I know. Doesn't change that they've looked very bad though, can't forget they very nearly choked away a huge lead at home to Cleveland.

#1-norm-fan 09-12-2014 01:49 PM

Seems like every year in week 2 Dallas goes on the road to play a team that ends up making a "surprise" playoff appearance. With Tennessee being a trendy pick to make the playoffs even before last week, it got me thinking how oddly similar every week 2 game has felt lately.

Last year in week 2 it was @ Kansas City. 2-14 the year before, surprise playoff appearance.

The year before it was @ Seattle. 4 straight losing seasons, surprise playoff appearance with a rookie QB.

The year before it was @ San Francisco. Perennial NFC West basement dwellers, surprise playoff/NFC championship appearance.

And now @ Tennessee this year.

Evil Vito 09-12-2014 02:01 PM

Not totally sure how much of a surprise KC were. Like yeah obv they were horrible in 2012, but a lot of people penciled KC in for the playoffs last year simply because they had Charles, a good defense, a new coach (it's fun to make fun of Andy Reid but he has at least gotten teams to the playoffs a bunch of times) and most importantly one of the weakest looking schedules in NFL history.

Still not too sure how I feel about Tennessee. Can't decide if they played really well on Sunday or if KC just completely suck.

Another day, and things continue to look worse for Goodell. NFL has now given the reason for Rice's increased suspension, basically saying it's because he lied about what actually happened. This of course flies in the fact of the Outside the Lines report with multiple sources claiming Rice told Goodell exactly what happened, and the report from Ravens executives that what Rice told them was exactly what was on the video.

For us to believe this latest pile of bullshit, that would mean that the NFL based its first suspension not on the criminal report filed with police, which explained the events in detail, matching what was on the video, but instead they based it entirely on the testimony of Ray Rice.

There is literally nothing the NFL can do anymore that doesn't immediately contradict something else they said or make them look like complete and utter morons.

And on the new drug policy front, it's expected to get approved tonight, allowing Welker to play this weekend, somehow, nonsensically, Josh Gordon still has an 8 game suspension.

road doggy dogg 09-12-2014 02:34 PM

What people are losing in all this is that the Ravens "fully backed and supported" Rice while hearing the same recanting of events from Rice himself that the NFL did, and only had issue with it when it became a PR disaster. Fuck the Ravens too

screech 09-12-2014 03:09 PM

The fact that no one, the league nor the team, got the whole story and just took Rice at his word bothers me. It seems that, if the report of Goodell being told the real story in June is true, no one from "the office" went to the Ravens with that information.

Like, are we to believe that Rice lied to the team so he could have their support, but told Goodell the truth?

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Sources told FOX 26 Sports Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Montgomery County for reckless or negligent injury to a child.
Wonder what he did.

Nark Order 09-12-2014 06:18 PM

They should investigate the child to see what he did to provoke Adrian Peterson.

Droford 09-12-2014 07:16 PM

He <strike>disciplined</strike>beat his kid with a switch. Vikings have "deactivated" him.

Droford 09-12-2014 07:22 PM

now we get to have the "is it discipline or child abuse to beat your kid with a switch" debate and the inevitable "back in my day my parents whacked me on the behind with a 2x4 and I turned out great" thanks NFL

SlickyTrickyDamon 09-12-2014 07:23 PM

AP de-activated. Vikings going down now! Happy birthday to me!

Evil Vito 09-12-2014 07:39 PM

Peterson allegedly shoved leaves in his child's mouth and beat him with a switch several times, including hitting him in the scrotum with it. Fucking terrible, if true.

Triple A 09-12-2014 07:44 PM

what is a "switch"

edit: like a tree branch thing i guess

it'd be funny if the Vikings still beat the Pats without him.

Evil Vito 09-12-2014 07:46 PM

Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh” and also acknowledged the injury to the child’s scrotum in a text message, saying, “Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!”

In further text messages, Peterson allegedly said, “Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but don’t play no games when it comes to acting right.”

That's what he did. Guy deserves to get canned from the NFL. Just because that's how he was punished as a kid doesn't make it alright. Gotta rise above the abuse of the past generations and figure out a way to raise kids that doesn't involve senselessly beating them when they do wrong.

Stuff like that can be a really tough cycle to break but agree about him needing a big punishment. That's well beyond just normal discipline he did to his kid.

Nark Order 09-12-2014 08:27 PM

They shouldn't do anything to Adrian Peterson because he's on my fantasy team and that's not fair.

Crimson 09-12-2014 09:09 PM

Kids need an ass whoopin sometimes, nothing to see here.

Emperor Smeat 09-12-2014 10:12 PM

Ended up taking 2 grand juries to get an indictment possible.

Quote:

Local 2 Investigates has learned the case was taken to one grand jury and the panel decided to taken no action. The prosecutor recently took the case to a second grand jury which handed down the indictment.

Panthers deactivate Greg Hardy. Good. The owners can't say they are against domestic violence and still allow these guys to suit up. The teams need to police themselves for now because the league is incompetent.

Dammit, Locker. TONY ROMO is supposed to be the one to throw interceptions NOT YOU!

Home vs. Texans next week, road vs. Washington the week after. If they don't win both of those I can't see how they win more than 4 games this year.

May as well just pull this from the casual thread.

one of the things that should be discussed all week is how bad the Broncos offense has been in the 2nd half. only 3 pts today after 7 last week, nearly giving away the game again.

SlickyTrickyDamon 09-14-2014 08:37 PM

SORRY ASS RECEIVER!

Crabtree gets first TD in the new arena on his birthday.

Game clock was at like -1.

Touchdown confirmed.

Frank Drebin 09-14-2014 10:52 PM

welp....thanks for 15 years of great football, Mr. Tillman. Those tears tell me its over.

Frank Drebin 09-14-2014 11:23 PM

Can't believe the bears are in this. Down to two healthy corner backs. One is having a hell of a game.

On one hand you're right it is kind of sad they shut down at halftime, on the other 24 and 31 should be enough to win games no matter when they are scored.

Clerk 09-15-2014 09:26 AM

Browns are the best team in the league!
