Yea, that vampire deck that Sorin has is bullshit. Took me a few tries to beat it with the white deck because the fucker kept hitting my creatures with gayass Terminate and Terror.

Diesel Mac, If you're trying to win online, I suggest using any deck but Relics of Doom. That deck takes too long to get going, much like the Teeth of the Predator deck.

Hasney, Ears of the Elves is badass!

Yea. I can't stand using either one tbh. I mean I'll give them credit, they are both well constructed decks, but for me those decks never work out well for me online against other people.

We're talking about the arcade game for the 360 here sir, not the actual TCG.

Yeah, but they're both fast decks. Teeth is designed to get out big creatures fast with land draw cards and the majority of the Artifacts in Relics are low cost, to take advantage of the draws howling mines gives you. Even if you can't get a Mine, you can stall the game until the heavy hitters or simply attack early and often with your cheapies. I'm not a fan of either, but they are fast. Though I do like the Relics deck a little.

For the record, there's an XBLA title coming out for Yu Gi Oh. The only reason I know this is that people on the Wizards and GF boards were bitching that YGO was gonna have full customisation, so why can't this?

not that I want full customisation. I like the "Magic For Dummies" element here where you can pick up and play. I'd like to be able to remove base cards from decks, but otherwise, it's fine.

Haven't played the TCG in years.

Also, I got to 300/300 GS because of pure chance. Four player game, one guy quits immediately. Playing the White deck, whatever it's called, and the other two are another white deck and the new landfall deck.

So white decides to attack me, and he has a better draw. Landfall slowly builds up his army, and suddenly quits. I've been sitting on a Wrath of God as a combo reset button and "screw you," when white also quits. I was almost certainly gonna lose, and I ended up getting the achievement for winning a 3 oe 4 player game instead.

 I love having a few Venerable Monks on the field or Angels, while the opponent has a shit ton of creatures in play, and then dropping a Wrath of God or the Mass Calcify. They get so pissed when you do it and then drop 3 or 4 Suntail Hawks and pump them all with Holy Strength. Good times.

I will agree with you on the customization bit though, but I'm sure they didn't include it because too many people would make ridiculously unbeatable decks and what have you. I just want some fucking Vampire Bats for the black deck! Low cost pump creatures with flying. Is that too much to ask?

Just started playing this a few days ago and really suck at it so far, I dunno if it's bad luck or just me being terrible but i've only just been able to beat the second campaign battle after about 10 attempts. So anyone got any advice for it?

Kane Knight 05-25-2010 02:02 PM

Second campaign battle period, or the second one in the expansion?

Second campaign battle period, bitch kept on finding a way around everything I had in my Green Deck. I do think it was more a bad luck situation because I was eventually able to win but it was quite annoying.

Kane Knight 05-25-2010 05:53 PM

It's probably bad luck then. Elspeth can be a right pain in the arse, but it's mostly down to card draw. Unfortunately, this game balances a retarded computer AI with amazing draws.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-26-2010 02:44 AM

Anyone else notice the AI got worse after the patch for Expansion Pack 2? I keep getting hit with 2 powered instants at the end of the CPU turn on creatures with a 4 defense. I think there's going to be a follow up attack before the turn ends, but then my turn starts and it's still fine and dandy.

 I've noticed this many times as well. A lot of the AI will attack, then play a land, and summon a monster at the end of the turn instead of at the start. At one point, Garith attacked with a Grizzly Bears, then played a forest, summoned a Wurm, and THEN played giant growth on his already tapped bears. Also, just to clarify, he did NOT have a Dragon's Tooth in play so I was just dumbfounded by his stupidity to waste a +3/+3 card on an already tapped monster.

Garruk will frequently regen his trolls when they're not in comat, or even giant growth them when they're not in combat. Even if he's attacking with ten other creatures and the troll is the only one, he'll sit there.

A lot of people complained that the AI cast everything before the "Attack" phase. Looks like they just made the AI do the opposite rather than making a smarter AI.

It's like they're punishing us for the fanback fans are giving.

So, Duels is out on PS3. And Expansion 3 is out on PS3 and PC, no date for the 360 has been released.

