Well... people were getting shot and jets were getting blown out of the sky - just like in Empire. Maybe the more modern toned military chatter is throwing you off, and I could get that at least. But trust me this is 1:1 the Battle of Hoth.

But you're right, anything involving the words "modern" and "military" would have things I don't recognize.

Mortar strikes alone doesn't make Star Wars 'gritty', no more than Vader joining the battle in the open makes it 'silly'.

That was more in response to you saying it was 1:1 the Battle of Hoth, not in support of it being gritty.
