AZ, they were talking how ECW was giving chances to Beniot, Guerrero, Misterio they kinda guys while WWE was having 6'5 muscleheads like Luger and Warrior pushed. was great.

NeanderCarl 06-07-2006 10:36 PM

Old school Foley

Kane Knight 06-07-2006 10:36 PM

FOLEY!

Corndad 06-07-2006 10:37 PM

Foley Promo!! This is turning out to be a decent show.

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:37 PM

this is a Mick Foley promo written by Paul Heyman.

PullMyFinger 06-07-2006 10:38 PM

lol I think ECW looks horrible in this show. Either WWE dominates, or when the ECW guy wins..its a recent WWE wrestler...not a traditional old school ECW guy.

James Steele 06-07-2006 10:38 PM

Oh my god...

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:39 PM

the crowd is silent. WOW.

James Steele 06-07-2006 10:39 PM

This is PROMO 101. I hope Randy Orton is taking notes.

That's why wrestlers jump ship, stall in contract negotiations and try their best to get over. Merchandise = money. Championships = money. PPVs = money.

Especially in what should be the more physically demanding company... I wouldn't jump at the chance to do harder work for less money in my job. Would you?

Firstly, money isn't the ONLY thing. People who say that are fucking idiots. Yes I will accept that many will just look at the money instead of their careers, but still it isn't the only thing.

And on top of that, they will not be doing it for free. They maybe going to ECW but Vince still gives them the pay checks, Vince is still their boss, you know this right?

Finally, more physically demanding? Yes sure it will be more hardcore style, but WWE tour intensively which makes it just as demanding as ECW, look at how many wrestlers have been injured recently in WWE. So it's not like thats an issue, if it was then Angle wouldn't of 'jumped ship'.

I'm not sure if they will be payed less in ECW though, has this been confirmed? I can't see why they would have to, since Vince is still their boss.

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:40 PM

LMAO foley in the Air Force ones.

ThruTheWire 06-07-2006 10:42 PM

aha this is great.

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:42 PM

Tazplex his bitch ass.

Batsu 06-07-2006 10:42 PM

LMAO.... Lawler and Tazz are being classic.

But which old school ECW guy would you have win? Further, how do you define old school ECW? It's been gone for so long that it's prime wrestlers are either retired, or have worked for another company for a while.

I like the "new ECW" approach, myself. Plus, whether or not "Team ECW" looks strong, you can't deny that it's producing interest in the show.

NeanderCarl 06-07-2006 10:44 PM

Good angle... but the crowd hated it.

diothoir 06-07-2006 10:44 PM

Foley's promo was awesome, so eerie with the silent crowd.

Azriel 06-07-2006 10:44 PM

Joey knocked JR's hat off. This is awesome

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:45 PM

did heyman write this whole show?

Watson 06-07-2006 10:46 PM

Damn that kicked some major ass. Especially with Lawler calling Tazz an "asshole" while still wearing the headset then right before they started fighting Tazz saying "Come On Motherfucker!". Not to mention those first punches looked pretty fuckin' stiff.

Azriel 06-07-2006 10:46 PM

Foley's promo was godly, and that was awesome that the crowd was silent for it. Shows how respected Foley is. When he speaks, people listen

To be honest, I don't blame the crowd for being dead. Foley's promos are gold to some...but I just don't get it. His promos, Heyman's etc...I'm just bored to death. Call me a sourpuss, but I'm not feeling this ECW at all. The real ECW is long gone...and when I try to give it a chance..it resembles something like the InVasion IMO.

I'll still give it a chance on its debut night.

That announcer brawl rocked. It was unsettling, going to commercials with zero commentary - they completely defied what has become a standard convention of wrestling on TV.

This whole show's been awesome - this is what good booking/writing can do with talent like WWE's.

Corndad 06-07-2006 10:47 PM

Heyman had to, this show is too good to be written by the current Booking team, and the more I think about it, Its looking the brands may have to be combined again.

rob11 06-07-2006 10:47 PM

Fans shocked to hear a good promo and not the stupid crap they hear every week.

Idk I'm not feeling it. I agree with the Dudley comments...it's done, history, etc.

Well if they would've had someone like oh idk....Sandman winning it or Justin Credible...would've been better. I'm talking about recent WWE people that really have no history with the company and just joined.

I hope it succeeds for the people who are enjoying it...but I don't at the moment.

Azriel 06-07-2006 10:49 PM

Yeah, it was right before they cut out to a replay so people might have missed that

Watson 06-07-2006 10:50 PM

This is BY FAR the best fuckin' show I've seen in ages.

