Excellance of Execution 04-25-2004 09:17 PM

Looks like the Curse of the Bambino is in affect already:

Red Sox look very good so far (as they do every first half of the year)

What happen's next you ask, well here goes for all you Red Sox fan's who seem to forget....

1. All Star break ends and the Sox begin to fall apart.
2. After they sneak into the playoffs, they either get knocked off in the first round or the Yanks end up beating them, or it has been known to happen, they lose in the World Series.
3. Red Sox fan's say "we'll win it next year".
4. Off season comes and they make some pretty good pickup's of some top of the line free-agent's.
5. Red Sox fan's say "this is our year".
6. Repeat step's 1-5, only change the year.

It's a different team this year... Not different as in "magic feeling". This team is built on pitching, all the previous teams were built on hitting, which is why they'd fall apart, slumps, injuries, and facing he Yankees who had better pitching.

Well, now, the Sox have the best staff in the league, will they still by the all-star break? probably.

Pedro is using a lot of off-speed stuff which will save his arm.

Tito is pulling Pedro and Schilling on pitch counts.

Sox have Trot and Nomar coming back, which is better then any trade the Yanks will pull off.

The top pitching free agents are on the Red Sox, so the Yanks wont get a Rent-A-Pitcher, or if they do, it won't be a top 10 pitcher.

That all being said, I'm a sox fan... I expect Schilling and Pedro to get in a fist fight, and they hit each other and break their hands.

Loose Cannon 04-25-2004 11:25 PM

Christ, I'm pretty pissed right now. I mean have the Yankees sucked this bad in a while cause I don't remeber. They better get themselves some pitchers because they won't amount to sh** this year is they don't. But Kevin Brown I'm sorry fir nagging on you in the off season because right now, YOU ARE THE SH**

Smitty 04-25-2004 11:35 PM

The D-Rays are ahead of the Yanks...that's great. Damn those Orioles, they are a decent club this year.

They do need a #4 and #5... But can you really blame the pitching the last 2 games?

I mean, a loss in the 12th and a loss 2-0.

They do need pitching, but it's the multi-million dollar hitting that ain't getting it done...

They'll come around, too much talent not to, but in a series, the pitching will hurt them.

VonErich Lives 05-02-2004 02:08 AM

So, Sox could have picked up 1/2 a game... and drop both instead, oh well... can't win'em all.

Now, that being said I must LMFAO that Pedro tells everyone talks are off and how he went as low as he could, w/o disrespecting himself and future players, etc... etc... and then goes out and pitches like crap.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-02-2004 02:10 AM

Yea Yankees will eventually come around but I am hoping the Sox are able to pull ahead enough before they turn it around to win the AL East also hopefully the Sox hit a big slump either

****in' Rangers  OH WELL THO.....back to back series sweeps before that..not too bad

VonErich Lives 05-02-2004 04:06 AM

I like'd Theo's response to Pedro, even better was Manny who offered to lend the sox 5million a year for 3 years to sign Pedro, as long as they pay it back later, figuring that he'll be playing longer then Pedro.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-02-2004 05:48 AM

Manny is the man

Not running out those pop ups though...hes a bum..even though he is an RBI Machine and blasts Homeruns like its his job

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-02-2004 05:49 AM

Pedro is Pedro...always doing stuff that the media makes a big deal about.

Pedro is on the decline though so I dont know what the Sox should do

The Manny we're seeing this year, is much different then the Manny we saw last year.

Dunno what the change is, but he's been much different.

The way he's playing, the way he's acting w/ fans and even the media.

I just hope he stays this way.

and another loss, see... said it was a long season...

WEEI started calling it "Curse of the Bratino" cause they were fine till Pedro started whining...

Watch BK will throw a gem tonight...

actually, for the most part, pitching has been good... we just haven't hit the ball...

so, w/ the losses to Texas and now Clevland... are those two this good or were the yanks that bad :p

Loose Cannon 05-05-2004 10:48 AM

Seriously, it's early May... they count, but does it really matter... I mean, as long as everyone stays healthy.

The sox are missing 2 key bats.

The Yanks will probably get Randy Johnson for the stretch run.

should be one wild September (trying to lock up my sox v. yanks tix now) :)

But again, it's too early.

Pen and Pitching look great, the bats will come around. Plus getting Trot and possible Nomie back at some point will be an upgrade.

There talking around here, if Nomie doesn't come back, who would pay him the money, that he'd go to.

The Dodgers is the assumption, he's from the West Coast and the new owner is from Boston.

Of course, there's also the talk of NY, have him play 2nd base.

Heck, if he's willing to play 2nd, he should do it here, Pokey is a better SS.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-28-2004 12:47 AM

A lot of "TALK" about Nomar leaving but I dont get it...he is from Cali but he has never once said he wants to go back to Cali to play baseball. I think he likes it in Boston and the only way he leaves if he is pushed out by mangement like Clemens or Vaughn

Sox got hammered tonight after wrecking the A's the 2 games before that. Rough day for Aroyo...I am still not sold on him...he has given up a lot of runs in the first one or two innings every single time he has pitched but usually he is able to speak out with a win but tonight giving up 9 runs in like 3 innings is pretty ridiculous

Pfff. Mariano struck out Bonds two years ago in the 9th. Of course, the Yanks lost on an error by Soriano, but that's not important.

