Ultimate Fighter Season 9 - USA vs UK announced

During the broadcast of last nights Fight Night 15 event in Omaha Nebraska, the details of the ninth season of the “Ultimate Fighter” reality series were released, and a huge surprise was in store.

The season, which is due to air early next year, will pit welterweights and middleweights against each other as teams of US and UK fighters battle it out to decide who will be the next breakthrough star.

Early reports suggest that UK middleweight Michael Bisping could be lined up to coach the UK team against a top American middleweight, with the winner gaining a title shot at the end of 2009.

Switching it up a little bit..

I like it..

Funny but sad..

Rob 09-19-2008 05:17 PM

Some people are gonna be humbled after the next TUF season. Either we'll find out Britain has some legit fighters here (other than Bisping) or we'll get humbled.

I'm thinking the former. At BJJ last night, the coaches were already talking up the idea of intense training for a couple of guys for try outs. And there aren't many better submission guys out there right now than Roger Gracie.

Innovator 09-19-2008 05:41 PM

How fucking dumb is Guida's brother?

Kris P Lettus 09-19-2008 05:47 PM

I don't feel sorry for him at all.. He knew what weight he'd be fighting at and still came in that out of shape.. He should've been cutting weight the weeks coming into it knowing that he'd fight within the first 48 hours of being there..

Innovator 09-19-2008 05:58 PM

Yeah it wasn't like any of the guys were in the dark about fighting onto the show this season

The weird looking guy was right, he should have been sleeping in his sauna suit. No excuse for that.

Browning looks legit though

Reavant 09-19-2008 05:59 PM

I feel sorry for him hes a pretty cool guy... dumb i guess but a good guy none the less

Kris P Lettus 09-19-2008 06:05 PM

I love Clay and prolly would've been a fan of his too, but I can not respect someone who knows this is their only shot and is in a position that thousands of other guys wish they were in, only to throw it away by not being properly prepared..

Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Preformance

Innovator 09-19-2008 06:26 PM

Holy aliteration Batman

Rob 09-19-2008 07:07 PM

None of the fighters were told they'd be fighting to get into the house. They were however told to make sure they were at a certain weight before they showed up and apparently Jason Guida was at that weight. Bottom line is he just didn't cut the weight.

I am kinda interested to see how Tom Lawlor does on the show.

Innovator 09-19-2008 07:33 PM

Is he light heavy or lightweight?

Kris P Lettus 09-19-2008 07:39 PM

That's bullshit, Rob..

They said during season 7 that every season from then on, you were going to have to fight your way into the house.. He is a 205 fighter who came in double digits overweight..

Rob 09-19-2008 07:53 PM

How is it bullshit? They were not told they would be fighting to get in the house. They weren't told they wouldn't be either. Tom Lawlor said on BTR this week he wasn't told he was fighting and Jason Guida also said he wasn't told. They should have known though but they still weren't told.

And your math is fucked dude. Guida weighed in 2lbs overweight. 1lbs officially. Other fighters came into the gym 10lbs+ overweight but they cut it. Guida didn't and that's the bottom line. I don't give a fuck if they walk in the building 50lbs overweight and then make weight. You know you have to make weight and some guys are better at it than others. In his defence, you also get two attempts to weigh in for a fight in Nevada and he only got one attempt. Technically he was pulled from fighting and not because he didn't make weight. Also technically Gomi vs. Diaz was a no contest but we all know what really happened.

Kris P Lettus 09-19-2008 08:04 PM

Diaz smokes the weed..

He was 11lbs over when he first started cutting.. Dude also I don't care how much over they come in if they can make the weight.. He dug his own grave by coming in over and not being able to.. He is a 205lbs fighter and should have showed up closer to that weight.. The fact that he didn't is what ultimately caused him to leave.. Pretty much threw away an opportunity thousands of guys would die for.. They might not have been specifically told, but last season Dana White made it crystal clear that he was tried of guys quitting and whatnot so they were gonna have to fight their way onto the show from there on out..

Atleast it was clear to me, even if Jason Guida didn't "get it"..

Rob 09-19-2008 08:22 PM

Clearer to me too. Just stating the facts.

Here's another one - Jason Guida = Fucking idiot! Oh and he has signed with EliteXC. Seriously!

