Mankind right around the time of his big face turn (the "car crashing" music), white shirt and tie and Mankind mask... first fav

SlickyTrickyDamon 09-04-2014 11:27 PM

How old are you Dogg? That's like 1998/1999.

road doggy dogg 09-04-2014 11:37 PM

Is it inconceivable that I started watching wrestling in 1998/1999?

road doggy dogg 09-04-2014 11:38 PM

I mean, that's like 15 years ago. I was 14 at the time

It's not the norm no.

road doggy dogg 09-04-2014 11:44 PM

Attitude Era widely regarded as "most successful era of pro wrestling"

but nah, nobody started watching during that time frame...

I started about that time frame too. Was about 7 or 8 when I finally got into wrestling. My family wasn't big on it so I didn't get to see anything until I was old enough to start staying at friends houses. Remember a friend having a signed poster of Stone Cold and being totally obsessed with it. Was a fan from that day on.

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-04-2014 11:57 PM

Bret Hart. "Watched" him vs Daveyboy on scrambled ppv at wembley stadium and cried when he lost :(

How dare you not watch when you were a kid. Please see yourself out of this forum. :foc:

Subjective question:

Obviously, being spoon-fed Hogan meant he was the best and the greatest and "my favorite" because he was the best and the greatest. "Love this man because we tell you to!" He has a cartoon, shirts, toys, etc., etc., and was an 80's pop culture icon up there with Mr. T. and Chuck Norris. Won't tell you how many plastic grocery bags my brother and I cut the bottom out of so we could wear them as shirts and rip them open while singing "Real American".

But starting to get into wrestling and formulating my own opinions on the matter, two guys really stuck out: Piper and Perfect.

Piper wasn't my "favorite" in the least, but I hated him. All the other heels were "Boo, bad guy, booo!" but Piper made me upset whenever he would promo. It's a testament to how good and inflamatory a heel he actually was. In that way, he's a favorite, because I honestly wanted to see him not just lose, but get his ass kicked.

True answer though is Henning*

This was truly the greatest moment in the history of our sport, and he didn't even fucking say it!

Mr. Perfect became "my" favorite organically. From the day The Genius introduced him I thought he was THE MAN! I liked Hogan because I was "supposed to" like the ultimate hero. I legit liked Mr. Perfect on my own. Catching the towel, swatting the gum, hitting the Perfect plex, and throwing the football to himself... I thought it was all awesome. Didn't care he was a bad guy. I thought he was soooo cool!

The Mask 09-05-2014 12:25 AM

Flyin Brian because he was featured quite heavily on the wcw Saturday show, whatever that was. It was the only non-paying wrestling you could get over here. Remember him feuding with Steven Regal.

Hulk Hogan. Still is my favourite next to JBL.

Tazz Dan 09-05-2014 07:03 AM

I never liked Hulk Hogan growing up at all. It wasn't until I got older and understood the business better I got more of an appreciation for him, to the point,I drank him much higher on my favourite wrestlers of all time over Warrior now.

Bad News Gertner 09-05-2014 07:11 AM

I started watching in 87 and Hogan was my hero. I got so upset when Andre strangled Hogan on Main Event.

Nicky Fives 09-05-2014 07:14 AM

Billy Kidman... loved the 7-Year Itch Shooting Star Press

I started watching WWF in 1997-98. 1998 was when I was a full fledged fan. Right there with you bro :y:

whiteyford 09-05-2014 12:17 PM

Vader, monster heel wcw run, on the aforementioned free wcw Saturday show, or the Steiners killing jobbers on the same show.

Bad News Gertner 09-05-2014 07:22 PM

I honestly didn't even know WCW existed until 1994 and I had been watching the WWF since 87

Bad News Gertner 09-05-2014 09:23 PM

The greatest thing in these convos will be someone saying they hated Hogan and loved Macho Man if theywere around my age and started watching during the Hogan era. Lol I'm sure Macho Man borderline commiting domestic violence on television really won your 7 year old heart.

whiteyford 09-06-2014 03:25 AM

It reminded them of home?

Bad News Gertner 09-06-2014 08:40 AM

Lol you know what gets you over in the eyes of a 7 year old? When a wrestler is about to hit Savage and he pulls Elizabeth in front of him so he won't get hit. Huge babyface move.

Ruien 09-06-2014 08:43 AM

But it is cool to say you did not like Hogan when you were little! How many other 8 year olds were able to tell wrestling was fake and know about work rate?!?!?!?!?!

Lock Jaw 09-06-2014 01:23 PM

I didn't hate Hogan or anything, but Macho Man was my guy. This is probably in large part due to me having a Macho Man toy, and not having any Hogan ones.

Simple Fan 09-06-2014 01:47 PM

Jack Swagger

Lock Jaw 09-06-2014 02:04 PM

Did you just start watching in the past few months?

Ultra Mantis 09-06-2014 02:08 PM

No I have watched since 1996

It took I'm just a fan 15 years to decide on a favorite wrestler.
