I wonder what they put in that shit. All them dudes weren't huddled together laughing for nothing.

Don't try and think too hard about it

Urban Meyer stepping down at Florida (again)

Kris P Lettus 12-08-2010 08:06 PM

Is he gonna stay on for the Outback Bowl against Penn State?)

Emperor Smeat 12-08-2010 09:05 PM

He's going to coach the bowl game and then make a decision on taking some time off from football or retire. The reasoning is due to health and missing his family but he did the same thing last year and returned 1-2 days later.

James Steele 12-08-2010 10:14 PM

He keeps doing this, eventually those players will shut him out and it will kill him in recruiting.

James Steele 12-11-2010 08:49 PM

Will Muschamp (Texas Defensive Coordinator) will be named next Head Football Coach of the Florida Gators.

Texas and Mack Brown are officially on Code Red Rebuilding Mode.

Cam Newton wins the Heisman in a blow out and after ESPN hyped him up as the best pick and deserving of a historical blow out victory, ESPN then writes in the article if he's going to be able to keep it after a few years.

They even said during the week leading to the announcement how it was a bad idea for voters to not vote for him but spent most of the Heisman article talking about all the off-field issues of him.

To be fair, Newton did have a great year on the field and in stats but you'd think the Heisman voters would have at least thought more about the potential for another voided winner or at least lessen the margin of victory.

Razzamajazz 12-11-2010 10:15 PM

if they included all the ballots that didn't have his name he would have had the 2nd most votes ever, if i understood that correctly

Evil Vito 12-18-2010 01:18 AM

Kinda excited for the Fiesta Bowl, if only because its UConn's first trip to a BCS Bowl. I don't expect them to win or anything but after hearing for a month about how they have zero chance at winning and will lose by 40 points I gotta think they'll be motivated.

Funny to think that the odds are that they'll lose money on the game. They aren't going to be able to get rid of their entire ticket allotment since most UConn fans don't want to travel across the country to watch a potential thrashing.

Emperor Smeat 12-23-2010 05:40 PM

NCAA suspends 5 players for up to 5 games next year with a 6th player getting a 1 game suspension due to violations involving money and NFL agents. Pryor was part of the group suspended.

NCAA also blames Ohio State for knowing about it and not doing anything about it but at the same time allow all the players to play in the upcoming bowl game. Violations go all the way back to 2009 so basically they won't get punished this year because NCAA and OSU knows they need those players to sell tickets and hype for the bowl game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5950873

Evil Vito 12-24-2010 04:12 PM

The NCAA is really fucking stupid. First off I'll say that the charges are rather ridiculous. I don't see what the big deal is with selling shit off that you earned, especially since most of the players did so to help their family. NFL players sell their Super Bowl rings all the time, but a college player does it and it's a big no-no.

But even with their stupid rules, the fact that they are blatantly not enforcing the suspensions for the Sugar Bowl solely because of money is ridiculous. The Sugar Bowl is the Sugar Bowl. Do you think half the audience will suddenly say "nah" if Pryor isn't playing or something?

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

Supreme Olajuwon 12-25-2010 10:51 AM

The Ohio State thing is so stupid. It's as stupid as the Newton thing. All these guys are Juniors too, so they can just bounce at the end of this season and never have to serve their suspensions.

Evil Vito 12-25-2010 11:37 AM

This could potentially be a horrible NFL draft. Think a lot of juniors are gonna stick around since nobody seems to know if football will even be played next year.

Actually, I wonder if there are guys who are gonna declare, get drafted, sign a huge contract, and then go back to finish their degree as regular students while no games are played. Would be pretty weird.

I hate to even say that. :( I'd cry without NFL football for a year.

Emperor Smeat 12-26-2010 12:57 AM

ESPN has a report of how 2 years ago the NCAA really considered to tough up their rules and punishments for football but due to their lack of real power, couldn't do anything. The BCS actually pays the NCAA for the bowl games and for the NCAA to not get involved in daily activities like in other sports.

