Warzone was an excellent game. Was this the first wrestling game to implement a create a wrestler mode?

M-A-G 04-08-2007 06:34 AM

To my knowledge, yeah, considering it was one of the first wrestling games to appear on the next-gen systems.

That old school arcade game. No idea what it's called but there's a joystick and two buttons.

ct2k 04-10-2007 03:18 PM

Just wondering all you guys who are still up on this shit, has anything come close to topping the WCWNWO Revenge/WM2K/No Mercy engine yet? Can still play all 3 of those til my thumbs have gone numb

Xero 04-10-2007 03:35 PM

DOR, I believe, was based at least partly on that engine.

There are Japanese games that people say are great, but in American games, no, the WCW/nWo World Tour engine (originally the VPW engine, correct me if I'm wrong) is the best (in most people's opinions).

ct2k 04-10-2007 03:47 PM

WCW gaming never got better than Revenge did it. I wanted Mayhem to be great but it just never worked, the collision sensing or whatever was awful, so slow and awkward.

Rammsteinmad 04-11-2007 03:03 AM

Backstage Assault.

Hahaha that is hilarious

I kind of liked WCW Mayhem. Mostly because of Bobby Heenan's commentary.

It's the first American wrestling game to do so. The Fire Pro Games on the SNES had CAW-mode before that.

Skippord 04-15-2007 07:42 PM

No Mercy

:shifty:

Xero 04-15-2007 07:48 PM

I've got to be honest, once I started hacking No Mercy I hardly played it, only hacked it.

Mercury Bullet 04-15-2007 08:34 PM

Worst - Legends of Wrestling
Underrated - WCW vs. The World
Best - No Mercy 64

***These are all time-related, being "in their day" they were best, worst, etc.

Blitz 04-16-2007 04:56 AM

If anyone knows where I can find an ISO of WCW vs The World, let me know.

DaveWadding 04-18-2007 03:42 PM

WCW vs the World was the 1st game I got for PS1...Eddie was the mang on that game.

but worst...Prolly IYH.

St. Jimmy 04-18-2007 03:46 PM

WCW/nWo Thunder. That game was bloody terrible.

darkpower 04-19-2007 07:31 AM

Thunder, Backyard Wrestling (where the fuck was the WRESTLING, and the story line mode had no hint of a POINT, as the cutscenes had nothing to do with ANYTHING).

Oh God, don't mention Superbrawl. I was playing it and at one point, when caught in a submission, the ref began counting me out to 10 (like he would for a pinfall) before ringing the bell...apparently I had a 10 count to get out of a submission before he pulled a Montreal on me. But I have never heard a rule like that ANYWHERE in my LIFE, where a ref would actually treat a submission like a 10 count pinfall attempt. The second he went "1, 2, 3, 4," I was like "WHAT THE FUCK?!" And I stared at the screen for the next minute wondering what the fuck just HAPPENED!! And then after I realized, I stared for another 2.

Basically put, WCW SB was WHACKED!!

XL 04-19-2007 09:41 AM

I had a game for my NES, think it was called WWF Wrestling Challenge or something. The only thing I remember is that in the "season" mode you could play as a character called "Me".

You couldn't put your name in, you were just "Me".

Danny Electric 04-19-2007 10:01 AM

I will never know what caused me to buy Backstage Assault.

If there were commentary in the game, would you be referred to as Me or You?

There wasn't commentary per se but if there was a written caption in would say something like...

"Me has defeated the Ultimate Warrior"

Oh hang on it might have been "You" not "Me", as I said I really don't rememeber it that well.:-\

Xero 04-19-2007 10:28 AM

Sounds like something Warrior would actually say.

Me..... HAS DEFEATED........... *SNNNOOOORRRTTT*.... HUULLLLLLLLLLLLLKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK............ HOOOOOGGGGANNNNNN!

I actually have that game though, lol.

Amazed nobody has mentioned ECW Hardcore Revolution yet.

Evil Vito 04-19-2007 11:06 AM

Haha I remember in WCW Mayhem that if you played as Gene Okerlund (the game's ring announcer) he would announce himself as "Me" as he entered

Aside from the horrible graphics, terrible gameplay and general suck assness, when you were at the character select screen the pictures randomly screamed at you. No joke.

Yeah I remember that, a mate had it. Terrible. Also which was the WCW game that had Kevin Nash telling you to pick someone else? That was great.

I don't get the WWF Warzone/Attitude hate, I loved those games. Played them for ages. :'(

As Shaggy says, Simpsons wrestling. Awful awful stuff.

Xero 04-19-2007 09:11 PM

Warzone/Attitude were okay for their time, but everytime I try to play anything on that engine now (including that ECW game) I just can't. So slow and fucking horrible.

WCW Nitro for Playstation I believe

Jaded-Dragon 04-19-2007 11:20 PM

I have to say Thunder was probably the worst. Mayhem was garbage, but I wasn't sure what to expect comming from EA, it being their first wrestling title and all. It was such a disappointment that I didn't even bother with Backstage Assault.

Seriously. First game that came to mind. But I never really played any NES/SNES wrestling games and only played one WCW game for either PS1 or N64, and I remember it being decent. Warzone got me into wrestling as well.

ECW gets my vote.

PorkSoda 04-20-2007 09:36 AM

WCW Nitro.
