Sounds like a band name.

Crash Holly and The Hurricanes

Where do you think Crash and the Boys came from? :shifty:

Still could be.. I was at the rumble this year and he got a monster pop.. Not a fair adjective.. I can't think of a fair way to describe it but he got just a big a pop as Jericho and goldust and the rock (out popped the rock IMO)

XL 05-03-2013 01:58 AM

A nostalgia-fuelled Rumble pop =/= legitimate long-term heat.

LoDownM 05-03-2013 02:27 AM

I remember the Filthy Animals towards the end of WCW being pretty over. They were all midcarders back then.

But he had both. Godfather was crazy over for good chuck of time.

Vastardikai 05-03-2013 03:36 AM

He had the sing along down. Cause he be "Pimpin' hoes, Nationwide"

#1-norm-fan 05-03-2013 03:47 AM

"Light a fatty for this pimp daddy..."

Bad News Gertner 05-03-2013 03:47 AM

Santino. Guy could lose 100 matches in a row and be over.

#1-norm-fan 05-03-2013 04:11 AM

That's because Santino is amazing at whatever shitty role they give him.

#1-norm-fan 05-03-2013 04:11 AM

Kinda makes me wish they would give him a role where being over could work to the benefit of everyone including the company.

They had that opportunity with him in the chamber last year.. I'm a santino mark.. Never flustered on the mic, always sharp, witty, funny, and entertaining. Guy works a good match and can seemingly work with anyone.. Plus he is uber over.. I think it wouldn't have been the worst to put the heavyweight belt on him.. Maybe not pre-mania but deff after.. He had the right momentum.. As far as older era wrestlers being over, I haven't seen the name Norman smiley in here yet.. I remember loving him in wcw

XL 05-03-2013 01:35 PM

Wouldn't Santino fall into the "He's great but shouldn't be anywhere near the main event" category?

Indeed he was. Though I have a feeling that might have been largely to do with the fact he came to the ring with "hookers". Dunno how that would fly in the current landscape.

whiteyford 05-03-2013 01:38 PM

Little Spike Dudley, especially in ECW.

I don't think so. His current gimmick shouldn't be anywhere near the main event (not long-term at least). He's a clumsy, idiotic, lovable loser. But the man himself is ridiculously talented.

I mean... how different is this from the Santino character and how fucking awesome is it still??? The guy is money.

#1-norm-fan 05-03-2013 02:29 PM

I had the idea a while back for someone like William Regal to become an on-screen mentor to Santino and teach him how to actually fight. Then have him come back after months of training vignettes (Which would probably be comedy gold. I mean... Regal and Santino. COME ON.) and have him slowly actually be able to beat people's ass in the ring like in that video all while still being a massive idiot once the match is over.

You get to keep the goofy charm that makes people love him while actually having him contribute as a wrestler too.

whiteyford 05-03-2013 02:30 PM

Isn't he actually 'legit', Judo or something?

Lock Jaw 05-03-2013 02:36 PM

I like how Santino did the Russian in OVW, the Italian in WWE.... but he is actually a Canadian with no accent at all.

Lock Jaw 05-03-2013 02:37 PM

Heard a vid once of him out of character.... can't find it anymore.

Emperor Smeat 05-03-2013 02:51 PM

Yeup and I think also in amateur wrestling.

Only the second part

DaveBrawl 05-03-2013 04:49 PM

Definitely only the second part.

Brock Vs. Santino battle of the Kimuras.

#1-norm-fan 05-03-2013 05:09 PM

Book it

Rollermacka 05-03-2013 07:06 PM

Tito Santana is a name that comes to mind.

Flash Funk 05-03-2013 10:37 PM

Good point about damn near everyone during the Attitude era being over. The first name that came to mind was Scotty 2 Hotty

Such a good time for the sport.. Just think about the invasion.. People like ddp Eddie Benoit malenko and Kidman to name a few getting those massive pops when they debuted in the wwf.. The pop ddp and Eddie got were nothing short of spectacular.. Here is guys from the "competition" getting stone cold/ the rock like pops.. Insane

I don't remember any of that.

Heisenberg 05-04-2013 12:44 PM

The Steven Richards/Right To Censor gimmick was mad over. At least to me, the whole premise was fuckin' good.

In Rey's case no since he was booked like shit as World Champion both times he had the Big Gold Belt. They didn't even call it the World Heavweight Championship when he had the belt because he wasn't a heavyweight. Also he was WWE Champion for less than an hour.

I've never considered Rey as huge main eventer, just a legendary high mid carder.

I'm not an ECW expert, but I believe Mikey Whipwreck was, too.

Bad News Gertner 05-04-2013 03:21 PM

New Jack was VERY over in ECW

Shisen Kopf 05-04-2013 03:25 PM
