You guys are nitpicking things. You're doing the whole "it's not exactly like the comic book" type stuff that really is bothersome.
It was a good movie, better than the other two or at the very least on par with #2. |
Just saw this movie last night. Highlight for my thoughts:
Juggernaut was awesome. I don't care that his relationship with Charles wasn't brought up, or that he wasn't a tank or that he was classified as a mutant, he was just so awesome. "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!" made this movie for me. If there is a sequel, Vinnie Jones needs to be back. I really believe there should be a sequel. Bring back Juggernaut and Pyro as Brotherhood members. It isn't faithful to the comics, but I think they should bring in Mr Sinister as a mutant. Maybe have him able to counteract Leech's powers? Sinister gets Mystique to join their side, Multiple Man makes a return, as does Magento. Havok can make his X-Men debut, effectively replacing Cyclops and can have the honour of killing off Mr Sinister. At the end, have Angel fly off and run into Apocalypse. There's your fifth movie. I just want to see some more Juggernaut and Pyro, damn it! Oh, and the way Juggernaut got bested makes perfect sense. He had no clue about Leech's powers, and is probably used to just running through anything and everything. It makes sense he wouldn't hold anything back. I can't figure out who was Spike. Was he the one that fought Wolverine in the forest (who I originally though it was), or was he the porcupine-esque guy? I still think he was the forest guy. Who was Psylocke? I thought the chick that was in the Brotherhood was Jubilee? Mystique turning on Magneto made perfect sense to me. When she was left by Magneto she felt betrayed. She was left as a naked human, which must be the ultimate slap in the face to Mystique, being completely human and left for the world to see as she is, in her entirety. I doubt it was her joining the forces of good as it was her simply getting payback. But yes, the Juggernaut and Pyro must be back if there is another. Even if they are the sole villains, and Juggernaut stumbles across the gem of Cytorrak which enhances his powers to that of what we expect of the Juggernaut (bitch!). Great movie. |
Just saw it. Better than 1 yes but it does not match the sweetness of X2
Beast, Pyro, and Wolvie were fucking awesome. I am a little pissed about the Sentinel scene. Huge mark out moment and it wasn't even real. It should have been put at the end for god's sake. Other than that i thought the movie was fine |
Loopy, I doubt the hand spike guy was Random. Random's hand becomes a gun and he generates random counterpowers to superpowers. Also he's huge and snow white.
Still not feeling Juggernaut's defeat. He's actualy pretty crafty. Also Proteus is Moira McTaggart's kid, but not Xavier's. You must be thinking of Legion. Then again, Legion isn't Moira's kid either. Also, I'm pretty sure we can stop with the black font now. |
Nope
|
Question: Is this movie really worth seeing in theatres?
I saw the first two, can't really remember them though, and I don't think I liked them very well. I only wanna see it to see the Juggernaut say who he is  |
the special effects alone are worth seeing it theatres