A big idea was to ban teams who had major violations from tv but the mess that would occur due to conferences and BCS tv deals meant it was impossible to be done.

Both the NCAA and the committee responsible for college football ended up deciding against the ideas (NCAA really hates using the death penalty for D-1 schools in the major sports).

Evil Vito 12-30-2010 03:35 PM

So all of the Ohio State players had to pledge to return for their senior seasons (so they can serve their suspensions) or else they would have been banned from the Sugar Bowl.

lol that's completely fucked.

McLegend 12-30-2010 03:59 PM

Lol swear? That's ludricous. There is no way they can actually keep them from going.

Evil Vito 12-30-2010 04:08 PM

It was Tressel's call. He didn't want his players escaping the consequences.

Don't really see what's making them keep their word though. I mean I suppose Tressel could SUE his own players for breaking their agreement and leaving for the Draft early, but still. He blackmailed his players.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-30-2010 05:04 PM

He can't do anything about it, but if they lie to their coach's face, that really doesn't help their draft stock does it?

Supreme Olajuwon 12-30-2010 05:06 PM

Besides, that move wasn't about those players, it was about Ohio State showing that it isn't trying to be above the NCAA. It's purely for show.

Depends on how desperate an NFL team wants to be to draft one of those players but only Pryor would have any chance of getting drafted if he decided to lie and leave.

More teams are concerned about the "character" of a person after years of off-field issues either involving a person like Vick or team-wise like the Bengals a couple of years ago.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-30-2010 05:34 PM

Violating NCAA rules and then lying to your coach's face seems to be a pretty good basis for a person of bad character. Seems to show that someone doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Droford 12-30-2010 06:34 PM

lol what a terrible Excessive Celebration call on K-State.

Emperor Smeat 12-30-2010 09:22 PM

Nebraska involved in a payment incident with a player's father but unlike Auburn's case, the father also ends up owning the apparel company Nebraska uses for official merchandise.

The concern is the school giving the father's company 10% royalties as a way of guaranteeing his son played for Nebraska when the school was recruiting him.

In non-surprising news, NCAA doesn't find anything wrong or see it as a violation of rules since the player himself doesn't get the money (aka the Auburn excuse).

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5970508

In updated news, apparently Ohio State originally suspended the 5-6 players for just the bowl game until the NCAA stepped in to reinstate those players but with a deal to have them miss the 1st 5 games of the next season (6th player only misses one). Its similar to NCAA overriding Auburn's suspension of Cam Newton for SEC title game when Auburn vs Orgeon would generate more money than Oregon vs TCU.

Evil Vito 12-30-2010 10:22 PM

aaaaaand Todman's going to the draft. Fuck. :(

ClockShot 01-02-2011 08:53 PM

After the all the blood, sweat, and tears Randy Edsall put into the UConn football program..............he's leaving to coach Maryland.

Son of a bitch. We were on our way to being a big time football program, and he walks away to a job that's not even that great.

James Steele 01-02-2011 10:39 PM

He won't be at Maryland long. He will be at a semi-elite program in 5-6 years if he can win an ACC Championship or 2.

Evil Vito 01-03-2011 04:14 PM

Wow. My high school class president is on the UConn football team. Based on what he's said on Facebook, the UConn players are absolutely furious with Edsall. Not the fact that he's leaving, but he told Todman to announce his decision on the draft ASAP - and then proceeded to leave in the middle of the night without telling anybody that he was taking another job. He didn't even fly back with the team.

I've lost all respect for him. Hope he fails at Maryland.

Emperor Smeat 01-03-2011 04:53 PM

He realized once his best player leaves, the team is going to decline for at least a year or 2 and his value for a big contract would decline as well. Smart move on his part but horrible for his former school or convincing future prospects about being "loyal" to a school or program.

