Yeah that's a bit weird. Maybe Omega has been way too busy working on whatever contraption he has in store for the explody barbed wire match.

rez 03-03-2021 09:58 PM

Marty Scurll was allegedly the first plan to lead the faction. Him staying where he was seems like they probably dodged a bullet on PR. It also led to Brodie and Brodie Jr. so I'll take it.

Triple A 03-03-2021 09:59 PM

Silver rules so much, so smooth

Emperor Smeat 03-03-2021 09:59 PM

Tag match was pretty good despite it running out of steam right near the end.

 at the random mass brawl to close out the show.

Emperor Smeat 03-03-2021 10:01 PM

That was a very entertaining show overall and one of AEW's better go-home shows.

Helluva go home show. They did a great job advancing most of the stories they've had going. Except for the main event.

Hall of Fame WORTHY talent... Hmmm by using those words we should probably assume it's someone who isn't a current hall of famer.

I doubt it. He's prob signed up to get involved in whatever Edge has going on at Mania.

Honestly I have no idea. Punk is the too obvious choice but I can't see it. Think they'd have signed him already.

I have no clue what talent is sitting out there that is readily available and big enough a name to hype this way.

Unless it's a New Japan star.

Punk, Lesnar and Batista would be first tier choices. Christian and Mark Henry could be possible if they aren't signed to WWE. Joey Styles could be possible but that wouldn't be huge, awesome but not huge. I could see Trish or Lita provided they aren't signed with WWE. Same for Paige. Can't really think of anyone else that would fit the hype.

rez 03-03-2021 10:21 PM

I'm still strong on Christian. I think Sting (and Paul) convinced him....

Punk: sure, wouldn't complain. bring his wife in, too.

I'd laugh if Big Show wasn't talking about a wrestling Hall of Fame and instead a NFL one since Cody mentioned in a recent media call about Pat McAfee having talks with AEW which McAfee later denied.

McAfee has been someone who drew a lot of praise by Triple H and NXT/WWE officials for his work in NXT and his random disappearance from NXT has been a bit puzzling.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I will mark the fuck out of it's Cena. But I highly doubt it'd be him. One mention of it to Vince and there'd be a fleet of WWE branded Brinks trucks on Cena's front yard.

Lesnar is too expensive for how limited he would be.

Kurt Angle is too old. So is Foley. Unless they're bringing in and hyping on air personalities.

Punk would make the most sense and create a ton of buzz.

Paige would be interesting. But I don't think she can get cleared. So it would be an odd signing. Feel like it has to be an in ring act. Not a manager or valet or whatever.

Damian Rey 2.0 03-04-2021 12:35 AM

Also, it's the "biggest scoop ever". So maybe it's a giant wrestler none of us know about or thinking of. Big Cass maybe lmao.

Cena signing a deal with AEW would be the modern day version of Hogan leaving for WCW tier in terms of shock and holy shit moment even if Cena's actual usefulness in the ring is very limited these days due to his movie and entertainment career.

Damian Rey 2.0 03-04-2021 12:59 AM

AEW does do a really good job of protecting their performers and keeping them featured without actually wrestling. For instance, Darby Allen and Team Taz have gotten a shit ton of tv time but maybe 1 or 2 matches since Sting showed up.

If they could sign Cena, their ppv schedule and the way they build out their storylines could workfor a guy with that type of schedule.

That said, I honestly hope it ends up being Punk.

Triple A 03-04-2021 03:07 AM

One thing that makes me think it's not Kurt Angle or Mick Foley is he said "Hall of Fame worthy" and they are both in the WWE Hall of Fame already... feels like they wouldn't word it that way maybe if it was them, but doesn't necessarily disqualify them

COULD IT BE?!

Evil Vito 03-04-2021 09:13 AM

Wasn't on last night but holy fuck what a great episode that was. If I wasn't already planning on getting Revolution, that would've sold me.

That episode resembled a three ring circus in the very best way.

You like flippy lucha guys? We've got it. You want NWA/WCW nostalgia? Here's Sting and Tully fucking Blanchard. You want huge headline grabbing matches, have some Shaq. Ex-WWE guys? We've got them too. Here's a Joshi slugfest for good measure. Let's throw on a promo from Atsushi Onita to top it off.

I know wrestling has been quietly going insane for about five years now, but Tully Blanchard just wrestled Marko Stunt on the same show Shaq took a table bump and Atsushi Onita cut a promo hyping a deathmatch. And depending who the next big signing to be announced is, there's no guarantee that any of those things will end up being what this show is most remembered for. What a delight.

