Shia LaBeouf told The Associated Press that Transformers 3 "brings the heart back to the franchise." He starts working on the third installment on Tuesday.

The new script restores a human element that got lost in the second movie, LaBeouf said. "When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," LaBeouf said at the Cannes Film Festival. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone."

Michael Bay returns for the third time as director of the science-fiction franchise, which centers on dueling races of giant robots that bring their war to Earth. The next movie will have what the last one lacked - a sense of human consequences, LaBeouf said.

On the second movie, "we got lost. We tried to get bigger. It's what happens to sequels. It's like, how do you top the first one? You've got to go bigger," LaBeouf said. "Mike went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie. ... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

With "Transformers 3," the toll of the robot war will be grave for our planet, LaBeouf said.

"There's going to be a lot of death, human death. This time, they're targeting humans," LaBeouf said. "It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed."

Transformers 3 is coming to theaters on July 1, 2011.

If I know Bay's regimen, filming starts in two hours. Also, the new show Transformers: Prime returns Peter Cullen to TV as Optimus Prime. TF movie writers, Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci will act as showrunners, which leads me to believe this show will a) be awesome and b) canon. But an interesting tidbit is the shows Hasbro is launching around the TF CGI 'toon, which includes a My Little Pony reboot, a new GI Joe cartoon, a revived Fraggle Rock show, and Pound Puppies. For some of us this almost recreates an old Saturday morning block on the head. Hasbro's new kid's channel is even still cruising for some shows, so until it can produce new content it will air oldschool TF and GI Joe cartoons in what is sounding like the greatest channel ever.

Did You Know?:

They can't show TF toy commercials during a TF cartoon programming. This is a government regulation (one I'm sure I seen broken several times over... must be new).

Great to be a geek these days.

Silverbolt is remembered as the gentlemen to a fault Maximal from Beast Wars, who's cheesy, Captain Marvel-like heroics annoyed even his own teammates.

So to me it sounds like they are taking Skids and Mudflap out as the comic relief and instead putting Silverbolt in that role.

I want to see some fucking Dinobots damnit! It's the last movie, just go all out with it.

This makes me mad on so many levels. Most importantly the level of this is the transformers, let them fight it out, and get the human element the fuck out of the movie.

XCaliber 05-18-2010 11:28 AM

After seeing a bit of Cybertron in the first movie I was hoping a good part the third would take place there rather than Earth oh well I second the notion for Dinobots.

They did that in part 2. People didn't like it.

Kalyx triaD 05-19-2010 10:45 PM

Despite rather straight forward evidence, Megan Fox will not be returning in TF3.

Okay.

Fignuts 05-19-2010 11:30 PM

Given their emphasis on the human element again, you'd think that would call for some major script rewrites.

Kalyx triaD 05-19-2010 11:32 PM

They're hard at work adjusting the script for a new female lead, ad they're getting into casting ASAP.

Jeritron 05-19-2010 11:36 PM

There's a script?

Kalyx triaD 05-19-2010 11:40 PM

Yes. Had one ready for a while.

Jeritron 05-19-2010 11:45 PM

nevermind

Kalyx triaD 05-20-2010 04:13 AM

"Prince of Persia" star Gemma Arterton is the front-runner to replace Megan Fox in "Transformers 3," TheWrap has learned.

Shadow 05-20-2010 04:19 AM

And why did she get fired from TF3?

Never call Bay Hitler...even if he really is.

Fignuts 05-20-2010 04:24 AM

Didn't get fired. Was her decision. No reason why, as of yet.

Shadow 05-20-2010 02:07 PM

No...she was fired. Hardkore. Reason...being a total and compleat bitch and calling Bay Hitler.

Wonder who they'll get to play Shia's love interest now.

Jon Kano 05-20-2010 02:10 PM

She is hot as hell, but boy is she a shyt actress.

Miotch 05-20-2010 03:02 PM

Gemma Arterton? I mean, she's hot, and I liked her in the last Bond film and all, but to replace a woman who oozes sex, THIS is the front running choice?

http://www.pickmeupnews.com/wp-conte...ton-bikini.jpg

Kalyx triaD 05-20-2010 03:06 PM

Maybe they want an actress.

Miotch 05-20-2010 03:28 PM

Oh I get that she can't fucking act to save her life, but the role hardly called for it either. Her inability to act was no hindrance. Her being all hot was one of the best things about that first movie.

Kalyx triaD 05-20-2010 03:47 PM

Disagree but yeah.

Kalyx triaD 05-20-2010 03:56 PM

Frank Welker is also in Transformers: Prime, hopefully as Megatron but his part wasn't revealed. Fucking awesome - though all this G1 fanservice will mean nothing to whiny bitches who'll hate the show because it isn't exactly G1, and they're too lazy/overly entitled to merely watch the old show on DVD.

Jeritron 05-20-2010 04:57 PM

If they were looking for an actress they wouldn't be looking at other supermodels. They don't give a fuck about acting. It's about robot fights and product placement

Kalyx triaD 05-20-2010 10:25 PM

There's really more story to the movies than the usual (and 'safe') criticism aimed at the series. It's getting old.

Jeritron 05-21-2010 01:17 AM

Yea I'm playing it safe

Relatively new site GeekWeek broke the scoop last Friday, and Deadline seems to be confirming that Victoria's Secret model (and Jason Statham girlfriend) 23-year-old Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is the frontrunner to replace the departing Megan Fox in Michael Bay's Transformers 3. According to Deadline's Mike Fleming, Huntington-Whiteley was among the shortlist of three relatively new women to the movie business including Sarah Wright and Brooklyn Decker, the latter being a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who is appearing in Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston's 2011 romantic comedy Just Go WIth It.

