Shida shoots on AEW claiming she is injured.

Lol, what a fucking mess.

The shoot interviews are going to be very interesting.

Sounds like Grand Slam will be an annual event and back to Arthur Ashe in September.
I’ll definitely be going again. I just hope they can sort shit out with the concession lines this time, open more stands. |

Shida is my favorite female sports entertainer and she would (should) be a champion in any promotion in the world. Tony needs to cut down on the Jade and Brit promos and afford more ring time for the women. I'll honestly be sad to see P-Ford leave |
This will def be a transitional year for AEW. I don't see Discovery keeping them after the 2023 contract ends.

MJF continues to tease he can’t wait to get out. AEW fans continue to tell themselves it’s definitely a work.

I mean they probably get paid at the same time. No reason to believe he pays Lee & Swerve then pays MJF. Although if he is getting paid after those guys I can understand why he’d want out.
|
Lee & Swerve turned out to be massive busts, didn’t they? Just misused in the WWE, I’m sure.
MJF wants to be a star. AEW got off to a false start and the place that is going to give him the best exposure is WWE. Cody has got a foot in the door and is proving that the WWE will use talent that have got something special to offer. His deal isn’t up until 2024, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this talk about going is designed to twist Tony’s arm into releasing him. TK can’t book MJF into a hole, because he’s too good. That would also look petty from the company’s perspective. But he can’t exactly use MJF on top knowing that he’s going to go to the WWE, right? I wouldn’t be surprised at all if MJF gets squashed by Wardlow at Double or Nothing and that’s the last we see of MJF for a couple of months. FOX is airing the SuperBowl next February. WWE has got a reasonable shot at getting a slot on directly after it. That’s a 100 million viewer lead-in. If that thing goes down, I guarantee MJF wants to be on it. I can very easily see Roman/Rock and Cody/MJF as two big matches for Mania next year. |
It wouldn’t surprise me if the reason Cody and MJF only had one match against each other goes beyond Tony being a horrible booker and it was consciously Cody and MJF pocketing it for later use in the WWE.
|
Has Mox signed a new deal with AEW yet? He’s another guy I could very easily see jumping ship. WWE is a more structured environment. They’re the best place to build a legacy. Hopefully he’s gotten the silly death match stuff out of his system. If he returns to the WWE, there’s two Hall of Fame rings and a lifetime of Shield documentaries waiting for him. It’s something his daughter could cash in on over her life too. AEW is just money now. It’s value will be people talking about what a missed opportunity it was on the WWE Network.
|
Have we heard anything on JR either? WWE could very easily use him as a special guest commentator and a talent scout/consultant.
|
This is what I figured, but it’s now out there that TK wants MJF to sign a new contract for more money but a longer commitment, but MJF doesn’t want to extend his time with AEW. He wants the option of going in 2024.
There are grumblings that talent in AEW thinks he should sign the deal if he wants the money he’s worth, but what they don’t get is that he doesn’t want to. MJF knows exactly what he’s doing. He’ll either be out before his deal ends or he’ll be making that bank when it does. |
Also, I’m just going to say this: I’m skeptical that Omega is ever going to return to AEW. Between Punk and Danielson coming in and the video game being a money pit, I think Omega might be pulling a Shawn Michaels until his deal is up and he can sign on with WWE for 2 years.
AJ Styles at Mania 39. Jericho at Mania 40. He puts over one of their guys at Mania 41 then calls it a day. |
FTR in June 2023 and The Bucks with Jericho in early 2024.
|
Hopefully Christian can get out soon too. A 3-yr deal suggests he might be a free agent come March 2024, but given his age it’s possible he didn’t get the 3-yr thing and maybe he gets out 2023. That’s if talent can’t ask for their releases, which MJF might change.

Glad Noid is enjoying this splendid Sunday discussing his favorite professional wrestling promotion. |
The schadenfreude is going to be amazing.

i dont think mjf could find any success outside of AEW long term. he should probably tread lightly in negotiations

With Cody, Vince has demonstrated he’s going to take more of an AWA approach to coax talent in as opposed to the WCW “we’ll bury the guys from the outset to make ourselves look better approach.” MJF has a huge backer in the WWE in Cody Rhodes, who definitely seems to have Vince’s ear. He’s young as fuck and an all-round performer who has proven that he can get people into whatever story he’s telling. You said long-term, which is interesting. I can definitely see him being hottest when he initially shows up. But if that is in 2024, he’ll be coming in as the WWE will be looking to move past Roman Reigns as the A1 guy and they will be looking to have guys who can work with your Bron Breakkers and Gable Stevesons of the world. Cody will probably have creative sway over their program, which could very well be the first thing MJF does there. He’ll be able to say the things he wants to say via Cody and make that impression. If the guy wants to be a singer/actor as well, it would be wise for him to be working on steps towards having something ready to go on that front. For example, I can see the guy putting together an album of songs he can present to the WWE as a way to market him outside the usual wrestling context. WWE will find him even more attractive as a signing if he’s able to have a measure of crossover appeal, no matter how niche it is or whatever. He’s also got value as a guy who can have the bodyguard, which gets a jacked up guy they see value in on TV in a credible spot as well. And he can have that heel tag team as his lackeys that provide them with a bit of direction. The hit it would be to AEW and further incentive for talent to choose WWE over them is going to be worth it for them. |
I’ll also add that if Warner Bros Discovery gets sick of having wrestling occupying time on their networks, they might take an even greater hit in terms of exposure by 2024. I can understand why some talent might want to be out by then.
|
I actually think that you have some valid points about AEW, Khan and the mistakes they are making. AEW is a mess. They should have a busy and exciting main event scene with the names and talent they have under contract, but somehow they are underutilizing almost every single one of them. Punk and Bryan were the most popular wrestlers in the world at one stage, and they have been atrocious since coming in. They have wasted so much potential.
What I don’t get is the constant painting of WWE in a positive light. They have the name and reputation, sure, but their product is arguably worse than AEW and their prime show is unwatchable. I don’t get why you are so severe on AEW, but let WWE off the hook. Their acts are so much staler than those in AEW. I can only imagine an 100 million lead in to Raw getting to watch Happy Corbin, Doloh Ziggler and the most tired stable in wrestling, New Day, aiding them navigate 3 hours of trash. All the same problems exist. As an example, instead of giving us a compelling New Day break up that could have elevated two guys into an intriguing world title feud, they just half ass it and keep them together because the guys enjoy it and it sells merch. The reunion would sell the merch too, give us the story first! There is no compelling TV, there is no selling or psychology, and there is nothing to make you want to care about the story, but it goes for both companies. They are both making the same mistakes. Great matches was never what wrestling was about, and it wasn’t why the majority of people tuned in. Austin’s best run came at his most immobile because the story and the character had people hooked and gave us a true star. It’s the stories and the stars and it always was. I think that fact is lost to both companies. |

EIGHT posts in a row. Oof. Could be an all-time record.

Actually it was about 7 and a half hours ago. You’re getting desperate for a W and embarrassing yourself again. Wanna talk about it?
|
LOL no, you are clearly referring to the "number of posts made in a row" comment, which evidently stuck in your craw, so much so that you couldn't WAIT to redirect it at somebody else
Why did that bother you so much that you are now trying to play it off after bringing it back up anyways? |
