Who Makes Sense as Wrestlemania Guest Host
Since Vince McMahon’s announcement of a Wrestlemania guest host last night on Raw there has been much speculation about who Vinny Mac will introduce next week. I’ve scoured internet wrestling sites, forums, and social media outlets and compiled the most popular candidates. I then arranged them by how much sense it would make that WWE would use them to host the biggest show of the year.
No Sense: Justin Beiber Even though most of the WWE live audiences are made up of children these days, 18-34 year old males still make the most noise. They would boo relentlessly every time Justin Beiber appeared on the show. No matter how much WWE likes to promote its E (entertainment) there still has to be a level of toughness associated with the brand and using a teen idol like Beiber would compromise that toughness greatly. Little Sense: Randy Savage The ‘Macho Man’ has just recently appeared in some promos for the upcoming WWE All-Stars video game. These are the first WWE produced footage Savage has himself been a part of since he left the company in late 1994. A Savage return would make waves with certain WWE fans because he has been gone so long. Randy does have experience as a host with a run as a WWF announcer under his belt. However, with the rumors of Vince’s hatred of Macho, Savage’s deteriorated appearance, and lack of exposure to young fans, he remains a long shot to host the show. Some Sense: Aaron Rogers The images of Aaron Rodgers wearing the WWE’s World Title belts have lead to Vince McMahon extending an invitation to the Super Bowl XLV MVP to appear on their programming. Unlike celebrities like Justin Beiber, Aaron Rodgers has the tough guy image along with mainstream success that could be an effective addition to Wrestlemania. Since the belt has some sort of meaning to the Packers QB he must be a fan of the company on some level. (at least he knows they have belts) Therefore he might be open to an appearance, especially if the right deal was on the table. On the other hand, wrestling is still looked at by some publicists as being taboo which could keep ‘A-Rodge’ out of the ‘Mania picture. Good Sense: Shawn Michaels He’s Mr. Wrestlemania for God’s sake. It has already been announced that HBK will enter the WWE Hall of Fame the night before ‘Mania so he’ll be in town. Even though Michaels wants nothing to do with a full time WWE schedule, he did sign on to be an ambassador for the company and one or two more appearances might not sound so bad to the ‘Showstopper.’ There are two things that make me think he isn’t the most popular candidate. First, is his acceptance of his Slammy Award. During this video speech Shawn offered a few unenthusiastic words to the fans. (I hope he’s a little more jazzed for his HOF speech) Second is Michaels’ appearance on Raw to hype the Hall of Fame which came across as a favor he did for Vince inducting him. (HBK did not say a word and grimaced at the fans’ ‘one more match’ chants) This leads me to believe he is perfectly happy staying home with his family and making the ocassional media appearance on WWE’s behalf. Most Sense: The Rock The Rock has something that no other possible candidate has. Something to promote. (unless Beiber’s got an album dropping) Rocky stars in the upcoming film Fast Five that hits theaters about three weeks after Wrestlemania. It is no secret that a healthy portion of his personsal fan base are also wrestling fans. What better way to promote your movie to your most loyal supporters than to host their most popular show of the year. The Rock’s persona is the perfect balance mainstream popularity and wrestling credibility. Also, during the run of Raw guest stars, there were rumors that The Rock wanted to return, but his schedule wouldn’t allow it. It was said that the ‘People’s Champion’ wasn’t satisfied just hosting an episode of Raw. He wanted to do something a little more electrifying. Hosting Wrestlemania is his chance to do that something. |
Well - just a small thing, but the WWE facebook page wrote:

That is unless we see him coming in soon for his feud with either Taker or Sheamus for a WM match :) |
I bet its..
Vince McMahon |
The Rock

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Aurora Levesque yet.
|
The main page is passing about a rumour of it being Bob Barker, that would piss me off no end.
|
Bob Barker doesn't strike me as especially monumental.
Unless Jericho is coming back to finally face Bob Barker in a one on one match. |
That would be on par with TNA's level of underwhelming announcements.

the front page also said vince is the only one who really knows
Shawn Michaels is expected to take part in WrestleMania as a special enforcer/guest referee which would obviously rule him out as WrestleMania guest host. As I said earlier, I’m learning towards Bob Barker, The Rock or Steve Austin. The Rock has a movie coming out shortly and said in an interview not to long ago that he was “working on something special with WWE”. Could this be it? We shall see in a few hours. It should also be noted that Vince McMahon seems to be the only guy who knows who the surprise host is. The board backstage today at RAW once again says “McMahon Segment”. Also – Justin Bieber is not the guest host. He was rumored to be singing the national anthem which is extremely smart on WWE’s part despite what some want to believe. This will also draw a ton of media if it happens. Justin Bieber + WWE PG + tons of kids + media attention = very smart move. It’s that simple guys So fuck clark and his bullshit postings |
I haven't watched/ordered a PPV in 6 years, so if it is The Rock, I would definietly watch WrestleMania
If they can't get Sting, WrestleMania lacks that "please pay $60 to watch" factor, so if is The Rock, that settles it, for me personally. I hope it's The Rock. These days, he suits the hosting role, on-screen out of the ring_style. He doesn't need to go into feuds with guys. Hosting is perfect for him. As long as it's better than his SD XX appearance where he did his usual schtick. I hope he come up with some fresh material |
I don't see it being Bob Barker because that "never been done before" part of the speech, he did. He was a guest host, on RAW... but still. Secondly, I would hardly equate him to WrestleMania, or anything relating to it.
Steve Austin would be cool, but why pull out all these "surprises" considering they've been talking about him for the last three weeks, and Tough Enough is on the next night. So if he shows up, great, but he's not the host. I have to go with The Rock because if Vince wants to pump up this announcement, make a huge spectacle about it, you have no where to go except The Rock. Nothing else will live up to his hype than that. If its not The Rock than it will be a total let down. |

The Rock over Bob Barker for WM host all the way!
I don't get WWE's fixation on Bob Barker.
|
Hang on, did you just spoil the host announcement when there's a perfectly good RAW thread at the top of the page without including the word "Spoiler" in the title?
Enjoy the flame. |

Certainly millions (AND MILLIONS) times better than the last person who hosted a WrestleMania.

Are you happy you don't have to follow through now?
