I've unlocked all the dark world rapture levels, and let me tell you. It's going to take a while. Even with the kid, those retractor beams or whatever, are a giant stinky whore.

PapaGeorgio 11-18-2010 12:15 PM

Tried working on getting The Kid, not going to do that anytime soon

Funky Fly 11-18-2010 05:09 PM

You guys and your talk of the Kid and all this stuff. You're gonna end up making me spend my free MSP on this.

Xero 11-18-2010 05:22 PM

Yeah, tried the first part of the Kid stage for like 5 minutes and just gave up lol.

It's worth it. Honestly, I'm pretty confident you would enjoy it.

PapaGeorgio 11-21-2010 03:35 AM

Got the Kid. Showed my one friend the level the other day. Mentioned to a different one today, so we showed it to him. Three of us took like 10 minute turns on first level. Played that for maybe 3 hours or so. They never landed once, I eventually completed it. We did same for 2nd level a bit, then they left as at that point were already together for like 15 hours that day. Beat it like 10 minutes after they left. Then level 3 was probably my least favorite, just annoying but thankfully didn't take as long as 1. Like should want to go to bed right now, but on such an adrenaline high from it all its ridiculous.

Boomer 11-21-2010 09:57 AM

I felt the same damn way. I was seriously so amped after that level, I just wanted to keep playing because I knew everything else would feel easier and I needed to cool off.

Also played this game for probably six or seven hours yesterday. I don't do that with games most of the time; I usually play in small sessions. I believe I'm at 90% completion. I've got 100 bandages (out of 101), and just the Dark The End and the majority of the Cotton Alley to play.

Boomer 11-22-2010 04:08 PM

101%. Victory is sweet. Don't even care about the glitch levels at this point...I'm done with SMB for the time being.

After using its game parodying powers to transform Super Mario Bros. and Cooking Mama into vegetarian-friendly fare, PETA sets its eyes on the indie scene with Super Tofu Boy. Is he really better in bed than Super Meat Boy?

Back in the day recording artists were sure they had made it big when Weird Al made a parody of one of their songs. I'm not saying Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes of Team Meat need validation; Super Meat Boy currently carries an average score of 90 over at Metacritic. Still, parody is a form of high praise, even if the PETA parody does completely emasculate their game's hero.

Super Tofu Boy features ten levels of puzzle platforming in the same vein as Super Meat Boy, only with a twist. In Super Tofu Boy, Bandage Girl leaves Meat Boy for Tofu Boy, and Meat Boy kidnaps her in response. Here's the game's description of Meat Boy:

Quote:

Meat Boy is a vengeful, bloody cube of rotting animal flesh. And he smells. After a short-lived fling with Bandage Girl (sympathy dates, really), he became enraged when he was dumped for the tasty and satisfying Tofu Boy. Once Bandage Girl slept with Tofu Boy and saw all that he had to offer, it was bye-bye beef, hello bean curd. Enraged by his loss and lack of ability to compete with the badass that is Tofu Boy, Meat Boy snapped and kidnapped Bandage Girl-because if he can't have her, no one will.
The game is rather short and littered with pro vegetarian and vegan propaganda such as "vegetarians make better lovers." It's also free, which might help some overlook said propaganda.

Source.

And Team Meat's comeback:

Tried playing the game, was not good at all. Wall jumps were rough, gave up on level 2 cause of the controls.

PapaGeorgio 12-02-2010 12:27 AM

Talking bout Super Tofu Boy. Super Meat Boy plays wonderfully.

Kane Knight 12-20-2010 06:07 PM

Super Meat Boy is one of the current Steam sales for like 3.75. Finally broke down and bought something on Steam. Well, two thingsa, as I now own Plants vs Zombies on PC Kinda sad, as I have it on Ecks Blah as well, but between the deal and the fun of taking it with me on my notebook....)

Boomer 12-21-2010 12:17 AM

Yeah I gifted a copy to my brother. Hope he likes it.

Xero 12-21-2010 01:51 AM

Merry Christmas, I spent $4 on you.

Cool. i just need a controller for my PC. My space bar's waaaay too sluggish for this game to ever work with a game like SMB.

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-21-2010 11:05 AM

SMB has the same initials as Super Mario Brothers heh.

Kane Knight 12-21-2010 11:49 AM

Really?

I reccomend just getting a wired 360 controller. It's cheap, and you already have a good feel for it.

And I applaud your decision in purchasing this game. Probably my favorite game to ever hit arcade. I am incredibly biased toward 2-d platformers though.

Just hope you like dying. A lot. I am up to 5000- deaths, and I'm pretty damn good at these types of games.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-22-2010 07:36 AM

I grabbed this:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.31880

For just over 10 bucks, you can't argue.