Gerard 03-04-2021 01:14 PM

Cute t-shirt "no more bs". :wtf:

The way they’re hyping it up as a “huge, huge star”, it better be someone with decent star power or at the very least Mongo McMichael.

Triple A 03-04-2021 01:39 PM

Tony Khan hyping up the signing some more:

Quote:

Paul Wight told you that you’re not going to be the only one with these scoops around here anymore, and he’s gonna break some scoops too, and I’ve given him a big scoop. He told the world, and it’s true, that there’s going to be a big star signed with AEW. And he’s coming here, and that’s absolutely true what Paul said. This Sunday, a major star in the world of wrestling, a huge, huge star is going to come and sign a multi-year contract with AEW on Sunday at the pay-per-view. I can confirm what Paul said is true, and I’m not talking about the person in the ladder match. We have a great, fun sixth person in the ladder match, but the person who I’m saying is going to come and sign a multi-year contract with AEW, the person Paul referenced, that’s not the sixth person in the ladder match. Paul’s talking about a big surprise, and that’s no joke. What he said to you I can confirm is true.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-04-2021 07:56 PM

If it’s Angle, Foley, or Christian I’ll be ok but whelmed. Not underwhelmed. Just whelmed.

If it’s Cena, Punk or Lesnar I’ll lose my shit.

If it’s Steiner or RVD I’ll be like ok that’s cool but what else you got.

I dunno. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but they’re literally telling me to get my hopes up.

Fignuts 03-04-2021 08:12 PM

I want it to be Cena. I think seeing him in a more unchained environment would be really interesting and cool.

xrodmuc316 03-04-2021 08:19 PM

There is 0% chance it is John Cena unless Vince and Tony have been in cahoots since day 1.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-04-2021 08:31 PM

Probably. That’s why it would be such a shock. Again, I don’t want to get my hopes up. It will probably be someone I really like. But they’re hyping it as an all time get. So we’ll see.

Sting Fan 03-04-2021 08:45 PM

I dont see how they can match the hype tbh. Anyone short of Punk and above might feel a bit hollow but the whole "Hall of fame worthy" has my disapointment radar going off.

RVD might be cool, Steiner or Angle are pretty solid Mehs from me frankly. Although Angle could be worthwhile as a figure I don't really want him to wrestle. Hes so far from the Anlge golden years I dont want to see it.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-04-2021 09:08 PM

Yeah. When Wight said it’s not who you think that was almost certainly eliminating Punk.

I dunno. If they blow it, then it’s TNA all over again.

Emperor Smeat 03-04-2021 09:15 PM

If they tap into their partnerships, could be someone big from AAA since anyone notable from NJPW is ruled out because of their current New Japan Cup tournament stuff.

Psycho Clown did mention in a recent interview about how he wants to wrestle more in the US this year and he's one of the biggest name stars in Mexico these days and would fit as someone Hall of Fame worthy. He's someone similar to the level of a John Cena in Mexico.

That would still be a very anti-climatic announcement but on the flip side would potentially give AEW a huge boost for their Latino market.

#1-norm-fan 03-04-2021 09:18 PM

I think Batista got thrown into it because Big Show said "At AEW Evolution" by mistake.

Batista has been saying he wanted one more match with HHH at Mania then he would retire since about 3 years before it even happened. I would put him at slightly above Cena chances, call it 0.025% for him.

I'm thinking it's Kota Ibushi, I read his NJFW contract expired on Fightful. Also was thinking Jay White. Perhaps they swerved us by sending him to Japan at the beginning of the year as a gift.

I've also herd Pat Mcafee's name bandied about but I'm not certain of his WWE contract status.

Mark Henry said he wanted one more match and he's close friends with Big Show. While that would be cool I wouldn't think it worthy of the hype.

Basically it has to be Lesnar, Punk or Batista to live up to the hype. Ibushi/White would go over well obviously but it wouldn't be the bombshell we are expecting.

Jay White makes sense because they can repackage him as Jay Wight the little brother of The G Paul Wight. Then they can team up against The Young Bucks and The Lucha Bro's in a wild 3 team rivalry for the Tag Belts. The Wight Bro"s.

I can't see it being Ibushi, he only finally got an IWGP Title run after he finally signed a contract there, can't imagine they'd have doubled down on him being the one to unify the belts if he was on the way out. Even with the new working relationship allowing the companies to share talent, I just don't see them giving that sort of rub to a guy if he's not under contract.