They're probably waiting for people with both 360 and PS3 to get impatient and buy the PS3 version just so they can get expansion pack 3. I was tempted but thought better of it. I can wait.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-30-2010 02:22 AM

Nah, bet it will be held up at Microsoft Certification, especially as the last 2 packs crashed the game.

Expansion 1 didn't crash the game. Technically, EX2 didn't either. Just the update.

Besides, the base game was broken enough.

The red deck is one of the easiest to win with out of the early decks.

Your problem...Is a lack of Justice! [/Ma Chao]

Or possibly a lack of bears.

Though you did hold your own against Heart of Worlds.

Yeah I got the new pack and the update and my Xbox froze. Then when I tried to play the game again all I got was a black screen. So I deleted the game and downloaded it again and it's working.

Kane Knight 12-29-2010 06:57 PM

You sure it's fixed? One of the flaws was it sometimes deleting your progress entirely.

Eklipse 12-30-2010 05:13 PM

So how do you get the "cards?"

Do you like d/l a booster and get 15 random ones or what?

D Mac 12-30-2010 05:19 PM

You have to unlock them in by winning matches in campaign.

D Mac 12-30-2010 05:19 PM

You get pre made decks to start with.

Eklipse 12-30-2010 05:23 PM

is this available via psn?
also, is there online play?

Tried to get into Marvel Overpower when I was younger, but it just never really interested me enough to stick with it.

Probably because no one else played. WAHEY

Kane Knight 12-31-2010 09:12 PM

Overpower had cool cards. Too bad the game was dumb.

Kane Knight 01-11-2011 01:08 PM

So I love how every time they release a new DLC, MTG gets new bugs.

I've had bonuses by cards "turn off" for me for no apparent reason. Also, I used one of the cards that causes an opponent to discard, only to have those cards inexplicably go to the top of the opponent's deck for no evident reason....

Better lawyout and shit though.

BigDaddyCool 01-11-2011 01:25 PM

Do you have to get a compatible do-magigger to play if you haven't bought the new dlc, I forget.

Kane Knight 01-11-2011 08:39 PM

Oh goody, it's also back to the "You've unlocked a new card for your deck...Haha PSYCH!" bullshit.

Unlocked one card for the new white deck, powered it off. Played this morning, three wins. Went back tonight, only had one card unlocked. Beat a game, it gave me the same card I'd unlocked before. :|

BigDaddyCool 01-11-2011 08:51 PM

lol, you get all the bugs.

Kane Knight 01-12-2011 12:53 AM

Nobody's paying attention, BDC.

D Mac 01-12-2011 01:04 AM

Magic Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is out for XBLA and PSN. I got it on PSN because it was discounted with Playstation Plus and I had some money in my "wallet".

It's basically the same as the last one but with new decks and a new campaign.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-15-2011 03:30 PM

Yeah, got it downloading on Steam right now. Would have already been playing it, but there was a cock up and pre-orders didn't unlock right away.

GAY.

D Mac 06-16-2011 01:01 AM

Yeah you still can't create your own decks from scratch. You can only swap out cards for the pre made ones like the last one. Now thats whats GAY

Kane Knight 06-16-2011 08:19 AM

No, liking Metallica is what's gay. :p

Seriously, though, I just don't like the "yearly iteration" deal. I put it in quotes because I know it's not really yearly at this point, but considering how new the old game is to PSN and Steam, I wouldn't be shocked if they had "DotP 2013" in the works already.

Regardless, there is little they could do that would merit a new game in this case over say, DLC.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-16-2011 08:26 AM

I like that this was a new game, lets a lot of new decks in while maintaining some balance. For £6.99 I can't complain at a full new game.

If it was actually yearly, that would be bullshit though.

If it's anything like the last game, there will be no balance. Even the basic set weren't balanced.

Ermaximus 06-16-2011 09:54 AM

Downloaded Magic 2012 yesterday, but I won't be playing it anytime soon.

Kane Knight 06-16-2011 10:41 AM

I should give it a shot. Of course, my Xbox and PS3 are still in storage until I can be arsed to snag them and my TV.

Ermaximus 06-16-2011 11:09 AM

It's all BDC's fault. Make him buy you a new tv.

Kane Knight 06-16-2011 11:51 AM

True. BDC, buy me a new TV.

