Some good/bad news from 343 Industries depending on your perspective regarding multiplayer maps.

Quote:

343 Industries will be in complete control of what maps get played in multiplayer.

Josh Holmes, Halo 5's executive producer, answered a question on Twitter regarding the game's map selection system. "No voting or veto, just straight rotation," Holmes said.

After years of seeing what the voting system yields in action - I have no problem with this.

REQ system was explained a bit recently. 343 Industries planning on having around 1,000 unique digital cards available at launch for the feature with more added over time.

Quote:

Halo 5: Guardians will use digital cards to dole out weapons, armors, vehicles, animations, boosts and other unlockable items in multiplayer. We've known as much. But in a blog post this week, 343 Industries spoke about this Requisition system (REQ for short) in greater detail.

By playing in Arena or Warzone, you'll accrue points that can be spent on card packs. These packs will also optionally be available for purchase using real-world money, with a portion of proceeds going toward the Halo World Championship prize pool. Cards vary in rarity, of course. Some are single-use, some are permanent. Only cosmetic items can be used in Arena multiplayer.

I'm not sure how making the disparity between hardcore and casual play will work out or them. Doesn't seem worth removing Big Team Battle. So many odd decisions with Halo 5.

Fignuts 09-19-2015 06:26 AM

What is this current obsession with card packs in games?

Kalyx triaD 09-19-2015 03:50 PM

I actually don't mind that compared to other modern trends. It just seems odd for Halo given the set-up they have for multiplayer. It works (and likely perfected) in Titanfall. It kinda ruined CoD. May or may not be good in Forza.

According to 343 Industries, Halo 5's Forge mode will be the largest in series history but unfortunately won't be ready in time for the game's launch. Will be a post-launch update arriving in December.

343 Industries gave some new details regarding the transaction system in the game and them constantly defending it ever since it was announced:
Quote:

"[T]here are three core REQ Packs available to players in the REQ Store...Bronze REQ Packs include Common, single use REQs, but is likely to unlock a new permanent REQ (if you haven’t already unlocked all of them)....Silver REQ Packs include Common to Rare REQs with the added value of two new permanent REQs (if you haven’t already unlocked all of them)....Gold REQ Packs contain a large number of REQs ranging from Uncommon to Legendary. Players are guaranteed two new permanent REQs (if you haven’t already unlocked all of them)...So, to obtain these packs with in-game currency will cost 1250RP (Bronze), 5000RP (Silver) and 10000RP (Gold). Remember, on average you’ll be earning roughly 2000RP per Warzone game played. Additionally, we also offer the option to purchase Silver and Gold packs at a cost of $1.99 and $2.99 (USD)."

Game itself requires around 60 GB of hard drive space in order to be playable. Wasn't specified if that includes the upcoming Forge or just a massive Day 1 patch is on its way as well.
Quote:

Microsoft's online store lists the file size at 46.19 GB, so the 60 GB figure on the package could be an estimate or be budgeting for an inevitable day-one patch. Either way, it's a hefty chunk of data.

Microsoft revealed those who play the game online before November 7th will get exclusive in-game armor as a free gift.

Quote:

Planning on picking up Halo 5: Guardians? If you do, and play online before November 7, 2015, you'll get the Teishen Raikou armour set for nowt.
Launch trailer was also released for the game:

According to Gamestop, there won't be a traditional midnight launch event for the game. Instead its going to be a digital event on the Xbox One marketplace.

Quote:

I recently asked a few GameStop employees and managers if midnight releases were still popular, and the common answer was "no." It's obvious that the chain (and many other retailers) has been ramping up its digital angle as of late, but even now, not as many people are showing up to brick and mortar stores to grab their games.

Microsoft is taking advantage of this, as it's running a midnight launch event online for Halo 5, the day before its October 27 launch. It'll be running a livestream for six hours before launch, which will feature media from the Halo universe, a roundtable with staff and Nathan Fillion, and other tidbits.
http://www.destructoid.com/halo-5-s-...y-316321.phtml

Day 1 patch was revealed to be 9GB in size. Main reason for the size is due to all the updates done to the game's multiplayer since it went into the "gold" phase. Overall space required is 55 GB (46 GB for the game itself).
Quote:

Multiplayer is the main cause for the patch. Holmes mentions that map content is in the update, presumably with other multiplayer substance. That's typically par for the course when it comes to triple-A titles with multiplayer component.

Heads up if any of you guys have pre-ordered and pre-loaded:

Quote:

SUPPORT: ISSUES LAUNCHING HALO 5: GUARDIANS

We know you’re excited to finally get your hands on Halo 5: Guardians on October 27, and we wanted to make sure you’re ready to jump in right away. If you’ve digitally pre-ordered Halo 5: Guardians on your Xbox One before September 21 and are NOT using Instant On power mode, you may still have an incorrect “stub file” for the title, which is simply a placeholder file. Players that have this particular version of the stub file will be required to delete it, and reinstall the title.

If you’ve pre-ordered on or after September 21, you should be ready to download the necessary updates as they become available. Once these updates have been installed, you’ll then be able to play Halo 5: Guardians. If you’re unsure if you’ve got this particular stub file, here’s how you can check:

- Go to My games & apps
- Sort your game collection by selecting Installed ŕ Sort by size
- If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is greater than 40 GB, you’ve got the correct version, and you’re ready to download the necessary updates when they become available.
- If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is less than 40 GB, you’ve got an incorrect stub file, and will need to delete that version and reinstall the game.

For information on reinstalling games on the Xbox One, head here: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-.../install-games

While we anticipate this affecting a small number of players, we want to ensure everyone is ready to play come launch day. For all updates on Halo 5: Guardians, stay tuned to Halo Waypoint and @Halo on Twitter. See you online, Spartans!

