So 2 things, Crouch and Kewell.

I have no sympathy for Harry Kewell. He hasn't looked interested since his start to the club wasn't as great as he suspected, and he just drags the team down when he is on the pitch. I think he's right down Rafa's list now anyway.

As for Crouch. I hate being negative of players before they've had the chance, but what the fuck is Rafa playing at.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-20-2005 07:33 AM

Morientes is better than Crouch in the air. Considering his size he's pretty average really.

Cactus Sid 07-20-2005 09:12 AM

Also LOL @ Everton, losing to Thailand U23's

Wengerland 07-20-2005 10:04 AM

Liverpool would have been better off getting Ashton - younger, probably cheaper and a better allround striker than Crouch. When you've got Morientes you don't need Crouch and £7m is a lot for someone who's only really established himself as a premiership class striker over the past 6 months, and could well be backup.

I reckon he could end up being viewed by Liverpool fans in the same manner as Heskey, which is unfortunate for him.

Danny Electric 07-20-2005 10:15 AM

I agree with Ashton.

I've honestly never been impressed by Cisse, be it for Auxerre, Liverpool or France. Poor attitude and a woeful finisher. I've never seen him play particularly well.

He bagged a few goals in the French league, right enough, but I think players need more than that to justify a £14 million fee. Kapo of that Auxerre side looked a better player, and already Juventus are trying to get rid of him. Mexes hasn't looked the business at Roma, either, nor has Boumsong looked particularly special in the short time he has played in England.

An overrated heap of players, that Auxerre side was.

Doink 07-20-2005 01:14 PM

Give Crouch his chance, he did well when he was at QPR, Pompey and the Saints! He wasnt given a chance at Villa but when he played he did ok. He hasnt got the best goal scoring record but he is no where near by far the worst front man out there. Anyway Liverpool have only signed him as he's the only man tall enough to get on the end of Zenden's crosses!

lmao at Harry Redknapp:

'people say there is something special about the kid, the only thing I can see thats special is he's 6'8 !!'

Yeah thats right its got nothing to do with the fact that Crouch was absolutely everytime he played in the top flight bar last season? Seriously if ever there was a player having a one season wonder I believe its him. The next Michael Ricketts? Probably not now because he's moved to Liverpool and will score some goals but a good striker he ain't.

Anyway Emre is going to be great I can feel it.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-20-2005 03:24 PM

Yeah Crouch is shite.

Emre is a great player, but odds are he'll get 3 red cards before Christmas and be out on loan to Galatasary or Fenebache before the season's out.

Well those stats are worthless when Emre and Boa Morte aren't even strikers.

Doink 07-20-2005 04:51 PM

Peter Crouch - 145 games - 46 goals. ave=1 goal every 3.15 games
Dean Ashton - 175 games - 67 goals. ave=1 goal every 2.61 games
Cisse - 181 games - 80 goals. ave=1 goal every 2.26 games
Yakubu - 67 games - 29 goals. ave=1 goal every 2.31 games
Ricketts - 196 games - 54 goals. ave=1 goal every 3.62 games

Emre - 227 games - 29 goals. ave=1 goal every 7.82 games
Boa Morte - 206 games - 41 goals. ave=1 goal every 5.02 games

Boa Morte has been used as a forward on more than one occasion! I put Emre's stats on here out of curiosity as you think he is going to be great so i was letting you see his history! Personally I will reserve judgement as am wondering where you will play him and alongside who?

Apparently centre attacking mid probably alongside Parker. Again leaves Jenas out :( but oh well. I'd like to see him out wide to accomadate Jenas but he ain't much of a winger like Robert or anything.

Ogen 07-20-2005 05:42 PM

Villa are being linked with Baros again I hope we don't bother. I'm interested in all the talk about Saviola coming our way but again I'm not 100% he'll be a Premiership success. Still another striker is needed since Vassell doesn't look like he'll ever be a 20 goal striker.

