Silva would murder Griffin

Its wierd how they do it. They will not totally ignore the history from Pride, but they tell the story that suits their purposes.

For example, when talking about Liddell-Jackson, you only really hear about the UFC 71 fight, you dont hear them say "and now Jackson is 2-0 against Liddell".

However, I would bet if they do Liddell-Jackson 3, they will play up the fact that this is huge for Liddell because he's had two loses in his career to Jackson in the Countdown show. But on the commercials to the mass audience, they will just talk about Jackson taking Liddell's title, not the backstory from Pride days.

Then, if Liddell wins that third fight, and they want to sell a rubber match (UFC), the Pride fight will be largely forgotten.

Destor 07-07-2008 04:30 PM

Just watched it with another freind and he scored it 47-47. (Gave round 2 10-8 Griffen.)

Great fight though. They have to have a rematch in the near future.

Round three was the only one that was hard to score.

James Steele 07-07-2008 05:10 PM

I just finished the Jackson/Griffin fight and scored it like this:

Round 1: 10-9 JACKSON
Rampage did more damage despite not being a constant grind. The last 90 seconds gave Rampage the round and hurt Forrest.

Round 2: 10-7 GRIFFIN
Utter domination on the ground by Griffin on Jackson and leg kicks that did their job.

Round 3: 10-9 JACKSON
Rampage dodged and blocked a lot of the blows, and hit Griffin harder until the tail end of the fight. The last flurry wasn't enough for Forrest to overcome the power of the strikes by Rampage.

Round 4: 10-9 JACKSON
Rampage and Forrest went to-to-toe in this round. I barely give the edge to Rampage just because he got out of the triangle with that slam and got the good opening slam in while Forrest got his licks in, but was on the defense for a lot of the round.

Round 5: 10-9 GRIFFIN
The first 2 minutes of the fight were giving the slight edge to Griffin. From 3:30 to 3:00 it was Rampage. From 3:00-1:40 was Griffin. The last 90 seconds were split for me. The last 45 seconds were all Rampage except for the last little burst from Griffin.

Winner: GRIFFIN 47-46

Rob 07-07-2008 06:50 PM

10-7? Fuck right off.

James Steele 07-07-2008 06:55 PM

Am I supposed to score it 10-9 just because he moved a little, or just because he is one of UFC's big draws?

Rob 07-07-2008 07:04 PM

I don't think Silva would beat Griffin right now. I can see it being very similar to the Rua fight. People are still under rating Forrest Griffin. Man has big time skills now.

As for the fight Saturday, enough people are scoring round 2 10-8 that I'm not really gonna argue it now. Still disagree but whatever. Rampage only winning 1 round is insane talk though.

Future title shot. Here's my preferences in order:

1 - Jackson rematch.
2 - Evans vs. Liddell winner. Evans has enough wins now and is undefeated and if he beats Liddell, that's enough to warrant a title shot instantly.
3 - ABM

Anyone But Machida!!!

Dana White is saying that they will probably go with the rematch first. I'm fine with this. The lack of rematches has hurt guys before. Should go with whatever is hot and fuck promising people title matches.

Was he on the verge of losing? No. 10-8 at a real stretch. 10-7 in your dreams pal.

Rampage wasn't doing anything in that round, but trying to survive. He should get 8 points just because Forrest didn't go in for the kill?

Stickman 07-07-2008 07:20 PM

10-8 yes, 10-7 no chance.

So, you are admitting that UFC will book what will draw more than a legitimate contender? Interesting, for a legitimate sport.

Rob 07-07-2008 07:49 PM

When did I admit that?

And for the record, I do think that if contenders aren't exciting to watch then they shouldn't get title shots. Why the fuck would anyone want Lyoto Machida as their champion? His fights suck a dick and NOBODY wants to pay to watch him fight. Your champions and contenders need to be people your viewing people want to pay to watch. Whether you like that or not, that's the facts. Who was the last boring boxing champion that people paid to see?

Exactly the same as wrestling. You pay to see the stars.

Then it has no claim to being a legitimate sport. If the everything but the fight itself is full of bullshit...then it isn't legitimate. So you are saying that if there is an MMA fighter who kicks everybody's ass and is undefeated, but it is "boring" to the mass, he shouldn't get a title shot because he can't make money for Dana White?

