I found out how much the guys in UFC 81 were getting paid:
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="yspsctnhdln"> UFC 81 Fighters Salaries </td> </tr> <tr> <td height="7"><spacer type="block" height="1" width="1"></td> </tr> </tbody></table> Dann Stupp, MMAjunkie.com February 4, 2008 Despite suffering a first-round submission loss to Frank Mir on Saturday, Brock Lesnar collected a cool quarter-of-a-million dollars in his UFC debut. The former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and World Wrestling Entertainment performer was the highest-paid fighter at UFC 81, according to paperwork acquired by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. UFC 81 took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and aired live on pay-per-view. Mir earned a base salary of $80,00 for the fight -- which was the fourth-highest behind Lesnar and main-event fighters Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ($200,000) and Tim Sylvia ($100,000). The total disclosed payroll for the event was $892,000. The full list of salaries included:
Now, the usual disclaimer: the figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker-room" or special bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. In other words, these are simply base salaries reported to the NSAC and do not represent the total amounts earned by each fighter. For complete coverage of the event, including the list of winners for fight-night bonuses, be sure to check out MMAjunkie.com's UFC 81 archives. And here's the Mazzagatti interview: http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slu...nkie&type=lgns |
Seriously, one man got more than 1/4 of the total salary. This is insane.
|
But, he is a huge draw to alot of people who aren't already fans of the UFC.. It'd be like Floyd Mayweather fighting at a PPV (and getting slaughter)..
|
Lesnar was unproven draw though.
|
As would any proffesional athlete who is not an MMA fighter.. I mean, Kimbo fought Ray Mercer, who was like 44 at the time, and Mercer prolly made better money than all the other fighters on the card.. That ex-NFL WR (can't remember who it was ATM) fought and got destroyed, but I bet he banked on that one fight just because of namesake alone..
:-\ |
Johnny Morton....85 seconds
|
Andrei is going to destroy Jake Obrien... heard it here first haha

Kimbo is gonna destroy Tank in the first minute.. I'd put $100 on it.. |
Urijah Faber is the motherfucking truth..
I wish UFC had a FeatherWeight division.. |
Mirko Filipovic is leaving the UFC and joining a new MMA Promotion by the owner's of K1.

Great..
He'll prolly be overhyped and quite disapointing there also.. |
Saw him fight twice live and twice he got humbled. I'm surprised he even still has marquee value.
|
wait...dont he still have fights left on his contract?
|
So UFC released him out of his contract...ok. That dont make sense. Even tho he's lost twice in a row, he's still a bigger draw then basically everyone in the Heavyweight division aside from Nog. They're sure as hell not resigning Arvolski. Its almost like they want to phase the Heavyweight division out.
|
WTF
No way.. Not with Silvia, Lesnar, Mir, Gonzaga, etc etc etc.. |
You mean, Boring, Unproven, Washed Up and Overated?
|
Oh ya, and none of those guys can draw like Mirko. Maybe Lesnar, but only because of his WWE bs.
|
Kimbo will be the Savior..

I'm talking about current Heavyweights. Think of it like this. Say UFC has a main even with an opponent ( just random ) like Jeff Munson. Who draw more attention to that fight, Frank Mir, Kongo, Gonzaga, Sylvia, or Cro Crop? |
Mir ATM TBH
|
You think Mir would draw more then Cro Crop in a fight against an average opponent? I disagree, but ok.
|
Mir is much closer to a title fight and is on a two fight win streak (one against a uber hyped future HWC) while Cro Cop is on a two fight losing streak and is pretty much out the door..
You gotta think, prolly like 80% of American MMA fans have never seen PRIDE.. |
Nah, i dont agree with the 80% thing. Cro Crop was one of the most recognizable in the sport in 2006. I dont disagree with Mir being closer to a title fight. I'm not saying anything about that. Obviously Cro Crop isnt close to a title fight cause he's not in UFC anymore. My point was, why release a guy thats a top 3 draw in your weakest division. Its not like they have better.
|
Busty "The Bust" McBusterson
|
Look, Cro Cop was supposed to be the "Savior" of the heavy weight division, but he wasn't.. UFC has never had a great Heavy Weight division, ever.. They've had some great fighters here or there but LHW was always the marquee division..
It's not that big of a deal that he is leaving TBH.. Couture leaving was much more devastating IMO.. |
Quote:
I would have loved Cro Cop to have been a huge star in the UFC but he blew it. Not anyone else. UFC pushed him like a superstar and he got fucked. He didn't even start training in a cage or using elbows on the floor until his third fight. HIS OWN FAULT. |
Sylvia is not a bigger draw. Everyone boo's him cause he so boring. No one is buying a PPV to watch Sylvia fight.
|

Just as Rob said, I would have loved Cro Cop to come in a dominate but he didn't.. He didn't kill the weak division, just didn't save it.. |