The YEAR OF THE YANKEE FAN continues, as the Yankees set the all-time regular season attendance record at Dodger Stadium. The Boss must be happy.

Who else is in the AL Wildcard right now? I assume Anaheim and Texas only.

The Miz 07-21-2004 03:32 AM

Texas is in first place buddy. I think Oakland and Boston are neck and neck with Anaheim and Minnesota not far behind

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-21-2004 03:46 AM

I thought it was the Sox and Anaheim?

BCWWF 07-21-2004 03:56 AM

Holy shit, huge Yankees/Red Sox slugfest.

Varitek started it by taking a shot at A-Rod, and then all hell broke loose. Kapler almost got choked.

Dragon 07-24-2004 06:15 PM

Yeah, even though Varitek took the first shot and everything, Sturtze was an idiot. Running in and grabbing Kapler by the throat. The fact he's the starting pitcher makes it seem even stupider.

Every game between the Yanks and Sox are insane.

I watched it a few times by now...

A-rod, clearly says "FU" 3 times and tells Teck "Let's go" and motions w/ the hand...

You do that, you better expect to get hit.

A-rod should have just taken his base, Arojo wasn't throwing at him.

He was upset he got hit in the back? the back? talk to Piazza or family members of Tony C. then you can be upset about getting hit.

I think that it's obvious that arojo hit him on purpose. A-Rod won the first game for the Yanks, and with how bitter this rivalry is, it's obvious to me it was retaliation for that game-winning hit.

As for Varitek, if you going to get physical for any reason, be a man and take off your mask. If he's so tough, why wouldn't he drop the mask? Is he afraid he might get hit?

As for Sturze, i think he should have got tossed. I admire sticking up for your teammates, but what he did to Kapler was uncalled for. If your going to break up a fight, you don't pull someone by the neck in a chokehold.

Tonight's game on ESPN should me a good one.

Innovator 07-25-2004 01:58 PM

I would've been shitting myself if I was Sturze, having Ortiz standing over you about you nail you.

Varitek should have let A-Rod go, he was already walking down the base path. Protecting the pitcher my ass, the only thing Varitek was protecting was his face.

A-Rod earned those pinstripes today by getting into a Sox/Yankees brawl.

Teck was doing what every other catcher in the league would do, you always get between the batter and your pitcher, and A-rod didn't go right down to first, he was there mouthhing off to the pitcher and Teck said go take your base (not in those nice words).

The Outlaw 07-25-2004 02:50 PM

One problem with this picture. Varitek is still wearing his mask. That's a pussy tactic where I come from.

He dropped the mask right after that though and then they tied up.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-25-2004 03:30 PM

He stood right up and did that, then took of his mask

What do you want him to do throw the mask off right away?

The Miz 07-25-2004 04:10 PM

Who gives a shit if Varitek had his mask on? Put yourself in his shoes, if A-Rod says Fuck You 3 times and says Let's Go, what is your first reaction, to drop the mask or to knock the fucker out? I know what mine would be. A-Rod is a huge ass pussy anyway, I remember in like 1997 he got his ass kicked at the Kingdome by some 5'11" minor league pitcher hahaha

I hate the Sox but I like them much more than the Yankees. I just get pissed when Sox fans cry about the Yankees spending so much. The Sox spend more than every team except the Yankees and the Dodgers but still lose every season. Boston has more money than the Marlins, Angels, and Diamondbacks; the last 3 World Champions.

I'm a sox fan, and I agree 100%, the sox can't complain about money.

Now, the suposive "plan" is for the sox to trim payroll next season, the reason being if you go over 2yrs in a row, the luxury tax doubles.

But yeah, the sox don't lose because of lack of money...

Bad coaching would top my list.

YOUR Hero 07-25-2004 05:34 PM

Um, yeah. I do expect someone to drop their mask before throwing a punch. To do anything otherwise, no matter who you're fighting with is a pussy tactic.

Oh he took his mask off right after... Big fucking deal, he still took a freebie.

Pussy tactic.

As for the mask, no... in the heat of the moment, your not even thinking "oh wait, I have a mask on my face", no, your thinking, A-rod just said "FU" 3 times and waved his hand at me and said "let's go".

A-rod should have taken the base, weather it was on purpose or not, it wasn't at his head, or tried to jam him on the hand or inside arm.

LOL you gotta be kidding me. I don't care how old or non-threatening someone is, if they try to attack you you have to try and prevent it. Pedro did nothing out of line, he tried to move out of the way and hold back Zimmer and it's not Pedro's fault Zim's fat ass fell over.

The bottom line here is that this isn't really that big a rivalry, it's an ownership. The Yankees own the Redsox, end of story.

Heat of the moment my ass, when I played competitive hockey, we had to wear full shields for insurance purposes. However, if ever you got into it with someone, without thinking, the mask/helmet came off immediately.

Those that didn't were targeted for what seemed like forever, usually with no support from their teammates.

ok, do we really need to compare the # of fights and it being "part of the game" in hockey vs. Baseball?

Average team has maybe 1? 2? a year... if that...

The Miz 07-25-2004 08:04 PM

Baseball players aren't morons like hockey players, there are rarely any fights in baseball. No one in baseball is a big enough idiot to not support their teammate for something stupid like not taking off their mask.
