terrible pitch. what the hell was he doing

Innovator 05-18-2010 12:00 AM

He was off tonight, I think only one pitch looked like a Papelbon fastball

Emperor Smeat 05-18-2010 12:01 AM

Bard needs to get good as soon as possible. Papelbon tends to have bad outings a few times a year like today (usually against the Twins).

Ever since Papelbon got hurt a few years ago, he refuses to pitch anything besides a fastball.

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 12:07 AM

The Red Sox may not even be a factor this year. Nearly everybody had them ticketed for at least Wild Card but wow have they sucked.

Obviously it's way early but they rarely look THIS shitty.

McLegend 05-18-2010 12:09 AM

Man what a tool A-Rod is with his jumping up and down like a little girl.

SammyG 05-18-2010 01:22 AM

John Ely has been such a stud for us, I love it. Fuck Haeger, release him if Ely is gonna be pitching like this.

SammyG 05-18-2010 01:52 AM

84 consecutive batters faced without giving up a walk, damn.

I don't think they'll continue to play like this. But, if things don't work out soon the Red Sox are gonna have to improve either their hitting or bullpen at the trade deadline, I wonder if they got what it takes to steal away Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres.

Right now they suck but they are gonna do something major if things keep going like this at the trade deadline

Supreme Olajuwon 05-18-2010 12:00 PM

If they wait till the trade deadline they might be 25 games out

Innovator 05-18-2010 12:01 PM

Where is Adrian Gonzalez gonna play on the Red Sox? They have 25 1st basemen already

Supreme Olajuwon 05-18-2010 01:09 PM

Here we go. Marlins skipper Fredi Gonzalez benched Hanley Ramirez last night for not hustling after a ball that Ramirez accidentally kicked into the outfield. Hanley fouled a ball off his shin which probably played a part in his lack of effort, but he stayed in the game. Ramirez refuses to apologize to his teammates and had these two quotes for his manager:

"It's his team. He can do whatever he fucking wants."

"That's OK. He doesn't understand that. He never played in the big leagues."

Oh boy.

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 01:46 PM

Don't really see how Fredi can be faulted for that. Hanley's a bit of a punk.

With some of their off-season moves I wonder if they even care if they tank it. They might just be building for next season. All of their pitching is locked up for the next few season & they have some other contracts coming off the books to offer to FAs next year. If they don't close the gap much by middle of June I don't see them making any moves at the deadline.

Dragon 05-18-2010 02:02 PM

I think during the game yesterday they said the Sox are third in runs scored this year in the majors. It doesn't seem like its their offense. And it doesn't seem like they can do much with their pitching because of how many guys they have locked up. They just need the players they have to play better and guys to get healthy.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-18-2010 02:23 PM

They are that high? Interesting

Maybe I am simply overreacting then. I didn't think the offense was doing too hot. I'm not worried about the pitching, that will right itself. Hopefully it does before they fall too far out of it. They do seem to "match" whatever the other team is doing a lot, like yesterday they scored 10+ when the Yanks score 10+ but then they lose games 2-1, 4-3, etc. I don't have any stats to back this up, just seems to be happening a lot.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-18-2010 02:25 PM

Yeah 3rd in runs scored, 27th in runs allowed.

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 03:47 PM

If for whatever reason the Sox don't climb back into it, I hope the Rays can at least stay this hot throughout the year. We all knew the Yankees were making the playoffs this year barring 2009 Mets-esque injuries, but I'd like to at least see a team challenge them in the division.

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 03:54 PM

Mets have to clear a roster spot tomorrow for R.A. Dickey to make a spot start, sounds like Jenrry Mejia will be shipped off to the minors and begin to be stretched out as a starter. He's been good in the bullpen and I understand why they felt compelled to put him on the Opening Day roster after his great spring, but this is a good move. He's not going to be jerked around anymore, this is a permanent move from the sounds of things. Could see him back up in late June/early July as a starter if the rotation still is having major problems by then.

SammyG 05-18-2010 03:54 PM

Ethier goes on the DL, FUCK

Adder 05-18-2010 03:59 PM

Well he should. That finger needs to heal up properly.

The bullpen is a major issue. Also, even though the offense is producing I really think the lack of a huge offensive threat in the middle of the lineup hurts them.
It may only make a small difference on the surface, but when games are being lost in clutch situations and by small margins it hurts.
It has an impact on the pitching because it would take a lot of pressure off them.

Crapelbon sucks.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-18-2010 05:43 PM

Poor Trevor Hoffman. 5th blown save today. He's gotta be almost done, but Milwaukee doesn't have anyone else to take his place. They are a mess.

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 06:38 PM

Yeah Hoffman is killing my fantasy team. I feel the second I dump him he'll wind up pitching well.

He should probably retire the second he gets to 600.

Hanso Amore 05-18-2010 08:22 PM

Fuck, Here we go, hanley is going to end up on the Sox this season, Im calling it now. He will be traded shortly.

Maybe trade Lowell, put Youk at third and make V-mart a permanent catcher and Ortiz the Permanent DH. And put Adrian at first. Wouldn't that work?

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 10:16 PM

Zambrano's headed back to the rotation. Were the Cubs just bored or something the last 3 weeks?

Evil Vito 05-18-2010 11:19 PM

Jesus. Wright K's in the 9th with 1 out and the go-ahead run on 3rd. His third K on the night. 15 games in a row where he's K'ed. 55 K's this year already (37% of his ABs) and he's on pace for 225.

Then to top it all off, he threw the ball away to end the game. Another Santana start wasted.

Seriously worried about him. His stance has changed so radically and he's just swinging at way too many bad pitches, particularly the ones inside. I want to punch Matt Cain in the face.

V-Mart wouldn't work as the permanent catcher since his defense and throwing runners out is near the bottom of the league for catchers. His offense is good though to help make up for some of his defensive and pitch selection issues.

Varitek still has huge value when catching for young pitchers (Buchholz) and Matsuzaka.

Evil Vito 05-19-2010 12:58 AM

LOL Papelblow's about to fuck it up again
