Bill Goldberg vs Brock Lesner Dream Match

Jim Ross was asked on Twitter about the possibility of a match pitting Brock Lesnar against Bill Goldberg at next year’s WrestleMania.

“@Goldberg vs Lesnar at WM29 would be miraculous ie HIGHLY UNLIKELY,” he tweeted.

Goldberg, despite his displeasure for WWE and company head Vince McMahon over the years, says he’s interested in the bout. He wrote Friday, “……I’d do it.”

Goldberg last competed for WWE at WrestleMania XX in a match against Lesnar with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin serving as special guest referee. The match garnered a hostile reaction from the audience due to knowledge that both competitors were leaving the promotion. After Goldberg defeated Lesnar, both wrestlers were met with a Stone Cold Stunner.

Meanwhile, Goldberg still apparently views Chris Jericho in a negative light nine years after the two last worked together. A fan wrote to the former wrestling champion Monday, “Y2J sucks u should have came out there & speared him.” He responded, “Would have been my pleasure.”

Could it be possible? Could WWE build up Goldberg like WCW had, and make this one of the most epic matches in sports entertainment?

Goldberg has continually said he was interested in one more match, so has Lesner.

Could there be a 3 way match? Stone Cold vs Goldberg vs Lesner, in revenge for the stunners so long ago? Stone Cold has expressed interest in one more match, with such big men, this could be the perfect match.

Your Thoughts.

Corporate CockSnogger 01-06-2012 03:56 PM

Emperor Smeat 01-06-2012 04:07 PM

Nah it wouldn't be any good and just end up taking up a spot that could be used for a better developed or promoted match at Mania.

I think cost-wise, Goldberg still is asking for a lot of money which is why not even TNA managed to bring him to their shows.

I thought the crowd hated the first match more because of how boring and half-assed it was than the wrestlers actually leaving the company.

Yeah, can't say I'd give a rat's ass about Goldberg. He was just a talentless hack who believed his own hype.

And he shouldn't talk shit about Jericho. Chris beat his ass once, he'll do it again. :)

ace3025 01-06-2012 06:42 PM

Goldberg is my personal favorite, mainly because I stated watching right before the nWo formed and I watched his popularity and streak (as bloated as it was) get insane.

but there's no way I would ever want to see Lesnar and Goldberg face each other again. The match sucked, and showed just how little they both cared.
Lesnar can be worth money because of his UFC endeavours, but theres nothing that can resurect peoples interest in Goldberg. He's been gone too long, and done WAY too little to keep himself relevant.

And if WWE just has to have a "goldberg" character, they could easily repackage Mason Ryan or Skip Sheffield into an undeafeted, unstoppable, drooling, squash monster

TheAdamEvansFan 01-06-2012 06:50 PM

Has there been a wrestler since Goldberg that people chanted for before he came out, and continued until the match began?

I know we get Cena chants and counter chants during the match, but I'm thinking like to this magnitude. I remember as a kid, it was astonishing.

I'm a huge mark of Bill Goldberg, sleeping in my local mall to get the first autograph.

And I believe he has remained relevant, he has hosted and co hosted countless shows that just catch the interest of a different selection of people just like Lesner has.

If WWE makes films, I'm sure they could set the tide for a great showdown vs the two, or even putting Austin in as the 3rd man....

I HATE the idea of Taker wrestling again... I mean, seriously. TRIPLE H AGAIN? Taker can't even wrestle, his character is stale... Atleast Kane finally got repackaged.

Jura 01-06-2012 06:57 PM

If it will be entertaining then why not? I'm not really a fan of either Goldburns or Lesnar but if WWE can pull something off then good deal.

Doing stuff and doing stuff that matters is quite different in terms of staying relevant

Lesnar dominated the WWE, and then went out and dominated the UFC. This is drastically more relevant than hosting "Bullrun" and failing out on "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader", and lets not forget "Santa's Sley".

Rammsteinmad 01-06-2012 07:30 PM

By dominated, I assume you're not talking about losing his first fight, and then getting thrashed in his last two?

ace3025 01-06-2012 07:35 PM

Dominated as in almost making himself a hulk hogan of UFC. He started bad and due to health issues lost it at the end. But he took off like a rocket. For a good while there, he was unbeatable and his presence plaster the already rising sport, along with his name, all over the media. Brock Lesnar WAS UFC for a while.

