lol Cody McLeod scoring a goal and then less than a minute later getting tossed from the game.

Gertner 10-16-2010 11:26 AM

Leafs bitches.

parkmania 10-16-2010 12:30 PM

About time the Pens won in their new building. Was getting ridiculous.

Hawks Win!

weather vane 10-18-2010 01:23 AM

Bruins.

LoDownM 10-18-2010 03:05 PM

I know it's only 4-6 games into the season(depending on the team) but I never would of called Toronto and Dallas as the only undefeated teams still.

Joey Slugs 10-18-2010 10:56 PM

Hossa is a fucking beast.

7 in 7

YOUR Hero 10-19-2010 09:36 AM

Hossa is an awesome player when healthy.

El Fangel 10-19-2010 02:13 PM

Brad Richards is blowing my mind right now.

Stamkos is looking sick as well :)

Kapoutman 10-19-2010 10:45 PM

Leafs are pretty damn impressive right now. Quite happy to have Kaberle in my fantasy team.

Canadiens are surprising. I don't know if it's going to last the season, but they're actually playing decently. It's nice to see.

El Fangel 10-19-2010 10:51 PM

It is, but like Dallas and Toronto, something has to give.

Joey Slugs 10-19-2010 11:37 PM

Luongo gave up 6 goals on 18 shots tonight against the Wild before getting pulled before the 3rd. No wonder they pulled the C off of him. Can't wait til tomorrow night!

Don't get me wrong, he's ione of the best goalies in the league, but I really believe he's peaked. The whole 'captain' thing was dumb. They did that to make him happy as they were negotiating his contract. They should never have signed him for so long and for so much. The Canucks have the best goalie prospect in the minors in Cory Schnieder.
Canuck fans might think I'm crazy, but Luongo should have been signed to a shorter deal with the intentions of seeing if Schnieder was going to pan out, and if he did, make a trade on Luongo.
It's still possible to trade Luongo I imagine...
I'm just not sold that in a hard cap system you aren't trying to church the talent over faster.

RoXer 10-21-2010 12:23 AM

Pretty infuriating that that fan got kicked out when Rick Rypien grabbed him when he didn't do anything. I hope they let him go back to his seat later. Or gave him tix to another game.

weather vane 10-21-2010 12:39 AM

RoXer 10-21-2010 03:49 AM

Might only be early in the season but they defiantly fixed their scoring and defensive problems from last year.

We can keep four players in our team from year to year. Price has been taken for three years now.

Which is why I'm stuck with Vokoun as a #1 goalie. I've been hoping for a trade for a couple of years, but they always want unrealistic deals. The bastards.

Might want to trade him soon, he is a UFA next summer and with Markstrom nearing ready, I honestly don't see them signing him.

Rookie mistake by e rookis coach.

El Fangel 10-24-2010 08:22 PM

I agree with you Hero.

Must have been something bad to bench him though.

SaskatchewanChamp 10-25-2010 07:16 PM

Lou just had a quote on TSN here in Canada stating that he is very happy with the coaching his team is receiving. Bob Mackenzie has also said the reason Kovalchuk was a scratch was because he missed a team meeting.

El Fangel 10-25-2010 10:24 PM

That seems a bit odd, as Parise, Langerbrunner and Arnott were all asked if they knew why he was benched and they stated no.

YOUR Hero 10-25-2010 10:37 PM

I believe they are just trying to let it die.

El Fangel 10-25-2010 10:41 PM

That is likely the case, but apparently Parise legit was surprised Kovalchuk was getting benched.

Anyways, NJD is pretty terrible this year.

Maybe in Canada, casual hockey fans in the US wouldn't give a shit honestly. NBC gets a say in the teams, and they want the money and ratings from Sid/Ovie not 2 Canadians team no one in the US really care about. Not trying to be a dick, but it's the way it is.

And I'm sure you'd be fine with it if it was a Pens/Hawks or the Hawks vs anyone.

El Fangel 10-28-2010 11:46 PM

LoM, the problem with Sid/Ovy is that it isn't that exciting. They both get shutdown by the other team and basically you pay to see that and them being on the ice at the same time.