Amazing how many publishers of "Triple-A titles" these days manage to not have their shit together before launches of their most "epic" games.

drave 10-22-2015 09:04 AM

I'll take them discovering it pre-launch over day of or post-launch any day.

What they put on their devs is damaging.

Series director Frank O’Connor stated there is a very high chance Halo 5 could get a PC version within the near future. All the real work for a potential PC version is already done and would only need Microsoft's approval to get a port made.

Quote:

You know, Microsoft has made a huge commitment trying sort of… I think normalise the Windows experience across multiple platforms. You see the elements of Windows 10 are going to appear in Xbox and Cortana and stuff like that. There is plenty of chance that Halo 5 could appear on the PC. Nothing to announce at this point. It’s absolutely not out the bounds of reason, but you know, we developed the game on an Intel platform. It wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world to move it to PC and take advantage of PC stuff. But nothing I announce today on this chat.

Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition Deals

  • Best Buy — $249.99 ($200 w/ GamersClub) + $10 Rewards + DLC
  • Amazon — $249.99 ($229.99 w/ Prime) + DLC

DLC Bonus Per Retailer:
Not all deals are created equal. GameStop, for instance, does not have any bonuses besides a "unique" DLC bonus, while retailers like Walmart only offer bonus incentives and have no unique DLC. The best offers might be those that include both, but in case you're a big fan and want a specific set of unique DLC, here's the breakdown of who's offering what:
  • Amazon: Projection SMG with Long Barrel and the Saturnine Visor
  • Microsoft: Lagrange Assault Rifle Weapon Skin, Recon Assault Rifle with Energy Bayonet.
  • Best Buy: Athlon Armor and Longshot Assault Rifle
  • GameStop: Spartan Locke Armor Set

Update: To clarify, these are just DLCs that unlocks said weapon/armor skins above. They are as far as we know cosmetic in nature and won't change gameplay. You'll be able to unlock all the items above after launch.

Microsoft ended up squashing all rumors and hope of Halo 5 getting a PC port anytime soon. Might consider the idea "well into the future" if they ever consider a PC version to be made.

Emperor Smeat 11-02-2015 07:47 PM

At least for the UK, Halo 5's current launch estimates have it at around worst or second worst selling in series history. Doesn't count the spin-off Halo Wars for ranking purposes.

Estimates don't include digital sales while low sales of Xbox One combined with the bad reception from Master Chief Collection could have played a role in why.

Kalyx, you got this?

Kalyx triaD 11-13-2015 11:46 PM

Actually just today, yeah.

Extreme Angle 11-14-2015 12:11 PM

Sweet. I'm juggling work and a 5 month year old, but hopefully we can throw down some time :y:.

Latest update for the game is around 6 GB in size.

Quote:

With today's 6.2GB "Battle of Shadow and Light" update for Halo 5: Guardians, Big Team Battle is in. My old favorite!

The eight vs. eight multiplayer playlist supports Capture the Flag, Strongholds, and Slayer, and it's playable on four new maps: Basin, Deadlock, Guillotine, and Recurve.

Besides those additions and some tweaks to existing content, 343 is rolling out a bunch of new REQs. Not all of these items will be immediately available, but everything should be in the game within 24 hours.

Kalyx triaD 11-19-2015 01:55 AM

Need more BTB maps.

Recurve, the Longbow inspired BTB map, is fucking terrible.

Kalyx triaD 11-21-2015 10:20 PM

Just wanna advise you guys Silver Req packs will yield more cosmetics than the Gold packs, and more often obviously.

Extreme Angle 11-27-2015 04:11 PM

Yup, Little Baby Ramona is pretty cooool!

I'm really digging the Basin BTB map, it would be nice to see some previous Halo maps added but with design changes to accommodate the new mechanics.

Kalyx, your double ground pound video was sweet! Here's one of my plays i'm pretty proud of :P:

Tense. They should up flanking something, you had them on a goose chase.

Ruien 11-29-2015 08:33 PM

What in the fuck is going on? I seriously am unable to split screen this game? There is no local fucking co-op? Why the hell? So upset right now. Wish I could return this fucking game. Was Halo 4 like this? I hope Halo lost a shit ton of money to this feature but most people probably bought the fucking game assuming it was there like I did.

Ruien 11-29-2015 08:33 PM

We tried to stream the shit and play it too but that seems to have failed.

Got taken out for this game due to 343 Industries and Microsoft claiming they didn't want framerate issues and not willing to downgrade the graphics to make it work.

Same reason there is no local multiplayer either.

Ruien 11-29-2015 09:11 PM

Is it possible they can change their minds and patch it in? Or is this just how it is? Should have bought a PS4.

Emperor Smeat 11-29-2015 09:27 PM

Think they already mentioned its not possible or they wouldn't but the backlash was big enough that they probably won't try to pull that again with Halo 6.

Ruien 11-29-2015 10:32 PM

Sigh......... That is stupid. Thanks.

Kalyx triaD 11-30-2015 03:39 AM

Have you been reading the thread? lol

Ruien 11-30-2015 03:24 PM

Nope. Really did not think I needed to do that when the main feature I care about seems as basic as it gets.

Kalyx triaD 11-30-2015 05:56 PM

That's why it was a big deal. And I understand that the media were dragging their feet about it, most making articles after launch.

It was a big deal to the Halo community and one of the reasons I stress that developers need to focus on gameplay experience again.

Ruien 11-30-2015 07:05 PM

Ya. It came as a huge shock. Technically, it was my fault for not researching the game though.
