Other than that, I see no reason why the hell they shouldn't have just found a better way to approach this, such as have Teddy apologize first to Vince and Undertaker, and then the audience in the ring, and then either have Vince:

A.) Tell him he's still on probation (MEH).
2.) Tell him he's not on probation anymore (Better than option 1, I suppose).
III.) Fire Him (He's been around forever anyways, and no offense, but to me he's just getting kind of stale...it could've even led to possibly a heel GM for SD!, which if they chose the right person for the "job", it could've been awesome. But I guess that may not happen).

I entertained the thought of Long getting fired as well...but who would be the new GM?

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2009 02:11 AM

Bring back Vickie?

Skippord 09-20-2009 02:46 AM

Edge for GM

Exactly. This wasn't good, and was rather quite embarrassing, but of you're going to do this sort of bullshit, either make it really, really crisp (which the WWE can't do), or make it completely ridiculous. The WWE can do that.

As for where this is heading -- Theodore Long sounds like he was just making a business decision he didn't want to make. Long is not a bad guy, but just a pathetic, desperate one. My guess is that Taker takes him captive, does some shit to him (don't try and imagine it), and next week Long announces The Undertaker vs. CM Punk in Hell in a Cell.

From here, we can either have Vince and Teddy's thing continue, with Vince being the unappeasable boss he seems to be, or you can have Vince finally impressed with Teddy, and decide to end his probation.

Skippord 09-20-2009 03:14 AM

or Teddy shooting Vince with an assault rifle

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2009 03:15 AM

That's great that some of you enjoyed it. I don't want to take that away from anybody. However, I maintain that it was shitty as fuck.

I would have marked out if Teddy had gotten in the limo, and everything went as it did ("Bucke up, Teddy...") only after he freaks, Long pulls out a glock and blows Taker's head off.

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2009 03:21 AM

That sounds PG (pretty gangsta)

Good Lord, no. Anybody but her. I doubt it would ever happen even in my wildest dreams, but I always sorta enjoyed Paul "E." Heyman's stints as both SD! and ECW GM. Kinda feel like they really didn't give him a fair shake with the whole ECW gig, but at best it would probably be mediocre, and at worst we'd probably end up with Vince going back to getting 750,000 years of camera time every show, so fuck that. I honestly do not know a good heel candidate that would make a suitable replacement.

Lord-Of-Darkness 09-20-2009 08:39 AM

I can see Long turning full heel GM tbh. Kind of how Flair turned when faced with Austin as owner of Raw.

Theo Dious 09-20-2009 09:43 AM

I know it won't happen but I'd love for Taker to open the next SD and come out to say "Since Teddy won't be joining us this week, I've found a suitable replacement General Manager." And out comes Paul Bearer who officially announces Punk vs Taker, HIAC.

Theo Dious 09-20-2009 09:44 AM

Seeing as how Vince was basically on Taker's side, it could happen...

Anybody Thrilla 09-20-2009 12:22 PM

Sorry bro, Bearer can't make it. He's trapped in cement.

Come on man, even Hornswoggle with a chisel could have chipped him free at this point...

What do you mean? On SmackDown!? I got the impression that Vince is on his own side here. He told Teddy Long to do something radical, and Long did, and now Vince is saying he told Teddy to do what Teddy's face character, in actuality, was perceived as doing all along.

Vince definitely seems to be more of a heel than a face right now (on SmackDown!). The smile he gave when he was no doubt picturing the shit Taker would do to Teddy Long made him look sadistic as all fuck. Vince is a crazy old man on SmackDown!.

The more I think about it, the more I think it is logical to give Teddy a break as SmackDown! General Manager. Long does his job well, no doubt, but he's been on the show for ages, with only a little break here and there. His character is evolving, but as such, it seems like that increases its chances of being written off.

I'm sure they could bring him back later, anyway. But an interim General Manager making the ruling for Hell in a Cell while Teddy is "missing" could get us to where we want to go. Long being gone could create suspense, too.

Mogadishu 09-20-2009 07:37 PM

LOL - completely agree that it was a great segment...for all the wrong reasons.

I would have marked out had Taker said, "Where to.....Teddy?!?!"

But scarier...

The thing I didn't understand is why didn't Teddy just unlock the door and step out?

Come on man, Taker is smart enough to engage the child safety locks.

Sixx 09-21-2009 07:54 PM

Just saw it. Helluva cheesy but I had a laugh.

Mr. Nerfect 09-22-2009 09:52 AM

I think they should keep Teddy Long off SmackDown! for a while, actually, and have a new General Manager come in. Perhaps someone with a bit of star power. Ric Flair would have been good if they could have gotten him. I cannot for the life of me think who would be good for this.

I think a big reason they moved Batista over to SmackDown! was to lend them "credibility," though. A big name as General Manager could be cool.

Y2Ant 09-22-2009 10:08 AM

It was the high pitched gasp that did it for me. I couldn't stop laughing, was almost in tears.

So glad they replayed it like 3 times too.

Mr. Nerfect 09-22-2009 10:31 AM

It reminded me of a Thriller-like intro to a music video. One thing I did like about the screwjob stuff, was Vince's sadistic smile after he booted Teddy out of the office.

parkmania 09-22-2009 06:18 PM

The one thing I hope they actually come up with a plausible answer for is:

if Vince wasn't the one directing Teddy to screw over Taker, then WHO WAS IT?

It needs to be either the person who will get the GM role while Teddy is missing, or someone within the WWE Corporate structure, like Shane O'.

Please, please, PLEASE let it not end up like the "Who ran down Austin" or "Who killed Vince" storylines. Make it realistic.

...a man just used his supernatural abilities to fill a limo with smoke from nowhere... and you want realism? :?:

OK, maybe realistic isn't a proper word for what I want.

How about make it someone "plausible". Is that a satisfactory word for you?