I think Spike can be found in the X-Static series, where he dies after a couple of issues. |
Oh and if they bring in Moira's kid in X4, then it would just be a rehash of X2. A mutant who can adapt your surroudings to make you think whatever he wants you to think.
People who know me, know that I'm a massive X-Men fan. I even have Angel tattooed on my arm I thought the film was ok but then I think I had been building this film up for ages. It was no way as good as two but then i thought it was better than the first. Spoilers What disapointed me the most was the storyline build up was kinda weak, there was no real character development with the new guys. Pretty poor. Also I honestly thought that Cyclops would come back at the end or something, but that never hapened. I actually hate Cyclops, no way near as good as his brother Havok. They really, really underused Betsy. That was so disapointing. Same goes with Angel, I was hoping for this superhero but all we got was some guy pulling faces and coming to save his dad. My mate made me laugh, he said everyone could be brought back if they bring Bishop in, in the sequel. Use time travel and bring all the dead characters back. As easy as that :) I'd love if if they focus more on Angel in the next film, bring in an injury to his wings. Show him gradually getting depressed and then bang along comes Apocalypse with his Horsemen, which includes Gambit (love). Is it me or was Callisto one of the four horsemen? Wasn't too impressed with Mystique's demise but in a storyline was it shows Magneto's hatred for humans. Even though she saved him, he still can't help her because of he despises 'homo-sapiens'. The whole Cain and Charles thing is just like instances from the last two films. Sabretooth and Wolverine should have been the worst of enemies but instead they barely knew each other. Mystique not finding out that Nightcrawler is her son, stuff like that. But I suppose this just adds on more to storylines. |
It was disappointing in the sense that it could have been an awesome movie but it was only just a good one.
I agree with Danny Electric the first half an hour was horrible. Not enough character development and just general dialougue. And everything seemed to go to fast. Magneto, Pyro, Wolvie and the Beast are the only characters who I believe had enough impact and time. Storm bored me and Angel, Iceman, Rogue and Collosus where all drastically underused. Cyclops and Xavier deserved more time as well. Juggernaught was fucking horrible. That’s all I have to say. I think there could be an x-4 only if Magneto regained his powers as hinted towards the end, Xaiver returns, Storm is still the headmistresses and maybe concentrating on the government unleasing the sentinels. The x-team could be Wolvie, Storm, a returning Beast and Nightcrawler and juiced up roles for Iceman, Kitty Pride and maybe Gambit (of course played by Sawyer) It should have been longer |
I should play Gambit.

Heres a treat for all my fellow posters. The last episode of the greatest x-men tv show ever. This series was my introduction to the x-men universe when I was 8 or 9 so it holds great memories for even though it has kinda of aged badily |
OK, I may be blind but where the fuck was Omega Red?
|
It was a cameo. During one of the crowd shots of Magneto's "gathering" (the gathering is in the trailers, so I'm not going to black it out), there's a close-up of one guy who has an "omega" tattooed on his neck.
That's it. |
Saw it today. Thought it was a great film. Thoughts in spoiler black below:
- I thought Cyclopse's death came waaaay too soon. I don't care whether it was punishment, they should have built up his loss more than a couple of seconds of emoness - The whole scene at Jean's house was amazing Xavier's death was a pretty nasty way to go. While the effects were awesome, I didn't really like that part, it just didn't seem right - Juggernauts helmet was amazingly stupid. "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" was simply amazing  - Human Mystique was hot, although it was a pretty lame way to go - I had mixed feelings about Jean's death. While it was pretty emotional, it just didn't feel right for some reason. Wolverine should have been ripped to shreds during his walk up to her, which probably tainted it slightly due to it's ridiculasness. Still pretty sad though :'( - I knew from the begining that Grammer as Beast was perfect. Was really funny when he tried on the X-Men uniform, should have had more screen time though - Magneto losing his abilities should have come after a huge fight/battle and not some crappy ambush. The end was pretty awesome though as it leaves a big question mark over whether the effects are lasting |
My biggest complaint about the movie as a whole, and this has nothing to do with spoilers:
It was just too damned short. It was only 105 or so minutes long, and they could easily have gone another half hour without it feeling too long. I know Ratner likes his movies fast and punchy, but an extra half-hour would have erased a lot of the complaints about lack of character development. I have a feeling, though, that there will probably be some good deleted scenes on the DVD when it comes out. An extended cut would be a good idea, imo. |
Why develop the characters that aren't the main dudes. All the main players had their development in the first movie. The other characters in these movies are just there to compliment or fight the XMen. The only type of development a guy like Arc Angel should get is slow and gradual (if he's in more than 1 movie) The way they decided to use him (forget about the comics or cartoons) was perfect.
|
Quote:
BTW the idea behind developing new characters is so that if you ever wanted to do you could take the plethora of other X-men and do movie after movie with different casts and still be able to sell it. |
Xmen is about Wolverine, yes. Then everybody else.
Perhaps you missed Rogue's and Magneto's development in the first movie, too bad. Iceman and Pyro were built (#2), Jean, they build her through the 3 movies. But hey, I must be wrong. Cause Kitty, Colossus, Juggernaut, Arc Angel et la were all completely miscast and/or misused. |
Saw it today, was good, but after all the hype on here I thought it was a little lackluster. But that could be blamed on me knowing what happened in it before hand. Xavior's death was good, probably my favourite scene in the movie.
Only real problem I had with the movie though is the fact that it really didn't seem like a final end. IMO they need one more to finish it (Two would be awesome) . |
Quote:
It's basic moviemaking. If you're going to have life-or-death stakes, make us care about who lives or dies. And outside of maybe five-to-ten characters (in a cast of 20+), I just didn't care. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about delving deep into their backstories to tell us about the exact moment they discovered their mutation. But at least let them show one human characteristic. A few of the new characters got to exhibit some personality (Callisto, Juggernaut, Kitty, even the Multiple Man cameo), but the vast majority of the new characters were just cannon fodder. How hard is it to write a five-second scene where Psylocke sees Angel on TV and gets a crush on him? Or have Colossus writing a letter to his family in Russia? With an extra 15-30 minutes, you can add in little tidbits of information that, combined, takes maybe five minutes, then you have time for more action scenes with more characters that we have an emotional investment in. --- And this holds true for any movie, imo. Any movie with a large ensemble cast, if I'm only given reason to care about some of the characters, it hurts the overall picture. |