To rise to the top of both aveunes the way he did qualifies as dominating

Savio 01-06-2012 07:41 PM

I dont think they can top their last match

Heard this loads of times in regards to Nash and that.

I think everyone underestimates the intelligence of a kid watching wrestling.

When I first started watching in 98 I still knew who Andre the Giant, Warrior, Rick Rude, etc were, and its even easier now with Youtube and stuff like that.

Everyone knew who Bret Hart was when he came back, Goldberg is at least as big a name as him.

Nicky Fives 01-06-2012 07:57 PM

It didn't work out well the first time, and I doubt it would work out well the second time.....

Schlomey 01-06-2012 07:58 PM

If the WWE built it up correctly and reminded (taught) the audience that Goldberg/Lesnar existed it could be freaking huge. Good? Probably not as good. But it would add a big featured match probably similar in size to Hart vs McMahon. Not in quality but in size.

After watching that match again..... no

TheAdamEvansFan 01-07-2012 09:50 AM

Oh Please...

Blame the Writers, not the Wrestlers..

I'm sure they didn't even plan out that match, or put any thought into anything about it since it was their last.

The idea of that final match was for them to look bad and Stone Cold to get the last word.

But in reality, Stone Cold Steve Austin is just as much of a shitty if not shittier wrestler than Bill Goldberg, except he swears, flicks people off, and drinks beer on Television, not much of a role model for young kids.

Let's not forget the roid rage and beating up Debra.

Bill Goldberg could be brought back correctly, throw the security back on, make a story on the megatron of his past and rise in WCW, and his HUNGER for revenge against Lesner and Austin, and bring it down to have a 3 way match in 2013 WM.

ace3025 01-07-2012 10:02 AM

You can blame the writers for bulding the feud without Goldberg even being there cause of "suspension". But Im pretty sure there was an interview with Goldberg where he talked about that match and he even said that neither of them really cared because they were leaving.

And HHH would rather job to a rookie every RAW for the rest of his career than bring Goldberg back. And even if he did theres no way he would invest the time and money in the story to rebuild his hype.

Rammsteinmad 01-07-2012 04:40 PM

To be fair, the build to that match was pretty awesome. I remember everyone on here going crazy when they both brawled at No Way Out leading up to 'Mania. And if that was any indication of the match, we were all pretty excited to see it.

I always put the shittiness of the match down to how it was booked. Everyone wanted to see these two monsters come out and tear each other apart. So when we got ten minutes of growling and 'evenly matched' encounters, it kinda killed the flow of the match.

Teachers' Corner: French teacher uses WWE in the classroom

January 4, 2012

WWE.com's Teachers' Corner is a place for educators to share their stories about how they use WWE as a tool in their classrooms. Stay tuned to Teachers' Corner for more information on the upcoming WrestlMania Reading Challenge and to read teachers' stories about how WWE has helped their students succeed.
Teachers' Corner recently received a letter from an educator in France who uses WWE DVDs to help teach students English:
Hi!

I’m an English teacher from France.

Last month I was explaining to my five students (17-21 years old) how to pay tribute in English. We used DVDs from the first SmackDown after 9/11 and the Raw Tribute Show to Eddie Guerrero. The lesson was very emotional. Watching thousands of people singing “USA” was something they’ve never seen before. They definitely loved it!

Some of the French students are young WWE fans, so at the beginning of the lesson they had some fun guessing the names of the wrestlers appearing. At the end of the hour they told me that was the most interesting course they’ve ever attended.

Seriously? Sure he's no Angle or Hart or... that other guy who never existed... but he was notably better than Goldberg. Look at Austin's time as The Ringmaster. Shitty gimmick, but the wrestling he put out was solidly average.

For the record, average is better than anything Greenberg ever did in the ring.

Sting Fan 01-08-2012 03:37 AM

Goldbergs pretty under rated in ring tbh.

He was sent out there night after night to demolish jobbers in short order and no sell anything short a tank with the odd true opponent thrown in... Not exactly a great way to show off your ring work.

