I know, I'm talking about the option to buy it by itself.

Vietnamese Crippler 03-03-2008 01:16 PM

Oh, ok, then I agree :y:

Drakul 03-12-2008 11:57 PM

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2008 12:15 AM

Doesn't look nearly as slow as I've heard.

U-Warrior 03-13-2008 12:59 AM

Holy shit, its coming out next month already? Fuck's sake, within the last 2 months, I have bought mario bros. 3, mario 64, and paper mario on the VC, as well as super paper mario, mario galaxy, and smash bros. on the wii. Now this. Fucking mario overload.

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2008 01:30 AM

How slow did you hear it was?

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2008 01:52 AM

They (IGN) claimed it was slower than the DS game.

Just got the latest Official Nintendo Magazine a few days ago. They gave MKWii 94% which means they gave it a gold award.

They say, in the review, that you can play using the wii remote/steering wheel or the remote & nunchuck or the GC controller. I never knew that.

They also say snaking has been taken out. They say this is because you don't have to move the control stick left and right during a powerslide to get a boost now because the boost is determined by how long you slide. So you slide and get blue sparks and eventually get red sparks if you hold the slide long enough.
Meaning that any advantage snaking has (or had) has been taken away.

I like this because I was never fond of snaking but I know a lot of people use it as a technique.

The review also says that stunts can be performed anytime all your vehicles wheels are off the ground and not just when you go of a huge ramp. Tricks are done by flicking the wheel and give you a boost.

Apparantly, the difference between karts and bikes are that bikes can only get blue sparks and not red sparks when powersliding but they can perform wheelies on straights which give them a boost.

If anyone wants to know about something else, ask and I'll flick through the review and see if the answers in there.

KingofOldSchool 03-17-2008 11:16 AM

lol it's a fucking Nintendo magazine what else did you expect?

Too be fair, although it’s a Nintendo mag, they are very fair with the reviews, it’s an all UK team doing the review and they have given some Nintendo produced games some pretty bad reviews

They gave Mario Party 8 69% for example

And Paper Mario got an 81%

Generally they are inline with what the rest of the reviewers give games, and they do have a declaration that although they are a Nintendo mag, they remain impartial with the reviews. I’ve had a subscription for 6 months now and so far I think the review section is very fair.

Plus there’s been times where other mags have given games a higher rating, like with No More Heroes, they gave it an 89%, but I think IGN gave it 94%, so they really don’t oversell the games

Drakul 03-24-2008 01:04 PM

I was on YouTube and came across the intro for the game.

I'll be going along. Anyone else going to be trying it out at their local GAME shop?

Drakul 04-06-2008 04:23 AM

So, I went to the "tournement" (it was really just a glorified time-trial) yesterday and got a chance to have a few races. Bear in mind that I only had a chance to play 4-player multiplayer and we had to stick to Lugi Circuit.

First off, the graphics do resemble Double Dash level graphics. Donkey Kongs model in particular was pretty "jagged" and poor. It still colourful and everything but in the 4 races I had on the same circuit, it did look like DD graphically. This could be because it was 4-player. Single player may look better.

Gameplay was fun as always. A new thing in the game is the drift option. When you select your character and vehicle, you get a choice between Automatic and Manual. For three races, I tried Automatic and it didn't feel right not being able to powerslide at will. I couldn't figure out how to do it in Automatic. I'm assuming I'd have had to turn the wheel to an extreme degree.
The one time I chose Manual I heard people behind me say "Who picked manual!? you're not allowed to pick manual! Who picked manual!?".
Manual made the game much better. The weapon button does change though. In Automatic, the B button is used to fire weapons but in Manual, B is to hop (you hold it and turn the wheel to slide) and the D-pad is for firing forward or back.
The game has what looked like a file select screen. If it was a file select screen, there are four save files available. What leads me to think it was a file select screen was that it had a shot of the players Mii and across the top of the small box it had a list of the different cups and down the left side it had 50cc, 100cc etc. Each of the four files had that so I'm sure it was a file select. We only saw it for a few seconds when someone accidently pressed "back" on the main menu.

The Wheel itself works well enough, it doesn't feel cheap and plasticy and the buttons used in the game are easy to reach and it's very comfy to hold. The 2 button is accelerate and you, supposedly, flick the wheel upward to do tricks but I could never pull it off. Flick the wheel upwards when you ride a bike and it does a wheelie which should give you a boost (the wheelie boost replaces the powerslide boost in bikes because bikes can't powerslide.)
Once you get used to the wheel, it's enjoyable.

Overall, the game seems fun even if this rundown seems a tad negative, it was the circumstance I played it under.
It was way too crowded and it was a case of jumping in the deep end, right into competition rather than having time to get used to it. Plus I had a group of cocky twats behind me ridiculing everyones every move, despite the fact that two of the people I played against that day where young children. The kids where actually better than a few of the older people there actually.