We're stilling crying out for another midfielder though. Been a allright summer though, Berger will do a allright job for a bit I'd say. O'Leary has wanted Philips forever so I'm hoping he can do something if we supply him and Angel. I love the signing of Taylor think he'll be great be good to see him and Sorenson push each other.

Hughes will be handy to have for cover. If we could add one more central midfielder to challenge Hendrie for a spot along McCann I'd be happy. Be happier if we managed to sell off Vassell and got in one more striker to go with Angel, Philips, Moore and another.

Ogen 07-20-2005 05:45 PM

Crouch is good if you play to his strengths.

With us he had Robert Prosinecki to put balls on his head and all he had to do was let them bounce into the goal. For Southampton last season he flicked it on for Phillips and Camara and got on the end of crosses from Prutton and Le Saux. Against us in the cup game all they did was launch long balls for him to flick on. All this stuff about "he has good touch for a big man!!!!!" is bollocks, his height is the only useful thing about him. But the problem is, he isn't particularly strong with his height.

But yeah anyway, I dunno who Souness is gonna pick in midfield, I mean Parker and Emre should be in the starting lineup IMO (I have higher rep so obviously I know what i'm talking about  ) and i'm thinking he's gonna put Dyer on the right, Jenas on the left, or maybe give N'Zogbia a first team place, and put Dyer playing just off Shearer.

Guus Hiddink has confirmed he will become the new coach of the Socceroos.

Hiddink has told reporters in South Korea he and Football Federation Australia (FFA) had reached an agreement for him to coach the Socceroos while keeping his current job with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutchman said he would juggle both jobs until the World Cup play-offs against the fifth-placed South American side in November.

If Australia qualified for the World Cup finals he would continue on as Australian boss and then re-evaluate his position with PSV.

"We (FFA and I) have to work out some details which I proposed to them," Hiddink said after PSV drew 1-1 with French club Lyon to bow out of the Peace Cup pre-season tournament in Suwon, South Korea.

"In case that we do so, then it's both jobs until November. And afterwards we have to see if they qualify for the World Cup."

"But in any case, I will keep my job with Eindhoven. For the moment, we agreed that my job with Eindhoven will be kept."

While Hiddink will combine both jobs until November, it is understood he has committed to being present every time the Socceroos are together, including the two matches against the Solomon Islands in September.

"If Australia qualify for the 2006 World Cup, then I will take over (by) November," he said.

The FFA refused to officially confirm Hiddink's appointment but it is believed Hiddink will be officially unveiled as Socceroos coach at a press conference in Sydney on Friday afternoon.

He will replace Frank Farina, who was sacked after Australia's elimination from the Confederations Cup last month.

Hiddink's appointment as Socceroos coach had already been considered a fait accompli, with FFA officials waiting for PSV to bow out of the Peace Cup tournament before making any official announcement.

The Dutchman is regarded as one of the world's best coaches, leading Holland and South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals and winning the 1988 European Cup with PSV.

He took PSV to the Champions League semi-finals last season and has also coached Real Madrid, Valencia and Real Betis.

Hiddink's first official duty as Socceroos coach will be a training camp next month in the Netherlands.

Australia then plays its Oceania World Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands on September 3 and 7.

If, as expected, the Socceroos beat the Solomon Islands, Australian officials hope to line up two friendly matches in Europe in October before the South American World Cup showdown matches in mid-November.

Wengerland 07-21-2005 05:49 AM

Good news for the Aussies, Hiddink is one of the best coaches around.

Bobo Balde is a cunt.

Breaking somebody's leg in a friendly is a bit extreme.

Wengerland 07-21-2005 08:11 AM

They both went for the ball, it was nicked away. 50-50 challenge. Broken legs happen.