They were just kids. That was the idea behind this movie in the first place. The X-Men weren't all established going into X1, and they did okay. This is something that actually happened in the comics, too, where the reigns were handed over to new characters, several of which were relatively fresh faces. I think having Drake, Pride, and even the Young Rasputin step up was awesome. Even though Collosus really could have used more development, I think they did fine with Drake and Pryde. I would have liked a little more depth with Beast, but at least it was understood that he was a student, prior. I don't think the idea was to develop a plethora of new characters, as they clearly didn't do that. I think the idea was to push newer characters to replace the more expensive, established ones (Except Wolverine, and unfortunately Storm, as they need a different actress) and replace them with characters that not only fit canon but allowed for a lower budget (castwise). They didn't even try for versatility of a large number of characters, and didn't continue to establish new characters. These are the folks we're getting, and they did develop them. |
Quote:
And yet, there is still enough room that they don't have to make a new series if they opt to do another. They did exactly what a comic book franchise should do, IMO...Except for killing off certain people. |
Why wasnt Collosus Russian?
|
Maybe he was Russian with a really good English accent.
|
Born in Russia, raised in the States?
|
Yeah, gotta think outside the box, Skip.
|
Maybe Russians aren't heavily accented?
I mean after all, Storm's supposed to be from an African tribe. Wolverine's supposed to be Canadian. Xavier's supposed to be Atlantean. Magneto's supposed to be...Wait...Magneto was supposed to be a british guy. |
I thought is was great. I'd put it on par with 2.

Oh, and there's no way I believe Cyc is dead. Didn't see a body, didn't even really see a death scene.

Interesting...is this why everyone was mentioning Josh Holloway for Gambit?
From IMDB: # Josh Holloway was offered the role of Gambit, but turned it down because the character was too similar to his character on "Lost" (2004). As a result, the character was never added to the film since this would have been a special cameo put in later had Josh decided to sign on. |
Awsome movie but im curious about the story they used to not include nightcrawler? Did anyone complete the game and find out?

I haven't finished it, but fairly early, he talks about being uncomfortable with having to be violent, since he's so deeply religious.

