Jim Ross enjoyed The Final Deletion
Quote:

On the Final Deletion match from Impact: “Enjoyed the TNA presentation on Tuesday night on POP TV headlined by the unique and creative Final Deletion Match featuring brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy. This bout had some terrific production elements including no commentary and a ‘spot on’ music bed running throughout the presentation. This was fun to watch because it was original while still sticking to many of the old school values and principles that many of us enjoy. I applaud both Matt and Jeff for their creativity, their efforts and their desire to present a unique, pro wrestling bout that had a great story going in which provided viewers with significant anticipation and they then delivered a strong performance and outcome. The Final Deletion match was one of the most unique and entertaining concepts that I’ve seen in years. Plus Matt Hardy deserves praise for re-inventing himself as a classic villain for this presentation and Jeff, of course, is simply one of the great performers that our biz has seen in decades. I’m proud to call both brothers my friends and they were two of our greatest signees in WWE while I was working in talent relations.”

They got less people to watch than watched the first episodes on POP and they needed a dumb gimmick "match" to pull that off. It'll be back to 300k next week.

Seriously, it isn't like it is backyard kids trying to get some sort of notiriety. No, this is intentionally B-movie material. I keep expect to see silhouettes of Servo, Crow, and Mike/Joel. This is the logical eventuality of Lucha Underground vignettes. This self-deprecating bullshit is far and away worlds better than the UNINTENTIONALLY bad regular bullshit TNA regularly produces. Seriously. I already know TNA can't be trusted to run a normal wrestling show that will hold my interest. I've given them opportunity after opportunity and it always ends with me feeling like I've wasted my time.

I am SIGNIFICANTLY more likely to tune in if their entire show was over the top, ridiculous shit like this.

They have gone full e-fed.

Emperor Smeat 07-07-2016 09:41 PM

The bump is one of those good/bad type situations, the good being it was pretty larger in terms of percentages but also bad because of how small TNA's viewerbase is on POP TV.

Wonder if the Director's Cut being released very quickly might be a reason for why the bump was just 88k viewers. Almost all the real hype for the show was just for the Final Deletion so them releasing the video is sort of like Hulu replays for RAW. No need to watch the show if you missed it since the most important thing is officially online.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-08-2016 12:30 AM

I guess I just don't "get it." A lot of people are saying how much they've enjoyed this, and I'm just scratching my head wondering why the hell anyone would be okay with wasting 17 minutes of their life watching this crap. In fact this made me wonder if this is how non-wrestling fans see "normal" wrestling shows. I get that wrestling has in the past and always will have a goofy, nonsensical side, but this crap took that to a whole new level. I found myself feeling legit embarrassed for the first time ever about being a wrestling fan. I know it's meant to be B-Movie material, but I just can't understand why they'd want it to be B-Movie material. Maybe it's just that I don't get the love of bad movies to begin with. Crap like Sharknado has never appealed to me and always seemed like a waste of time and effort. Meh...

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-08-2016 11:04 AM

You know what. It is absolutely horrendous. But one has to assume that Matt and Jeff embraced the wrestecrap nature of the whole thing and just ran with it. It's certainly no worse than the Sid, Vader, midget, Bulldog and Sting fiasco (in fact I'd say it's better because at there seems to be a certain awareness). J.R.s praise for it is kind of... odd.... but I do have the distinct idea that Matt and Jeff were in on the joke.

I would have cut it by a few minutes, but it's certainly better than a half an hour of Stephanie McMahon putting herself over during a RAW segment. That's not saying very much though. And one must wonder with all that effort placed into something absolutely batshit insane, what could be accomplished if they placed all that energy into creating a great product with clear focus and easy to follow storylines.

But I will never in my life watch that again, lol.

Simple Fan 07-08-2016 12:12 PM

Agree, didn't seem like Jeff was all that into it but then again he's always been the worst promo/actor of the two. That's why I'm real interested to see who Matt feuds with next because I feel like someone other than Jeff could really click with the Broken Matt Hardy character. EC3 would be my choice, the golden boy of the company that Matt must DAHLEET.

Heisenberg 07-08-2016 12:59 PM

Brother Nero can't even fathom his man-made pond, he also DAHLEETED himself

Heisenberg 07-08-2016 01:07 PM

Love reading all the hate about the Hardy feud and Lesnar. Some people just hate to see others succeed. The UFC jackoff fans on Facebook poop on Lesnar for no good reason. When I see Lesnar I see a man who is not to be fucked with. He has reached the top level of sports entertainment and MMA, provides for his family, is HOME with his family(can't be said for most of those jackoffs sitting on their phone shitting on anything Lesnar-related), raised on a farm and started from nothing.

