the eliminator

actually, they should just make the teams do the eliminator.

Game 163 or Wild Card Game. Only the winner can say they are a playoff team.

OssMan 09-28-2014 10:54 AM

Looks like this season is going to end with 0 full games watched on TV by me.. 2 games attended and watched.. we'll see what happens in the playoffs.. over/under for that is a surprising 5.5

Game 163 is already a thing. The playoffs have been expanded to include this round. I don't get your disdain for this.

screech 09-28-2014 11:15 AM

When I first heard about it, I was skeptical. But it gives us a chance to see more meaningful games.

ClockShot 09-28-2014 02:39 PM

In case you missed it, D-Backs hire Dave Stewart as their new GM and Senior Vice President. They also fired manager Kirk Gibson and bench coach Alan Trammell.

Jesus, that organization is a mess.

Evil Vito 09-28-2014 02:55 PM

Nice moment from the Mets. Allowed Bobby Abreu to get the start in his final day as a big leaguer and then pulled him after a hit and received a standing O. He killed the Mets for years as a member of the Phillies, but gotta appreciate a great career.

Vito and I were joking the other day:

Dave Duncan, manager

Mark McGwire, hitting coach

Jose Canseco, 3rd base/outfield positioning coach

Evil Vito 09-28-2014 03:39 PM

Jordan Zimmermann closes out the season with a no-hitter against the Marlins, who threw a no-no to end last season.

Evil Vito 09-28-2014 03:46 PM

2013: Marlins throw no-hitter to end the year
2014: Nationals throw no-hitter against Marlins to end the year
2015: Mets vs. Nationals final day :)

OssMan 09-28-2014 03:50 PM

watched approx 4 innings of jordan zimmermann's no hitter

Evil Vito 09-28-2014 04:08 PM

Mets finish 79-83 and in 2nd place. You know what, as unbelievably frustrating as they were in May and June when they tanked away their playoff hopes early, they showed a lot of fight in the second half. Overall, a lot more good than bad has come out of this season.

Emperor Smeat 09-28-2014 04:59 PM

:-\ Red Sox lost the final game of the season. Miserable season but at least record-wise it wasn't 2012 bad.

Droford 09-28-2014 05:13 PM

I'm probably going to game 1 of the ALDS Thursday. spend some of my gambling winnings this year on an overpriced nosebleed seat on stub hub..yay

screech 09-28-2014 05:26 PM

Totally worth it, though.

Evil Vito 09-28-2014 05:36 PM

A's break it open in the top of the 9th, looks like there will be no Game 163 :(

It should be Tillman vs Verlander

ClockShot 09-28-2014 06:27 PM

Yankees hang tight and grab 2nd place in the AL East. Just get above .500.

Better season than last year. Injuries were way down, but the pitching staff exploded. Kuroda being the only stalwart throughout the entire season.

Innovator 09-28-2014 06:50 PM

Stupid Red Sox fans giving Jeter standing ovation when he left the game, made my dust allergy flare up

Droford 09-29-2014 10:57 AM

josh reddick is a bit to excited for clinching a wild card after the team just tanked the last 2 1/2 months.

Evil Vito 09-29-2014 02:12 PM

Twins fire Ron Gardenhire. Going to be weird to see a new manager in Minnesota.

ClockShot 09-29-2014 05:59 PM

Astros hire A.J. Hinch to be their new manager.

DaveWadding 09-29-2014 10:42 PM

Ron Gardenhire can come manage the DBacks any time. Also, there is no worse choice for major league manager than AJ Hinch. Houston will remain hilariously bad.

Dammit. Game 2 Tigers @ Orioles is at noon on Friday. Why do you do this to me, baseball gods.

Evil Vito 09-30-2014 09:24 AM

Day games during the week for the playoffs seems really stupid.

road doggy dogg 09-30-2014 09:25 AM

Might come in early and take a long lunch to catch most of the game at a bar

The Fraze 09-30-2014 11:57 AM

Elimination games are our "thing." Hopefully that carries over from 2012.

Nark Order 09-30-2014 12:08 PM

Go team that is in close proximity to where I live.

Here’s hoping Detroit finally takes it all, but getting past Baltimore in the A.L.D.S. could take all 5 games, seeing how good they were in the regular season.

I know, I know...this is the post-season now and nothing in the regular season matters anymore, but if the Tigers and O’s regular seasons were any indication at all of how their A.L.D.S. encounter might turn out, I’m worried for Detroit.

screech 09-30-2014 12:46 PM

Need a team to root for this postseason. But which one???

road doggy dogg 09-30-2014 01:53 PM

Detroit Baseball Tigers #1

Guess that could be teams. Can't imagine traffic in this area with all world series games here though, would be so awful.

it'll actually be @ 3 pm if the Pirates win the wild card. its noon if the giants win because the NLDS game with the Nationals can't start at noon east with a west coast team since that would start at 9am out there.

Sunday is a 3:45 start in Detroit definite, which is perfect because the Ravens game will be just about over.

Droford 09-30-2014 08:39 PM

lol KC runs themselves out of the inning. derp

Really? Damn I just saw a link on Mlive.com (Michigan website) that said 12:07 or w/e, I assumed that was set in stone.

3:00 would kinda suck, too late to take lunch and too early to duck out of work early. Dammit even more.

Evil Vito 09-30-2014 09:38 PM

Just pull a page out of Opening Day tradition: call in sick