Saw it last night. I usually don't like to rant about movies cause I usually enjoy what I see in theaters, but this one just frustrated me a litte. I liked the battle scenes and the Phoenix character, but for a final movie, it just seemed slow and not as good as the first 2.
Killing of Cyclops was a wtf moment right of the bat. It wasn't even a good death scene. He's been one of the main guys since the first two movies and he's killed just like that. I seriously thought he was going to be behind the door when the X-men were going to the blackbird getting ready for the final battle. I didn't know a couple of the main heel characters because they never said their names. I guess if you've read the comics and watched the cartoon, you would get it, but if you're just a casual fan, you wouldn't of known who they were. (Mostly Callisto's gang). Unless I missed the part where they said thier names. Angel did absolutely nothing but annoy me. I thought I saw Leech or Toad crawling around in the Morlock hideout. Who was that? The way Juggernaut was killed off or whatever was pretty ridiculous. I wanted to see Collusus take him out. Ice man vs Pyro was probably my favorite part because they built that up since movie two and you were just waiting for it. It was like HHH/Rock Summerslam 98. Was Multiple Man ever with Magneto in the comics? Actually, was thier anybody in this movie that was in the Brotherhood in the comics? I know Pyro was. But yea. Ok film. Seemed like it was rushed to end the series, but had it's awesome moments. This is the movie that probably pissed off a lot of comic readers more then the other 2. Well I hope they think about making a 4th. We need Apocalypse. |

You really can't expect a lot of action scenes with colossus and angel, considering the costs it takes to provide such scenes. That said, I'm dissapointed that colossus and juggernaut didn't mix it up. I thought that was a no-brainer.
I agree that the movie was too short. They tried to fit so much in that time frame and it ended up a bit messy. Definitly didn't have the flow of the first two. I expect we won't see x4 until the two spin-offs have come out. When x4 eventually does arrive I'm hoping for Apocalypse. Finally, it should be noted that we never actually see cyclops die. |
What I want to know is why they didn't bring back Sbretooth and toad for this. It would have been the perfect time to do so. And it's not like Ray Park and Tyler Mane are a-list stars. Hell they're not even c-list. Park is primarily a stuntman, ffs.

Actually, Alan had it on his website for awhile that he was ready and eager to get to work on the next movie. He signed a contract to appear in two films, they simply decided to axe Nightcrawler from the script this go around. Of course, I think it was because they were trying this whole "Matrix mass mediam" thing. Ya know, when they had the movie, the Animatrix, and the game all come out around the same time, and they all fed into each other? Kind of like how the X3 game is supposed to explain why Nightcrawler isn't in the movie. |

Me and my friends have a debate going
1) Is Juggernaut dead? Because you don't see him die, or see him after He knocks himself out 2) Where is Sabretooth? He feel off the statue onto the boat, and I seriously doubt that killed him. |
Sadly they cannot have an Apocalypse story in the movie thats true to the comics, since Jean and Scott are dead, so Cable can't be born. Eh?
Also really besides Wolverine and Storm who is left for the main role, since Jean and Scott are dead and so is the Professor? and what aboot the coolest non-mutant (Juggernaut) ,why was he a mutant. that part of the movie I found so annoying because Juggernaut is my fav mutant, and he didn't look, act, or seem at all like Juggernaut. And why did he have an Austrailian Accent? |
1) I don't think Juggernaut's dead.
2) I think they realized that they made a mistake casting someone simply for looks rather than acting ability, so they're just going to leave him "dead" until they can re-cast him for the Wolverine spinoff. 3) They can do Apocalypse. Who cares if it's not the same as the comics? These are movies. 4) No clue. I guess Kelsey Grammar's probably the biggest star left. 5) Because - in the context of the "world" the movies have created - it makes a whole lot more sense for him to be a mutant. Seriously, watching an X-Men movie, the audience has already suspended disbelief long enough to believe that there are mutants. Do you really need to introduce magical gems as well? 6) He didn't have an Australian accent. It was British. |
Quote:
2. I hope so, but he still should have been in the Last Stand. 3. Isn't it ironic to see someone complain about how they can't do it proper after the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga was just done? Interestingly enough, the Phoenix storyline involved an alien consciousness, alien allies and enemies, and suicide at the hands of an alien trap. Besides, by the time Cable was born, Jean and Scott had each at least died like, twice. Not to mention Cable probably wouldn't fit that well in the movies. 4. They'll probably do a fourth with Storm leading. She had in the comics. 5. Actually, it was for simplicity's sake. It's not really harder to suspend disbelief to believe the Juggernat got his powers from the gem than it is that he's an unstoppable mutant. It's just more convenient to not introduce those elements, especially if you're going to defeat him with a kid who shuts offmutant powers. 6. Especially since the guy who played him was British. |
My friends said he was british I was sort of in the middle and finally wenr with it sound more austrailian or maybe it was just the "do you know who I am? Im the Juggernaut,B*TCH" thing that sound austrailian to me.
I am happy to hear that most people here agree with me that Sabretooth and Juggernaut are NOT dead. And they probabily won't have alot of new mutants as the cost of generating effects with computers is costly and they do alot of it in the x-men movies. *Holds onto hope of seeing a cable / apocalypse fight* |

