God imagine how amazing this would have been if they had been able to keep AJ's signing a secret. I mean, with his contract being up in New Japan, and the Rumble being in Orlando, people may have suspected a little bit but it still would have been an insanely shocking moment. As cool as it was, you kinda knew he was coming out tonight.

Hate dirtsheets sometimes. Moments like this kind of make me wanna go completely dark on wrestling and stop coming here and stop reading the sheets, but I love you all too much to deprive you of my magnificent presence.

Blue Demon 01-25-2016 02:24 AM

Found it kinda silly that K.O limped to the ring....then as soon as he got near it, it was as if his injury miraculously disappeared.

Fignuts 01-25-2016 02:28 AM

Selling is hard

He was suckering people in. Making them think he was hurt.

This Royal Rumble was a great damn show.

The opening match with Ambrose and Owens was brutal, fitting their styles so well. Even better was how Owens sold it in the actual Rumble match.

Tag team match was ehh.

Del Rio vs. Kalisto was really fun. Great to see them giving the ball to Kalisto to run with.

Divas match was really good. I need a Flair kissing Becky gif. Awesome match between the two. Sasha coming out and show no allegiance was fucking awesome.

It was a solid fucking Rumble match. We kind of all knew what was going to happen, but the AJ debut was fucking gold. Owens eliminating him was the best thing. Wish Ambrose would have won to set something unexpected up though.

It was damn good.

I'm wondering if they'll let him use it at all because if they were going to, there was no reason for him not to hit it. It's a dangerous move and WWE are definitely going to be aware of it going wrong in the past. I thought at first it was maybe some people's "unfamiliarity" with the move in terms of taking it (Jericho etc) but when he got Neville up for it (who he's wrestled more than once) and still didn't hit it, it felt like it was just a tease because he has no other "recognized finish" and that once he actually wrestles, he'll use something new or different. Seeing him do that springboard forearm in a WWE ring was something tho.

Fignuts 01-25-2016 04:36 AM

I dunno They teased it too much not to use it at all. Cole even mentioned it by name. Like I said, I think they didn't want to give everything away on Styles, and are saving it for his raw debut or something. It's not a bad idea.

CSL 01-25-2016 04:36 AM

and total fantasy booking but if Daniel Bryan was cleared this past week in Pittsburgh and they held him out of the Rumble for whatever reason, wouldn't it be just delightful if he showed up on RAW and they go with him as AJ's first PPV opponent

yeah maybe. It just doesn't seem convenient enough for WWE. He's never ever been in a company like WWE where he's one of the smallest guys, he instantly looked "normal" next to Reigns and even Tyler Breeze. Simple fact is is that you can't sell his finish to an audience when he can't do it to like 50% of the roster. I mean, look how awkward it looked when they teased it with Roman. If he uses it, I think it's more of a "special attraction" thing where you see it every now and again.

I havent watched a PPV in about 3 years But I would pay for that in a heartbeat.

At this stage I cant see myself buying WM this year again. Makes me a bit sad tbh :wavesad:

broverboard 01-25-2016 08:02 AM

I really enjoyed the show.

Great undercard and the people on the undercard all looked good.

Would I have preferred someone else to win? personally yes, but as with all Rumbles (and most PPV's) there are always very few people you expect to win so I'm neither surprised or disappointed.

With some of the feuds that look like they're coming out of the Rumble (and some fantasy booking on my part), I feel this is the year the "special attractions" and veterans should be used to put over the new talent.

Bray over Brock
Reigns (with Rock) over HHH (with Vince)
Ambrose over John Cena
Owens over Taker
Kalisto over heel Y2J (it's clear they want to push Kalisto)

Throw in a MitB ladder match with AJ Styles winning after interference from a debuting Bullet Club and you've got some new, unseen storylines.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 08:31 AM

I imagine they'll probably just have Styles do the Bloody Sunday with the Styles Clash being used for special occasions.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 08:38 AM

I've got no clue how they fit Kalisto and The Undertaker into WrestleMania. There's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

Do they pair up Taker & Kane to take on The Wyatt Family? Does Taker go off with Sheamus -- a reasonably big guy that can work and they want to plug into the main event scene? Do they just do Taker vs. Kane for the feels?

Kalisto could lose the US Title to someone on the Road to WrestleMania, but provided he doesn't, who is their best bet to put him against? Do they send in someone like Neville or AJ Styles to get the best match possible out of him? Does Stardust plug in here as a great character performer to bounce Kalisto off? Do they do some sort of Mask vs. Hair Match against Del Rio? Pay Rey Mysterio a lot of money to come back? Toss a bunch of guys into a Ladder Match?

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 08:41 AM

I'm not convinced that John Cena is going to miss WrestleMania to be honest.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 08:45 AM

* Triple H (c) vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

* Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt

* The Undertaker vs. John Cena

* Charlotte (c) vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch for the Divas Championship

* Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship

* The New Day (c) vs. The Usos vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger

* Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

* The League of Nations vs. AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Kalisto & Neville

* Kickoff: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Or something like that.