Kris P Lettus 09-19-2008 08:25 PM

lol

Where had he fought before cause guys were saying he was a good fighter before Season 8, but I had never seen him..

Rob 09-19-2008 08:57 PM

For the record, Bobby Southworth cut weight from 228lbs to 206lbs on season 1 and he won his fight. That's DOUBLE the amount of weight Guida had to cut.

Innovator 09-19-2008 11:13 PM

Yeah I was just thinking of Bobby reading an earlier post, 22 in a day and a half is crazy

Vastardikai 09-20-2008 02:51 AM

Well, KJ Noons was officially stripped of the WWEliteXC Diaz-weight Championship, for mainly not wanting to defend his title against Diaz.

Noons is an asshole for not fighting Diaz, regardless of the issues he has with the company (Paid ALOT less than Diaz, not being promoted as a star). But in the end he may come out as the winner of it all with this happening. I can see them putting Diaz in a fight with Yves Edwards, and I would laugh because it's the battle of two people Noons beat for the title they stripped him of. It makes a weak assed WWEliteXC look even worse, IMO.

Rob 09-20-2008 06:27 AM

He was paid less because Diaz is a star and nobody outside of the hardcore fans has a clue who the hell KJ Noons is. He is a total homo for refusing the biggest fight of his life too. Fuck him. Best of luck in your boxing career pal. Don't get upset when the boxing people can't stand you either when you're pleady poverty with them.

RP 09-20-2008 08:44 AM

I dont care if he was winning the first fight with Diaz. If it wasnt stopped from a cut to his head, i'm positive Diaz would have knocked him out. Diaz can take a beating.

Rob 09-20-2008 12:30 PM

It doesn't matter if he near killed him. The biggest fight out there for KJ Noons is a rematch with Nick Diaz. He refused the biggest fight of his career which would have been aired live on network TV. And he wonders why nobody knows him. Fucking idiot of a human being.

Kris P Lettus 09-20-2008 01:05 PM

Noons is a fucking idiot..

UFC added some fights to both the 90 and 91 cards..

Update on the WWEliteXC Diaz-Weight Division.

Rumor is that it could be Diaz vs. Alvarez fighting for the title that was stripped from KJ Noons.

Fun Fact: Noons offered a name of someone he would rather fight than Diaz. It was.... Alvarez.

Just to follow up on the whole concept, we all know Bisping is rumored to be the Team UK coach if he gets through Leban, the rumored coach for the US is Dan Hendo Henderson.

Personally I can't see Bisping out coaching Hollywood Henderson.

Rob 09-21-2008 07:09 PM

I didn't see Chuck Liddell out coaching Randy Couture either but it happened. I heard it would be Henderson too but I wouldn't be surprised if Bisping is next in line for a title shot if he beats Chris Leben so I don't know why you'd face him against Henderson first if that is the case.

Anderson Silva to "retire" next year..

http://mma.fanhouse.com/2008/09/21/u...ire-next-year/

So after TUF 10, Henderson vs Bisping will be for the vacated title??

I'll go on record now as calling Silva's bluff.. I just can't see him walking away and better yet, I can't see Dana White letting him..

Cuban and HDnet has bought the IFL for $650k.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/hdn...fl-buyer-14546
Quote:

Mark Cuban’s HDNet channel has emerged as the frontrunner for all of the remaining assets of the International Fight League, which filed for bankruptcy Sept. 15.

Forms were filed Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission requesting that the publicly owned IFL be given permission to sell its remaining assets to the network. The forms also requested that HDNet be given every consideration as a potential buyer as the IFL’s assets go to the auction block through Oct. 23.

HDNet has offered a buying price of $650,000 for all intellectual property, including the IFL’s film, video and image library; its five-roped competition ring and team trademarks; and proprietary rights, including its web site. The proposed transaction also includes any remaining broadcast contracts the IFL acquired during its two-year tenure, which includes a deal with Fox Sports Network.

HDNet Fights broadcasts a multitude of MMA events, including Strikeforce, Affliction and Japan's Dream promotion. The company’s CEO, Andrew Simon, was not immediately available for comment.

The IFL promoted 23 events in 24 months and spotlighted notable fighters like Ben Rothwell, Chris Horodecki, Jay Hieron and Rory Markham. Many of the IFL’s brightest stars have recently signed deals with the UFC, WEC, EliteXC and Affliction Entertainment.