No wonder UFC needed the rub of following WWE when it debuted TUF, because UFC is no fucking different than the UFC.

Rob 07-07-2008 08:18 PM

Of course. And Machida isn't kicking everyone's arse. That's the point.

So boxing can't be a sport either right? Every single big fight in the history of the sport has been built up by hype. Machida has yet to beat a top 10 fighter anyway. Tito Ortiz was a borderline top 10 fighter really. And just about all the top 205lbs fighters don't want to fight Machida because he sucks a cock.

Crimson 07-07-2008 11:07 PM

That's Rob's opinion only though..I would hate to see Machida as champ also..but if he keeps winning he'll get a title shot regardless. Unless of course all of a sudden Dana starts up shit with another contract dispute on purpose so he won't get a title shot lol.

Jura 07-08-2008 02:45 AM

The Machida hype is so premature IMO. Like Rob said, he's only really beat Tito, and Tito isnt a top of the heap guy anymore.

I want to see him at least beat one of Liddell, Rua, Wand or Rampage BEFORE he gets a title shot.

He would be a nightmare as champion due to his style, but I dont think the UFC would deny him a shot when he earns it.

So I stayed up to watch the event and fell asleep in round 3 of the Griffin/Rampage fight.

From what I've seen of machida and that's only a few fights I have been impressed with him.

Rob 07-11-2008 07:52 AM

If you have only seen the Soku and Ortiz fights, I'd disagree but I can understand this. Go watch the rest of his UFC fights and that will change your mind. Start with the David Heath fight. It was so bad that it didn't even air on the American showing.

I really want to see this Silva thing backfire for Dana White. Ofcourse, theres no way that'll happen cause i'm sure James Irvin will be payed to walk into one. But still, i'd like to see him knock Silva out on live television just so to punk Dana for trying to steal Afflictions thunder and risking his #1 guy like this for nothing. But we all know Irvin is gunna get paid enough money not to win so its a mute point.

Fedor will win. I dont think Sylvia will mount much offense, but i think he'll give enough defense to make this a boring fight.

Rob 07-13-2008 08:33 AM

I think people are seriously under estimating Tim Sylvia. Obviously Fedor is Fedor but it ain't like Sylvia doesn't have a wicked record. Ben Rothwell, Jason Lambert, Andre Arlovski, Cabbage, Ricco Rodriguez, Jeff Monson and Brandon Vera aren't exactly chumps. He is an underdog for sure but with his size and knock out power, you can't rule him out. Fedor also hasn't fought a top heavyweight in 3 years and even then people debate just how good Mirko Cro Cop really ever was.

I'd tip Fedor still but 3-1 in a 1 on 1 fight are good odds.

Reavant 07-13-2008 11:34 AM

Oh comon thats BS and you know it. Cro Crop was one of the best Heavyweights and the most feared striker in the world when Fedor faced him. Dont act like he wasnt now that he's lost a few. Thats bs.

People do debate it. I never said I did.

And for the record, aside from Josh Barnett, what top 5 heavyweights has he beaten? That's the argument from the Cro Cop doubters.

Yeah I'm sure Irvin will be paid off. You sir are a logical thinker.

Silva is not their "#1 guy", if he was, he wouldnt be fighting for free on a throw together card. He may be the best fighter in the world, but he's probably not even top 5 for the UFC in terms of drawing money (which is what matters).

If Irvin wins, then Irvin becomes a big star because he beat a guy who was supposed to be unstoppable. And then he'll be put in there with the upper level guys at 205.

The CyNick 07-14-2008 01:00 PM

When Fedor was actually proving he was a dominant champion, Matt Hughes was clearly the best 170lb fighter in the world. A lot can change in MMA in a short period of time.

Fedor may not be able to hang with the top guys anymore.

Personally I think he will catch Tim in a sub, but I dont think its out of the realm of possibility to say Sylvia can knock him out.

Of course that would be the worst thing for Affliction, because it would ruin money matches with Fedor down the road. Maybe they should pay off Tim.....

Reavant 07-14-2008 01:05 PM

I still think theres some behind the scenes things going on with Dana white and sylvia to try and fuck up the coture-fedor fight. If Sylvia beats fedor, I see him back in the UFC being paid twice what he was making before.