Extreme Angle 06-24-2011 01:57 AM

Gonna get this for steam later probably, never played the game at all, just fancy an alternative card game...

Kane Knight 06-24-2011 09:52 AM

So it's basically the same game with a slicker interface and superficial changes. Not surprised. However, the decks from the demo still seem too similar to DotP to make me care much.

BDC can still even use his "eat my bears" catchphrase. With totally not grizzly bears.

I like the fact that it's much easier to unlock cards now. Instead of 1 card per match, you unlock all of the same card in a deck after 1 match. Much easier.

parkmania 06-27-2011 06:42 PM

It looks like you're stuck with the original cards like in the prior.

Ermaximus 06-28-2011 10:15 AM

Started playing the archenemy campaign last night and got to Tezzeret. Used Jace and the guy with the dragon deck as my partners and I used the vampire deck. Tezzeret didn't even stand a chance. Jace is by far the smartest AI partner I've had yet in this campaign, with the Merfolk bitch being the dumbest.

Kane Knight 06-29-2011 02:30 PM

Merfolk bitch.

Extreme Angle 06-29-2011 06:21 PM

I tried the demo, got slayed by Koth... The thing where, if he eliminates a creature then the troll gains a stone or w/e was really fucking me over.

RBM 06-30-2011 12:05 AM

You can take cards out of your deck in this one, but you of course can't go below 60 cards.

Pretty fun.

Ermaximus 07-01-2011 10:13 AM

Just found out that you can in fact invite 2 friends to help you play the archenemy campaign. So KK, if you need help beating it, or want to do it faster, you, BDC, and I can beat that campaign together. Much easier than doing it with 2 AI. I already have my white deck completed and I'm almost done with the vampire deck.

I thought of this when I broke down and bought it today. The game lists itself as a sequel to "last year's" title. Which, for 2/3 platforms, it is last year's title, even though it's like a 2 year old game now.

If they sell us 30 bucks worth of expansions and then hit us with a new one in another year or so, I'm going to kill Stainless, Wizards, and everybody in this thread not named BDC.

BDC will be left to tell the horrors of my wrath. And of male pattern baldness.

It's weird how 60 cards is now considered desirable. When I played the card game, only "noobs" played with 60 (or more) cards. Everyone was doing 40 card ecks, because having the absolute minimum upped the odds of you drawing your key cards.

So it's weird being stuck with a 60 card minimum in this game, though when you consider the last title allowed some decks to get to nearly 90 if you included the good cards....

parkmania 07-08-2011 06:38 PM

60 is the minimum, and always has been for constructed decks IRL. 40 is the minimum for sealed deck or draft play.

3 Jace decks in a game of archenemy can't lose.

The Jon Finkel story is pretty ridiculous. The girl clearly just wanted hits on her blog or whatever, but putting him down because he plays a card game is just sad.

Especially considering he's earned over 300,000 playing magic and way more playing poker professionally.

Man, is Duels buggy. Many game freezes, other stupid glitches and a big one where when you zoom in on a card, you can't zoom back out and thus can't really play anymore.

The Kiora Atua green/blue deck is pretty insane. Eldrazi and a kicked rite of replication on anything big (Primeval titan and basically put the rest of your lands into play? yes please)

The expansion will be adding a Liliana deck, an Ajani deck and one other one.

The Kiora deck adding mass polymorph is going to be hilarious.

Magic: The Gathering Online

I used to play M:TG a few years ago. (I'd say it's been atleast 5 years since I've been involved in playing)

I've been considering getting back into it, but instead of going cardboard, I would go with MTG: Online.

Does anyone else play this? Any tips? Reviews? Thanks :)

I got the newest Duels game on PS3 but I don't really play anymore. Guess I've "grown up" :(

You'll never grow up.

You're like Peter Pan with shitty musical tastes.

Oh shock. It's an annual deal now.

Ermaximus 05-24-2012 10:10 AM

Well yea, they're releasing it on XBLA, PSN, and Steam yearly to coincide with the new Core Set. At least this is a game worth buying yearly, unlike say Madden or Call of Duty.

""

Ermaximus 05-24-2012 11:29 AM

Glad you agree KK. It's a cheaper investment too.

If it was actually yearly, that would be bullshit though.
