Probably gonna play private matches exclusively. Rather not have this game ruined by the 'Play to Win' cult. |
i didn't know that. def getting this just for facility.
Yeah there's 3 of them. And there's Goldeneye guns in there too.
I'm pretty sure this was addressed. |
The farsight is not going to be fun online. I already know it. Unless they put like a sensor or something to let you know you're being targeted. Otherwise it'll be just pure spawn-kills.
I'll play it before I pass judgement though. |
forgot about this. spent the points i had for it on the fable 2 dlc
It's probably not going to be out for a while yet so you're just as well spending the points on something else and buying the points for PD later.
It was supposed to be out around the last week of December 2009 but got delayed without a reason given. I'd assume they didn't want the game to be overshadowed by the bigger name games of the winter or online mode isn't completely ready yet.
it needs to hurry up
Some rumored release dates that were confirmed but then shot down but confirmed again only to be shot down again has it as either next week Wednesday or the first Wednesday in february.
I really hope that's true. |
I saw rumours for mid February. I'm hoping the next week thing is true.
I just bought Serious Sam HD because I thought PD would be another month or two coming. Could have waited, had I known PD was due so soon. |
Its going to be playable at X10 next week where we should get a release date.
I'ts probably going to be March before it's released, in that case. All next week Rare will be putting little bits of info on their Twitter. Can't imagin it'll be anything worthing noting.
goldeneye has just been confirmed

Perfect Dark XBLA Hands-on
An old classic gets an impressive makeover - as well as a handful of new surprises. by Martin Robinson LATEST IMAGES View all 13 images February 11, 2010 - Perfect Dark's a modern classic – that's without doubt, a fact backed up by the game grabbing third place in our run-down of the top 25 N64 games, the only titles pipping it being the superlative pairing of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. It's a classic that hasn't aged well however; coming during the N64's twilight years, it's ambition clearly outstripped the console's processing power, and even strapping on an expansion pack didn't make Perfect Dark any more generous with its frame rate. To see the game running at a searing 1080p that's matched by a near constant 60 frames per second (there's the occasional slowdown when the smoke effects come into play, but hey, it wouldn't be Perfect Dark if it run totally smoothly) is to see the game how it was intended, and it's a magnificent sight. Rare's eccentric vision, equal parts Bond, Philip K Dick and Mamoru Oshii, is served brilliantly, ensuring that despite its age it's still a handsome game. It's much more than a fresh lick of paint, as Perfect Dark's in-game models have also been bolstered to help them weather the move to HD. Character models that were originally 300 polygons now boast 3500, while guns have leapt from 150 polygons to nearer 2000. And underneath those good looks is a game that's remarkably faithful to the original template, even down to the inclusion of some of the quirkier bugs that made it into the N64 build; an oversight that allowed players to speed run the Chicago Streets level is present and correct, so those who know every inch of the code will find few surprises here. The move to dual sticks has also been handled well. In the name of fidelity to the original the right stick doesn't offer true analogue control, instead mimicking the camera button set-up of the N64. It means the snappy nature of Perfect Dark's movement is maintained, and to this day the speed of the action is something that sets it apart from the shooter crowd. Some slight concessions have been made – two controller set-ups are included called Spartan and Duty Calls. We'll let you fill in the gaps as to which one does what. Multiplayer's also been boosted, with all the game's original modes now playable with eight players online. All the split-screen options are also present and correct, available both online and off. It's more than a recipe for some nostalgic shooting – Perfect Dark's multiplayer is still so compelling that we wouldn't be surprised if it managed to oust some of the bigger guns at the top of Xbox LIVE's most played list. All of which is a grim reminder of what could have been for the ill-fated attempt to get Goldeneye on Xbox LIVE. Microsoft's Ken Lobb (a veteran who served on both of Rare's classic N64 shooters – and the more eagle-eyed of you might recognise an iconic gun that was named in his honour) tells us that Rare had Bond's finest hour in videogames up and running to the same level as the Xbox LIVE version of Perfect Dark, and it was only the labyrinth of licence holders that kept it from coming out. There's no need to mourn for too long though. Like the original Perfect Dark, Goldeneye's three best maps – Temple, Facility and Complex – are included, but this time out there's a special bonus; Goldeneye's weapon set is also being included, meaning that for all intents and purposes the game has finally made it to Microsoft's console. That's not the only surprise – there's also a few newly added cameos, as the Nintendo figures that propped up in the first game are replaced by some of Microsoft's finest. Man of the moment Peter Molyneux made an appearance in our brief playthrough, and he's one of many to be included. Which gives all the more reason to get excited for its release, which is drawing ever nearer. It's coming some time in March at the rather reasonable price of 800 Microsoft Points – so prepare to fall in love with Joanna Dark all over again. |
I can't believe I'm gonna use matchmaking in Perfect Dark 1.
Am I reading that right? They mean all the Goldeneye guns right? Not just the handful of 6 or so that were in the original?
Dual wielding RP90's meant game fucking over, in goldeneye.
It was the P90s in GoldenEye that made me a P90 mark. Used them in every game that had them since.

