I dunno.

Hideo Kojima teased the PS4 will be getting an exclusive special collector's edition.

Xbox One version confirmed to be in 720 resolution while the PS4 version is in 1080 although both run at 60 fps unlike the Xbox 360 and PS3 version (30 fps) for those that care.

I'll be getting the Xbox One version, for sure. Hideo says that the PS4 is the better console, but I'm not buying into his "fanboyism".

Konami has shared some more info in regards to the link between Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain. It looks like if you buy GZ "early on" you'll get DLC to use in Phantom Pain at launch, which grants you additional resources in your Mother Base to "give you an edge."

This limited offer applies to the first-run retail copies and for a limited time digitally. If you buy Ground Zeroes at any point, you'll get extra "prisoners of war and VIPs," which will be added to the Mother Base staff. Sounds an awful lot like "boost" DLC to me. Yuck.

There will also be a "second screen experience" involving an iDROID App for Ground Zeroes, which functions as Big Boss' in-game communicator and map. It'll available on Android, iOS, and Xbox Smart Glass, and it'll allow you to summon air support, play cassette tapes, or view the in-game map.

Finally, Konami has confirmed that the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Ground Zeroes will get retail discs, and they'll launch for $29.99 (the same as the digital price) -- inline with the 360 and PS3 retail pricing. You'll also be able to grab the game on PS3 and 360 digitally for $19.99.

Boost DLC in a single player game is not nearly as yuck.

dronepool 02-25-2014 09:38 PM

Really excited about GZ. Thinking of buying Ground Zeroes at Midnight, not sure if I feel like walking a mile to the hood to the closest Gamestop or going there in the afternoon.

Hanso Amore 02-26-2014 03:03 PM

HEY SPEND 50 DOLLARS FOR A 2 HOUR GAME AND LAUNCH DLC! WE ARENT MONEY WHORES!

/Konami

Hanso Amore 02-26-2014 03:04 PM

Althought it looks like they backed off the 50 dollar Retail disc for next gen.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2014 03:07 PM

MGSV is hella longer than two hours of playtime.

MGS4 was a good 6hrs completion time and double that for collecting/finding everything on a harder difficulty. It also had MGOnline.

Fignuts 02-26-2014 03:27 PM

This isn't MGS V.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2014 03:42 PM

Oh yeah.

Wait, GZ is $50?

Fignuts 02-26-2014 03:45 PM

Nah, $30.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2014 04:09 PM

I'd price it $25 at the most.

dronepool 02-26-2014 05:48 PM

It's $29.99 for physical on all systems and $19.99 digitally for PS3/360

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2014 11:44 PM

$20 digital? Nice.

All's good thing.

Hanso Amore 02-26-2014 11:45 PM

I read it was 39 for physical on next gen but they lowered it, not horrible at 30

Still it was confirmed gz wraps at 2 hours

Kalyx triaD 02-27-2014 02:24 AM

It'll take longer to 'do everything', though.

dronepool 03-01-2014 02:38 AM

Hey, remember paying 70 dollars for MK2 for SNES? I do. How long is that?

Honestly you can get about 5 hours or more gameplay out of this, counting an epic story with a brand new game engine, so it's totally worth 20, 30 or even 40 bucks if you like MGS.

Emperor Smeat 03-05-2014 05:06 PM

Destructoid recently had a few hands-on articles about the game.

Gameplay has been overhauled a lot and closer to modern action games than traditional MGS games.

Quote:

Snake primarily does his shooting in third-person, with the left trigger letting him aim more closely, in a fashion that should be familiar to us at this point. To switch into first-person, it's a matter of tapping the R1 button while aiming. The weapon selection and item management has been relegated to the D-pad. The health gauge is gone, and Snake will recover automatically as long as he stays out of harm’s way for a moment. Basically, the same regenerative health system you’ll find in most modern action games.
Quote:

Along with the health gauge and dual scrolling inventory slots, another thing absent from the HUD is anything resembling soliton radar or active sonar. Tracking guards now depends on tagging them, either by spying on them through binoculars, or by hovering the reticle on them long enough while in range. After doing this, a flag will appear above their heads. It’s very similar to the system in Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry 3. Once tagged, the exact position of enemies can be seen on the map, accessible from Snake’s iDroid device.
Snake also has a few new moves that feel more actiony than stealthy, the open world setting has a bunch of trade-offs, and no MGS type boss fights or moments in Ground Zeroes. Codec conversations happen during real-time and no longer stop the gameplay or are separate scenes.

Also turns out the trailer for Phantom Pain last year spoiled a lot about Ground Zero after their recent hands-on session.

Eurogamer confirmed the whole game can be beaten in roughly 10 minutes and even released a video doing such thing.

Destructoid broke down a few things the game contains along with the series tradition of lengthy cutscenes and tapes making up the bulk of the playthrough time.

Quote:

Ground Zeroes ships with one main story mission (named after the title), with a lengthy duo of intro and conclusion cutscenes. The average playthrough of this mission will take anywhere from one to two hours, and consists of two sole objectives that are very straightforward. That's it.
Quote:

With full leaderboard support, hardcore fans will go nuts over the chance to do everything better than their friends. This is anything from "longest sniper headshot" to "longest time spent on two wheels with a jeep," and Ground Zeroes basically tracks everything you can think of. The signature "grade" based ranking system is also still here, which rewards you for not using some of the new mechanics and completing a mission without being seen.
Quote:

There are only a few extra missions on offer outside of the story, including a VIP assassination level, a fetch quest, and the destruction of anti-aircraft guns. These all take place in the same sandbox as the main mission, albeit during different times of day.

For those interested in the PS4 (and PS3) version and like platinum trophies, the game doesn't contain them due to a Sony rule stating non-full price games can't have those types of trophies.
Quote:

The reason GZ doesn't have Platinum Trophy in PS4 is due to SONY's regulation. They won't allow us to have them for non-full price game.

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2014 06:05 PM

Getting this in an hour or so. Hyped.

dronepool 03-19-2014 02:47 AM

Despite being short, it's a great game. Wish the main mission had a 'boss' or something, but besides that I enjoyed this a lot.

Now I'm going to try and troll the shit out of the guards and finish the other missions.

Kalyx triaD 03-19-2014 03:00 AM

Got out of some tight spots because the mechanics are surprisingly flexible. The reflex thing is a cool effect.

Emperor Smeat 04-24-2014 05:43 PM

Japan-only so far but Konami states the previously platform exclusive DLC packs will be made available to everyone for free.

Quote:

Part of that is due to the Sony and Microsoft exclusive missions, which see classic Snake and Raiden sneaking around respectively.

Word is that both of them will be available next week in Japan for free, meaning Xbox or PlayStation owners can obtain the opposite DLC. No word on an international release so far, but we'll see soon enough.

Emperor Smeat 04-25-2014 05:05 PM

Konami announced today those exclusive missions will be available in all regions and not just for Japan next week.

Quote:

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes' platform-exclusive missions will be available worldwide as free updates for all applicable consoles on May 1, Konami announced today.

PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners can pick up the "Jamais-Vu" mission, previously only available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The add-on stars Raiden from his Revengeance days as he embarks on a mission within the Ground Zeroes containment camp.