Wengerland 07-21-2005 09:05 AM

No, Weso knicked the ball and then Balde goes intentionally for his leg. Broken legs happen but with malicious challenges like that in a friendly game is just plain stupid.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-21-2005 09:11 AM

Balde went for the ball and it was nicked away. Don't be stupid about this, like Levein. It was a strong challenge. Those types where the ball goes loose between two players are called "hospital balls" for a reason. There's no way you can stall your momentum when the ball is nicked away, life doesn't play out in slow motion. You can't pull out once you've committed yourself to the ball. Usually pulling out is what gets your leg broken.

toxic rooster 07-21-2005 09:22 AM

He never made a play for the ball once the defender came in though

Wengerland 07-21-2005 09:27 AM

You can see on the slow-mo one that he could have taken the ball, but he misses it and raises his foot, even though the ball is on the ground. The thing that really annoys me is that Balde or Celtic haven't apologised, and it was in a friendly, i'd be more understanding if it was a competitive game, but it wasn't.

Call me stupid all you like but if it happened to an Irishman in an international, friendly or not, then i can't see you reacting in the same way and being calm about it.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-21-2005 09:34 AM

Yes, I would. If it happened to me, I would be calm about it. That's the way those tackles go. Looking at it in slow motion and saying he had time to adjust is just stupid. Look at it in real time to see how quickly it happens.

Every tackle looks worse in slow motion.

Wengerland 07-21-2005 09:45 AM

You're a better man than i am if you'd be calm about it then. Someone broke my ankle, i think it was deliberate, back when i played junior football and i wanted to 'do some damage' to him.

Anyway, i take your point about the normal speed, to be fair it doesn't look like much is wrong at that speed, but an aplogy from the club would be nice, or they could give their best wishes or whatever.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-21-2005 09:47 AM

Injuries happen in football. If someone set out to hurt me, I'd probably smack them whether they succeeded or not. Just a two-footed challenge that didn't even connect would set me off. Tackle like that, 50-50 challenge, injuries can happen.

Nervous Ferret 07-21-2005 12:57 PM

Stop calling little slides "tackles" okay? okay.

Wengerland 07-21-2005 01:17 PM

No.

If you don't want to hear them referred to as tackles then stick to American football threads.

Rob 07-21-2005 03:05 PM

Who in their right mind really sets out to break their opponents legs?

Wengerland 07-21-2005 03:23 PM

When i said "intentional" i meant as in intention to hurt, the only time anyone would have wanted to break someone's leg was probably Roy Keane on Alfe Haaland. Balde, if it was intentional (admittedly i probably over reacted at first) would have done it in frustration as both Dublin and de Vries were dominating him and Varga in all aspects, Mdv even outpaced Balde when Bobo had a headstart :$

If you fly in shin or knee high, over the top of the ball, you're aiming to hurt someone. It doesn't happen that often, but Steve Gerrard used to be notorious for it. Luckily he never did break anyone's leg, but it was more by luck than design. He's grown up a bit since.

I've seen people do it, two-footed, in amateur games. It's a shitty thing to do, and like I said if anyone even tried it on me I'd probably chin them.

Rob 07-21-2005 04:20 PM

People are wankers then. I have never known anyone personally that went out to hurt someone on the other team. Well, unless it was with a punch in the mouth.

Boro and Bolton are apparently chasing Fernando Couto however he has stated there is interest but he wont go unless he gets the same/better deal than he is on at lazio!

Cant see where we would fit him in with Southgate,Riggott, Ugo, Cooper and the youngsters we have comming through, Taylor, Wheater, Bates and also Querdrue has been earmarked for a centreback role and Pogetez can play there aswell (will prob have to wait 24 weeks to find that out though)

I know Riggot is injured at moment as is Bates so Couto could only be as cover for us unless he can play in midfield in a holding role or something. I dunno I just cant see where he would fit in and his age is defo against him.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-22-2005 03:05 PM

Rather like asking why on earth you would bid for Boa Morte (speculation at this time admittedly) when you have Yakubu, Viduka, Hasselbaink, Job, Nemeth and Maccarone.

Anyway, slightly more interesting news:

Five bids have been submitted to host the European Championships in 2012.

Joint bids from Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine have been made to UEFA with Greece, Italy and Turkey also launching individual campaigns to host the championships in seven years' time.

Croatia/Hungary are the early favourites - Hungary narrowly lost to Austria/Switzerland in the contest to host the 2008 finals and UEFA members are keen to see the championships hosted in eastern Europe.