Not scoring a bunch of goals, as is what they are trying to see.

Toronto vs Montreal wouldn't be money?

Most if not all hockey fans in canada would watch, they would sell a metric fuckton of merchandise PLUS winter classic jerseys would sell astronomically.

Couple that with the fact that most americans bar Minnesota live less then 300 miles of the 49, I.e michigan, new York, boston, etc. And saying that Montreal/Toronto in the winter classic wouldn't make money is one of the dumbest things i have ever heard.

Emperor Smeat 10-29-2010 12:14 AM

Its all about location with these Winter Classics since if the game is held in Canada, then a Montreal vs Toronto would make the most sense in terms of support and hype as was the case with the pre-Classics outdoor games.

Since NHL needs to rebound in popularity in the US especially with the non-hockey hotbeds, it makes more sense to market the Classic between US rivalries or "superstars" to generate the mega-hype.

No need to worry about Canada or hockey hotbeds since they will watch the game but the NHL needs the rest of the US to care about the game as a way to boost NHL's appeal.

El Fangel 10-29-2010 12:21 AM

I agree there. I don't agree that mon/tor won't make money.

Actually, I wouldn't. The Hawks had their Winter Classic (which I was at) and I want to see it spread around. Leafs, Habs, Rangers all deserve to host/play before they start to repeat teams (since the Bruins, Wings, and Hawks already played).

Shit... how about the Wild/Stars @ Target Field?

weather vane 10-29-2010 02:01 AM

that would be brtl... wild and stars... give me a break...

btw Tim Thomas is a beast...

El Fangel 10-29-2010 02:09 AM

You know what would be cool? Throwback winter classic with avs wearing nordiques jerseys and Carolina wearing Hartford.

I would mark out.

SaskatchewanChamp 10-29-2010 02:52 PM

It's all about marketability, with this match up, Caps/Pens, you get a lot of the hype needed too generate a buzz. Not too mention, besides the game itself, ESPN is doing a 24/7 series too go along with the game. This would not be possible if not for the most recognizable faces south of the boarder were not playing in the game.

I would love too see other teams play in the game, however, with the state of the game in the south, I believe this is the best route too take.

El Fangel 10-29-2010 02:57 PM

Besides the original outdoor game, there hasnt been a canadian team in the winter classic yet.

I think a canadian/american game would be quite fun to watch on new years day.

Van/Det
Mon/Chicago
Toronto/Some midget team

parkmania 10-29-2010 02:59 PM

NBC and the NHL want the game to get as high ratings as possible. Like him or not, Sid is the face of the NHL - especially to the unwashed masses and casual fans. It's simply smart business to use him as much as possible.

I thought it was HBO doing the 24/7 show. I know it was mentioned locally on the radio that the producers would be trying to get some of the guys to swear as much as possible.

So lets see, ignore people who know more then 2 players and understand the offside rule to make as much money as possible.

Seems about right.

Dialogue of people watching the game

"Hey who is that to the right of Ovechkin"

"Says here his name is Niklas Backstrom"

"Is he any good?"

"I dunno, never heard of him, so I dont think so"

Malkin Scores

"Hey that guy playing with Our Lord and Savior just scored"

"Says his name is Malkin, probably another shitty player using Sid The Kid to look better"

Joey Slugs 10-29-2010 05:29 PM

You and I are on the same wavelength here, FA. The biggest problem with the NHL right now is that they are trying to appeal to the casual fans that just don't give a shit and losing more and more die hard fans in the process. They are hyping up the Caps & Pens - both of which lost to the same #8 ranked Habs in last year's playoffs - yet the Habs are playing in the Heritage Classic (a game that most fans won't even be able to see outside of Canada).

And the idea for the Avs/Canes Winter Classic would be awesome.

And traditional hockey fans would watch the Wild/Stars play because they would understand the meaning behind a game like that. Will it happen? Of course not. But it would be awesome if they did. Especially if Modano was still in Dallas.

OssMan 10-29-2010 06:21 PM

You do well enough to get in, that's about it. The better teams will make it, cuz they can. But the seedings dont especially matter.