Thanks to WrestlingINC.com reader Michael Mize for sending in these results from last night's house show at The Oil Palace in Tyler, TX:

I was at the house show for RAW in Tyler, Texas. I took two students from my school, where I am the principal. One of the security guards got the head of security with WWE to come over and see if John Cena would meet the students, one of whom is in a wheelchair. I was overly impressed with Cena coming out and introducing himself to our group. He gave the handicapped student a signed ball cap and a wristband and asked for pictures to be taken. I know he takes a lot of heat, but he made these kids dreams come true.

As far as the show, Miz came out mouthing about taking the belt from CM Punk. R-Truth came from the crowd and jumped him. Otunga came out and asked R-Truth to leave to the dismay of the crowd.

Match 1 - Bella Twins came out as guest ring announcers and Santino Marrella was the guest referee between Beth Phoneix and Eve Torres. Beth Phoenix won the match. Plenty of comedy from Santino.

Match 2 - Michael McGuillicutty and Antonio Cesaro vs. Mason Ryan and Alex Riley. Ryan and Riley won by pinfall.

Match 3 - US title match: Zack Ryder vs. Jack Swagger. Ryder got a huge pop and won by pinfall.

Lights went out and Jericho appeared with a blinking lighted jacket. He did the same stunt he did on Raw. He did grab the mic but Otunga came out and threatened to sue him because of his jacket and that it could cause seizures. Jericho took the jacket off then blasted him in the head with the mic. Then he left to a huge ovation.

Intermission

Match 4 - WWE Tag team championship: Air Boom vs. Epico and Primo. Epico and Primo seemingly won the match and were given the belts, but the match was restarted because Kofi had his leg on the ropes and they ended up winning the match. Very exciting high flying match.

Match 5 - John Cena vs. Kane. Cena got a huge pop. Nobody sat down the entire match. Kane hit Cena with a chair causing a DQ and left Cena laying and left the ring. When the announcer said Cena won, Kane went back in the ring where he was hit with an AA from Cena and the crowd went nuts.

Match 6 - WWE championship: CM Punk vs. The Miz. Punk got a huge ovation. Miz drew great heat from the audience, but he did not mock the facilities or Texas which usually draws cheap heat. This was a good technical wrestling match. Punk won by pinfall. R-Truth came back in and jumped Miz. He had a stare down with Punk and then extended his hand. They shook hands and R-Truth raised his hand as the champ. Big pop for both of them. Truth left and Punk shook everyone's hands and was ery appreciative of the fans.
I will say as a lifelong wrestling fan that there is not the same electricity in the building anymore. Back in the Attitude era, there would be so many fights between fans there and the matches would be deafening. It is just not the same. I am not trying to take away from the young guys because I know they bust their tails, but the raw emotion of the matches is not there anymore for me. One guy behind me told his friend that he could never be a fan again until they get rid of the PG stuff. One highlight for me tonight was that I was able to see a lifetime hero of mine, "Double A" Arn Anderson. I enjoy reading the site.

Watching Impact. Can you tell there's no Match of the Day tonight?

Sting says Jeff Hardy has proven himself on his second chance. Isn't this his 60th chance or so?

Rude says he's going to throw up and says Jeff is an embarrassment. I like this guy.

Got Kurt on his side too.

Has Abyss ever been TNA champ? Feel like he should for sticking around so damn long.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-08-2012 04:15 PM

Abyss just accidentally spat all over Bully Ray while talking. Aw, all Abyss needs is Bully Ray. How sweet.

Knockouts pool fight. Not a good enough view of Madison. Lame.

Yeah, he has. He won the tile via DISQUALIFICATION over Sting, and they had a little feud.

Mickie James

Actually forgot she was damn good in the ring too.

Oh fuck off Ric Flair. Talking to some bearded dude.

UK viewers can win a dinner with Velvet Sky. I bet she's unfortunately not that easy.

Yes but it was when TNA still had the NWA association or pre-debut of the TNA championship.

Was about to want Kaz and AJ to win this tag tournament final just so fat Joe didn't win, but his partner spoke with an English accent so I'm now torn.

Some referee is now a wrestler. I don't follow.

Eric Young kicked out of the girls locker room with a lot of annoying squealing.
