I think this might be the best movie news I've heard all year.

KIRA 06-10-2010 12:20 AM

This is real and Reptile looks fucking sick.

Ever seen Spawn? that's pretty much how he's always acted. He's got a very...solid style of acting I guess. Nothing fancy but it makes sense in the context of the character.

It turns out that our eyes weren't deceiving us yesterday, and Jeri Ryan really was playing Sonya Blade in that mysterious Mortal Kombat movie short. According to the former "Star Trek: Voyager" actress, the movie was part of a pitch that an unnamed director made for Warner Bros. to try and sell them on a film franchise relaunch.

"Okay, so... Mortal Kombat. It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film," Ryan wrote on her Twitter account. "I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was. And I'm not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful...! ;-)"

As an established face from the Trek universe, Ryan is no stranger to the vocal presence of large fan movements, and it looks like she wouldn't mind seeing the project get an extra push from the MK faithful who appreciated her work. Alas, without a confirmation from Warner Bros., we have no way of knowing whether or not they bit. But at least we'll always have this demo of what the movie could have looked like.

Anthony Wong is the name of the guy who played Ghost. The guy that played Scorpion in this movie pitch is Ian Anthony Dale from The Hangover and is also Kazuya in the Tekken movie.

ClockShot 06-10-2010 07:58 AM

Jeri Ryan goes from a season of Leverage to this? Ok.

Jura 06-10-2010 01:12 PM

I hope she gets the part.

Cooler Tom Schuler 06-10-2010 11:50 PM

I doubt she wants it.

D Mac 06-11-2010 06:04 AM

Then why would she appear in that video, smart guy.

Jeritron 06-11-2010 06:25 AM

Friend of the director? That sort of thing happens all the time, by the way.

The opening segment of Sin City was shot all on Robert Rodriguez's dime, and as a favor from Josh Hartnett who's his friend.
It was made to sell Frank Miller and the studio on the idea of making the movie.

Granted, Josh Hartnett ended up playing the part, but actors doing test footage as a favor to a friend or for shits and gigs isn't something new.

Reavant 06-11-2010 12:57 PM

she sounded pretty excited to do it when talking about it on her twitter.... JUST SAYEN

She needs to STFU, messes with TPWW theories.

El Tigre 06-12-2010 08:08 PM

Hope this all comes out well in the end; while a complete revision of one my favorite childhood fighting games series did initially put me off, this presentation along with the notion of starting "fresh" does intrigue me.

Also, on the subject of this trailer, did anyone else notice that the actor playing Johnny Cage in the past is the same martial artist who played Len in the short lived Fox series "Kamen Rider - DragonKnight?:

http://www.otakuusamagazine.com/Uplo...tion_20-fp.jpg

It's an interesting observation that was recently brought to my attention, so I thought I'd share it.

Jura 06-12-2010 10:49 PM

I think I saw him on a martial arts documentary several years ago on Discovery.

Rammsteinmad 06-15-2010 10:00 AM

I thought it was badass the way he had that one final toke before having his head cut off.

Snowden 08-29-2010 06:16 PM

Mortal Kombat: Rebirth

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CmvxjnwbMPI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CmvxjnwbMPI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

So evidently this was produced to sell Warner Brothers on the idea of a re-done MK movie. Thoughts?

IMO, it looks fucking sweet as hell.

So for those who don't already know, Kevin Tancharoen is producing this as 10 webisodes. He's taken to posting some pics from production on his Twitter.

Kano, I believe

Scorp, heading to a showdown with Subby, possibly?

Caption for this one is "Blue is not Kitana". So it's either Kitana, or not.

Get over here!

All looking pretty good so far.

Jeritron 03-04-2011 05:50 AM

So he's just funding this independently?

Hopefully it's as good as the trailer and gets on dvd.

Kalyx triaD 03-04-2011 05:55 AM

I think WB's backing him up. Looks interesting.

Blitz 03-04-2011 12:36 PM

Yeah it was commissioned by the studio. Supposed to be released alongside the new game.

Juan 03-04-2011 01:57 PM

All kinds of awesome

VSG 03-04-2011 02:12 PM

The actor may be portraying both Cyrax and whoever the fuck Hydro is.

Dark-Slicer Diago 03-04-2011 03:56 PM

With Kevin Tancharoen, his fellow writers for the series will be Spartacus: Blood and Sand writers Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing and rumored characters that are to be included from the Mortal Kombat franchise are Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kabal, Kitana, Mileena and Scorpion.

i dont think scorpion, shang and sub are really rumors considering they were in the first movie or mentioned

Cyrax doesn't suprise me. I've always seen him as a top character or close to it, just from my childhood awareness of the franchise.

No clue who Hydro is

Reavant 03-20-2011 04:55 PM

so where will this be able to be watched?

Blitz 03-20-2011 05:15 PM

It's gonna be a web series, I believe. Probably an official site will pop up for it at some point.

RP 03-21-2011 01:47 AM

Thought I heard it was starting in april

Blitz 04-07-2011 05:57 PM

First clip from the series, now known as Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Nothing much, just a bit of a brawl between Kano and Jax, but the choreography looks pretty good. Series begins April 12 on Machinima.com.

Inadequacy 04-07-2011 06:28 PM

I like the part where Kano grabs the gun and it looks like instead of shooting it he tries to smack Jax with it.

Reavant 04-07-2011 06:50 PM

he didnt intend to smack him with it he got rushed before he could point it at him

Guess they rethought the whole half-robot look from the trailer. I don't hate it.