If the game is played in your own enviroment, in your own time I'm sure it would be great.

therocksays 04-06-2008 05:01 AM

this is the longest thing ive ever read about mario cart.

Drakul 04-08-2008 03:38 AM

I could have made it even longer but I tried to keep it as short as I could.

Yeah, was leaked onto the internet on Monday night :)

Anyways, the reason it so cheating is for the 5th time in a row I have had such a lead no-one could catch me, not even with a blue shell, so I get hit with a POW block.... No big deal, can still win.... Blue shell.... Still winning. RED SHELL JUST AS I HIT THE GROUND AND I FINISH 6TH.

That exact combo.... 5 times.... Different tracks. Jesus, I didn't think they would make it more of a cheating bastard, just kept it the same.

As for online play, I had one game before they took the servers down and a 10 player match was smooth as hell. It shows everyones Mii waving from the country they're in before the race starts. Shame you can't talk to anyone :(

Danny Electric 04-11-2008 05:06 AM

So, picked this up last night.
Really enjoying it at the moment, steering wheel takes a while to get used to so I'm playing it without the wheel.
Killing it off at 50cc.

Drakul 04-12-2008 11:36 AM

Done all the cups on 50cc. Pretty cool. Moving onto 100cc tonight.

I don't appreciate certain secret characters being spoiled by staff ghost that are available from the start using them.

Y2Ant 04-12-2008 12:53 PM

I want this so bad but i'm skint :(

Drakul 04-12-2008 01:31 PM

GAME are doing a deal. Trade in any two Wii games and get MKWii for 4.99

Danny Electric 04-12-2008 06:55 PM

Won a few cups on 150cc

Extreme Angle 04-14-2008 02:43 AM

I love this game!
Done all of 100cc and 50cc and just played some online. Got the 50 wins online car aswell... the quad bike thing

Drakul 04-14-2008 02:53 AM

My Wii is curently offline :(
How is online? I heard the world number 1 on a lot of time trials cheated and is unbeatable.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-14-2008 05:25 AM

I was 8th on Luigi circuit for 24 hours :(.

Battle mode is team only online but the races are awesome. I'm a bit surprised by the skill level of people online so far, winning races by like 10 seconds even after taking blue shells. There was one JAP guy who I kept trading wins with but you can't pos rep them like you can on Live and find them more often :(

Dave Youell 04-16-2008 08:48 AM

First things first, here’s my friend code, add me people:

3566 1681 3609

This game is addictive, I haven’t bothered with the wheel, it’s fun, but not as good as using the normal method. I’m preferring the bikes so far, more responsive. Got 6400 points online, so I’m holding my own. Waiting for all the yanks to get on so the fun can really kick in. Setting up a games room is really simple and the whole thing is user friendly. So yeah very impressed.

Oh and how the heck do you cheat to make yourself number 1 with the best times?

U-Warrior 04-16-2008 08:56 AM

So when does this hit stateside?

Dave Youell 04-16-2008 09:03 AM

End of the month I think

You run the first 2 laps and just before crossing the finish line, stop and wait, eventually the timer will reach it's limit and got back to zero and then you just finish the race. So it says you did the race in 45 seconds. I've not seen it myself but I've read people complaining about it.

Dave Youell 04-17-2008 03:20 AM

How fucking sad is that? Jesus!

The 27th to be exact :y:

I still don't know if I'm going to get this. I've never had a Mario Kart game on any of my Nintendo systems and I don't know if this will be the one that breaks the cycle. The online is looking great, but I dunno if that's enough for me to go out and buy it.

It's very addictive, easy to pick up and play, hard to master properlly, loads of tracks.

The online stuff is quick in a good way, about 1-2 minutes between races tops, finding your friends online mid game is easy, all you do is latch on and then you start the next race with them

There's stuff to unlock in 1 player as well. Honestly, it's a great great game. Even my 3 year old kid can play it for god sake.

Danny Electric 04-17-2008 04:23 AM

Can't put it down when Dylan goes to sleep :)
Just need to get a wireless router to get my wii online.

I never said I couldn't play it :o I've been playing Mario Kart since the SNES days, so I'd like to think I know what I'm doing.

It's just that I love playing Mario Kart, but it was never enough to actually buy the game.

Plus the single player offering (which is what I'll probably be playing most of the time) doesn't seem as robust as Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64. Also. the wide tracks bug the hell out of me for some reason.

I'll wait for reviews though and hope that they're good.

Drakul 04-18-2008 02:46 AM

My Wii is back online so I posted my Wii code in the Wii code thread.

Here's my MKWii code: 1246 8965 2476

So expert trials....
I've done so many but I still can't unclock
(highlight to read characters) Funky Kong and all them