Call me bias, but I still remember The Hardy Boyz jumping off ladders and flipping off turnbuckles a little more than they should have. They deserve respect and can get away with having a say in their vision. That's why I can appreciate their Magnum Opus of B-Movie righteousness and move along with my days

A couple of podcasts have a theory that the Slammiversary contract signing was played seriously, but it was so shit that Matt just pivoted it into the Final Deletion being totally campy, but I disagree. The Slammiversary contract signing had Reby throwing the doll of a baby trying to pretend it was Maxel and a shot that was left in of Matt failing to get out of the ring properly and even setup Senor Benjamin. He knows what he's doing, he just dialled it in better for this. But either wya, he does know how ridiculous this all is and he's revelling in it like some of his ROH work and even Big Money Matt in TNA:

You don't understand how hard it is to be Matt Hardy

Jeffs a smart enough guy so I want to believe he's in on it but doesn't have much acting range, but then I remember his album and the fact that he does legit have his symbol mowed into his lawn....

I have heard a couple of lapsed fans that haven't watched since the early 2000's that heard about it on Twitter and watched it. One loved it, one hated it and I'm in the UK so it won't help the POP rating, but the buzz seems to have gotten outside the usual circles.

Benjamin's gift of the Extraordinary Xylophone is relevant to the story, as musical instruments have played a key role. Matt uses them to summon Jeff. What will happen when Maxell plays the Xylophone?

Matt Hardy Vanguard 1 (call back to Matt Hardy v1)

V1 drone lists Jeff's alias as "Jimmy Jack Tomkins" and maksed [sic] mountain character he played when he was a kid.

V1 also lists Jeff's signature move as "phony twist of fate"

Drone somehow rings a doorbell

There are seven drones in all that come to Jeff House. This number is the amount of Tag championships the Hardys have won.

The violin summons Jeff. This symbolises the call of addiction. Edit: Others have pointed out the Emperor Nero reference:this makes more sense.

The ring has two large trees next to it, one for each Hardy. Jeff climbs the one on his corner, showing that during their career he has been the one to take more risks. The Flashback near the end also has a reference to "Union pines" school. Of course, this "union" of brothers is now broken.

The ladder is of course call back to the ladder matches that got the Hardys their initial fame.

Not sure what the Trellis represent?

Matt attacks Jeff with fireworks This symbolises when Jeff was injured by fireworks on smackdown

The Dilapidated Boat symbolises their leaving the WWE and coming to TNA. While TNA has struggled with finances, it still provides a place for wrestlers to work and protects them from unemployment.

Willow is Willow.

Matt uses the torch in the darkness, this symbolises his lowest point, when he was unemployed after leaving WWE and searching for purpose.

Senor Benjamin shows he is more than just a gardener by tazing Jeff. Is he the real puppet master here?

The match started at sunset and finished at sunrise. They fought all night.

The candle from Maxel's cake comes back to save the day.

"Son's first birthday"= Sun's first birthday. The sun is rising as Matt says this and "the Sun's first birthday" means the first day of a new era. Alternatively he could be celebrating Maxells first day without the malignant influence of his evil Uncle Nero.

The flashback has images from posing as teens, winning the TNA tag titles, outside Union pines highschool (remember the two pines next to the ring?) Swanton from the heavens, picture as kids.

Jeff falls onto the dirt, the same place where he hurt his leg in a dirt bike accident, the accident that triggered everything. The Hardys were in the middle of their first ever TNA world tag reign, when Jeff injured himself. This led to Matt making a quest for the World title, a quest that would eventually consume him.

Without watching a second of this abomination, I think if or when Matt and Jeff return to the WWE, I am almost certain they will have 2 Wellness strikes a piece automatically against them. Also, Hasney should be deleted along with this thread for even bringing this up.

Simple Fan 07-09-2016 10:07 PM

Calling something an abomination without watching it is rather odd.

At least watch it and suffer like the rest of us. Don't piggyback off of our pain.

I think that is the most "wrestling" t-shirt ever. Like something nobody will understand unless you are a fan of wrestling.

#1-norm-fan 07-11-2016 11:53 PM

Some details on the vignettes from Impact last night.
Quote:

The Matt Hardy vignettes that aired on Impact last night were filmed on Monday at Matt Hardy’s home.

— Brad Stutts, the long-time booker of CWF Mid-Atlantic, played Matt’s butler and scribe. A close friend of Reby Sky played the part of Rita the servant.

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-13-2016 06:47 PM

Rita?...ahhhhhhhhh!!!

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-13-2016 07:07 PM
