JJ Moore 10-08-2004 06:55 PM

dont know if it's been said, cant be assed to find.

It will take 24 Real time hours to ride on a BMX from one end of the map to the other.

el fregadero 10-08-2004 06:56 PM

Oh my.

DS 10-08-2004 07:08 PM

That's not true.

JJ Moore 10-08-2004 07:24 PM

meh was told at a convention 3 weeks ago from rockstar north reps.

DS 10-08-2004 07:34 PM

I still don't believe it as they stated earlier it only takes an hour.

Gonzo 10-08-2004 07:39 PM

There is no point to that statistic except to prove the size of the game area. Even then, it sounds a little farfetched.

Only

DS 10-08-2004 10:11 PM

Cycle from Los Santos to The Back O' Beyond would take you about 40 minutes.

Not saying it's long but shorter then 24 hours. Who would do that anyways. Get a plane, train, or automobile.

I heard that it takes an hour between two of the cities, not the whole map... I wouldnt be suprised if it takes 2-4 hours for the whole map...

BTW, havent been keeping up as well as I should, but will there be fast travel? So you dont have to drive an hour? I mean, sure it'll be fun as hell, but with 100+ hours of main missions, I think you'll want to do a few of em quickly...

DS 10-08-2004 10:56 PM

The hour traveling is by bike. Car will get you there a lot faster. There is also planes, trains, trollies, etc. They will take you to places faster. Think of GTA3's train/subway system.

el fregadero 10-09-2004 01:31 AM

Yeah, I love GTA, but I don't think I will test out the biking across the entire map theory.

Hired Hitman 10-09-2004 02:39 AM

Seriously guys, I don't think it would take anymore than half an hour to get to one edge to the other, look at the Los Santos map on the GTA:SA website, now look at San Fierro, I would say it would take under half an hour to pass though them.

Ofcourse there is Las Ventras and a Desert to count for, but those two alone would take no more than 10 minutes to ride through straight.

el fregadero 10-09-2004 02:54 AM

There probably isn't one road that goes straight through the entire map though.

You'll learn this more as you work in Game, but the reps generally lie

Yeah that's the truth. Usually best to just wait for R*s word.

Also, Gamespot and IGN are going to update this weekend. Today I believe.

Hollywood Red 10-09-2004 02:12 PM

Odd considering I've never known IGN (or GameSpot for that matter) to update on weekends. It's possible, though.

DS 10-09-2004 02:31 PM

They've done that for every GTA update they've had.

DS 10-09-2004 06:07 PM

Ok IGN has updated with a closer look at San Fierro. I'll post the pictures then the info. Or highlights of the info at least.

Some of those have been posted but still. Ok here comes the info...

DS 10-09-2004 06:34 PM

  • The town of Garcia is home of the Rifa Gang and the Cobra Martial Arts Dojo.
  • The sensei at the Cobra will teach you mostly kicks including front kicks, roundhouses, and drop heels. He will teach you the correct button combinations and so on.
  • There is remains of the 1989 earthquake in the game along with full trolleys as already stated. You can ride them like the trains to save time or hijack them.
  • You have a garage called "The Hub".
  • Only certain cars can get the nitrous upgrade.
  • The nitrous can be bought depending on how much you want and how many boosts. Theres a graphic that goes in the backseat of the car to show you how big it is. The N20 is suppose to be pretty fast.
  • Press circle of L1 for the nitrous. Usually lasts about 10-15 seconds.
  • You can break through destructable objects using the nitrous that you usually couldn't.
  • Each car type has it's own physics including the bicycles, monster trucks, and go-karts. They are suited for different situations (long trips, hillclimbing, etc.)
  • The mod garages (like The Hub) are located around San Andreas where you can do paint jobs, 2 color blending, top style (hard, soft, no, etc) and the size of your systems bass.
  • Different shops do different modifications. Wheels Angels does street racing while there is a place in Los Santos that does low riders.
  • Noise is the number one way emenies will spot you, so they have added stealth. Hide in shadows, crouch and walk, etc.
  • You walk up behind enemies and tap circle to plunge a knife into their neck or if you want to take them out from a distance, you can do so with the help of a silenced pistol. Or unsilenced, whatever.

That's it for the major points. You can give it a read if you like.

And now for the Gamespot update. Highlighting San Fierro as well.

DS 10-09-2004 11:17 PM

  • Clothes you buy will be kept in your wardrobe where you can change at safe houses.
  • The save icon is a 3.5 floppy disk, little fun on the 90's theme.
  • Pressing L1 with a weapon brings up your skill status of the weapon.
  • There's a status bar to show the progress. Starting out CJ has Poor skills but can get them up to Gangster or Hitman.
  • Go to Ammu-Nation to upgrade your skills at the shooting range where you face 2 people in a race to most hits.
  • First round's winner is the one who can shoot out 3 targets at different distances.
  • Second round's winner is the one who can hit moving targets the fastest.
  • The final round is one target that everyone shoots at, the one who hits it most wins.
  • There's a double barrel shotgun that fires 2 shots in a row. It's called the Ammu-Nation Special.
  • If you get your skills high enough, you can dual weild that (along with others) but that means 4 shotgun shots at a time.
  • You'll want to go to driving school to learn new driving techniques and raise skills letting you do sharper turns at high speed or stopping faster.
  • 4 wheeled vehicles have in-air control like the motorcycle in Vice City but slower. It helps with the pitch and turn which can "be pretty handy if you happen to take an accidental jump off a canyon, which could actually happen."
  • There is also a boat school to help you with that too.
  • As said before, there are trains that you can take and watch the scenery if you'd like. Or, since you are playing GTA, hijack it by going to the engine and pulling the engineer out. Then you can press R3 for all new Freight Mission.
  • There's go and stop where you have a time limit to try and stop at a little blip on the map. You can derail the train if you go to fast but if you make it, get ready for a good amount of money.

That's it for the weekend update.

DS 10-10-2004 02:57 PM

A magazine named Games had a little quote in their recent article. I'll let you read it and decide what you want to think:

There's so much more to be revealed - There's even talk of a top-secret two-player mode.
- GamesTM Issue 24

Dorkchop 10-10-2004 03:03 PM

Oh... My... God.

How the balls did they fit all this into the game? Seriously, I thought the PS2 discs wouldn't be able to have more than what was in GTA 3. It's evident that Rockstar really give the gamers what they ask... And more.

Requiem 10-10-2004 03:11 PM

I would -kill- for -ANY- type of two-player mode.... and I mean -KILL-.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-10-2004 03:13 PM

Anyone played Multi-Theft Auto on PC? If it's anything like that then I will jizz more than likely

They are using a dual layer disc so they can fit twice as much as they could on it. And I hope it's like MTA as well.

well Every Homie has to learn, bro. ;)

DS 10-11-2004 09:48 PM

Just some quick notes:

- If you have enough respect with your Gang Members, you can take up to 8 of them with you to help out.
- In Stores like Binco and SubUrban you can also buy Watches, Hats and Neckchains.
- Remote Control Vehicle Races will make a return from GTA Vice City.