I miss the fraternity feel of four guys on one box versus another. The most prominent use was Halo 2 and 3.

If it gets DLC, I'm hoping/betting it will be Goldeneye maps. I'd love Frigate to be a map. Better yet if they could somehow get a copyright free version of the GE single player campaign by changing certain details. |
DLC's pushing it. Use this buzz to get motivated for a proper PD sequel.
I'm looking forward to this release more than I have for anything since Punch Out!!.
I cannot figure out how to improve the grammar in that sentence. |
Its fine because I completly understand and agree with you.
I remember this game kept some comprehensive personal stats, way before Bungie.net's stat tracking. Me and the guys would compare stats obsessively. I think we should only have player matches to retain the couch party feel.
Timesplitters had some pretty insane stat tracking as well. It sparked many an argument amongst my friends.
Perfect Dark and Timesplitters series had some of the best stat tracking and multiplayer modes for console FPS but I hated how Perfect Dark Zero didn't bother to keep any sort of stats unless you played online. Made tracking some of the achievements a bigger pain than it should be, especially the 1,000 kills and game modes.

this is good news

March 17th can't come soon enough. |
Agree.
I only bothered to buy it since the collector's version came in a nice metal case with a free comic book and other stuff for under $20 about 2 years ago. |
Yeah, I spent $15 on the Platinum Hits version. I could have got a handjob from a crack ho instead. :(
$15 dollars for a hand job? Wow, crack whores are pricey in your neck of the woods.
Everything is expensive in Edmonton, especially the crack hos.
The achievements have been updated with five being added.
SPOILER: show |
I'm going to be out of town 2 days before it releases and won't be back for a week.
 |
You could pack an N64 and the original PD if you have it. Take it with you.
Wait, Leaderboard Crowns? Do you have to get first on every leaderboard or just get above a specific score/time.
That could be a bitch to get |
I think MS has a rule against tying achievements to online leaderboards.
The leaderboard achievement might be something to do with the stars you got in Combat Simulator for having good accuracy or doing so many headshots and stuff. Maybe getting all of them. |
Fuck, hate leaderboard achievements. UFC 09 has one, and it's impossible to get now that the patch is out.
Is it just me or does Dr. Carrol have female eyes now?

More screens here. Too many and too big to post here.

It's like what? Another week. I can wait. Gonna need points on Tuesday, when I go to get the Dragon Age expansion.

Godddddd
IGN gives Perfect Dark XBLA version a 9.0 (original got a 9.8 on N64 even with all the complaining they say about the game today).
Mostly getting the 8.0-8.5 range from other gaming review websites. Main issues IGN encounters was random freezing during the game while and hated the voice acting but said the offline and online multiplayer modes are well done. |
I'm sure any freezing will be fixed with an update, eventually. Maybe it's just the 360 they used. I've had games freze on me that don't freeze on anyone elses 360.
Because it is a better game than all these health regenerating bullshit shooters we have now.
Ok, what? Perfect Dark had fairly decent voicework, as I recall. I last played the game 3 years ago, so it's not all ancient memories either.
The only voice work I didn't really like was Trent. That was mostly because it was so obvious he was voiced by the same guy as Carrington.
I DL'd the game and did the first couple of missions and had a few online matches. It's all good. My only minor problems are the manual aiming seems trickier/fiddlier than it used to, Trent and Jonathans new faces, apparantly being unable to mix a main characters head with any torso in Combat Simulator and the fact the game doesn't tell you what Leaderboard crowns are. The game shows you what the Avatar Awards and other XBLA unlockable are and it has these other icons in this ingame menu but it doesn't tell you what they actually are. The Avatar Awards are unlocked by SPOILER: show |
The only freezing I've had is when I unlocked the first Avatar Award, the game seized for a few seconds. But otherwise fine so far.
Manual aiming does seem a bit fiddly, but I seem to remember the original was always a little fiddly as well. |
from what i hear there is no party system so you can't play online with buddies. guess you gotta join through their profile.
Yeah, the aiming is like 80 times more sensitive than I remember. Had to turn that down since I kept over compensating and missing by a mile. Got 2 of the 3 awards, no Idea for that last on Drakul. Played some of this local. The blur effect from strikes are so much better now and holyshitnoslowdown. Win.
I've never actually completed the game before. I've gotten close but never actually finished it. I thought maybe there were bonus missions after the main game is over. I guess not if no one knows what "special assignments" are.
Rare said they wouldn't remove anything, only add to it but I've found something they did remove. Facial disfiguration. In the N64 game, you could kill someone and then launch a rocket at their face. When the smoke cleared, their face was all twisted and messed up. That doesn't happen in the XBLA version. It's a small, tiny, unimportant detail but it's still something they removed. Also, I got the Paci-fist achievement. It's not as hard as we thought it would be. Another thing, has anyone checked the leaderboards? Everyone's glitching to first place. Someone, yesterday, had done the first mission in seven seconds. It always bugs me when people screw up the leaderboards. |
what level did you do the paci fist on
The first mission.
They also removed Shigeru Miyamoto's head for obvious reasons.
Did they keep Matt Casamassina's head? (IGN N64 editor at the time and one of the main editors at IGN today)
probably, dunno what he looks like.
I'll get back to you.

