Is it really that inexplicable? He doesn't have to try to sell sheep masks to kids by osmosis or somehow convey that being a vintner translates into him being an appealing wrestler (which always sounded like a Vince move to put specifically that over so much during his first solo run).

It's kinda like the Big Show thing all over again where nobody knew he could talk because all his talking was generic bullshit in both WCW and WWF until after his appearance on SNL years into his career. There are likely quite a few on the roster that are better than you think if they either a) take the reins off or b) at least give that person something they can run with.