Rob 09-26-2008 12:07 PM

Two questions:

1 - Why the fuck would you buy the IFL? Just wait til it goes into liquidation if you want the tapes that bad. They can't be worth much anyhow.

2 - How did UFC get their footage on their TV previously if they didn't own it?

Barnett Turns Down Fedor

Top-ranked heavyweight Josh Barnett was originally scheduled to fight Andre Arlovksi in the main event of Affliction’s second pay-per-view card, “Day of Reckoning,” before it was postponed due to sagging ticket sales and an impending partnership with boxing promoter Golden Boy Promotions.

Shortly after, Affliction and Golden Boy announced their boxing/MMA hybrid event for Jan. 17 in Anaheim, Calif., to feature No. 1 ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko.

Though it was widely assumed that the Arlovski/Barnett tilt would be moved to the January card, things changed when Affliction inserted Arlovksi and Roy Nelson into EliteXC’s third CBS televised card, “Heat,” on Oct. 4.

Barnett says he was in Japan during the EliteXC announcement, and it didn’t come as good news.

“I was disappointed, yes,” he told MMAWeekly.com. “That was supposed to be my fight. We talked about it at some point prior to going to Japan, and I found out that I didn’t get the fight while in Japan. I continued to work on some business there, especially after I found out I wasn’t getting the fight.”

A fight with Fedor Emelianenko on the Jan. 17 card would seem a logical concession, but Barnett says he has turned it down.

“It would be (logical) for the fans, but the fans don’t understand contracts or the way things have been put down on the back end in terms of the business aspect of it,” he said. “Or the details between both of the fighters. So, it’s not really that we want to rob the fans of something, it’s just that I don’t think it’s possible.”

He maintains his decision is based on personal and business reasons.

“There’s just some times it’s better to keep your mouth shut and just not really talk too much about things,” he said. “I’m not trying to make anybody look bad or talk about the details of it, but it’s just not a fight that’s going to happen in January. And I think that the feeling is actually mutual.”

Barnett met Emelianenko for dinner during his trip to Japan, and the possibility of the fight was discussed. It was there Barnett concluded he would not fight his friend in January.

“There’s a lot of factors that go into this one,” he continued. “It’s not so simple.”

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio now says a Jan. 24 date for the first Affliction/Golden Boy venture is likely, due to the recent announcement of UFC 93 scheduled to take place on the same date in Dublin, Ireland.

“It doesn’t make any sense for us to go head to head with them,” Atencio said.

For Barnett, these things are part of the ups and downs of the fight business.

“Sometimes they’re surprising and sometimes they’re not, but I live for doing this my way and I’m never going to take second best from anyone ever,” he said

He was such a douche picking on Aleks, but is scared of Fedor..

Fuck Josh Barnett..

Probably Kimbo but I'm backing Shamrock. 4-1 underdog in anyfight I'd think about a wager but a guy with Shamrock's experience on the big level against Kimbo severe lack of experience, I can't pass up those odds.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Paul Daley KO's Jake Shields either.

Ken Shamrock has some sort of cut that is putting the Kimbo fight in danger. Frank Shamrock offered to fight with zero training but the comission blocked it. Seth Petruzelli might be taking his spot.

From the Observer site.

I'm picking Kimbo via Ken taking a dive

Rob 10-04-2008 06:56 PM

Apparently they are gonna let Ken fight.

MMA Junkie says the fight is off. Meltzer is saying it's on.

What the fuck?

Ken Shamrock is officially OUT.

Frank Shamrock may actually get the fight now. This could be SOOOOO awesome.

Kimbo refused to fight Seth Petruzelli.

Kimbo is a pussy.

I am seriously so hyped for this show now. This is gonna be the biggest let down in MMA history if they don't let Frank Shamrock fight.

Petruzelli is now being reported as the stand in by MMAJunkie officially?

HeartBreakMan2k 10-04-2008 09:13 PM

Anyone else catch Frank calling Ken out a little at the beginning of the show?

Rob 10-04-2008 09:16 PM

Yeah it was awesome. Frank is money. Ken cut a great promo too.

I am still very much in love with ms Gina Carono, rather she wins or loses.