I just got back from this film. It was pretty good. I'd put it in the middle with The first movie on the bottom and X-2 on top. I also had the theatre to myself so I was able to act normally. Anyway here's my review:
1. So if they axed Nightcrawler from the film, who was the guy with his teleporting powers at the begining of the Alcatraz battle? 2. Angel. Come on. He gets 20 words, maybe more total? Looking at the primary cast back on page one or two, and trailers, I thought he would be the source of the cure. Didn't know Ratner had Leech hiding in the corner. 3. Yeah, Cyclops got killed off way to early. Was looking around for a body but to luck. Sure call it punishment to play for the enemy (DC comics), but bring him back full time if they go and make #4 4. The Juggernaut. Yeah like everyone else here, I also went crazy when he introduced himself to Kitty Pryde. But he can't be killed off with a bonk on the head. Gotta see brother Charles one last time. 5. I left during the credits. Big mistake. Anybody got a link to the last few minutes after them? I will supply rep. 6. You mean to tell me that ArcLight gets a much bigger role than Besty Braddock? 7. Kelsey Grammer was awesome as Beast. Couldn't have found a better person for the job. 8. Too short. All in all I give this film a level B. Obviously there are alot of things we can point out and discuss. Will a 4th come out, character flaws, etc. But I think it was great movie. Good job Brett Ratner. |
Quote:
Of course, we'd rather spend 8 trillion on Halle Berry. |
Well I suppose you are right, but special effects are still costly and the movies don't have any small amount as showing kitty phasing, and the such.
There was alot of no-name mutants that were little more then standins, so I see what you mean there, but the cost of Berry,Jackman, Mckellan(?spelling?)... .. ..and Captain Jean-Luc Picard sort of cancel that out. |
No, you don't much get it.
|
Angels scenes actually wern't cg. Just his wings. Saw a behind the scenes of the very costly scene where he jumps out the window.
|
Oh and for the people complaining about how the Juggernaut was defeated by a knock on the head. It did make sense because he lost his powers (because of Leech).
|
Well, first of all he was wearing a helmet probabily 4 inchs thick, and he still got knocked out?
Secondly Juggernaut is not a mutant, so leech should never have affected him :( and im not complaining, I was curious before as to what others thought on wither he died or not. |
At the speed he was going, it didn't matter whether he wore a helmet or not. More than likely, the helmet saved his life (without the helmet, he probably would have broken his neck), but it would still knock him out.
|