Happens a lot in college in basketball and football anytime a coach gets popular quickly from a small school and "cashes" in at a big school.

James Steele 01-03-2011 05:22 PM

While I completely understand the players' anger, that is the coaching business. Hell, it happens in high school football.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-03-2011 08:18 PM

He's more than welcome to take the job, but it's preferable if he doesn't run from his players like a scared little bitch.

I agree that Edsall did it in a very fucked up way, but it shouldn't be as shocking as it is. I just can't believe he is acting like Maryland is an elite level job. He better win because Friegden got screwed and the fanbase loves Friegden and will look to crucify Edsall initially.

And RichRod gets fired from Michigan. I'd bet top dollar the A.D. was on the phone to Harbaugh the minute the door shut on his office.

Apparently, Phil Fulmer has some interest in the UConn job. I'm all for it.

parkmania 01-05-2011 08:26 PM

Looks like Penn State defensive coordinator and Asst Head Coach Tom Bradley is gonna get the Pitt job.

He should have had it 3 weeks ago.

Joe Paterno's got to love it that Bradley's going - that's one less person who has a legitimate claim to be the next head coach instead of Jay Paterno once Joe dies (because apparently the only way Joe leaves the job is feet first.)

Skippord 01-06-2011 03:00 AM

do you think that they'll name the next coach of Penn State like they name the new Pope?

Auburn 16-11 Oregon, Halftime.

ESPN announcers have been favoring Auburn a lot during their talking and not as much concerning Oregon.

No surprise though since their pre-game stuff leading to the game and the last few days involved mostly SEC people (Meyer, Saban, etc) with the occasional talk of if Oregon can stop Auburn.

McLegend 01-11-2011 12:01 AM

Les Miles reportedly will take the Michigan job if he is offered it.

Vastardikai 01-11-2011 02:01 AM

I'll give credit to Oregon for playing their ass off.

Past few years the SEC Title game was competitive while the National Title Game was a blowout. This year it was the opposite. Auburn had to earn this one.

Baton Rouge - LSU football Coach Les Miles is staying at LSU, a source at the university said Tuesday.

Miles, the former Wolverines player and assistant coach, turned down an offer to become head coach at his alma mater after meeting with Michigan officials Monday night in Baton Rouge.

Miles has four years remaining on his contract which pays him $3.751 million.

*

Emperor Smeat 01-11-2011 04:00 PM

Can't blame Miles for not wanting to leave since the SEC will be guaranteed a spot in the National title game and all he needs to do is manage to win the SEC title for a spot with at least 0-1 losses.

Much easier than to rebuild Michigan, who has to compete with both OSU and a lot of other teams/conferences for the other title spot.

Splaya 01-11-2011 04:35 PM

Wolverines get Brady Hoke. Not great, but the defense is already loads better

Kris P Lettus 01-11-2011 10:16 PM

Kris P Lettus 01-11-2011 10:18 PM

How is the SEC garanteed a spot in the national championship??

Emperor Smeat 01-12-2011 12:27 AM

Its more of a perception of them actually being guaranteed a spot since ESPN and others have a lot of influence in terms of hype and news even if the computers don't show the SEC deserving of the spot for a particular year. Although to be fair, ESPN does the same with the ACC in basketball even during "down" years with the hype.

Some people were even able to figure out that it was possible for LSU or Auburn to reach the title game even if they didn't win the SEC title (LSU) or had a bad loss in conference (Auburn pre-Bama game).

Even though the NCAA doesn't really control the BCS, they know that a lot of money and hype can be generated if an SEC team is in the title picture. To be fair, all the major bowls favor big name teams and conferences and don't like to give up a spot to a Big East team or ACC team even though they have to by the rules.

ClockShot 01-12-2011 05:07 PM

I guess Miami Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple is in the final stages of being head coach for UConn.

As long as he doesn't squeeze the charmin, I'm cool with it. Still would have liked Fulmer.