Big Vic 01-25-2016 09:29 AM

I feel like Kalisto will be getting pinned quite often now that he is US champ.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 09:30 AM

He might even lose it back to Del Rio on RAW.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 09:31 AM

Can anyone else see them adding a Hell in a Cell stipulation to Triple H vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania? You know -- just to give it that extra oomph?

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 09:32 AM

If Roman Reigns wins, he's the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and The Authority disappear.

Evil Vito 01-25-2016 09:33 AM

What made the ending of the match fall flat in my opinion is that they completely forgot the context of what was supposed to be happening. Triple H comes out, and do they sell it as the COO abusing his power to his own nefarious ends? Do they speculate about the fact that the most powerful man in the company drew the best number? Do they talk about how it's obviously a set-up? No, Michael Cole continues his bizarre gimmick for this show of being utterly obsessed with how many Royal Rumbles someone's been in. Rather than all of the storyline-centric comments that I just listed, Michael Cole's reaction to Triple H entering the Rumble is "HE'S BEEN IN NINE ROYAL RUMBLES!".

I expected they'd play up some dissension between Reigns and Ambrose on the "every man for himself!" front, and was genuinely surprised that they didn't, and by the manner of Reigns getting eliminated. That was fun. Ambrose wrestling Triple H was sloppy as hell, though, really ugly stuff.

But now, let's go back to context. Why was Triple H in the match? His end-goal wasn't to become WWE Champion, it was to stop Roman Reigns from becoming champion. Anyone else, practically, would have been preferable. Given the match's earlier history of outside interference, it's clear that Triple H could have screwed over Reigns without entering the match himself. Even if you accept that Triple H had to enter the match to attain his goal, when his target, and only real concern, is Roman Reigns, then why bother dicking around with Dolph Ziggler? And - context again - when we've just seen The Miz sit outside the ring and pick his spots, why wouldn't Triple H do the same? And then, once Reigns is out, why wouldn't he just get back in and help his best friend? You could argue fair play, but surely it's acceptable revenge for the guy who almost certainly orchestrated an assault on Reigns specifically designed to take him out of the match?

So what we end up with is, because of the announcers' inability to sell the story of the feud, and the context-blind booking, Triple H winning clean. We're supposed to think that Triple H screwed Reigns out of the match and be chomping at the bit for Reigns to get revenge, but Triple H didn't do anything wrong. He entered the match as a legal entrant, and eliminated Reigns well within the rules of the match. Not only that, but Triple H was returning from injury and eliminating the guy who put him on the shelf - that's a babyface performance. On top of that, Reigns sat out half the match only to come in later to try and win - admittedly through no fault of his own (arguably - he was capable of walking out) - and that was something we had, only minutes earlier, been encouraged to resent The Miz doing. Context.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 09:37 AM

Great post. :y:

Triple H wasn't playing slimy boss here. And you're right -- he didn't need to win the Royal Rumble to achieve his goal. Arguably, given what they obviously plan to do for WrestleMania, Bray Wyatt should have won this thing.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 09:38 AM

And I'm not saying that as a huge Bray Wyatt mark either. It just would have made sense given the context of everything.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2016 09:39 AM

* Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

* Triple H vs. Roman Reigns in a Street Fight

That works better than what they're going with, in my opinion.

drave 01-25-2016 09:42 AM

The last paragraph really hits it on the head.

When Reigns was escorted out for "injury" that did it for me, I walked away and didn't care that HHH was going to win. The highlight of the rumble for me was Styles.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-25-2016 09:42 AM

The Rumble was OK but the main plot points they wanted to book were stupid as fuck. Vince doesn't learn 17 years later that you eliminate someone before they're taken to the hospital. They don't want Brock to be an aggressive monster anymore even if he faces injustice and the one time they turned a crowd that was booing Reigns to one that cheers him was when he was pissed off and destroying the Authority. So when he's thrown out he just sits there and looks sad rather than beat up HHH and help his buddy or even beat up HHH after he wins.

Yea, I would NOT want to be on the receiving end of anything Lesnar, let alone a big flying knee at full speed.

He hits with such an unmatched intensity, it was very noticeable last night when he was shoulder to shoulder with the other jabronis.

Big Vic 01-25-2016 09:48 AM

Brock should have at least came back in to F5 Bray Wyatt.

Nicky Fives 01-25-2016 09:52 AM

I liked the show, but my only problem was why would Vince have The League Of Nations destroy Reigns at ringside (illegally) and then just leave him there instead of destroying him, rolling him back in and having someone easily throw his lifeless body over the ropes to officially eliminate him..... I'm certain no one in the crowd or watching bought that Reigns wouldn't be coming back, just lazy booking in my eyes.... LON & Vince had enough heat.....

she was never in a position where she had to do it to somebody bigger than her, she'd never "famously" hurt people with it, she had way more "political stroke" and WWE, even 5/6 years ago, was a completely different company to what it is now. We should find out tonight if it's going to be his finish or not I'd think
