YEA

Jeritron 11-12-2008 07:18 PM

All I ask is to weigh it fairly and not "it's a chick". It's not like its the same as if I put him up against Maria.
Trish was a great wrestler. The best of all time, arguably, in her division. She was the goods and could play heel and face within her role as well as anyone else.
She did a lot for her industry, and the title she held.
She was also a work horse and an amazing athlete. She had good matches.
Yes, she was a woman, which if you're going to be sexist makes it even more impressive.

To me it's important to judge them on their respective talent, and status within their industry. It's not like genetics make better athletes. So The Rock is stronger and faster. This isn't a UFC fight, it's an atheltic performance art.
It's about how good they are at their jobs.

It's not like anybody, aside from sexists, is going to claim that Robert Deniro blows Meryl Streep out of the water because he is a man. It's a matter of preference in many ways, but if thats so explain it. Don't just say "pfft, shes a girl". Or that any given male pro athlete is better than the best female athlete because they are faster and stronger than her. It's about performance within their circuit.

Gertner 11-12-2008 07:21 PM

It's not sexist. It's just true. If they were equal then there wouldn't be a women's division.
The Rock is one of the top faces and heels of all time. Picking a vagina over him is just stupid.

Jeritron 11-12-2008 07:25 PM

Nobody said they were equal as athletes. They can be equal in an overall sense though, to their industry.
Keep in mind these are peformers and not competitors. They have a women's division seperate from the males for more complex reasons than just what you point out

Gertner 11-12-2008 07:27 PM

Because women competiting with men is stupid

CSL 11-12-2008 07:33 PM

This thing became a joke a long time ago (see: When Taz went in)

KYR 11-12-2008 07:35 PM

Who were the socks that voted anyway?

Rock Votes: Blasted & Caterpillar (never heard of them)?
HBK Votes: Guy Fawkes?

So would have ended up being either a draw or a 1 vote win to The Rock? Or am I missing someone.

Well because it's kayfabe. Even though we all know they're not actually fighting, we're meant to think they're fighting.
Of course, Trish would never beat The Great Khali in a fist fight. Doesn't mean she's not more talented as a wrester/performer than he is.
The seperation of the genders in divisions is all a part of kayfabe. It has very little to do with talent or athleticism.

The audience who claims to be smart to these things looks the other way, and in many ways still relies on kayfabe. It's important that it's upheld. Surely if I'm booking a show that's supposed to seem real I can't have Mickie James going over Mark Henry, even if she's far more talented. That's just the way it is, and understandably so.

Since that's how the audience has been conditioned, and how kayfabe makes it seem, the companies run with this. This is why WWE fills its womens division with no talent eye candy. No talents who look hot.
They do the same with their main event really. No talents who look tough.

That's not what we're judging here though. This message board is not in kayfabe.

So those who excel should be judged on their merits as performers. Athleticism comes into play, but it's all relative to what they're accomplishing out there in the ring.
The Rock is stronger, sure.
He can't pull off backflips and hurricanrans though.

That's why Chyna made it so far. It was believable that she could beat up men to a kayfabe audience, and it was built upon over time. She broke through the division system you point out, but she wasn't a better wrestler than Trish. (And I know you're gonna say 'but she was a man') Your whole argument is based on kayfabe.

Really, it's all a matter of how you look at wrestlling. If you look at it narrowly, then this is a much easier vote to cast.

Gertner 11-12-2008 07:42 PM

Trish Stratus is NOT more talented than The Rock.

Jeritron 11-12-2008 07:44 PM

Well that's the first time you've said that

Jeritron 11-12-2008 07:45 PM

Until just now you're argument has consisted of "dick over vagina" and "women beating men is stupid"

Jeritron 11-12-2008 07:46 PM

Is it really the Trish votes that are voting with the wrong head?

Nowhere Man 11-12-2008 07:57 PM

Not really. Trish was able to bring a newfound amount of workrate and respectability to what's usually considered the joke division of American wrestling. Of course, it all went out the window when she (and others like Molly Holly and Victoria) were replaced by the Diva Search chicks. She wasn't exactly Ric Flair, but for women's wrestling, she might as well have been.

The Rock, on the other hand, had the same problem then that Cena has now: great PPV matches from time to time, but by and large was predictable and repetitive.

therocksays 11-12-2008 08:06 PM

my point is the rock put on a better show than trish.

shes a good wrestler in her division yes ill give her that much and is talented.
but my OPINION is that she cant compare to the rock, be able to put on a good match pump up the crowd, wrestling moves etc.

the end all i have to say about that

Should have been the first thing you said.

Loose Cannon 11-12-2008 08:37 PM

lol at the arguments for Trish. please. I can't even believe I am reading these posts making a case for fucking Trish Stratus over The Rock. I'm just going to leave it at that and not even make a case for Rock over Trish because I feel like I'm on candid camera or something.

I never made a case for Trish over The Rock. Just for fair judgement
Mainly defending the validity of the matchup

Jeritron 11-12-2008 08:46 PM

I did vote for Trish though. I have my reasons

therocksays 11-12-2008 09:01 PM

LOL

Destor 11-12-2008 11:05 PM

The Rock is a doo doo poopy head :n:

Fabien Barthez 11-13-2008 07:45 AM

Trish. If The Rock can beat Shawn, then I will just be flipping a coin from now on.

Shame, I liked this game :(

Destor 11-13-2008 03:10 PM

I don't understand your logic there. I was PISSED when Flair lost, be hey. It's the way the polls went. Both Flair and HBM will have another day in the sun, let's not forget Eddie, Benoit, Hart, and Jerocho all lost as well. This game has had some surprising results, but that's why I love it. And all mention will return, it's not the end of the world.

The Franchise 11-13-2008 03:24 PM

How can The Rock beat HBK but not Trish? lol

Rocky all the way and screw all the pansy WWE wrestlers at the Hall of Fame this year. Rock owned like 98% of their work in the last year in 10 minutes.

The Franchise 11-13-2008 03:25 PM

Plus, The Rock is the President of the United States.

4 knuckles up 11-13-2008 04:47 PM

I always vote in these polls as if I were going to see them wrestle. Who would I rather see wrestle? Rock, or Trish? I picked the Rock.

So many ways to respond.............. hmmmmmmm

Alright, just ignore the thread from now on. If you want a game where you control everything, but a X-Box or whatever and play that. And hey, if you lose you can re load.

BigDaddyCool 11-14-2008 10:41 AM

WTF...Trish is holding ground with the Rock...Rock beat HBK,HBK beat Flair. So does this mean, in theory Trish can hold ground with Flair and HBK as well?!?!?!?

The Mackem 11-14-2008 11:10 AM

The Rock

Shut the fuck up. If I want to be sweepingly dramatic, and make a point, then I will. I don't need to 'but' an X-Box, I need all the arseholes who voted for The Dwayne to put down their action figures, take off their foam belts, stop crotch chopping themselves and watch some actual wrestling!

So, what were your other responses, guy I've never seen post before?

The Franchise 11-15-2008 12:21 PM

The Rock kept the momentum going in the Attitude Era when Austin was injured. He's had a ridiculous number of entertaining and good matches, was a bigger draw, better at promos, made a larger impact, influenced more people (actually Rocky has a great deal of influence on Trish) etc...

I think people forgot just how good The Rock was. Imagine the WWE never having a Trish Stratus and then imagine the WWE never having The Rock.

El Fangel 11-15-2008 03:48 PM