Azriel 06-07-2006 10:51 PM

So, got to be inevitable that Taz will go to ECW you think?

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:51 PM

YES. Old school SABU music!

diothoir 06-07-2006 10:52 PM

I laughed at Lawler's "dance recital" line too.

You'll be into it a lot more at ONS, if the show is shit the crowd would make it entertaining enough. The WWE crowd sucks though.

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:53 PM

... THIS IS FUCKING HORRIBLE. WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO SABU?

ECW on SCI-FI PLUS WWE's annoucing a 1 hour classic match program. I hope it all works out great.

Azriel 06-07-2006 10:58 PM

wait a minute, its ECW rules. I guess the WWE bookers wrote this

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 10:59 PM

i didn't know there were DQ's in ECW style matches...

Londoner 06-07-2006 11:00 PM

Oh fuck they cut it out before the end, what a surprise. What a shit night overall, really dissapointing considering 1) SS3 fucked up 2) The crowd were dead and 3) they cut off the ending.

Azriel 06-07-2006 11:01 PM

They need to make some sense here, they didn't DQ Edge/Dreamer, but they DQ Cena/Sabu?!

"classic match program"? I haven't heard this. Please, go on.

Corndad 06-07-2006 11:01 PM

Well, other then the obvious brawl at the end, damn fine show.. Announcers during Edge/Dreamer, Show turning, and Foley Promo made this a great show for me.

Azriel 06-07-2006 11:02 PM

Seriously, I wonder if any of the writers have any English degrees?

Volchok 06-07-2006 11:02 PM

pretty good show.

St. Jimmy 06-07-2006 11:02 PM

all bitching aside, still the best piece of WWE programming i've seen this year so far.

Londoner 06-07-2006 11:03 PM

The DQ ending had me confused to, just adds to the shit night really. That can be the 4th thing on my list.

PullMyFinger 06-07-2006 11:03 PM

I agree. This show sucked, plain and simple. It reminded me of the InVasion in many ways.

The only part that looked to save the whole show was the main event. Sabu - the man is a freaking legend and all around badass. Cena is also bad ass because of the heel heat he gets now hahaha its so funny. When things were looking great, it ended in interference.

What a disappointment. I'm not ordering ONS because I never order any PPVs. I'll just wait for the debut show on Sci Fi to prove me wrong and show that this ECW will be good.

I think the problem is...it doesn't feel like a promotion...this is all owned by Vince. The days of the old ECW are gone.

Azriel 06-07-2006 11:04 PM

Besides the shit ending, I thought it was a great show.

NeanderCarl 06-07-2006 11:04 PM

Not bad (what I saw of it... thanks, SS3!) but the crowd was dead throughout. Not a good sign, considering ECW will be taped in front of WWE crowds.

Get out the old sound sweetening machine, Vince!

diothoir 06-07-2006 11:07 PM

I thought it was pretty good tbh, had some really good stuff, had a few problems but the show did it's job. What was up with Lawler tonight? He came off as such a bitch tonight. Although I'd say they've got more fans to support ECW because of tonight.

The announcers going back and forth for 2 hours was gay, sounded like such little bitches fighting back and forth. They were just saying the stupidest shit, I can't believe people on here thought that part of the show was "cool."

So much for watching wrestling again

Innovator 06-07-2006 11:29 PM

Lawler was owned tonight by Styles and Tazz, bottom line. He came off like a 10 year old with a grudge for no reason other than hating.

No, but you are basically saying this new ECW is going to suck based off of one show that wasn't a true show for this new ECW.

James Steele 06-07-2006 11:54 PM

Also, I am a nazi.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 06-08-2006 12:05 AM

Well isn't this going to the be exact settings for the new ECW? In WWF arenas, in WWF rings. I can just see it being the same exact shit but now instead of one guy taking all the extreme bumps, both guys will be doing it. Like a lot of others, I think the small arenas really added to the whole atmosphere of the show. Being able to dive into the crowd from the ring and shit like that, I just can't see stuff like that happening with its current set up. If they were move it back into the ECW rings, and ECW style arenas then I think my feelings would probably be different.

They are doing house shows in the smaller arenas, but I can understand your point as far as the televised product. But I don't think we can expect Vince to do any shows in 2000 people arenas.

Innovator 06-08-2006 12:09 AM

laaaaaaaaaaaame

loopydate 06-08-2006 12:40 AM

Stima, didn't you notice that they did do a crowd dive tonight? It looked to me like they brought one side of the barricade in closer to the ring just for that kind of spot. Works for me. Long as I get RVD's jacknife plancha, I'm happy.

