Best: Shawn Michaels 1996 run
Worst: Sgt Slaughter in the early 90's. |
Best: Hogan in the 80s/early 90s. Him and Vince put wrestling on the map
Worst: Rey Mysterio. All love due to Rey, he was horrifically booked. |

It would seem to me that a transitional champ should be exempt from this since there was never any intention to make them look good. Backlund had a short run but he put Nash over like he was a god. Nash himself has even said as much. So Backlund wasn't a memorable champion, but he had a job to do and he did it excellently.
The worst champ to me would be someone they tried to book like a superhero but the guy totally dropped the ball. That would probably be the Ultimate Warrior. As for best, it's hard not to say Austin since they made the belt the focal point of the biggest feud in the company's history. |
best: Hogan
worst: Kane |
|
Oh come on, how the hell could Jericho possibly be the best? Sure he's awesome, but he was not the greatest champ ever, or even in the top 10.

Worst: Cena |
Best : Hulk Hogan
Worst: Stan Stasiak And Mr. Bob Backlund was fucking awesome. |
This is so tough.
I cannot pick best between Hogan and Hart. Austin and Rock were not about championships. That was just a piece of gold they flung around. Or I'd consider them as well. Poor wording maybe, but whatever. Worst? Sid? Maybe? |
I intend to work out who is officially "The Best/Worst" in each category we do, so I'm only counting solid answers. Just so you know.
|
It would be hard to pick someone as the best IC Champion of all the times but worst probably wouldn't be so difficult I don't think.

Fuck off bitch, just like the rest of your OCW accounts did.

Of the 40 gentlemen to be recognised as WWF/E Champion, 11 were nominated as the "Best Ever WWF/E Champion". But only one man can hold that title belt aloft in glory. And with 27% of the popular vote, that man is... http://i953.photobucket.com/albums/a...n_calapr99.jpg WORST 18 men were put forward for the dishonor of being labelled the "Worst Ever WWF/E Champion" and with 11.36% of the unpopular vote each we have a tie... http://i953.photobucket.com/albums/a.../JeffHardy.jpg http://i953.photobucket.com/albums/a..._Backlund3.jpg |
On a side note, 4 men were nominated as both Best and Worst WWF/E Champion of All-time (Cena, Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan & The Miz).
|
I'd say that Backlund's great run should be a tiebreaker in his favor, so Jeff should be the worst on his own.
|
Yeah I am a bit reluctant to classify Backlund in the same ilk as Jeff Hardy.
|
I didn't consider transitional champions in this. Despite the fact that "transitional champion" is a loosely-defined term, Bob Backlund was obviously one of them in his second reign. In his first reign he had some fantastic matches. I'm pretty sure he wrestled Harley Race to a 60 minute time limit draw a couple of times.
|
Hey, I just posting what the people voted. TPWW has lumped Bob Backlund in with Jeff Hardy.

The way I look at it is this. There are guys in the company in which I may not be a fan of, but I understand why the WWE would push them. I just don't get the push for Hardy. They've had problems with him in the past regarding his drug use (Fuck, look at him in TNA now). Sure the fans liked him, but why risk pushing a guy who most likely is going to fuck up again? At least Backlund did his job as a transitional champ and made Diesel like decent.
|
Like you said the guy was popular with the crowd and that equals money in Vince's pocket.
Don't forget that this very forum loved the idea of Jeff Hardy: World Champion at the time. It's only now that we've turned on him for being the fuck up he has always been. |