And because they wanted to see him vs Collosus or Wolvie or both. Not that I care either way. |
X3 is full good moments overall. It's a film about a bunch of cool moments and mutants doing their thing. I'll be honest, this is more like X-Men than the first two films. You have all the wacky battles and over-the-top drama and even the un-needed character deaths. I enjoyed it. Still, I have some issues with certain themes, characters, and scenes.
Young Charles/Eric: Very interesting FX work. Patrick Stewert specifically looks 20yrs younger rather convincingly. Ian still shows some age, though. Danger Room: Wolverine and Storm training teenage mut-... X-Men: Evolution? Anyway, it was nice to have a sentinel; not so nice for it to be off screen the whole time. Logan getting tossed was badass. In this sequence lies my first and most frequent complaint: character plots. Shadowkat is introduced as an X-Man without so much as a flashback detailing her entry. She's just there. Cyclops: The only time Scott is a pretty interesting character is when he gets killed off in the first 30 seconds. I like this depressed, stuble-growing, loner Cyclops. I understand why he couldn't be in the rest of the movie, but can't help but wonder how it would be for him to participate. The Scott/Logan/Jean triangle was basically vaporized with 'Cyke as well. Brett Retner(SP): It's at this time I notice the director's openning flaws. He introduces (and reintroduces) characters with poor flair. They just appear on screen without so much as a music cue, interesting camera angle or defining speach. Magneto's first scene in the film is what I'm talking about here. Fortunately, you can actually see Brett adjusting to the film mid-movie as the middle and ending scenes seem vastly superior to the first 20 minutes (not by much). Enter Phoenix: It's nice how they totally spit on Singer's flaming Phoenix when he was obviously gonna present it for his X3. Still, I do like the one they went for here. Kinda scary when she gets into her final form. Her presence is explained rather poorly. Split personality? Much too forceful. I would've had it so her growing powers simply manifested into this Phoenix entity with a Goddess complex. But that's me. Angel: Honestly I expected him to be used for a foreshadowing to a future Apocolyps storyline. Guess I asked for too much. Magneto Breaks Out Mutants: Cool how he destroyed that convoy. Very. It's pretty insulting to Magneto as a character, however, that he disowns Mystique over a technicality. Did she not grow up as a mutant? Did she not feel the prejudice? Bad writing. Alot of cool scenes end with bad writing. Logan Keeps Scott's Shades: I'm most disappointed in this overlooked and interesting detail. When Logan questions Jean about Scott he pulls out his shades. Wouldn't the writers or the director find that interesting enough to elaborate on? Did Logan have some respect for Scott? We'll never know. Missed oppertunity. Showdown at Jean's: Can we safely guess Pheonix killed Jean's parents? I like to think so. The movie gets better from here; after some pretty good scenes. Xavier getting vaporized (or whatever the bitch does to you) really got me at the time. But again a key relationship of the movie-series is vaporized as well. Why have either Magneto or Xavier when the other's dead? The empty wheelchair shot sent it home, though. Calisto: Please tell me she wasn't made black to have some type of synergy with Storm. Please. She comes off as some hood-rat from around the way. Wolverine Jungle Battle: Something about Logan in the jungle felt right. Then Magneto reminded him why he's not a match for the Master of Magnetism. Gotta admit; everytime Magneto and Wolverine were in the same scene I expected an adaptation of the... Bone Surgery. Xavier got "killed", I was ready for anything. Rogue: Sell-out. I would've loved for Bobby to disown her ass and get with Kitty for pulling that shi... Did I just contradict myself? No, I didn't. Anyway, there was absolutely no resolution to Rogue/Kitty/Bobby that satisfied me. Psylocke: Just some Morlock thug with powers that has nothing to do with her comic version? Insult to all of her fans. Building Bridges: As many times as it was shown and talked about, seeing it in it's entirety was badass. Magneto rules. The Last Stand: This is really what people paid to see. On some levels it delivers, but it could've been better. Seeing Beast throw down was unexpected cool. Did Storm maliciously kill Calisto? Abit forced to me. Of all people to go after Juggy when he went after Leech; Kitty?!? Collossus vs. Juggernaut any day of the week. Still, Juggy's line in the floor: Gold. Iceman could've pulled an Ice Slide just once... Speaking of that... Iceman vs. Pyro: Interesting and boring at the same time. How?!? I expected more than some DBZ beam battle. I wanna see Ice Slides and Fire Tricks! Iceman going all ice was pretty cool and for some reason surprising. But like many other scenes it was capped off by bad dialogue. "You should've left the school." "You should've stayed." I would've had it like: "You're not so cool after all." *Headbutt* "You're not so hot yourself." But that's just me. Phoenix Unleashed: Very visual and scary. I liked it. She just started wasting people at random; by random I mean unimportant characters. Wolverine's 'walk against the wind' was a good moment. Overall I liked the movie. It wasn't kick-my-ass good but it was interesting. Xavier cheating death totally ruined the angle. But I suppose it coincides with Magneto actually gaining his powers back (my favorite scene in the movie). They're at a point in the franchise to reinvent the wheel here. Go on with the X-Men: Evolution set-up and run with it. But that's me. |