UEFA's executive committee will reduce the number of candidates to three on November 7 this year and then make a final decision in December 2006.

----

Outside of the occasional European game I've no idea what the facilities are like in Croatia/Hungary or Poland/Ukraine...out of all of them Italy is surely the best prepared at this point. I really dunno what a tournament in Turkey would be like, Greece would be interesting though. Colourful, at the very least.

Wengerland 07-22-2005 03:23 PM

Still won't win the league but they'll give it a shake I reckon. They may possibly win the Cup, they always have a good run in that competition, with Theo there they'll be strong in it.

Mike the Metal Ed, no chance buddy. ;)

It was on the sky sports website i think, when the rumour came up. Only a few days ago so i'll find the link. Seems to just be started by the site though.

http://skysports.planetfootball.com/...icle&id=293301

Midfielder Theo Zagorakis is set for a return to his homeland, having been released by Italian side Bologna.

The Greece captain, who led his side to European Championship glory last summer, is close to signing for former club PAOK Thessaloniki.

If, as expected, Zagorakis pens a two-year deal it will mean the former Leicester City player finishing his player career at the club he first left some seven and a half years ago.

Zagorakis's close association with PAOK may even prompt the player to decide to buy the club once he hangs up his boots.

!

Legend!

Cheers for the link. :y:

"It's different for us than the other clubs, they are in breach of a transfer agreement by not coming. It's pathetic, we are in the suburbs while England play Australia in central London. If they don't come, they're gonna get sued. It's cowardly. They're going to allow terrorists to dictate the way that people conduct themselves. It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact. They could fly into Croydon. THere's no bombs going off in South London, Norwich, Portsmouth, Leicester. The emergency services stuff is an excuse - if the police felt this was too much they would say so. I'm angry on 3 fronts - I spent a million pound on a player who only played 27 minutes and now they pull out, I'm angry as they have messed up our centenary celebrations, and I'm angry as a Londoner. They are going to get sued, this is a sad indictment of sport, when you've got footballers refusing to play in a city where people on minimum wage are prepared to carry on. We were told yesterday that South American players wouldn't come, now we are told it's club officials. This is not a terrorist hot target, this is not the West of London, I think perhaps they are taking this opportunity because they didn't want to come anyway. We encourage people to come anyway, as we will try and put something else on. If their bravery on the pitch reflects their bravery off it it probably wouldn't have been a very good game anyway."

Palace Chairman Simon Jordan on Sky Sports News

Apparently as part of the deal they did for Sorondo and Ventola they agreed a friendly and signed a contract.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-23-2005 11:42 AM

Good old Jordan, shooting his mouth off again. Hope he does sue them though that'd be fucking hilarious.

Dazz 07-23-2005 12:07 PM

Jordan's a cunt, he tried to have a pop at Chelsea last season, I forget what it was about but it had no bearing on his shit little club.

And to make up for the last two weeks I'd like to say a few things...

Cisse is certainly not shit

Their was no intention from Balde

RBF's gay

SHAUNY WRIGHT WRIGHT WRIGHT

El Capitano Gatisto 07-23-2005 12:31 PM

Cisse is shit.

Dazz 07-23-2005 12:54 PM

He was Liverpool's best player Vs us in October, I bet he scores some crackers next season, including one where he delightfully nutmegs Dickie Dunne and rifles it in for his hat trick.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-23-2005 12:56 PM

You'd probably think Linford Christie is brilliant, seeing as they just have to be fast and black for you to think they are great. Never mind technique, finishing ability etc.

Dazz 07-23-2005 01:01 PM

What is that based on? You made that up in your head and posted it because it sounded good.

Cisse had a great long ranger shot Vs Chelsea, and if I remember correct it was their only good shot that day, he has power and a great shot, every attacker misses chances, Cisse is no different, but he is certainly not shit.