Later in the day, their story was amended to say that Huntington-Whitely, who has absolutely no acting experience except for what she does on the runway during Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows, has gotten the role as long as things don't fall apart in negotiations.
Just caught this news tidbit and I figured I'd post it here. Good to see they're looking at skilled actresses for the part. And here I was playing it safe, thinking they were casting a body...

BDC, come off it dude. We get it, TF movie franchises don't do it for ya. OKAY! I enjoyed both movies, and I watch them on my HTC HD2 quite often! For Fucks Fucking Sake, let these guys make the great blockbuster movie that they're destined to make.

BigDaddyCool 05-27-2010 10:06 AM

Nevers! I will constantly bad mouth these movies for being awful bastardization of something I hold dear from my childhood.

Jeritron 05-27-2010 10:15 AM

Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, Jaws, The Dark Knight, and to a lesser extent movies like Iron Man are great blockbusters.

I don't know where this whole notion of a movie being a blockbuster meaning it doesn't have to be very good came from. It seems like lowered expectations, or flat out brainwashing. I can't count the times I hear the term "mindless fun" thrown around. True, it doesn't have to be profound, but it also doesn't mean it can't be a respectable film.
I think it's a bit of a lame excuse.

With that being said, I enjoyed the first. It was a fun movie, while not abandoning some semblance of focus on character and coherent story.

BigDaddyCool 05-27-2010 10:25 AM

I actaully feel the same about the new Karate Kid. "Duh, I know lets make a movie called Karate Kid only this time lets make it set in China, teach the kid kung fu cause that is a kind of karate, and lets get Jackie Chan and Will Smith's kid and hype the shit out of it. That will sell tickets!"

No, it is just lazy. What is next? A remake of Top Gun staring the kid from Twilight that is just a flimsy story barely connecting crazy dog fight to exploding the pentagon to crazy dog fight?

Jeritron 05-27-2010 10:35 AM

The biggest problem I had with the second movie wasn't even how bad it was, it was the reason why it was so bad. Let me explain.

The plot is all over the place. It takes dozens of turns, and it's written and directed so poorly that the narrative descends into a downward spiral of incoherence and nonsense. It's all over the place. On top of that there is so much crap going on, that it becomes an assault on the senses and none of it means anything.
But that's not even what's most troubling. If it were a case of them genuinely trying to tell a certain story they set out to tell, and getting lost along the way and running into those problems, I'd at least respect the effort. It'd be an artistic failure.
It's not though. It was written that way to work in as many different robot characters and action setpeices as possible. I don't know how anyone could even attempt to argue against that. The movie is a fucking mess because of poor priorities.

Yeah, but those aren't the rule. I see what you're saying, but it's usually several seasons between blockbuster franchises. Even if you're lucky enough to get a string of them (Star Wars, Raiders, most likely Batman), they're not the norm and it's likely to be a while before the next quality blockbuster comes out.

But, I mean, honestly, I got what I wanted out of Transformers. I understand Becker's gripe, and it's his right to bitch if he wants, but this was a movie where I expected "blockbuster" in a more pejorative sense, and still lined up to see it opening weekend. Transformers was rarely a deep franchise, and while this was probably a shallower experience than even the cartoon and such, it was still a fun experience. Mindless fun should never be an excuse to call a bad movie good, but it can certainly justify an enjoyable experience.

That being said, I dislike the idea of people with little or no love for a franchise being put in charge of it and then starts dicking around. Transformers is kind of a fringe example, but it is an example.

Still, I'm not watching Transformers for elaborate stories. I'm watching it to see giant robots wreck shit. One can enjoy movies that are mindless fun and still enjoy good plots and characterisation elsewhere.

nice post. i actually thought the first half of the first movie was watchable. then, a lot of what i like to (possibly mistakenly) call plotholes start to set in. plain stupidity is probably more accurate. for one thing, i remember thinking that the girl - she would have been dead. running underfoot of giant, killer robots like she's some fuckin' wide reciever. and then another particularly assinine scene that comes to mind was where the boy - the lead character - he was all disappointed and shit with the girl possibly having some sort of small-time criminal record - acting like he's not sure if he wansta fuck her now. i mean c'mon :nono:

P.S.

the Dark Knight was terrible.

Though Bay keeps his ''Transformers 3'' story line close to the vest, he did reveal the Chicago footage ''is at the very end of the movie and the city is under alien attack, so it's very critical and important to the film's climax.''

The scene shot Monday between Michigan and Wabash focused on ''a number of base jumpers who are part of Josh Duhamel's unit. The heroes in this movie have very few people coming to help them this time. I like to think of it as the 'Black Hawk Down' version of 'Transformers' -- it's much more intimate in terms of what's happening.

Yeah, I only saw each of them once but the second one was more entertaining than the first. The battles were just cooler.

On the carpet, Bay also briefly touched on two new alien bots set to debut in "Dark of the Moon." "Sentinel Prime is great. He's great," he said. "I can't tell you anything else, other than he's great."

And about the villain Shockwave, Bay say, "He's bad," adding that compared to Megatron, "He's got a much bigger gun [and is] a little bit more vicious."

Though Bay is certain he's got a winner on his hands, the director maintained that "Dark of the Moon" will be his final "Transformers" film. "It does have an end, yes," he said. "Because I am finished doing this."

Since I'm not a fan so I never followed Transformers as a kid but I always thought that Megatron was like *the main man* as far as villains go.

Interesting.

Thank goodness - I still hate this version. During hand-to-hand fight scenes you can't tell which bot is winning because they all look alike except the faces.

I can tell them apart. Easy as pie.

Secret's out... SENTINEL PRIME:

And LORD MEGATRON:

Of course the toys are less detailed renditions of their movie forms but they're usually accurate. Megatron hides evidence from Optimus Prime's face mutilation addiction and Sentinel Prime looks awesome!