Fignuts 12-22-2010 08:03 AM

Never really got into the wired controller thing. Still have the one that came with my system, but all the rest are wired.

I do not sit 10 feet from the tv, nor do I leap around the room like spider monkey. And I keep the area pretty neat, so the wires never get tangled.

That said, hasney's link looks like the way to go, if you already own a wireless controller, which you likely do.

Have one. I hate it. I can't swap controllers from my PC to my 360 without activating the other. Lame.

So I spent ten dollars on a wired PC controller. Probably get a wired 360 controller like Fignuts suggested, but I just spent a ton of cash on presents for people and didn't want to spend another 40 bucks if I could get something cheaper.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-23-2010 07:51 AM

Ah right, I've got a pad linked to my PC and one for my 360 so only have to re-sync when people are over.

Kane Knight 12-23-2010 08:51 AM

I have friends over frequently. I wouldn't even give a crap if I could sync it up without powering on my 360 as a result.

It's a shame the 360 pads can't be plugged in like PS3 pads.

Wait...Will a Sexaccess/DS3 work with games like this?

#BROKEN Hasney 12-23-2010 09:01 AM

Ja

http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-p...ndows-7-vista/

Kane Knight 12-23-2010 09:09 AM

I meant specifically this game. Several of the games I picked up in Steam have specific mentions of the 360 controller, and since this one uses a diagram of one...

I guess I'll go dig out my controller and find out the easy way. I've hadf my PS3 controllers hooked to my PC, but never had any games to use them on....

Kane Knight 12-23-2010 09:12 AM

I probably wouldn't have even asked if I knew where my controllers were, but I don't play PS3 games often.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-23-2010 09:18 AM

Yeah, Update 4 allowed more customisable controls apparently.

Kane Knight 12-23-2010 09:31 AM

I noticed. Holy Crap, I can emulate a 360 controller.

This may be out of your pay grade, but do you know if there's an XP version? Only my laptop runs Vista.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-23-2010 09:57 AM

http://www.brighthub.com/video-games...les/16035.aspx

Apparently for XP as well on that link.

Kane Knight 12-23-2010 10:02 AM

Nevermind, I should read. :p

Kane Knight 12-24-2010 09:19 AM

I love that you get an achievement for unlocking Tofu Boy.

I changed the world!

also, the fact that the unlock code is petaphile.

They did a good job of digging at PETA after the STB "parody."

Funky Fly 12-25-2010 04:31 AM

This is on sale again for 800 msp in the holiday deal on xbla if anyone's interested. Probably gonna jump in.

Kane Knight 12-26-2010 05:55 AM

I'd totally do it if I didn't have it on Steam already.

Though the whole "you have to be connected to the internet" thing is kinda dumb. My notebook won't run Steam in offline mode.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-26-2010 07:17 AM

Really? If there's an Internet connection present it won't always work offline, but if you disconnect the net and then run Steam, it's usually fine.

I had my wifi disabled.

I'm not the only one to have this problem, looking at both the Steam forums and the web in general.

Fignuts 02-04-2011 02:14 AM

Yeah, that's about right.

Miotch 02-04-2011 03:35 PM

Super Meat Boy is the only game I've ever played that caused me to throw my controller across the room in disgust. It can be so infuriating, but I do love it.

Kane Knight 03-11-2011 09:58 PM

I don't mind the difficulty on this game, but the glitches piss me off. IT's one thing to lose due to timing, and another entirely to lose because you jump through a wall or fall through the floor. Or to have the jump button not work at all. I thought that one was my PC, but I'm maxing out at like 20% system resources used, so I doubt it. And what's got me right now is I went back to snag Ogmo, and his wall jumps keep jumping straight up regardless of controller direction (or neutrality). Not all the time, but when you have to make five tiered wall-to-double jumps in a row, and it's happening once in most of those five, that's pretty goddamned big.

Oddly enough, before this I spent like 20 minutes in a Dark World without even giving a shit about all my deaths. I play as Ogmo and get wall-jump fucked, and now I feel rather burned. Though I've discovered I can sometimes tripel jump....

Though there are several well-documented glitches, I do sort of expect some tard to pop in and be all "WTF are you talking about. This game is perfect!"

Xero 03-11-2011 10:08 PM

I've not encountered any glitches, really, except the jump button not working one in a thousand times. Also, just today, I paused the game and the timer wasn't moving. Not sure if it would have registered as 0, though.

Though I've found levels that I can beat in ways I shouldn't be able to (I assume). I beat a level with a 30 second time limit in like 2 seconds once.