In closing, you all heard it here second (Rajah's heard it first coz I haven't been banned for there ;)) Del Horno is going to score at least five goals next season and set up over ten, and everyone will see how great he is. He has a great free kick on his, takes lots of long shots, loves to attack down the wing and makes good crosses. He is going to be the man.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-23-2005 01:03 PM

Wow, that's great. One long ranger shot against Chelsea which was Liverpool's only good shot. I'm convinced.

Dazz 07-23-2005 01:07 PM

And then he broke his leg soon after you fucking retard. He didn't have the chance last season, wait till he has a few games under him this season and finds some form. He looked threatening against us at Anfield too. Terry and your boyfriend had a hard task marking him, he broke away and we had to rely on Big Pete to bail us out, had Carlo been in goal it'd have been 2-0.

Wait till October and you will see that he is quality.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-23-2005 01:09 PM

I've seen him playing for several Auxerre and France before he even went to Liverpool, and he never looked any good. So get out of here.

Dazz 07-23-2005 01:18 PM

Don't tell me where to go! You can see that he has potential at least, I don't care who you have seen him play for in the past, it's up to Benitez to get the best out of him and stick him in a formation that suits him.

Look at Gudjohnsen this season, rubbish up front for us because the formation didn't suit him, you need to meet the striker half way and leave him in a formation he can play in. he had easily the bext chance in both games he played against us, and I'd wager it that he is their top scorer next season.

Just because he doesn't like you lot, get over it MMM, he is too good for you.

Doink 07-23-2005 03:17 PM

its good to have Dazz back !!!!!

Fucking stupid assholes called in a bomb scare at Craig Liddle's testimonial (Darlington V Middlesbrough) Meaning the game got called off at half time and the stadium evacuated. I would say biggest waste of a tenner yet but since it was for Liddle i'll let it go. Shame the stupid pricks have to ruin other peoples day by doing this. Fair play to the Darlo staff and police for the way they handled it.

LOL at the wedding party stood outside afterwards waiting to go back in. BTW Clive Wijnard look pretty good for the first 45mins, he looked more lively then Hasselbaink and caused a hel of a lot more problems!

Boro's alleged interest in Boa Morte would either see him or Downing moving into centre mid, but dont think either would work. We are apparently after Geremi (again) for fuck sake the guy has turned us down like 100 times already, move on Mclaren its time to look elsewhere!

Just caught the 2nd half of Hong Kong V Man U and i think Alan Smith looked quite good in that holding midfield role!

Get over what? :wtf: :|

You're the one who was on here defending him saying he's a great striker :| I really don't give a fuck about the man whether he stays or goes, if he's so great why hasn't anyone bought him off us?

Dazz 07-24-2005 11:40 AM

Yes, you do need to get over it, you only moan about him because he doesn't like your poxy little club. And people haven't bought him for his bad attitude and the way he treated oyu lot, not because of his footballing ability.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-24-2005 11:45 AM

You're the only person on here who thinks he's any good :|

And if his attitude is what's stopping a move why the fuck did Blackburn buy Bellamy? Or why does Bowyer continue to be linked with a move anywhere?

Dazz 07-24-2005 11:56 AM

If he is so shit then why was he in the Tsunami match? Clearly more people then just me think he is good.

Southampton would have bought him had they stayed up I reckon. And everyone knows Souness is a cunt and how hard it is to work for him, so it wasn't like it was all Bellamy's fault, and he didn't act like a dickhead at Celtic did he. Camara acted in a much worse way.

Bowyer still moves around because other then the Dyer thing he isn't a cunt on the pitch, and everytime he does something stupid people think he will change.

I would love a Premiership club to sign Camara.

It's 150 megs but pretty shit hot, Maradona Vs Ronaldinho, just basically lots of clips of their skills, goals and just being the man. Mainly for RBF because he loves Ronaldinho.

Rob Ban Fan 07-24-2005 01:53 PM

I don't love Ronaldinho, he's like my 6th favourite Barca player :$

but thanks anyway

I was taking the Mouse. I thought he was lower down your list, you said you didn't like him or Samuel eto'o (AKA e'too).