I don't think the heads have as much veriaty as the N64 version did. Most of them have dark, short hair and have a slight smile where as the N64 version had heads with lots of different hair styles and expressions etc. BTW, I thought you couldn't change the heads of the main characters in the Combat Simulator but you can. For some reason you need to choose the head first and then hold down RB and select the body. |
Gotta love the Klobb becoming the Klo1313
People have found out what Leaderboard Crowns actually are. They are hard "achievements" type things. Someone on YouTube has put up a bunch of videos with them.
The first one: <object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/33_A5lXbAck&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/33_A5lXbAck&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object> Play the first level on Perfect Agent with auto aim turned off and kill 15 people. To see the rest, you can go to his youtube channel. |
The crown about using the Psychosis Gun on the magnum guard so he can get 5 kills is one of the hardest due to the guard usually gets killed off after the 1st 1-3 kills or at least it was in the N64 version.
What the fuuuuck at this matchmaking setup. This definitly kills a lot of the fun. Should be set up more like Rainbow.
Played with Roxy and Drakul (and some unnamed buddy of Drakul's). Good times.
Do any of you bastids use headsets? |
Mine was in for about 5 minutes then unplugged it. Didn't hear you.
Started 4vs4 humans against simulants but that was a horror show. With normal sims being 10 times hetter than us and the constant explosions, it was lag o riffic. Played a little more and I finally know how to tweak my limits so next time we'll be good. If I didn't quit that hacker game, we would have been there all day. So yeah, gunna add more sims. But this time they'lll all be on easy. |
Fuck me, those sims were crazy that first battle. I think the problem is that the hardware they draw their AI from is like 80000 times more powerful than the N64, so they're like that much better at processing ass whoopery. I got killed by a big group of sims, watched them book it as I died and respawned only to be killed by the same group as soon as I could move.
Yeah.
They were on normal. |
I know. In the N64 version normal sims were pussy bitches. Also, was your aiming sensitivity too high by default? Had to turn that down.
I'm thinking about fiddeling with it. Might turn autoaim off too. But I'll give the default settings a few more days.
I'm missing a gun for all 32 and I don't know which one it is. Not the phoenix, I just unlocked that.
It's either the gold magnum or the pshycosis gun but I can't figure out how to unlock them
Got it. It was the gold magnum
that is terrific news!
I have 32 guns and at least a bronze for each in the firing range yet I got no achievement. Does the psychosis gun count or something?
Some of the boards are saying it's glitched but mine popped up instantly. Pshycosis gun does not count. Recount them, make sure you have all 32. If you do, you'll have to wait for the update they're working on.
Whoever gets that "all challenges" achievement is a cheater. There is no way. Tried to beat some of the harder ones with G and Funky but we got our asses handed every time. Funky and I managed to just barely squeak out a win but there is no way we can get all of them everything has to go 100% right in order to even have a chance.
Like challenge 18. All you really need to do to avoid Elvis is find the cloaking device and laptop gun and make getting those your first priority instead of the hill. Then go for the hill, deploy the sentry, cloak, and you should have it. But it has to be done every single time. There's no way. |
Does the old "cheat"/glitch still work for the challanges on the XBLA version of Perfect Dark? I've been just playing the single player since getting it yesterday to see how much changed with the new controls and remake they did.
This is from the N64 version of Perfect Dark : Quote:
If you have a save file from Perfect Dark Zero, you automatically unlock 4 cheats in Perfect Dark XBLA (All Guns (Solo), Cloaking Device, Hurricane Fists, Weapon Stash Radar).
The N64 version got those cheats automatically if a transfer pack was used with the Game Boy Color version of the game. |

Probably Trent's gold magnum. Run up to him and disarm him in Crash Site.
Will do, chief.
