotherhood/manga is waaay more sappy than the original anime.

Fignuts 12-04-2010 06:25 PM

Which is better in your opinion?

Vietnamese Crippler 12-04-2010 06:53 PM

I think Brotherhood just barely squeezes pass the original, but I love them both.

Now on to Basilisk.

Could have sworn he was in more than one, but I think I'm confusing it with one of the other dozen things I've seen him in recently.

Doesn't hurt that production of FMA outstripped the manga.

FMA is good on its own. I haven't started Brotherhood yet, so I can't talk about that, but FMA is definitely worth it.

Ermaximus 12-04-2010 07:57 PM

Honestly Fignuts, watching both won't hurt. They're both pretty damned good.

So YouTube only has 18 eps. of Fullmetal...Brotherhood. Just when it was really separating from the old series, pulling me into the story. The 'Oroboros Gang' seems more villain-like this time. Greed's gang... :(

Is it wrong to consider Envy's design 'cute'? I hate myself.

You cry watching cartoons?

Hahahaha, I'm legitly laughing out loud.

Kalyx triaD 12-10-2010 06:55 AM

I read BDC's posts now, but I rarely reply due my conclusion that there's not much about him worth taking serious. I noticed you tread down a similar style of his but I let you slide because I like you and you have more substance per posts. But you're driving down that lane.

So I'm not gonna teach you the difference between cartoons and anime, or explain myself as to why I emotionally engage certain shows and movies, because I like you. I like you more than I want you to understand me or anime or whatever.

Just can the 'cool kids' act, it's unattractive.

Sixx 12-10-2010 07:01 AM

Ok, what exactly is the difference between cartoons and anime?

Way I see it not all cartoons are anime, but all anime are cartoons.

Kalyx triaD 12-10-2010 07:04 AM

And that's fine. It's really not worth explaining. I just rather you not do the "Cool kids are into this, geeks are into that" sort of deal. That's all really.

Sixx 12-10-2010 07:17 AM

Listen, I'm not trying to start an arguement with you or something and it's no "cool kids" act.

I honestly find it funny someone would cry watching cartoons. Then again I'm totally not into anime so it might be a thing of me not getting it.

Kalyx triaD 12-10-2010 07:19 AM

That's fine. We're cool here.

My Final Heaven 12-12-2010 01:00 PM

Was on a major anime binge not too long ago, I had a big stockpile of shows put away & pretty much watched them all in one shot. All Purpose Cultural Catgirl, couple volumes of Sgt. Frog, Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Bamboo Blade, Karin, Suzuka, Hell Girl, Trigun, Haruhi Suzumiya, Red Garden, and Azumanga Daioh for about the 5th time. I have Red Dwarf coming for Christmas so I'll be switching over to that come Dec. 25 XD.

Also watched all of the liveaction Sukeban Deka movies, including the porno :naughty:

Kane Knight 12-13-2010 12:49 AM

Soul Eater's equal parts awesome and retarded. The awesome carried me through, but jesus, there was a lot of dumb in it too.

Though hearing Excalibur say "Fool!" often cracked me up.

Kalyx triaD 12-13-2010 02:09 AM

Noted. Never watched it but I will samples its juices sometime.

Jimmy Cones 12-13-2010 10:27 AM

I didn't get into Soul Eater until the middle of the Maka vs Chrona fight. That's when I started liking it more.

Fignuts 01-16-2011 10:53 PM

Damn, Soul Eater is fucking tits.

My Final Heaven 01-16-2011 11:43 PM

Heard sooo much about Soul Eater, still havn't gotten around to watching it tho. :-\ Currently in the middle of Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne, thanks to the badass "65% off Anime on BluRay" sale Amazon is running.

Fignuts 01-17-2011 12:30 AM

It's just really absorbing, and turns the entire shounen genre on it's ear.

Also, Medusa might be my favorite anime villain ever.

My Final Heaven 01-17-2011 12:52 AM

will have to check it out once the price drops.

Fignuts 01-17-2011 01:25 AM

You could get netfix streaming for 8 bucks a month. It's on their watch instantly library.

Kalyx triaD 02-13-2011 11:18 PM

Sengoku Basara is amazing. Will have to watch the whole series.

So not going to lie here, High School of the Dead is pretty fucking amazing.

Fignuts 02-15-2011 04:25 PM

Just watched the ending of the Aizen arc in bleach. When I read it in the manga it seemed anti-climactic. Not so in the anime. Guess the animation and music added that extra touch it needed, because it really did feel like the epic ending it needed.

Though I still think Gin should have successfully killed aizen and become the big bad himself, since he had a stronger connection to ichigo. That was my one beef with aizen. As great a villain as he was, he didn't have that connection to ichigo like previous rivals like byakuya or ulquoirra had. In fact, it feels like they threw that "aizen's experiment" thing in there as a hasty way to establish more heat between them, but it just felt forced.

Vietnamese Crippler 02-16-2011 12:27 AM

I feel that it was MORE anti-climactic in animated form :-\

Dark-Slicer Diago 02-16-2011 09:46 AM

It would seem next week finishes of the Aizen arc completely, and then it's more filler. The first one is Kon as Karakuraizer and then the following week, someone takes over Soi Fong as Squad 2's Captain.

Fignuts 02-16-2011 03:30 PM

What? Soi Fong isn't dead. Why are they doing this?

She needs to heal obviously.

Fignuts 02-16-2011 05:01 PM

Nonsense. She barely noticed losing an arm in the fight.

Dark-Slicer Diago 02-16-2011 06:33 PM

Considering Yamamoto is still in the manga with only one arm, that's why I'm assuming it's a filler. Despite Yamamoto being immensely stronger.

BigDaddyCool 02-16-2011 06:48 PM

I'm watching something called Desert Punk...who is the intended audience, 13 year olds?

Fignuts 02-16-2011 08:08 PM

Yeah, I watched like one episode of that. Didn't care for it.

No.

McLegend 02-20-2011 01:18 AM

Interesting

Kalyx triaD 02-20-2011 01:33 AM

It speed runs the first half of the original anime then goes on as the manga dictates. I actually kinda like the first anime better so far (I'm only 16 or so eps in the new one). But I love FMA and any opportunity for new material is good for me.

Once you get past old ground you get used to everything. It blows past the first anime's episodes double speed. I counted. It stuffs two to three of the first anime's episodes into one or two. By the 20s you'll get new ground - if you didn't read the manga, I guess. I didn't so it's all new for me.

I didn't even notice they changed voice actors for Al in FMA and Brotherhood, guess I didn't really pay attention. After doing some reading, looks like they had no choice since the kid that did his voice hit puberty.

Only anime I can remember watching long enough that did voice changing was Dragon Ball Z and that was due to the long gap of time in getting the 2nd half of the series shown on tv.

I forgot if it was due to another studio taking over the series or the contract on the original voice actors had ended during the gap and it wasn't renewed.

It's also better paced and starts off better, IMO.

The only problem I have is trying to watch it so quickly after seeing the first.