Rob 07-14-2008 01:46 PM

He is making more than twice he made in the UFC now with Affliction. Sylvia wanted $1 million a fight and Dana White laughed at him since he couldn't draw flies with two handfuls of shit.

If he comes back, it won't be for that money. I don't see him coming back anyway.

Kris P Lettus 07-14-2008 02:32 PM

Driver hits at least three cars during chase that begins on 55 freeway and ends with arrest on Balboa Peninsula.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, former light heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighter Championships, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, hit-and-run and reckless driving Tuesday after he allegedly led police on a pursuit from Costa Mesa to Newport Beach, police said.

Jackson, the driver of a lifted, gray pick-up truck left crashed cars, shredded tires and sparks in his wake this afternoon when he led police on a short pursuit from the southbound 55 freeway exit onto Newport Boulevard where he hit at least three cars, police said.

The driver hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, then drove away at about 1:13 p.m., Lt. Paul Dondero said. A Costa Mesa police officer saw the driver southbound approaching 17th Street and tried to pull him over, police said. There, he hit at least one more car before continuing to run, now heading south toward the Balboa Peninsula, Dondero said. Some time after that, the truck blew a tire but continued to drive on its rims, Dondero said.

Jackson eventually gave up, pulled over and was arrested, police said. The whole chase lasted about five minutes, Dondero said.

I just watched EliteXC Cage Rage 27 and here's what happened:

lol What a poor sport. He's probably angry that his boy got knocked out so quick.

BUT HE SO FUNNY!!!!

Silly black people..

McLegend 07-16-2008 01:38 PM

It's all Forrest's fault.

The CyNick 07-16-2008 04:29 PM

Not sure the differences with the laws there, but I dont think he'll get jail time for this. Even though its friggin crazy. Interested to hear what his explanation is for all this.

Kris P Lettus 07-16-2008 05:16 PM

He'll prolly get hit and run and obstruction or misdemeanor evading..

Fines, community service, and probation at the most..

Impact! 07-17-2008 12:24 AM

Bit random, but does anyone know the name of the song that was used in Rampage Jacksons hype video from the Final conflict 2003 ppv (for his fight with Chuck)?

The most astonishing thing there is that Phil Baroni finally broke that losing streak. I thought he was gonna retire after that last fight I saw him in.

RAMPAGE IS SO FEARED THAT EVEN HIS LIFE-LIKE DECAL SCARES PEOPLE.

Fabien Barthez 07-17-2008 08:59 AM

Those Rampage pictures are amazing. I'd love anyone who tries to evade the police in a 2.5tonne truck with their face all over it.

Not to mention, the only reason it stopped where it did, was because his tyre, from the company who sponsor him, and also have their name on the truck blew out. Good story!

I have been out of the loop for the last 3/4 weeks with not being home and such so I need a few questions answering if possible...

1, When did Setanta get all the exclusive rights to UFC here? and what is Bravo left with?

2, Is there anywhere I can watch Rampage/Forrest streamed? I will have to download it when I get home from Malta on Saturday if not, but I have a really free afternoon ahead of me, and it would be nice to watch it.

3, Is there any way I can watch the Affliction show Live in England? That is some fucking card...

Danny Electric 07-17-2008 11:59 AM

Setanta has always shown the UK events live, but the last event was the first one to be shown live from the USA, I am not sure what Bravo has now but I have Setanta so it's all good.

Reavant 07-17-2008 07:04 PM

Rampage is in the mental hospital now

Reavant 07-17-2008 09:59 PM

HOLY SHIT.... watch the end of this video it is absolutly hilarious

They've officially started doing all the shows since UFC 86, but they've been doing the UK shows. Bravo still has occasional UFC unleashed shows and what have you, and Bravo are gonna show the Affliction show on Sunday night.

Cactus Sid 07-18-2008 07:20 AM

Scratch that, apparently the Affliction show isn't on Bravo on Sunday anymore....

Fabien Barthez 07-18-2008 09:06 AM

I nearly repped you for telling me that in your first post..

Then I decided against it with the following.
Fuck Setanta. I can usually download the PPV's and be watching them Sunday night, as I'm used to with Bravo anyway.

I watched Rampage Griffin yesterday. I had rampage win 1, 3 and maybe 5. round 2 was 10-8 for sure. So draw In my eyes. The judges scoring was bullshit though. Although, if you were to judge the fight overall, Forrest won for sure.