All in all, I really enjoyed the show tonight. I missed the entire Angle/Orton promo because I was on the phone, but the show as a whole was solid. Obviously it didn't feel 100% ECW, but that's because it was 50% WWE, seeing as how it was WWE vs. ECW and all.

ONS is probably going to be closer to 75/25 (smaller arena, more returning ECW guys, but also two WWE title matches). I don't think we're going to get a real gauge on the "feel" of the new ECW until the Sci Fi show starts.

But, obviously, they can't give us a 100% ECW show yet, since they only have about a 15-man roster. That's going to expand, sure, but if they tried to book tonight as a full ECW show, it would have been pretty weak.

Showing the ECW guys as threats (WWE "won" the battle royal because Edge cheated for the whole thing, then wound up losing anyway) against the guys that are already established in the fans' eyes will make it easier to watch the guys like Tony Mamaluke and Danny Doring. If Sandman looks like a threat against Mark Henry and Randy Orton, he'll be a lot more appealing to the WWE fans at the post-SmackDown shows.

All that being said, this show had Heyman's fingerprints all over it. It was as though Paul Heyman was booking a WWE show (which is something some of us have been clamoring for for years), and he was allowed to do it under ECW rules.

Gives me hope for when he gets to book ECW under ECW rules.

Crimson 06-08-2006 12:50 AM

Im curious to see how they make the new ECW. I think as long as Vince gives Heyman all the power, it has promise..even if it has the Invasion feel to it right now..it's only for this week , after this they'll be on their own anyways and they had to promote it somehow.

As for the show it had it's highs and lows, the battle royal was shit with the commercials. I'll give it a 3/5

PullMyFinger 06-08-2006 01:33 AM

Okay well it seems like only 3 ppl including me who are on the, "THIS SHOW SUCKED!" boat.

lol Damn.

Gone Mad 06-08-2006 02:51 AM

I just saw the tape of the special and I must say, WWE is doing pretty good with ECW. Of course it will NOT be the old ECW, but the least they can do is give us some good entertainment and that's what I felt tonight.

The Show's turn to ECW was surprising since he didn't do SHIT recently, RVD/Rey Rey was great, Foley Promo = Classic, Styles shooting off the entire time, Funk almost punching Justin, and Edge nearly killing himself... these were some great moments. But what's up with Orton on Raw and on the ONS PPV? Less WWE and more ECW at the PPV, ok, please? The PPV I am now actually looking forward to, but the Tuesday night show, even more so.

One last thing...

No matter the shit talk or praise, you WILL end up watching the PPV, the Sci Fi channel show, and Raw. So it's funny reading all this because yeah, it WILL happen and I should know because that's me and WWE right there. You just have to find something to hate about it, even if you can't help but watch it.

Blitz 06-08-2006 04:58 AM

K, just got back from Ohio. Had tremendous seats, opposite the titantron, 10 rows up.

Some thoughts:
-The show was not good. Sure, the wrestling was decent, but the only actual ECW guy put over was RVD, and that was by a world champion whose already been squashed by everyone else in the company.

-Big Show going to ECW was suprising, but lame.Send him over to Smackdown for some star power (especially after sending Orton to Raw :wtf: ), and use the battle royal to put over someone ACTUALLY FROM ECW.

-Dunno how it came across on TV, but Ohio is definitely not Cena country.

-I loved Cena's promo when he referred to having the belt Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin wore. Yep, definitely remeber Bruno with the Spinner belt. Good times.

-The Nutter arena has the absolute worst security force I've ever seen.

-Foley's promo was pretty hot.

note about the preshow: Poor, poor Jimmy Yang. They could send him to ECW and feud him with Super Crazy or Tony Mamaluke or someone, but no. He had a dark match tonight, and debuted his new gimmick. I believe someone on the creative team has been watching a lot of Shanghai Noon, because Jimmy Yang came out in a leather cowboy outfit, complete with confederate flag on his back. He beat Tatanka (Cowboy Vs Indian, you see) with a rollup and his feet on the ropes. There were alternating chants of "Brokeback Mountain" and "YMCA". :nono:

Ben Rodrigues 06-08-2006 08:55 AM

I don't get why people are saying the show was terrible. It was what it was - a show to build toward ECW One Night Stand. And for a build show, I'd say it was very well done. The finish that everyone's complaining about had to have been expected. If the WWE went over, we'd have at least 3 pages of people complaining that Vince is screwing ECW. Allow yourselves to be entertained and don't be so eager to tout the show as horrible.
